* SECTION I: INTRODUCTION *
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to "The Complete Handbook to Mega Man 2" written by me, Colin
Moriarty. Within you'll find information to help you beat this game and
even more information to help you enjoy yourself as you play.

This guide, as of June 14, 2001, was written over a year ago, but I felt
the need to make this the final version of the guide as I change a few things,
edit a few things, and whatnot. I'm busy writing new guides, and this guide has
been as complete as possible for over a year now, so I'm just going to close
it.

You're still more than welcome to send your Mega Man related questions (or any
question you might have for any videogame I've written a guide for, for that
matter), to me via e-mail at [email protected], but no more suggestions
for the guide, and I reiterate - you CANNOT have this guide on your site (only
GameFAQs is authorized), so please don't ask. Onward.

[The HTML version of this walkthrough can no longer be found on protoman.com.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.]

SECTION II: VERSIONS, VARIOUS NOTES, ET CETERA
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

*Versions of this guide:

*Version 1.0 - Initial Release (January 04, 2000)

*Version 1.5 - Second Release (January 06, 2000)
- I updated and completely finished the Robot Master profiles with the right
and accurate calculations.
- I put up the damage charts for both the "Normal" and "Difficult" modes.
- This will -probably- be the final update of this guide, as there is nothing
else to really be done on it. Of course, if I happen to find something new, you
can bet that I'll be updating this guide ASAP in that case! =)

*Version 2.0 - Third Release (February 01, 2000)
- Okay, so I lied! Actually, I just updated the guide because I recently got
rid of AOL, and I had to update my e-mail address, and AIM screen name. So if
you want to e-mail me, my new e-mail address is [email protected] and
my new SN for AIM is QuickMan311.

*Version 2.5 - Fourth Release (February 24, 2001)
-Alright guys, this is it. I've edited a few things, changed my e-mail address
(it is now [email protected]), updated a few things here and there, and
made it clear that this guide is to only be found on GameFAQs, and if it's
found anywhere else, let me know. If it's found on Gamewinners, let it go, I
gave Al permission to use it a long time ago, so I won't be mad at him for
that, that isn't his fault I suddenly changed my policy.

*Version FINAL - Fifth and FINAL Release (June 14, 2001)
- I took the liberty of adding an "ending" section to the guide, so that people,
aware that it is a spoilers section, can read about the ending and see the closing
credits as well, basically just for reference purposes. Also, I added the "main
screen" information (the basic game copyright information) for reference as well,
and it can be found below, right in Section III. Additionally, I added an "About
The Author" segment to Section X, if you're so obliged to check it out, please be
my guest.
- This guide is now considered "closed and final" which means that it will no
longer ever be updated. Your still welcome (and encouraged) to send questions
regarding this game (or any other game I've written a walkthrough for) my way
at [email protected], and if you want to chat about games, my AOL
screen name (instant messenger only) is CMoriarty311. I no longer use mIRC (at
EsperNet) or ICQ. Thanks for supporting the guide.

Various Notes:

Well, welcome to my guide for Mega Man 2. This game is a classic game for the
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) released in 1989 by Capcom. Mega Man 2 is
one of the first games on ANY platform to support a password function, and it
also had a difficulty setting, two pioneering elements of almost all videogames
today. It features intuitive design, a stage select screen (where you can
choose the order in which to beat the various stages of the game), and great
character and enemy design as well. This game is a great challenge, and I hope
my guide helps you in your quest to complete the game in its entirety, the
quest of gamers everywhere.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* SECTION III: Storyline/Plot *
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mega Man 2 is my personal favorite Mega Man game, for any system. I believe it
to have the coolest Robot Masters, and the funnest gameplay. It's not the
longest or hardest Mega Man game by any means (even on the Difficult mode), but
it's fun never the less.

Anyway, the story goes like this... straight from the beginning of the game, I
might add!

"In the year 200X, a super robot named Mega Man was created. Dr. Light created
Mega Man to stop the evil desires of Dr. Wily. However, after his defeat, Dr.
Wily created eight of his own robot to counter Mega Man..."

----> [What appears on the screen when you turn the game on]

                     MEGA
                      MAN
                       II

                   >NORMAL
                    DIFFICULT

                   PRESS START

[on the righthand side of the screen is a sidescrapper with Mega Man on top of it.]

That pretty much sums it up. Dr. Wily is bitter because of his prior defeat in
Mega Man I, so instead of stealing pre-made robots, as all six of the robot
masters in the first Mega Man game were Dr. Light's creations, he creates eight
of his own, which are much stronger then the original six. Onward...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* SECTION IV: CHARACTERS*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

(You'll notice that some of these are identical to the "Boss Stats"
found at protoman.com, and well... they are! But fear not, this is just
because I wrote those "Boss Stats" at protoman.com and they are my
property. So no, I am not plagiarizing in anyway, those are mine. And
you can view them in HTML along with pictures of the characters etc. at
www.protoman.com. Also, they are in no particular order... Mega Man comes
first, but afterwards, the eight robot masters are in order of the
suggested order to beat them in.)

How I get these numbers that are on the Robot Master/Character profiles:

For the Robot Masters, mainly, there are some simple AND some complicated
calculations I perform to see how strong an enemy is. Because of the fact that
these are original, I would rather -not- share them with the public, because
they took me a long time to figure out and they are my own calculation methods.
If you're that interested in it, e-mail me. Just be aware that these are as
accurate as they get, 'kay? =)

Name: Mega Man
Number: #001
Weapon: Mega Buster
Height: 4'4"
Strength: ???
Dexterity: ???
Intelligence: ???
Agility: ???
Stamina: ???
Difficulty: N/A
Overall: ???

