each of my Mega Man boss FAQs, posting that they are now "Final" versions, in
addition to the "Only" version I denoted them to be earlier. This is to stop
any e-mails I'm getting with "add this strat, d00d11!!!!" You, as readers, are

Welcome, readers, friends, et cetera, to my Boss FAQ for the classic NES game,
Mega Man 2, on the NES Nintendo Entertainment System.

I don't have much to say here except that this FAQ is meant to be used in
direct conjunction with my FAQ/Walkthrough, already on GameFAQs, which can be
found at the following URL:

Of course, you don't HAVE to use it in conjunction. The primary point of this
FAQ on the bosses in the game, in fact, is to simplify the information out of
my more intricate FAQ/Walkthrough for the game, so if you don't need step-by-
step instructions on beating the game as a whole, but only on the primary
problems people encounter in the game - the bosses - then this FAQ is for you.
There ARE pretty good instructions in my FAQ/Walkthrough for this game as far
as all of the boss battles are concerned, but again, this is for
simplification, so I hope it helps you out. Enjoy!

This section is to assist you on your battles with the Robot Masters in the
game. Included are descriptions of each Robot Master, as well as their battle
tactics, their weapon information, et cetera - everything you need to know
about to defeat them! I hope it helps!

METAL MAN
¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Metal Blades
Primary Weakness: Metal Blade (yeah, that's right)
Other Weaknesses: Mega Buster (is what you SHOULD use on him), Quick Boomerangs
Description: Metal Man, who almost looks like an oldschool doctor with his
sprite when you fight him (the blade on his head looks like that silver thing
old-school doctors used to wear, you know what I'm saying), is actually a cool
Robot Master simply because he won't attack you unless you attack first, or if
you get too close to him. If you stay away from him and don't attack, he'll
just stand there. The minute you start attacking, or get too close, he'll start
chucking his Metal Blades at you in full effect, but he'll stop if you stop. =)

To Defeat Metal Man...

Metal Man is the first Robot Master you should take on in Mega Man 2, and for
good cause - his weapon, the Metal Blade, is the most versatile weapon found in
the game, by far. When you enter into Metal Man's lair, you'll notice that it's
based upon a moving floor that Metal Man can change at will, making the battle
a little bit more interesting. Other than that, Metal Man is a pacifist - as I
stated earlier, he won't attack until you attack or get too close, and even
after you fire at him, he'll fire at you and stop when you do. He's interesting
like that. He basically jumps up and down and throws Metal Blades at his foe,
and he has pretty good accuracy at that. He can also jump the entire distance
of his lair and get to safety on the other side if you get too close, doing the
same attack pattern from the other side. To defeat him, simply jump up and down
with him and pummel him with some regular old conventional arm cannon fodder,
avoiding his Metal Blades if you can as they fly at you. He'll die easily, you
shall see! And is the Metal Blade truly his ultimate weakness? Why yes, it is.
When you refight him in Dr. Wily's castle later in the game, one hit with his
own weapon and he's DONE.

FLASH MAN
¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Time Stopper
Primary Weakness: Metal Blade
Other Weaknesses: Atomic Fire, Crash Bombs, Bubble Lead
Description: Flash Man is a "flashy" blue robot that looks kind of sort of
similar to Mega Man in colorization and look. Flash Man's got that smug look on
his face, and it's for a reason; he's the weakest robot master in the game. =)
He's the first in the Mega Man series to use the infamous freeze time weapon,
and he uses it with skill simply because the layout of his lair is whacked out
beyond belief.

To Defeat Flash Man...

Flash Man is completely and utterly beatable before Metal Man with the regular
arm cannon, and many people choose to get him out of the way first, but not me.
He's even weaker to the Metal Blades than he is to the arm cannon, so I choose
to take him on second. Flash Man's stage is set up in an odd way, which makes
him more formidable then if he were to have a flat lair... he has platforms
forming in the middle and sides of his room which Flash Man can jump over, on,
et cetera with great skill, randomly freezing time with his Time Stopper, which
stops Mega Man in his place. From there, Flash Man fires many a plasma shot
from his arm cannon, and when Mega Man gets hit, the Time Stopper wears off (if
Flash Man misses every shot with his arm cannon, Mega Man is automatically
freed from the grip of the Time Stopper). To defeat Flash Man, simply equip the
Metal Blades you won over from Metal Man and pummel the poor bastard. Of
course, Atomic Fire, Crash Bombs, and even Bubble Lead work extremly well
against this robot master, pending you have any of those items at this point in
the game, which, if you are following the order I give you, you shouldn’t.

