01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to 'Osomatsu-Kun: Back to the Me no Deppa no Maki' (literally a pun on
Back to the Future - Denture Volume) for the NES, an adventure game released by
Bandai in 1989. With a similar theme as the movie, you travel through three
time periods and certain events change the timeline which you need to fix, as
well as defeat the evil time lord. The game is of course based on the famous
manga Osomatsu-Kun and features most of the characters although some only in
smaller cameos.
To avoid unnecessary formatting issues I have decided not to use Japanese
characters in the guide. The game is quite straight forward in where to go and
who to talk to, and the icon menu saves from having to know Japanese.
Knowing Japanese to get through the game might not be essential as you have the
guide, but its quirky humor sure adds to enjoyment. There are many funny things
to try that are not covered by the walkthrough, such as presenting the set of
false dentures to the lord in the edo time period that will get you a game
over.
Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy!

02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
Display:
````````
The main screen of the map has 50% space for the area you can walk around in.
The other 50% is a huge black area with Imayi’s display at the left side and
the state of his dentures, the amount of money you have below his avatar, your
health bar in various lengths as well as your inventory. You generally only
have a few items thus this will never fill up. The black area also doubles for
the story text if you talk to anyone outside.
When you enter a building or enclosed area the view will switch to a smaller
screen of the interior as well as the command buttons at the left side. The
bottom section is used for the story text.
Controls:
`````````
D-Pad Moves around on the map, selects commands
A Button Action (prompt commands, talk in front of a person)
B Button Cancel
Select Toggle Main Menu options
Start Confirm Main Menu selection
Commands:
`````````
The menu is icon based.
Shoe -> Leave/Exit
Ear -> Talk/Listen
Magnifying Glass -> Check (brings up the cursor to point at something)
Light Bulb -> Think
? Paper -> Show/Present (the game will automatically pick the correct
item available else it will just refuse to do anything)
Yen -> Buy/Sell
Clock -> Time Travel
Kneel -> Kneel/Bow
Fist -> Beat/Hit
Flag -> Surrender
Health:
```````
You start with full health and it decreases by fighting or when you have
conversations. To restore you can sleep at the inn (the character with the
black mask) or eat something.
The Inn keeper gives you three choices:
>Exit (return to the outside area, naturally)
>Rest (recovers ~40% health) and costs 2,000 per nap
>Save (gives you a code, (the very last set of Japanese hiragana you will see,
to use at the main menu with the bottom option)
I assume you can handle your own health in the game and do not need to rely on
me telling you run to an inn every time. Each time period has an inn so try to
remember its location.
If you match two food plates in the Concentration game you gain energy in
smaller amounts but as it is cheaper too you can try your luck while also
hoping for the 1,000 coin wins.
Apparently restarting your game with a password allows for replenished health.
This can be used as a trick to save your money although I find the password
input rather tedious and winning money at the Concentration game is easy
enough.
Money:
``````
This becomes important soon enough. A big pile of money is hidden in your house
and it is mandatory to pick that up, and you can find little 20 yen tokens on
the ground which are rather useless but if you for some reason really suck at
the game mentioned below this might be your only way to get money so the game
throws you a bone here. I believe the coins respawn after you re-exit houses.
Gambling houses have a game of “Concentration” for 100 per round, and you can
win 1,000 yen by matching a pair of donuts or something else than the food
plates as well as 10,000 if you managed to turn over all cards available
(including the food ones).
Enemies:
````````
As part of the story, time fiends will arrive (uh, spoilers? Oops too late...)
They will bump into you and you lose a few bars of health. You must avoid this
although bumping once is not too bad, you often get stuck and it will
repeatedly suck your health (the NPCs also love clinging onto you to get you
stuck). If one of these robots thingies is in your way it is best to step into
a building as exiting resets the positions of all the NPCs. This can also be
useful if you are finding a particular person (e.g. Pappan in the prehistoric
time is easily spawn next to the realtor).
Characters:
```````````
Each time period usually employs the same manga characters.
