Game Data:
Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu
JAPAN 1992 | ACTION/FIGHTING
Created by Technos Japan.
Literal Translation : "Hotblood Fighting Epic"
Commonly Refered To As "Riki Kunio"
1 to 4 players

Story:
At Nekketsu High School, Kunio finding a note pinned to his locker inviting
him to a martial arts tournament. Riki comes along and finds the note, and
can't let Kunio kick some booty without him. Toraji and Toraichi make their
first and last appearance in this game, but they outperform Kunio, Riki, and
every other character in the series on the coolness scale. In a innovative
twist for a Technos game, you can also enter yourself in the tournament, and
the game will create a player based on your personal statistics.

Review:
This is my favorite NES game.
It is a straight through tournament fighter. You can join the computer or a
friend to fight your way through story mode to ending on a showdown with
Toraichi and Toraji, or you can fight up to 3 others in an all-out brawl.
Excellent action and control, beautiful graphics, great music, excellent
secrets, and 5 different classes of fighters to learn, each with a better
movelist than the ones you get on Marvel -vs- Capcom 2.
This game is part of the Nekketsu series of games starring Kunio. If you are
American, think "Super Dodge Ball" and "River City Ransom".

About This FAQ:
Version 1.
To be added: More secrets, the Toraichi and Toraji Hiragana passwords
(yes, they exist), movelists.

This page is a downgraded version of http://www.rahga.com/nkd/ . If possible,
I suggest going there instead, because it contains a GIF of the Hiragana-based
passwords.

Many of the secrets can also befound on these Japanese sites, along with extra
and less reliable information, such as working theories on character creation:

I'll add more links to sites that have less to do with this game and more with
the series in the next revision.

If you can't read Japanese.....
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
There is a IPS patch for the game availiable at
http://utd.dynip.com/oc/rikikunio/ .
If you are more of a purist, you shouldn't have too much trouble with this
game. Mashing A over and over will get you through most screens. After the
title screen, you can choose to play the story mode (top) or the battle
mode (bottom). Story goes through a tournament to meet with "Double Tiger".
The other option lets you and 3 other fighters duke it out in an exhibition
match.
After choosing the game mode, you will be able to create a character. First
you will be asked to enter either your name (1st option) or a password (2nd
option). Create a 5-character name, and choose "end" in the bottom corner.
You will then be asked to choose a birthday and your blood type (explained
below). The rest is automatic. In between fights, you can check on the
status of your fighter and where you rank in the tournament.
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Creating a character
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
There are 5 times as many Astrologers in America than Astronomers. Yep,
enough of us Westerners believe in astrological signs and the complete bull
associated with it all. But, like it or not, it's kinda worse in the
Eastern countries. Even in some video games, like Gradius III, you are
forced to give your sign in the high score list! The thought is that your
sign, blood type, and name help defines who you are and how you act. So, in
creating characters for play from scratch, why would Technos assign random
stats? By using your personal information, they can create a fighter that
reflects the true you!

Unfortunately, I'm still having a hard time figuring out how all of this
works out, as are many others out there. With the cheats you will find at
the bottom of the page, most of us quit caring as much about creating
fighters anyway. Nevertheless, I have not discovered what role blood type
plays yet. In case you are wondering about the "real life" view, most
opinions say:
A : social introvert, perfecitionist
B : social extrovert, overbearing
AB : strong, natural leader, quirky
O : hyper-motivated, healthy, insecure

Your name also plays a significant part in the starting attributes you get
under speed, strength, etc. I do not yet know how it is calculated, but I
have seen several theories and basic charts which don't always work.

Character Creation: Names, Birthdays, and Blood Types.
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The special moves are assigned based on your birthday. The following chart
has only 20 patterns, and each pattern is simply a list of moves you will be
assigned. For January, from the 1st through the 20th, the number of the day
is the same number of the pattern that you are assigned. After you reach the
number 20, start back at 1 on the pattern list. Beyond January, add 1 for
each month.
For example: Jan 10th, Jan 30th, Feb 11th, and October 30th use pattern # 10.

+-------------+-------------+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+----+
I'm still not sure how much of an effect compatibility has on the game, but I know
that it is measured in at least 5 levels, because there are 5 different team outfit
colors. The best color is Red, followed by Blue, White, Green, and finally Yellow.
For example, Kunio is a Sagittarius, obviously the friendliest sign of the zodiac.
This means he works best with a Taurus, Aries, Leo, or a Virgo. Lo and behold, Riki
is a Taurus. Perfect team, eh?

+----------------------------------------------------------------+
Game Endings
+----------------------------------------------------------------+
There are three different endings to the game, each one
differs from the others only slightly.
To access them:
* Ending #1: Beat the 1p story without Kunio
* Ending #2: Beat the 2p story.
* Ending #3: The best ending, beat the 1p story with Kunio

Story mode with stock characters.
+----------------------------------------------------------------+
To play as Riki, Kunio, or any other of
the main characters with their initial
statistics, just get the password for
them from their status screen shown in
battle mode. The cheat sections has
passwords for every character at full
power.

Normally in battle mode, each character can be used only by
one player at a time. To remove this restriction, hold down
A+B on the second controller while pressing START on
controller one at the title screen.

Play as Toraji and Toraichi
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
This secret is a personal favorite of mine. Select battle mode,
the number of players you want to use, then press RIGHT to
choose not to use a custom character but don't press A yet.
Hold down SELECT and continue holding it for the entire process.
Press A to enter the character select screen. Once there, press
and hold Right if you want to use Toraji, or press and hold Left