QUICK MAN
¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Quick Boomerangs
Primary Weakness: Flash Stopper
Other Weaknesses: Atomic Fire, Air Shooter, Crash Bombs
Description: My personal favorite Robot Master in the Mega Man series, Quick
Man's name pretty much says it all - this robot is QUICK. Although I don't
quite see where his boomerang comes into the scheme of quickness, he chucks
those things around with great skill, as he should. Similar to Flash Man, Quick
Man's lair layout makes him harder than he should be. But if you know a few
tricks, this boomerang weilding friend of mine will surely fall to you...
quickly. Excuse the pun.

To Defeat Quick Man...

The Time Stopper you won from Flash Man was certainly used by you just getting
through Quick Man's hectic stage safely, I'm sure. So before you enter Quick
Man's lair, make sure that the Time Stopper's energy is completely full. Then,
upon entering battle, use the Time Stopper right away on Quick Man. It'll
freeze him and take away half of his energy right from the get-go, which is
pretty nifty if I do say so myself. Then, from there, equip the old arm cannon
and take out the rest of Quick Man's energy. Keep moving along his weird lair,
because Quick Man can corner you and take away massive energy by simply keep
chucking the ole Quick Boomerangs at you. He can also jump high and run fast,
so simply running into him is a big hazard to your health. You might need to
use an E-Tank, but taking away half of his energy right at the beginning of the
battle is a huge advantage you have over him, regardless.

WOOD MAN
¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Leaf Shield
Primary Weakness: Metal Blade
Other Weaknesses: Atomic Fire, Crash Bombs, Air Shooter
Description: Wood Man's name can be taken the wrong way, but don't take this
Robot Master too lightly. He uses the cliché shield weapon in this game, as do
many robot masters after him, but he has an advantage that the others don't...
that's not his only weapon. He can also summon down from above razor-sharp
leaves upon his foe, and his big size makes both he and his Leaf Shield nearly
unjumpable.

To Defeat Wood Man...

You can actually have a lot of fun with Wood Man because he can be destroyed in
so many different ways that you should truly take the time to try them all out.
The way I and most people like to do it (and the way you'll have to do it if
you're following my order in which to beat the bosses), is to use the Metal
Blades. Wood Man summons up his Leaf Shield, which makes him invulnerable to
all enemy attacks. He then rains down four leaves from the sky, which swoop all
over the place upon the foe. Avoid those, and then watch at he tosses his Leaf
Shield at you. Quickly jump over it, and then take this moment to fire some
Metal Blades at him. If you're quick enough, you can kill him before he has a
time to repeat his pattern. If not, be patient and wait for him to go through
the pattern again before chucking more Metal Blades at him. So what are the
other ways to kill him? Well... using Crash Bombs, you can stick Crash Bombs to
the wall behind him, or even to his Leaf Shield when it's around his body, and
time them so that they explode when he's about to throw his shield, or doesn't
have his shield on at all. That's an interesting way. However, for a one hit
kill, take the Atomic Fire and charge it up all the way. After you jump over
the hurtling Leaf Shield that Wood Man throws at you, fire the fully charged
Atomic Fire at him which will kill him in one foul blow. Pretty cool, eh?

AIR MAN
¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Air Shooter
Primary Weakness: Leaf Shield
Other Weaknesses: Atomic Fire, Quick Boomerangs
Description: Air Man, a robot with a big fan built into his chest cavity, has
the power to control mini-tornadoes, which can be a real menace, and are almost
inavoidable, because he tosses 'em at you so strategically. You'll have to get
in close to kill this robot master, because his tornadoes also block enemy
attacks, making him invulnerable to attacks from afar.

To Defeat Air Man...

Air Man's primary weakness is the Leaf Shield, and naturally, to use the Leaf
Shield, you have to either throw it or walk into an enemy with it. Being that
Air Man shoots tornadoes out of his arm cannon, and then shoots them at you
with his chest fan, and that these tornadoes block attacks, shooting at him
with the Leaf Shield is impossible. Even when he's just fired an attack, by the
time you get the Leaf Shield up and then fired at him, he'll have enough time
to get more tornadoes up to block your attacks and do further damage to you. So
you'll have to substain some damage in this fight to move in close. Once you
get close to him, he'll jump away, but if you have the Leaf Shield ready,
activate it when you get close to him to hit him once or twice, and possibly
kill him from the getgo of the battle. Keep in mind that when he blows his
tornadoes away from him and at you, that the wind from his chest fan also blows
you back, so as you avoid the tornadoes, you gotta keep moving forward...
that's why he's so tough to some!