* Osomatsu
* Iyami
* Totoko
* Chibita
* Dayon
* Dekepan
* Hatabo
Additionally there are the siblings Osomatsu belongs to, as well as mom and dad
(mama, papa) and a policeman that spawn in most eras.
I did not plan to go further into the character profiles as you can find this
online.
Items:
``````
These are all the items you will obtain throughout the game, with most of
them having good use:
* Scroll
* Time Instrument
* Katana
* Shuriken
* Sickle and Chain
* Claw toenail
* Daifukumochi
* RC Vehicle
* Rope
* Meat
* Saw
* Mini Stone Bridge
* Cockroach Trap
* Hammer
* Huge tool
* Oden (not used)
* Reward (for alternative ending)
* Dentures (for alternative ending)
I was originally planning to describe the items a little better but for now it
is just list. Look for it in version 2.0! (never hehe)

03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300
===============================================================================
If you wait at the menu you get to see the introduction soon. Press START on
the top option to, well, Start!
Modern Era:
```````````
>Check -> Iyami
>Check -> Iyami
You will get a scroll and automatically leave the house (also not how the
inventory flashes to show you got something new, and how it only does so after
you have arrived in an exterior.) Enter the building at the southeast to find a
lab.
>Talk
>Check -> Time Machine
>Exit
Walk east across the bridge and north into the antique shop.
>Think
>Show
Leave and go south of the bridge, then west to the last door. This is
Osomatsu’s home.
>Check -> Cupboard to find 10,000 yen.
>Leave
Find the girl in the pink dress and press the action button to talk to her. She
is not the OL by the way. Her name is Totoko in katakana. Return to the lab.
>Check -> Time Machine (Dekepan will appear but only if you did the above steps
meaning only if you are done in this place)
>Check -> Dekepan
>Show
>TIME TRAVEL!
Exit to find yourself in the Edo period.
Edo Period:
```````````
At the northern side are four poverty-striken rowhouses. Enter the fourth one
from the left.
>Show
>Talk
>Exit
Enter the third rowhouse from the left
>Talk
>Talk
>Exit
Enter the first rowhouse from the left.
>Check -> Gap in the ceiling to get ninja gear
Return to the time machine
>Think
>Exit
Enter the cave at the northeast corner. Inside you will see a painting and a
sign.
>Check -> Painting
>Check -> Painting to remove the sign
>Exit
Find the girl wandering around the village and talk to her. This is important.
Enter the time machine afterwards.
>Think
>Exit
The town has now been expanded to include the castle at the west side. Enter
this castle.
>Show the sword (to get inside)
>Talk (to move on)
>Kneel
>Check -> Crate
>Check -> Lord
>Check -> Princess
>Show
>Talk
>Exit (you were already out of the Lord’s chamber by now)
>Talk (to the guard)
>Exit
Enter the large mansion southeast from the castle (not the gambling house) and
you will find a hand pointing somewhere.
>Check -> Hand
You are now in a first person maze.
[ ]
|
[^]-[ ]-[ ]
[ ] [S]
This small maze only has the goal of getting the area marked with ^ and looking
at the north wall.
>Think
This will reveal a passage. Walk through to come to another maze.
[ ]-[ ]
| | |
[*]-[ ] [ ]
| |
[ ]-[ ] [S]
Get to the asterisk to find your first fight.
1st option: Katana
2nd option: Shuriken
3rd option: Sickle & Chain
First use the katana twice and oops there is goes into the ceiling. Then use
the Sickle & Chain twice and bam! oh that is why it was stuck in the ceiling!
Continue forward to reach a room with Dayon.
>Talk
>Check -> Scroll with character Shinobi/Shinobu
>Check -> Rope to pull open an entrance
>Exit
Return to the time travel pod.
>Think
>Time Travel
Select “3” Primeval Time
Primeval Time:
``````````````
>Exit
Enter the large brown hut at the west side to find a dentist (gotta love the
tools here).