Mega Man, the star of the program, is Dr. Light's star robot. It is his
job to destroy the six stolen robots, and eventually, Dr. Wily himself.
But can he do it? Can he save Megaopolis and the world? Only time will
tell!

----------

Name: Metal Man
Number: #009
Weapon: Metal Blade
Height: 4'6"
Strength: 50
Dexterity: 60
Intelligence: 100
Agility: 63
Stamina: 92
Difficulty: 41
Overall: 68 (average)

Metal Man is a menace of sorts. He is quite agile and swift, but he won't
attack you unless you attack him first! He'll jump around a bit, throw a Metal
Blade or two at you, but unless you move towards him or fire at him, he'll stay
stationary on the other side of his lair! And get this!... one hit with his own
weapon and he's a goner!

----------

Name: Flash Man
Weapon: Time Stopper
Height: 4'5"
Strength: 35
Dexterity: 80
Intelligence: 56
Agility: 48
Stamina: 96
Difficulty: 40
Overall: 59 (below average)

Flash Man is a weaker Robot Master, but can still be a pain to beat. The
unusual layout of his lair and the consistancy of his attacks can make him hard
to beat. The regular Metal Blade works fine on him, but you may want to try the
regular Mega Buster instead; it too works wonders.

----------

Name: Quick Man
Weapon: Quick Boomerangs
Height: 4'7"
Strength: 73
Dexterity: 60
Intelligence: 78
Agility: 100
Stamina: 93
Difficulty: 70
Overall: 79 (above average)

My personal favorite Robot Master ever (and my mIRC name!), Quick Man is not
only agile and smart with his attacks, but he is persistant as well. He will
stay all over you until you make your move, and he follows you around his lair.
He, like Flash Man, also has an extremly annoying lair layout, and his ceiling
(in his lair) are extra high, because baby, can this guy jump! There are two
weapons of choice against Quickie; The Time Stopper (which drains half of his
energy and then you have to finish him off with the Mega Buster), or Crash
Bombs, which do quite a lot of damage, but are hard to connect against this
fast moving Robot Master.

----------

Name: Wood Man
Weapon: Leaf Shield
Height: 4'10"
Strength: 74
Dexterity: 80
Intelligence: 79
Agility: 33
Stamina: 79
Difficulty: 70
Overall: 69 (average)

Wood Man is a sinch with Metal Man's Metal Blades equipped. Wood Man has a
shield of leaves that protect him as he hops closer and closer to your end of
the lair. When he is done with that shield, he then chucks it at you and
launches four leaves into the air that come down at Mega Man and are hard to
avoid. Take out Wood Man best you can with the Metal Blades, just keep firing
at him!

----------

Name: Air Man
Weapon: Air Shooter
Height: 5'0"
Strength: 81
Dexterity: 60
Intelligence: 90
Agility: 35
Stamina: 102
Difficulty: 70
Overall: 73(above average)

Air Man is a large robot with a fan built into his body. This fan pushes
against Mega Man, keeping him away, while the shooter on his arm fires tornados
all over the place, which are extremly hard to avoid. Equip Wood Man's Leaf
Shield to get around this guy, and keep hitting/throwing Leaf Shields at him to
destroy him in no time.

Name: Crash Man
Weapon: Crash Bombs
Height: 4'8"
Strength: 85
Dexterity: 60
Intelligence: 63
Agility: 79
Stamina: 67
Difficulty: 50
Overall: 67 (average)

Crash Man (also known as Clash Man to some) is a fearsome robot and is probably
the most difficult robot master to defeat in the game, without the aid of Air
Man's weapon, the Air Shooter. Crash Man jumps around his lair like a mad man
and tosses his explosive Crash Bombs everywhere he goes. They do damage even if
they just hit you and don't explode. If they land on a wall, run away! (as to
not get hit by the explosion). Just fire the Air Shooter at this guy until he's
toast.

----------

Name: Bubble Man
Weapon: Bubble Lead
Height: 4'6"
Strength: 66
Dexterity: 80
Intelligence: 75
Agility: 35
Stamina: 93
Difficulty: 50
Overall: 67 (average)

Bubble Man is the undersea Robot Master of Mega Man II. His stage can be
difficult because it is lined with spikes on the ceiling, and it's easy to get
pushed into them because you jump very high in the water in this game. Bubble
Man himself has a lair lined with spikes on the ceiling, but he isn't hard
himself. The Mega Buster works just fine on him.

----------

Name: Heat Man
Weapon: Atomic Fire
Height: 4'3"
Strength: 74
Dexterity: 100
Intelligence: 88
Agility: 90
Stamina: 87
Difficulty: 79
Overall: 86 (very good)

The lil' lighter-like character, Heat Man can be quite the pain to defeat, if
it wasn't for his obvious weakness of water. Equip the Bubble Lead and take
this guy out of commission. Be careful for Heat Man's various attacks. He's
agile and bursts across the room in a great fireball everytime he is hit with a
weapon, any weapon... so be weary of that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* SECTION V: WALKTHROUGH*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This walkthrough is as complete as it can get. It will help you in your quest
to defeat Mega Man II. You can follow it line by line, or you can simply use it
to refer to if you're stuck! If there is something not on the walkthrough that
you come up to in the game (which is highly unlikely! =P), feel free to e-mail
me at [email protected]. Other forms of contact can be found at the beginning
of this guide, so check there as well. Here we go...!

