Plasma Ball is an interesting take on dodgeball, to say the least. There is a
story (Quest) mode you can play, where you essentially do battle (by playing
dodgeball) with robotic characters to advance. The game is spiced up with
special abilities and even different scenarios you can play solo or with a
second player. It may take a little while to get used to the controls and the
game's pace (which you can control), but it is definitely worth checking out!

Game Modes
----------

When you start the game, you will be able to pick from one of three modes.
You can also choose the speed of the ball by pressing Up/Down (the settings
are Slow, Normal, and Fast). Those game modes are:

1 Player: In this mode, you can pick from one of three Zones to play in
(detailed below) as a single human player. You then pick your own
character, name it, adjust its statistics if you want, then do the
same for your opponent. You then play the game in the selected
         Zone.

2 Players: Same as 1 Player mode, but with two human players.

Quest: This is basically the story mode, if you want to call it that. You
select the character you want to use, then you end up on a map screen.
From here you pick what stage you want to go to next (the Wind Land is
blocked initially). You can also receive a password by going to the
northern tower (God Land), in case you want to continue the adventure
      later.

Zones
-----

Zone 1 (Death Battle): In this mode, you are in an open arena with your
opponent, and must battle to the death! Attack by
throwing the ball at your opponent, who will take
damage if they don't block or catch it with their
shield. When either player's health bar is depleted,
the game is over. There are spikes on the walls and in
the center area which will cause you to drop the ball
if you touch them, so be careful! If the skull appears
in the center door, throw the ball at it and the ball
will turn green. Either player can take damage from it
at this time, but you can still try to catch it.

Zone 2 (Block Breaker): In here, each side has five buildings: three smaller
ones and two larger ones in the side wall. Player 1's
buildings to attack are on the right, and Player 2's
are on the left. It will only take a few hits from a
thrown ball to destroy a regular building. When all
three buildings on a side are cleared, the larger
buildings in the wall will be the next target. They
can take a lot more damage though. Once all five
buildings on a side are cleared, the game ends.

Zone 3 (Goal Shooter): There are four goal slots, two on each side, and the
objective is to score more goals than your opponent.
The goals on the right side are for Player 1, and the
left side are for Player 2. A tally keeps track of
each player's score. Each goal you make will net 1-3
points depending on how charged up the ball was when
you made it in. When the timer counts down to zero,
the round is over. The first player to score more
                      points in two rounds wins.

Playing the Game
================

Gameplay
--------

The main objective of this game is very similar to dodgeball, in that there
is a ball and you need to deplete the health of your opponent. You can throw
the ball and have it bounce off the walls to catch your opponent off guard,
or you can use a special skill to mess them up. The ball can also be caught,
at a cost of no damage to you, which is always helpful.

As you hold the ball, its plasma power charges up. The higher your
character's Plasma statistic, the faster it charges. It will charge up to
Level 3, but if you hold onto it for much longer, you will get shocked and
drop the ball. Of course, if you hit an enemy with a charged ball, they will
take more damage and the ball will move faster.

When the ball is bouncing around normally, it is a purple color. You will not
take damage if it hits you, so you can safely grab/touch it. When you or your
opponent throw it, you will see it changes color accordingly. The ball will
go back to its usual color after a few moments of bouncing around, which can
take longer depending on how charged up it was.

Items
-----

In the center area of the room, various items will appear over time. Items
include:

Barrier: Gives you a barrier for a short period.

   Heart: Recover some health.

Special: Gives you one additional use of your Special ability.

Thunderbolt: Slows your movement for a short period.

Special Abilities
-----------------

NOTE: Unless noted, in order to use a special ability, you must charge it by
holding B (when not holding the ball). When the character is flashing
rapidly, release to use the special.

Fire: Fries the enemy in its tracks, causing a good amount of damage
     instantly.

Flood: Send the ball high into the air, only to come crashing down on the
      enemy's head to cause damage.

Magnet: Allows you to take control of the ball and smash it into the enemy,
causing lots of damage. The ball can not be grabbed in this stage by
       the enemy, either!

Plant: Totally stuns the enemy for several seconds, rendering them completely
unable to move or act during that time.

Quake: Stuns your opponent. This severely slows them and makes the opponent
unable to change direction or act for several seconds.