>Talk
>Think
>Talk
>Exit
Find Chibitan near the on the world map (not the crazy caveman with beard) and
talk to him twice.
Return to the dentist.
>Think
>Talk
>Talk (triggers Totoko to appear)
>Exit
Find Iyami the butcher’s shop in the northeast corner of the map.
>Purchase meat (use the top option to confirm)
>Think
>Talk
>Show the meat
>Exit
You can now enter the wastelands at the north side of the area to find the
dinosaur (Nyarome Saurus - a kind of cat dinosaur).
>Think
>Think
>Check the feet (it will zoom in) to start the attack, and as before:
1st option: Sickle & Chain
2nd option: Katana
3rd option: Shuriken
If you try the katana you die, the shuriken fails but at least no game over,
and naturally the sickle & chain beats the beast. You gain a claw and
automatically return to the main area.
At the dentist:
>Show the claw
>Show the katana (this triggers Totoko again)
>Talk
>Talk
>Think
>Exit
In case you have not noticed yet, there is an apartment at the southeast corner
of the map now. This means the realtor Dayon in the center of town actually
becomes useful. Go visit him:
>Talk
>Talk
>Exit
Next head to the aforementioned apartment building.
>Talk
>Talk
>Talk (Osomatsu-kun appears)
>Think
>Talk
>Show shuriken (we are running low on weapons here now)
You automatically leave.
As he tags along enter the time machine.
>Talk
>Think
>Think
You now have to fight Osomaru.
>Think
>Hit
>Check
>Check (yeah...)
Time Machine
>Time Warp (a short scene will play as you return to the Edo period).
>Exit
Edo Period:
```````````
Enter the upper cave.
>Check the painting
Enter the fourth row house from the left.
>Check (anywhere in the middle)
>Exit
Re-enter to have Iyami appear.
>Check his tooth
>Show
>Show
>Exit and you should have the ropes removed now
Find the princess and talk to her. Remember that there is another lady in a
pink dress so do not mistake the two.
Play Concentration until you match the two Daifukumochi (looks like a flat
egg). The gambling house is next to the time machine in case you need help
finding it. Give that mocha to the princess.
Enter the big white walled temple where Dayon greets you.
>Talk
>Exit
Enter the time machine.
>Time Travel
Pick the first option to return to the modern times.
>Exit
Modern Era:
```````````
Things have changed around here and you have probably seen a movie or played a
game were changing the past changes the future... ok Back to the Fun: If you
run into the pink thing you lose some health. The noodle shop is now a toy
store.
You are automatically in the lab.
>Talk
>Show
Enter Iyami’s house at the north.
>Check the teeth
>Think
>Exit
Walk south at the bridge and turn west to your home.
>Talk
>Check mama
>Exit
Go north on the bridge directly into the antique shop.
>Show the dentures (teeth)
>Sell the dentures for a cool 10,000 yen
>Exit
Return south from the bridge and this time walk further south past the house
with the “?” and into the toy store.
>Buy a RC racer (agree with the top option. It costs 3,000 but you have lots
from the sale just now)
>Exit
Step into the eastern park with the pipes that acts as the home of Chibita.
>Talk
>Exit
Next you should return to your home again but rather than your mom waiting
there the siblings should have gathered. This seems kind of random to trigger.
I tried many things and it did not make and concrete sense so I would suggest
running around town and talking to everyone (Talk, Think generally helps,
looking at them might too) and eventually when you get back to the house the
mom should be gone. Try talking to her and looking her again too.
>Show
>Show
This creates a row and you can actually walk around in this way. The time enemy
that hurts you still roams around so be careful. Make your way to the lab.
>Time Travel
>Time Travel
Primeval Times:
```````````````
>Exit
The time enemies are here too now, in green rather than pink. Enter the realtor
at the center of town.
>Talk (triggers Dayon)
>Talk
>Exit
Find Pappan walking around outside (not the crazy-looking guy) and talk to him.
Return to the realtor.