(before we start, there are passwords throughout the walkthrough. There are
eight different ones in all in this walkthrough, and even though it says that
you have just weapons, there may be from zero to four E-Tanks in those
passwords as well, just so you're aware!)

For quick refrence if you don't need the entire walkthrough, here is the order
I -suggest- you beat the eight Robot Masters in. (this doesn't mean you have to
do it this way, and in all actuallity, the order in which I beat them in is
rare, but I find it to be more effective then any other method out there.) Here
is the list:

Metal Man (use Mega Buster)
Flash Man (use Metal Blades or Mega Buster)
Quick Man (use Flash Stopper and then Mega Buster)
Wood Man (use Metal Blades)
Air Man (use Leaf Shield)
Crash Man (use Air Shooter)
Bubble Man (use Mega Buster or Metal Blades)
Heat Man (use Bubble Lead)

And if you need the most complete Mega Man II walkthrough on the Internet, well
then, here it is!...

-=METAL MAN=- (1st out of 8)

Metal Man's stage is made up of conveyor belts that pull you or push you in
different directions. Remember to keep moving as you go along, and don't let
your eyes wander off of the screen for a minute, because these conveyor belts
can be hell if you're not paying full attention.

Metal Man's stage starts out on a conveyor belt that is pushing you towards a
pit. Jump over this pit, and continue to your right. Now the conveyor belts are
pushing you backwards towards the same pit. Take the bottom conveyor belt all
the way to the end to pick up the E-Tank, then go back to your left, and jump
onto the uppermost conveyor belt that is pushing you towards your left as well.

Now, you're in a part that has large spike mechanisms going up and down. The go
up slow and come down fast, and each is timed, so keep this in mind. Get
through this (and time the mechanisms if you want), and continue to your right.
(also be careful of the small conveyor belts that push you into the mechansisms
and the one that pushes you into a pit. They make things a little more
complicated.) Now you're in a narrow passageway that has corn on the cob-
looking robots coming out of the floor and ceiling. Blast away at them and keep
running. (don't worry about getting hit; chances are the destoryed robots will
leave behind energy pellets).

Once you get onto the conveyor belts and the corn on the cob-looking robots
stop appearing, you're nearing the end of that part. Continue going right. Jump
from conveyor belt to conveyor belt and watch which way the arrows are pointing
so you know which way you're gonna be forced. Ignore the extra life on the top
conveyor belt, and jump into the ditch. Slide straight across the conveyor belt
and down into the next ditch.

Now you're on a conveyor belt that is pushing you against a wall. Keep jumping
to your right until you get to a few eneimes that are clowns on tires. Try
killing the tires, because the clowns die automatically if there is no tire.
Jump on the platforms (and keep watching the arrows) and back onto another
conveyor belt. Kill the next two tire enemies and the one four-part tincan-
looking robot. (hit him in the eyes, he's immune to shots anywhere else on his
body.) Continue going towards your right. Kill the next two tincan robots and
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET THE E-TANK IN THE LITTLE CREVASE!!! It's a trap and there
is a 95% chance you won't get out of the crevace without hitting your head on
the ceiling while trying to jump out and then you'll fall into the pit and die.
If you are desperate for the E-Tank and you can afford to lose a life, be my
guest.

Onward! Jump over the large pit and be careful of the silver robot sliding
along the floor. (he'll persue you if you're on the same platform as him, so
keep jumping to keep him away from you. The next platform has two of these
silver robots. Avoid them as well. Enter Metal Man's lair.

-Metal Man Strategy-

Metal Man is an odd fighter. He won't do anything to you if you don't attack
him and you don't move. But the minute you move or shoot at him, he goes
ballistic. Simply try to avoid his Metal Blades the best you can and fire in
his general direction. (he's hard to aim at, so that's your best bet). When he
is defeated you get his weapon, the Metal Blades! Move on to the next stage on
our list, Flash Man!

-=FLASH MAN=- (2nd out of 8)

Flash Man's stage is a... flashy [=P] stage. The platforms that you land on are
all slippy and slidy, so be careful not to slide into enemies or into pits.
(there are very few pits on this stage). There are many false passages in this
stage, so you may want to follow this closely.

Walk (or slide) to your right. Take the bottom path with the pink robot that is
shooting at you. Don't worry about getting hit; just kill him and go to the top
to get the energy pellet. After getting the energy pellet, go back down.
Continue right along the bottom-most path. Jump up and kill another pink robot,
and then make another jump and continue right once again.

Drop down and continue right. Then turn around, kill the pink robot to your
left, jump on the platform he was inhabiting, and then from there you can to
the next platform and jump down the ditch.

Kill the AT-ST looking robot (from Star Wars), then kill the pilot. Go down the
ditch and hug the left wall so you get into that little passage way, and fall
down that ditch. (this helps you avoid any monsters and to also get some
items). Drop down the long ditch, and drop down the next long ditch, and you'll
get to a few platforms with this werid robot shooting boomerang-type things out
of it. Equip the Metal Blade and kill them (it only takes one hit with the
Metal Blades. And remember, the Metal Blade is one of the weapons you can shoot
in eight directions with, so use that to your advantage.)