CRASH MAN
¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Crash Bombs
Primary Weakness: Air Shooter
Other Weaknesses: None
Description: Crash Man is a formidable foe, unless you are equipped with the
proper weapon, the Air Shooter, from Air Man. Crash Man wildly jumps around his
lair, planting his Crash Bombs on walls and floors, waiting for them to
explode. His endless array of explosive devices makes any battle with him
explosive, but taking him out with one shot via the Air Shooter cools him off a
bit. If you don't the Air Shooter, though, be ready for a fight.

To Defeat Crash Man...

Crash Man is indeed formidable, but not if you have the Air Shooter, just like
I mentioned above. Crash Man jets around his room, running, walking, and
jumping, while using his dual arm cannons equipped with Crash Bombs fire all
over the walls and ceilings in his lair. His Crash Bombs stick to walls and
ceilings, and explode soon after, causing a small blast radius around where the
bomb was planted. Crash Man is easily defeated with two or three shots from the
Air Shooter (depending on how directly you hit him), and you can beat him with
it without him even getting any shots of the Crash Bombs off. However, if you
fail to enter the battle with the Air Shooter, he has no other real weaknesses,
so you'll have to use the arm cannon on him. Have a few E-Tanks on you if it
comes to that, though, because he can be a real pain, and impossible for
newbies, otherwise.

BUBBLE MAN
¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Bubble Lead
Primary Weakness: Metal Blades
Other Weaknesses: Crash Bombs, Quick Boomerangs
Description: Bubble Man is the first underwater Robot Master in the Mega Man
series, and certainly not the last. Out of all of the Robot Masters in the
game, Bubble Man has the most attacks at his advantage (that'd be two), but
that doesn't really mean he uses them with that great of skill. His arm cannon
can shoot harpoon-like shots at his foes, while the device built into his
helmet and goggles shoots lethal bubbles made of lead, or the Bubble Lead.
Metal Blades can take care of him easily, however.

To Defeat Bubble Man...

Bubble Man's lair is underwater, and the ceiling is lined with deadly spikes,
like most of his stage was, which is a bad combonation, as most of you should
know. You must control your jumps (or avoid jumping, period) while in his lair
or you can easily fly straight into the spikes above. Bubble Man starts all
battles by shooting a few Bubble Leads at his foe, and then jumping up and
firing harpoon shots at his foe while floating down, and then repeating the
process. While he's weak to Crash Bombs and Quick Boomerangs, the Metal Blades
are his primary weakness, and can kill him in a matter of a few hits. Simply
stand in one place and use the Metal Blades from there (remember you can shoot
them up and down, as well, in case it gets to that), and avoid his bubbles and
harpoon shots the best you can. If you have none of the weapons above that he's
weak to, the arm cannon works well enough on him as well. Just be persistant
and parry his shots, and you should be just fine.

HEAT MAN
¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯
Weapon: Atomic Fire
Primary Weakness: Bubble Lead
Other Weaknesses: Quick Boomerangs, Air Shooter
Description: The final Robot Master on our journey (if you're following my
order, of course), is Heat Man, the zippo lighter look-alike. Heat Man can be a
toughie if you don't have the Bubble Lead, so you'll almost always want to make
sure you enter his lair with Bubble Man defeated, unless you are one of the
upper echelon Mega Man players. Heat Man's atomic fire is shot out from his
body, and covers the floor with fire towers. In addition, whenever he is hit
with any weapon, he turns into a fireball and literally jets across the room,
incinerating everything in his path.

To Defeat Heat Man...

Heat Man is a toughie, like I explained above. His battle style is consistant,
and he's fast. He'll keep Mega Man away from him by constantly shooting Atomic
Fire at him, and hitting him once with any weapon will instantly send him into
a frenzy in which he turns his entire body into fire and fires himself across
the screen to the other side of his lair. Equip the Bubble Lead upon entering
the battle, and fire it at him. He'll get hit, and turn into a fireball, but
you'll notice that it significantly cuts his energy. Simply repeat this process
a few more times on him to turn him into nothing. Then you'll get the Atomic
Fire, which is the first chargable boss weapon in the Mega Man game, and,
pending you are following the order I suggest to beat the Robot Masters in,
will be allowed to gain entrance to Dr. Wily's castle.

This other primary section of this FAQ is to assist you in the battles with the
stronger bosses found in the game, that aren't Robot Masters, but are found in
your journey through Dr. Wily's castle! Again, I hope it helps!