>Talk (he will start sobbing so you know you are on the right track)
>Exit
Enter the time machine to have a quick chat with the siblings and then Exit
with them together.
A new area at the west side has opened up. Approach it from the southwest and
wind around to an apartment block.
>Talk
>Talk
>Talk
A top-down view will show the siblings in the cave.
First talk to the sibling in the northwest area. Next talk to the one in the
center north, then directly south of this position, and eventually the one in
the east. This will open a path at the northeast leading to a fight.
>Check
>Check
>Talk
>Think
Return to the realtor.
>Talk
>Exit
Find the butcher in the northeast cave.
>Buy the meat stick (dumpling?) for 500 yen (agree with the top option)
>Exit
Enter the time machine.
>Think
>Time Travel
>Talk
>Think
>Time Travel
Pick the first option to return to modern days.
Modern Era:
```````````
>Exit
>Talk
>Exit
The time fiends are gone now. Enter your pipe “house” at the east side.
>Think
>Show the time instrument and he will stop crying
>Talk
>Exit
Enter your house.
>Check Ossomatsun
>Check the room
>Check the back door gap (mama will appear)
>Talk
>Check mama
>Check mama
>Think
>Think
>Exit
Go back to Chibita at his pipes.
>Talk
>Exit
You got the time instrument back. Return to your house.
>Show time instrument
>Check mama (and leave automatically)
Enter the lab.
>Time Travel
A small scene will play.
>Exit
Primeval Times:
```````````````
Talk to Pappan first, then enter the realtor.
>Talk
>Talk
Take the group to the southwest side and approach the stone slab on the west
side of the lake for a quick message (this is the quarry). Walk up to the cave
entrance you visited earlier.
>Think
>Think
>Exit (got an oar)
Walk back down into the quarry and another scene will play. You exchange items.
You now have a mini stone bridge that can cover the gap in the bridge at the
north side (in case you noticed it while exploring). Go there now. If you do
not have enough life you will automatically flee so rest up first. When ready
you will enter a battle with the Time King.
Keep using commands until eventually the little characters show up on the
screen (it seems random?).
>Talk
>Exit
Return to the butchers.
>Talk
>Talk
Return to the time machine (it’s in the north).
>Time Travel
Pick the top option to travel to modern days.
Modern Era:
```````````
>Exit
>Exit
Talk to Hatabo out here. You have seen her on the jump rope or whatever she is
floating around.
From the bridge go north into the antique shop.
>Talk
>Think
>Buy (a hammer)
>Exit
Return to the lab and Dekapan will automatically talk to you.
>Talk
>Think
>Talk
>Show time instrument
>Check time machine
>Think
>Check Dekapan
You will leave automatically with a new tool. Go to your house next.
>Talk
>Check the room (anywhere should work)
>Think
>Talk
>Check the back room (mama will leave, papa will arrive)
He will automatically give you an item and you leave. Let’s go time travelling
again (at the lab).
>Time Travel
>Time Travel
>Exit
Primeval Times:
```````````````
Find Pappan and talk to him. Re-enter the fight with the Time King.
>Any buttons until you can eventually...
>Surrender (which will make Osomattsun disappear from the view)
>Talk
>Check the top of the plateau (it is a little tricky to get the exact spot, and
after 2 failed attempts you unfortunately die. Try to hit the grassy area on
the cliff).
After you beat the monster take the group to the southeast apartment. The time
enemies are now gone.
>Talk
Take the gang back to the time machine.
>Time Travel
>Exit
Edo Period:
```````````
You can optionally give the dentures to the lord for a reward and some extra
storyline but it is not required to finish the game. There are additional
scenes as well as the chance to achieve an alternative bad ending (by going
back to your house in the present with the reward).
Enter the fourth row house at the top (from the left).
>Talk
>Exit
Enter the temple with Dayon at the south.
>Talk
>Talk
Enter the guard house at the west end.
>Talk
Enter the castle gates.
(>Hit him FOR THE BAD ENDING!!)
>Surrender
The End