Fall down the ditch again and fight another AT-ST robot. (use the little hole
with the energy pellet in it to your advantage.) Then, go left and down another
ditch. Go to your right and jump each step carefully until you get to a
platform with the E-Tank on it. (that's two!) Then, turn back around and drop
down. Fight the AT-ST robot, kill the pilot and go right. Jump on the platform
and from there, jump onto the small platform next to Flash Man's lair. Enter
and have the Metal Blades equipped.

-Flash Man Strategy-

Flash Man is simple with just the Mega Buster equipped. He's slow and not too
powerful, but the awkward layout of his lair can give you a more difficult
time. Just keep away from him, and fire a lot... six or seven shots should take
care of him. When you defeat him, you'll get the Time Stopper and Item-3. Move
on to Quick Man's stage.

-=QUICK MAN=- (3rd out of 8)

Quick Man's board is difficult, but extremly straight-forward. You'll find your
biggest challenge(s) in the game just ahead.

The board starts off with you on a platform. To your left on a high ledge is a
Extra Life. Equip the newly acquired Item-3 and use it to get up there.
Retrieve the extra life and drop down the ditch to your right.

Next, equip the Metal Blades and take care of the two boomerang throwers on the
floor. (use the diaganol trick to help you out.) Again, drop down the ditch,
this time on your lefthand side.

Next comes the first tricky part of the stage. Equip the Time Stopper and when
you see yellowish beams flying out of the walls, use it. It will freeze
everything until the meter runs out. Make haste and get all the way to the
bottom. (if you are able, get to the right so you can get all of the goodies
there; a free guy, some weapon energy, and an E-Tank.)

Now start moving right. It gets dark, and then light again when you run into a
fie-throwing robot. Kill it while avoiding the fire he shoots out of his head,
and move on. When you kill him, it'll get dark again. Move to your right and
you'll run into another one. Kill him as well, and it will, again, get dark.
Move to you right. Now, when it feels like you're getting no where, jump, and
you should land on a higher platform. Continue right and you'll fall down a
ditch. (there is a third firethrower too, just kill him as well.)

Equip the Flash Stopper right away and put it on. Here is the more difficult
part of the board. (and after this, the hard parts are over 'til Wily's
castle!) Collect any items you can along the way. Once you've dropped all the
way down, take on the AT-ST robot and kill the pilot as well. If you want to
run around in front of Quick Man's lair to get weapon energy, feel free. You
may want to use the Flash Stopper if you have it on Quick Man, as it instantly
drains half of his energy. If not, you can simply use the Mega Buster. Go right
and enter his lair.

-Quick Man Strategy-

Quick Man is simple to beat, he's just hard to keep track of, as he is extremly
swift and agile... quick. =) If you have the Flash Stopper, use it right away
to
drain away half of his energy. Then hit him hard with the Mega Buster. When he
is defeated, you get the Quick Boomerangs. Go on to Wood Man's stage.

-=WOOD MAN=- (4th out of 8)

In this forested area, you'll find many varities of enemies, so be careful.
Proceed to your right. Those black balls on the trees (and all over this stage)
turn into bats when you get too close, so be prepared to kill them when the
open up. If you let them linger too long, they'll start shooting at you, so be
aware of that. Kill the bats and keep going right. Shoot the purple rabbit and
the next bat you come across. Go right some more, and kill the bats and rabbits
as you go. When you get to the ladder on the far right side, go down it.

In this next room there are three more bats. Kill them and go down the next
ladder on the left side of the room. This next part has a huge blue dog-robot
shooting streams of fire at you. If you stand on the small platform between the
highest platform and the floor, and keep jumping his fire and shoot at him, you
should be okay to go. When you defeat him go right into the next screen. This
screen has another one of the dogs, but his shots of fire are a little more
difficult to avoid. Don't worry about getting hit once or twice (and remember
to use the "when you're hit you're temporarily invisable" trick on this guy.
Simply concentrate on killing him, and move to your right into the next screen.
Another dog is here. Use the same strategy, although his fire is again possible
to jump, being that this part has irregular ceilings which are high enough for
to jump. Move again to the next screen on your right.

Go up the ladder on the far right. Go to your right. You're now outside. Watch
the apes that hang from the platforms. Wait for them to jump up to the platform
(don't stand directly above them), and then shoot and kill them and move on.
Jump to the next platform and repeat. Also watch out for the birds with eggs.
Try hitting the eggs before they hit solid ground so they don't break and that
way you don't have to deal with the many small birds buzzing around. (although
they are good for goodies if you need energy and such.) Keep going right,
killing birds, bird eggs, and apes as you go. You eventually end up back
inside. Go all the way to the right and down the ladder.

Kill the rabbit you find here and go down the next ladder. Repeat with this
rabbit as well. Proceed down the next ladder. Kill this rabbit also. Down the
next ladder you'll find that you're back outside. Rooster-bird like things will
come running at you as you go right. Don't bother killing them or shooting at
them. If you time things right, they'll jump right over your head and you'll go
free and unharmed. When you get to Wood Man's lair, go in.

-Wood Man Strategy-

Wood Man has a versitile artilery of weapons. His shield is used as both a
protection device and a weapon (as he throws the shield at you when he is done
with it.) He also has the leaves that fly from the air down upon Mega Man. Be
weary of all of his attacks. Equip the Metal Blade and keep chucking them at
him. If you're quick enough, you'll destroy him before he really gets started.
When he's defeated you'll get the Leaf Shield. Move on to Air Man.