Tornado: Spin around for several seconds, causing a small amount of damage to
        the opponent upon impact.

-=  5. Quest Mode Guide -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

In Quest Mode, you can pick your character, then you end up on a map screen.
There are several areas you can visit. I am going in order by pressing Right
from the God Land (northern tower where you start off).

Earth Land (つち のせ界)
------------------------

Your opponent here is Dezuruto (the Earth elemental), and you must win in a
battle against it. During the match, the enemy will disappear, and two statue
heads will appear in the northern wall. Two smaller blobs will move around
the room, and you must attack them with the ball. When you defeat them, more
will come out from the statue heads. After enough of them are cleared, your
opponent will return for more. If you see it charging up for a special
attack, hit it with your shield (press A) to stop it. Otherwise, the Quake
attack will stun you for several moments, leaving you quite vulnerable.

When you win the battle, you will receive 3 points to use for boosting your
character's statistics!

Metal Land (きんぞく のせ界)
----------------------------

Your opponent is the Metal elemental Metariasu with his magnetic special
ability. Its Magnet ability can make things extremely tricky, since it can
cause you a lot of damage very quickly. If you see this enemy starting to
charge up, hit it to prevent the special ability from being used. There are
two structures in the middle of each side of the room, which you can use to
your advantage when moving around the area. During the match, the room will
change colors from white to purple. Do NOT touch the walls during this time
or you will be stuck to them!

Following a successful battle, you will earn 4 points to use for upgrading
your stats!

Water Land (みず のせ界)
------------------------

The enemy you face here is Akuanto (Water elemental). The room has two
pillars, one at each end of the room, which you can move around to hide from
the enemy as needed. Be careful of this opponent's special move, since you
will get hit from above by the ball if it is executed. During the battle, the
room will change color and your opponent will vanish for a short period. Two
small water pillars will appear and attempt to crush you between them, so
move out of the way to stay safe. When your enemy appears again, the side
pillars will be larger as well.

Once you win the battle, you will have 3 points to use however you want!

Fire Land (ひ のせ界)
---------------------

As you would expect, your opponent is the Fire-based Igunisu. The lava-filled
arena is interesting, but stay away from the walls since you will take damage
if you touch them! Keep an eye on the opponent and stop it from charging up
its special move, since you will get burned if it happens! At some point
during the battle, your opponent will disappear, and the two sections of wall
on the sides will start to glow. Fireballs will rain from above, so watch
their shadows and stay away to avoid damage. Throw the ball repeatedly at the
flashing walls to destroy them, bringing your enemy back.

Upon completion of this battle, you will receive 4 points for upgrading your
character's stats!

Plant Land (き のせ界)
----------------------

You go up against Purantasu, the Plant-based opponent, in this stage. The
room has four holes in the floor, but you can pass over them just fine for
now. The enemy's special ability will render you unable to move or do
anything for a few seconds, so you will want to stop it from being charged up
whenever necessary! The most frustrating part is when the room changes,
leaving you to face two fast-moving plant enemies in place of your main
opponent. You need to defeat them both using the ball, but they move fast and
take a lot of health from you upon contact.

Once you make it through this stage, you will have 2 points to use for your
stat boosting! With the five accessible stages complete, go back to God Land
and choose to continue onward. Watch the scene, then the Wind Land will be
unlocked on your map.

Wind Land (かぜ のせ界)
-----------------------

In this cloud-filled area, you will fight Musutoraru, the Wind-based enemy.
There are two cloud faces in the northern wall; try not to hit them with the
ball or they will hinder your progress here. Beware of the Tornado special,
since it is fast and will take a bit of damage if you are not careful. If you
take enough of its health, it will transform into one of the previous
enemies, complete with a full health bar! The order of transformations is as
follows: Plant, Fire, Water, Metal, Earth.

Once you fully deplete the Earth form's health, you will win the battle! The
Quest Mode will be complete, so congratulations and enjoy the credits!

Passwords
=========

In the game, the password system utilizes a set of nine grids with four
spaces in each. In order to make it fit efficiently in text form, I have
adapted a format of six rows with six spaces in each. These are simply the
passwords I received during the course of my playing through the game, so
they reflect my character, stat upgrades, etc.