-=AIR MAN=- (5th out of 8)

Air Man's stage takes place all in the air. The main hazard on this stage is
the endless amounts of pits and ditches there are to fall in. Make your jumps
carefully in this stage, and watch out for the many flying robots that can
knock you out of the air and out of commission as well.

You begin in the beginning right by a large floating heat with two horns and
little things coming out of each horn area. Kill the little guys and wait for
the horns to go down into his head, and then jump onto his head. Kill the
little guys and wait for the horns to go down again, and jump onto the
platform. Repeat this procedure for the next one coming right up. Keep doing
this until you get over all six heads. Now there are clouds floating around
with robots holding lightning bolts in their hands. You must kill the guys in
the clouds and jump in them, going from cloud to cloud until you get to the
other side. Do this, I can wait. *waits* Done? Good. Okay... next... (note:
when
you behind clouds in this stage, try to picture where you are... it helps.)

Now that you're on the other side, quite a few birds holding eggs come your
way. Kill the eggs before they hit the platform (and the birds as well if you
can/want) and keep moving to your right. When you get all the way to the end,
walk to the far side of the screen to the right and you'll fall into a ditch
that was hidden by a cloud. From here, equip the Metal Blades and kill those
two boomerang shooters. Then go to the far left side of the screen and and fall
down another hidden-by-a-cloud ditch. You can't see yourself when you land, but
you're behind that cloud. Walk to the right. Here are more faces with horns.
Repeat the prior steps from the second paragraph. Jump from platform to
platform after that until you get to the navy blue fat guys with fans in their
chests, similar to Air Man himself. Kill them and move on. (make sure to not
let them blow you into a ditch.) Be careful of the birds with eggs at this part
as well. Keep going right... enter Air Man's lair. (and have the Leaf Shield
equipped before going in.)

-Air Man Strategy-

Air Man shoots many Tornados that knock you back and take away a good chunk of
energy. When he takes his very shorts rests between shots, put on and then
immediately fire the Leaf Shield at him. If you get too close, he'll jump to
the
other side of the room, which is a good time to then equip the Leaf Shield as a
regular ol' shield and run into him. Only two shots to kill him with the Leaf
Shield. When he dies, you'll get the Air Shooter and Item-2.

-=Crash Man=- (6th out of 8)

This board can get a bit tedious, so bear with me. In the beginning here, you
have two platforms and three ladders, with three pipes sending out little
floaty robots. Kill the robots best you can and climb up the ladders quickly,
because those little robots keep coming back!

In this next area, you have the same sort of thing going on. Just be careful
not to get hit by the flying robots, because you may fall back down to the very
beginning of the level and then you'll have to start all over again. Move up
the ladder and to the right. Kill the HardHats, and go up the next ladder.
These next few parts are pretty self explanatory. Similar to Guts Man's level
in Mega Man I, you have to maneuver through a few screen's worth of mechanisms
that have moving platforms. Just equip the Metal Blade and kill the flying
robots (and remember to use the shooting in eight directions to your advantage)
and get up the three increasing-in-difficulty mechanisms.

When you're done with that part, go back to the Mega Buster and head up the
ladder and to the right. Kill the paintcan guys (from Metal Man's board) and
climb up the ladder on the right side. Climb up two screens. When you get to
the top of the ladder, you'll see a HardHat on the farthest platform to the
left away from you. Get near to him so he opens his shell up and then shoot him
and back up. He'll die and you can up the ladder he was guarding.

Here you will have two choices; the left ladder or the right ladder. Take the
left one. Go all the way up until you have three more choices. Take the middle
ladder all the way up two screens until you get to the E-Tank. Get the E-Tank
and then equip Item-2 (the Jet). Put it on briefly, and use it as a stepping
stone to get up to the main platform. Unequip Item-2. (be aware of the flying
birds as you that area, as the eggs and the birds that come out of the eggs are
dangerous, and they knock you off the ladder.)

There are two ladders you can take here. Take the left one again, and go all
the way up and take the Extra Life. Avoid the helicopter-like enemies and go
all the way to your left. Entire Crash Man's lair.

-Crash Man Strategy-

He's SOOOOO simple with the Air Shooter. Simply equip the Air Shooter and when
he jumps in the air to throw Crash bombs, shoot him down with the Air Shooter!
Two or three hits and he's toast. When you beat him, you get the all useful
Crash Bombs. Go on to Bubble Man's stage!

-=BUBBLE MAN=- (7th out of 8)

Bubble Man's stage is fairly easy. The only difficult part of it all is the
spiked ceilings that make it difficult to accurately jump, as the water gives
you an extra boost that shoots you straight to the ceiling!

In the beginning you're outside, in front of a waterfall. There are several
platforms that you have to jump to. Watch out for the frogs. They shoot little
frogs out of their mouths that are a pain to kill, so try to kill the big frog
before he gets a chance to launch the little ones. When you kill three of the
frogs you'll come to brick-like pink stepping stones. Be careful on these, as
once you step on them, they fall, so you have to be quick and jump from stone
to
stone as quickly as you can. When you are off of those, go all the way to the
right and down the hole. There are three crabs here, on three different
platforms. Kill them all and continue downwards. Kill some more crabs and jump
down.

Here, you are now in water. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU JUMP!!!! The ceilings are lined
with spikes. Once touch and they kill you, so control your jumps as best you
can. Go to the right and kill some of the red fish-like robots. When you come
across the huge fish (which is the source of the smaller ones), shoot the
antenna-like thing on it's head to kill it. Continue to your right.

Now you're attacked by several robots that float down from the top of the water
and then swirl around in pursuit of Mega Man. Kill them if you can and keep
moving to the right. Carefully jump down the ditch you come to that is lined
with spikes on both sides. Make sure not to touch them. Continue to your right
and you'll run into more small red fish and another big red fish, Shoot the big
red fish in the antenna again and move to your right. Carefully jump up the
steep steps and go to the next screen.

Kill the frog and his little frogs and move again to the right. Jump up to the
surface again. Now you're back at a waterfall. Watch out for the crabs that
fall from the sky. Let the ones in front of you fall before you jump, then
shoot them and move on. When you get to Bubble Man's lair, go in.

-Bubble Man Strategy-

Bubble Man's lair has spikes covering the ceiling so be careful about where
you're jumping equip the Metal Blades and smack him into oblivion, or you can
use the Mega Buster. He's toast either way. =) When you're done, you'll get the
Bubble Lead! Go to the final Robot Master, Heat Man.

-=HEAT MAN=- (8th out of 8)

Heat Man's board isn't too hard, especially with Item-2 in hand. You'll see
what I mean in a minute.

You start the stage out surrounded by many a lava pit and a lot of those green
helicopter robots we saw back on Crash Man's stage. Just destroy them as you go
and jump the lava pits, heading towards the right. Now it gets kind of
complicated. Those floating gray robots are back and they try to hit you into
the lava as you jump from platform-tower to platform-tower. Kill them as you
jump, and go as fast as you can without getting sloppy with the controls. You
don't want to die, after all!

When you get past all of the tower and block jumping, you're back on solid
ground! Hurray! Continue to your right. Avoid those blue things that are
crawling on the floor the best you can and jump down to the ladder and climb
down it. Here you have to do the disappearing/appearing block thing. It's not
nearly as hard as it was in Mega Man I though, as it only involves four blocks,
and it's quite simple to figure out. When you get to the top of the screen,
take the ladder all the way down.

This part can be frustrating. You have to jump the towers by using the
appearing/disappearing blocks while fighting off the gray floating robots and
avoid falling into ditches and lava! How fun! Anyway, equip the Metal Blade so
you can take care of the gray floating robots with ease and make your way
slowly and carefully to the right. (use Crash Bombs to get thorough the
temporary walls if it makes things easier for you.)

Now this part seems hard, but it's actually a piece of cake. Instead of
bothering with the endless array of appearing/disappearing blocks, go to the
edge of the land where it meets the lava and equip Item-2. Just use it to go
all the way across the lava to safety! Go ahead, do it! When you get to the
end, go down the ladder. Fight the AT-ST robot and kill the pilot, and go down
the ladder on the lefthand side. Enter Heat Man's lair.

-Heat Man Strategy-

Heat Man is simple with the Bubble Lead, but you still have to be careful to
not get hit too many times. Equip the Bubble Lead and attack him. Everytime he
gets hit he turns into a fireball and shoots across the room at you. Dodge and
repeat until he's dead! When he's dead you get Atomic Fire and Item-1! That's
the last of the Robot Masters; time to go to Wily's Castle!

                                                   Item-1, Item-2, & Item-3.
                               That's everything!!!!

Now to Wily's Castle... (please note: There will be no more passwords from here
on out. You can't start from any board in Wily's stage, you must start from the
beginning, so keep that in mind.)

-=WILY STAGE ONE=-

This first part of the stage is sort of short, but can be a challenge. Move to
your right. Kill the birds as you go and shoot their eggs before they hit the
ground. When you get to a gray building with a Dr. Wily insignia on it, equip
Item-3 and use it to get up and over the gray building. Then, equip the Metal
Blades and shoot the boomerang shooters when you get back onto the ground. Kill
them all and continue right. You'll get to another of the gray buildings. Equip
Item-3 again and repeat the process. When you get back onto the ground this
time, there will be one more boomerang shooter to contend with and then you can
move farther right.

Now, as you get to the right-most wall, equip Item-3, and scale the wall. Stop
off at the platform before the ladder to get the Extra guy, then go right and
up the ladder. Ignore the ladder next to the one you just came up and climb up
the next ladder. Kill the AT-ST pilot guy, get the weapon energy pellet (refill
Item-3), and go up the ladder to continue on. In this next area there is
another pilot to kill. Do so and climb the ladder he was guarding.

Avoid the floor crawler and climb the ladder on the right. When you get to the
top of the ladder, equip Item-1. Make yourself three steps so tou can get to
the ladderon the upper lefthand side. When you this, go up the ladder. Equip
the Mega Buster and kill the floaters that bother you while you're on the
ladder. Keep climbing. When you get to the top, equip the Quick Boomerangs, go
to the right, jumping the blocks (do it quickly), and watch out behind you as
the boss of this level, the Dragon, comes from behind and starts chasing you...

-Dragon Strategy-

The Dragon is simple, it's just hard to keep your footing. Avoid his fireballs
and keep striking him with Quick Boomerangs. Stand on the topmost block, that
way if he hits you, when you fall back you'll land on the blcok below, and you
can jump right back up. Before you know it, he'll be toast and you can move on
to the next level.

-=WILY STAGE TWO=-

Right at the beginning of this stage, there is a weapon-energy pellet. Refill
Item-1 with it and move to your right. Kill the green helicopter robots that
come from the sky, and when you run into another weapon-energy pellet, use it
on anything you need to. Equip Item-2. Go across the spikes, skipping the first
ladder and waiting for the second ladder. (the shorter one.) Jump at the right
time and climb the ladder. Get the E-Tank and take the ladder down. Get the
extra life and refill your weapons with the small weapon-energy pellets. Go
down the next ladder. Equip the Crash Bombs and take out the two walls to get
another extra life and an E-Tank.

Down the ladder, bear to your right as you fall, so you don't land on the
spikes to either side of the room. Go down the ditch, and go right down the
narrow path. Kill the corn-like robots (remember them from Metal Man's stage?),
and then avoid the spike mechanism (also from Metal Man's stage) and continue
to your right. Equip Item-3 and use it to grapple up the wall. Go right and
avoid some more of the spike mechanisms. When you get to the edge, go down the
ladder. Watch your footing on the blcoks, avoiding the spikes, and continue
down. Use Item-1 to get the energy pellet on the other side of the room and go
down the next ditch.

-Robot Machine Strategy-

This guy is fairly simple. Two blocks come off of various parts of the four
sides of the square you're in and form a robot that comes at you. The more you
kill the faster it gets. Equip the Bubble Lead and take care of them quickly...
time for stage three!

-=WILY STAGE THREE=-

You start of this stage on a small platform. Jump down to your left or right.
Use Crash Bombs to get the E-Tank and the weapon-energy pellet. Go down the
next hole. Kill the crab robot and get the weapon-energy pellets. Go down some
more. You're now in some filth-ridden water. Since you have a good height when
you jump when you're in the water, don't worry about falling in the spikes. Use
the high jumping to your advantage. There are two holes near the end of this
part, both of which have hige metal robot fish come out of them, and if you're
not quick enough, they'll grab you and knock you down, so be careful about
them. When you get done with that part, go down the narrow path with spikes on
the ceiling. (be careful here).

Now, this part can be a tad bit difficult if you're not careful. You must
manuver down a path that have spikes on both ends of the walls. Just hug the
left wall all the way down and you'll be okay. When you through with that part,
you'll be on two platforms that have spikes as well. Carefully walk these and
jump down the ditch. (hug the right wall when you jump, so you can avoid the
spikes on the bottom.) Jump out of the water and equip the Metal Blade. Shoot
the pink robot diagnolly from the top of the platform, so he won't hit you.
Move to your right. Kill the next you you come across as well and enter the
lair to fight the boss.

-GutsDozer Strategy-

This guy is massive, but he's still a sinch to beat. Equip the Quick Boomerangs
and jump on the front of the Dozer. Fire at the dot on his head until he's
toast.

-=WILY STAGE FOUR=-

At your left and your right are two weapon-energy pellets. Refill and weapons
and/or Items you need to and climb the ladder. Kill the HardHat and go up the
ladder he was protecting. Don't bother with the HardHat here, go up to the
ladder, AND DO NOT GO TO THE LADDER ON THE LEFT. You'll fall through a fake
floor right into the HardHat if you do. Go up the other ladder instead. Now go
to your left and fall through the fake floor, hugging the left wall. Go left
and take the ladder I told you not to before. Get the extra life. Go back up
the ladder two screens.

Fall down the same hole but this time hug the right wall. Go up the same ladder
and go right up the next ladder. Jump from the ladder to the middle of the
platform, move to your left a bit, and jump again to the ladder. (to avoid the
two false floor blocks here, you must do this.) Here you'll notice that you
have to cross a plank that surely has false floors, but there are spikes under
the floor this time. Simply equip Item-2 and take it across the platform to the
next ladder. Climb up.

Kill the HardHats and figure out where all of the false floors are on this
screen. Go to the middle platform to where the false floor is on the top
platform. (you'll notice where it is because you won't be able to hit your head
on the false floor.) Equip Item-1 and get the E-Tank if you need it, and go up
the ladder on the upper lefthand corner. Go right down the long path and take
the ladder on the other end.

Equip the Metal Blades and do the elaborate sets of platform mechanisms (found
also on Crash Man's stage). Use the Metal Blade's eight direction firing
capabilities to take care of the gray enemies in each area.  When you get
through all four mechanisms, jump down and fight the several AT-ST robots and
their pilots as well. Heal up Mega Man and enter the boss lair.

-"The Wall" Strategy-

The only weapon that works here is the Crash Bombs. You must conserve them, as
you only have seven or eight shots with them. Only shoot the walls you have to
shoot and concentrate on the guns. If you die, the walls you dud destroy will
be gone for good. (unless you lose all of your lives and are forced to
continue.)

-=WILY STAGE FIVE=-

This isn't a stage, but rather a multi-teleporter. Each teleport leads to a
different Robot Master, and you have to fight each one again. Below is a
diagram of the room, which Robot Master is in each one, and the weapon to use
against the Robot Master.

* No, this isn't a joke. Metal Man's weakness is actually his own weapon! One
hit with it and he dies!!!!

When you are done beating the eight Robot Masters for the eighth and final
time, go to the teleporter that appears in the middle of the room. It's Wily
time!

-Wily I Strategy-

The first form of Dr. Wily is simple. Charge the Atomic Fire all the way to its
max (by pressing and holding down the B button.) Fire it at the front of his
ship to knock off part of it...

-Wily II Strategy-

Equip the Metal Blades and barrage the front of his ship with them; just keep
firing! He'll escape though...

-=WILY STAGE SIX=-

This is it. There are no enemies on this short stage, but the drops of acid
that come from the ceiling take away a lot of energy, so be careful of those as
you move through the level. Enter the lair...

-Wily III [Alien Wily] Strategy-

Ahhh, an alien!!!! Equip the Bubble Lead and fire away at this guy. He moves
around the room in strange patterns, and be careful not to get near and run
into the alien, as he is a damaging little bugger! Fire and kill him, and you
win!!!!

Congratulations, you've beaten Mega Man II! Enjoy the ending!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
* SECTION VI: ENDING*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

*****SPOILERS - ENDING INFORMATION AHEAD*****

*****************IF YOU DON'T WANT INFORMATION ON THE ENDING OF THE GAME OR HAVE
YET TO BEAT THE GAME, DO NOT READ PAST THIS POINT!********************

The ending of the game is unique, and far better than the ending found in the
predeccessor, the original Mega Man. After defeating the Alien final boss, you find
out that the Alien was actually a machine created by Dr. Wily, and that it was
being controlled from a solitary section of his lab by Wily himself. Wily jumps
from his safe area, and begs Mega Man's forgiveness.

Following this, the credits roll and you see Mega Man walking through the different
seasons, fall, winter, summer, and spring. As he does this, the scenery and all
change, and then the scene changes again and Mega Man's helmet sits atop a hill by
itself, left behind by Mega Man en route to going back to Dr. Light and Roll at
home.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* SECTION VII: ITEMS*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

There aren't many items in this game, but here they are!

- Energy Pellet (white): Restores energy to Mega Man's health meter.
Big ones restore a lot of energy, little ones restore a little bit of
energy.
- Energy Pellet (blue): Restores energy to Mega Man's weapons. Big ones
restore a lot of energy, little ones restore a little bit of energy.
- E-Tank: You can carry as many as four of these in your inventory. These blue
paintcan-looking items can be stored and used to re-fill your energy meter to
maximum at any time during the game. Especially useful in Dr. Wily's various
stages.
- Extra Life- Shaped like Mega Man's head. Pick it up to receive and extra
life!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* SECTION VIII: WEAPONS AND "ITEMS"*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

- Mega Buster: The main weapon in the game, and Mega Man's default weapon. You
start the game with this weapon.
- Metal Blade: Obtained from defeating Metal Man. The most useful and versatile
weapon in the game.
- Time Stopper: Obtained from defeating Flash Man. This isn't really a weapon
of sorts, but it freezes time, and is especially useful on Quick Man's stage
and against Quick Man himself.
- Quick Boomerang: Obtained from defeating Quick Man. Not a very useful weapon,
but it shoots boomerangs in a circle right in front of Mega Man, and is most
useful against the Dragon on Dr. Wily's first stage. (in his castle)
- Leaf Shield: Obtained from defeating Wood Man. A shield made of leafs that
protects Mega Man from harm. Not a very good weapon (except against Air Man),
but used more as a protection device.
- Air Shooter: Obtained from defeating Air Man. A difficult weapon to use
because of it's tendency to float upwards, it's used primarily to defeat Crash
Man, and air enemies.
- Crash Bombs: Obtained from defeating Crash Man. These useful bombs destroy
walls that have items and other useful things behind them. Damages some Robot
Masters, and is the only weapon that can initially damage the "Wall Boss" in
Dr. Wily's castle.
- Bubble Lead: Obtained from defeating Bubble Man. A fairly useless weapon, the
Bubble Lead travels slowly across the floor and pops after a while. A good
weapon to use against the difficult-to-defeat Heat Man, and that's about it.
- Atomic Fire: Obtained from defeating Heat Man. A weapon that can be charged
up, this weapon can be devestating if used under the right circumstances. Can
critically damage many Robot Masters and enemies when charged. Uses a lot of
weapon-energy, however.

- Item 1: Makes little helicopter-like platforms that temporarily stay in the
air and aid Mega Man from jumping from one place to another.
- Item 2: Similar to the Rush Jet found in later Mega Man games, it brings you
from one place to another easily.
- Item 3: A wall-climber of sorts, you can take this up any wall to a hard to
reach platform, etc.

* SECTION IX: DAMAGE CHART*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Before we go onto the damage charts, there are two things I must explain. First
of all, I'll explain how I got these figures, and then I'll explain how to read
the chart.

How these figures were obtained:

These numbers and whatnot on the chart were obtained via careful calculation. I
simply fought every Robot Master with every weapon, including him own. I then
saw how many hits with each weapon it took to kill that Robot Master, and put
the figures on the chart. A -- symbolizes that the Robot Master is immune to
that weapon and that it doesn't effect him in any way.

To read the chart:

Simply line up the name of the robot master on the left side with the robot
master weapon you want to beat him with on the top. There is a key below to
read the symbols.

(An HTML version of this Damage Chart can be found on protoman.com.)

Key to the Charts:

MM = Mega Man
BM = Bubble Man
FM = Flash Man
QM = Quick Man
MM² = Metal Man
CM = Crash Man
AM = Air Man
WM = Wood Man
HM = Heat Man

---About the Author--- [as of May 23, 2001]

Well... as of the time I'm writing this, I'm about to finish up the 11th grade. I
live on Long Island, in New York, about half an hour from New York City. I play ice
hockey, I work at a deli, and I love videogames, especially RPGs. My favorite
series for videogames include the Final Fantasy series (excluding VIII), the Dragon
Warrior/Quest series, the Mega Man series, and the Tales series. I aspire to go to
Northeastern University in the fall of 2002 to study History and Archaeology.