DRAGON
¯¯¯¯¯¯
Weapon: Fire Breath
Primary Weakness: Quick Boomerangs
Other Weaknesses: Crash Bombs, Atomic Fire
Description: The first (and coolest) boss character in Dr. Wily's castle is the
Dragon, a large, robotic dragon that shoots fire from his mouth. It's not that
he's particularly difficult by himself - it's where you fight him that makes
him hard. You have to fight him over a huge pit, with only three blocks you can
stand on, each one Mega Man in width.

To Defeat Dragon...

The Battle with Dragon actually starts at the end of the stage, where you're
jumping in an empty room, left to right, from small block to small block, when
all of a sudden, a robot Dragon starts chasing you, in which you need to keep
going to avoid him. Press Star quickly to equip your Quick Boomerangs, but
don't fire at him yet, wait until you get to the end of this jumping session,
where three blocks are lined up, one on top of the other, and his energy meter
comes up. He starts shooting fire at you, and it's hard to avoid. Position Mega
Man on the topmost block, as close to the left of the block you can get without
falling off, so that if a fireball hits him, he won't get knocked clear to his
death. Instead, if you DO get knocked off of this block, you'll land on the
middle block behind you, and can go back to the top block if you choose. Then,
simply start pegging his head with a barrage of Quick Boomerangs, and he'll
fall quickly to this barrage, I guarantee you. You can't really avoid his fire
breath attacks, but you certainly can kill him quickly.

WALL ROBOT

Weapon: Wall Units
Primary Weakness: Bubble Lead
Other Weaknesses: Metal Blades, Atomic Fire, Quick Boomerangs
Description: A unique boss enemy, you fight the Wall Robot in a room that
seemingly has no boss in it at first. A Mechanism inside the wall makes two
blocks from the wall meet up in the middle of the room to form a smaller, red
robot, that goes at the foe with ferocity. The more of these you kill, the
faster they get, and if you give them enough time, they can shoot plasma shots
at you, making your day that much more difficult.

To Defeat Wall Robot...

From the getgo, have the Bubble Lead equipped. When the first unit is created
from pieces of the wall, jump at it and unleash a shot of Bubble Lead. It'll
kill a unit in one hit, giving you the easiest time out of any weapon in your
aresenal. Keep in mind that the units are invulnerable to any weapon before
they create themselves and start moving, so shooting any weapon at them,
including the Bubble Lead, before they start moving, is useless, since it'll
simply deflect off of them. As you kill the units they start coming out quicker
and moving faster, so stay on top of their position at all times. Also, make
sure to avoid whatever blocks that are moving towards you in the creation of
the various units, so that you don't get damaged even further before the units
are unleashed upon you.

GUTSDOZER

Weapon: Plasma Shots
Primary Weakness: Quick Boomerangs
Other Weaknesses: Crash Bombs, Bubble Lead
Description: The Gutsdozer, a huge, tank-like version of the already big Robot
Master from the original Mega Man game, Guts Man, is an easy Robot Master to
defeat, because you can actually ride on the front of his tank like structure
and fire away at him with whatever weapon you choose to use. I, of course,
recommend the Quick Boomerang for ease of his defeat, but you can naturally use
whatever you want against him.

To Defeat Gutsdozer...

First and foremost, don't let the size of the Gutsdozer scare you away - he is
very, very simple to defeat indeed. Approach him and jump onto the hull of his
tank-like body, and jump and fire those Quick Boomerangs at him, and he'll die
in no time. It's really that simple. His one weapon is a plasma shot, which you
can avoid simply by jumping over, or walking to and fro him to avoid. He could
run you over... but you're on top of him so that wouldn't really work, now
would it. =) Sorry, it doesn't get any more in-depth than this. It seems
simple, but try what I say and you'll see that he isn't challenging with the
Quick Boomerangs firing at his head at all, now is he? =)

WALL SHOOTERS
¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Weapon: Power Shots
Primary Weakness: Crash Bombs
Other Weaknesses: None
Description: Another pretty unique (and nearly bizarre Wily invention), the
Wall Shooters are devices in a room set at certain places that fire power shots
at the foe with amazing speed and accuracy. Since there are five of them in the
room, and they are only vulnerable to the Crash Bombs, and nothing else, you
have to conserve at least five of them. But... there are several barriers in
the room that can also only be destroyed by Crash Bombs... how're you gonna get
around THAT one?

To Defeat Wall Shooters...

The Wall Shooters are stationed at five different places around the room. Some
are guarded by barriers, others aren't. And you'll need to use various Items (1
and 3, only) to get to some of the areas where you'll need to do some
demolition work with the Crash Bombs. The barriers are your main targets... so
make sure that you have more than one life left - that is; make sure that you
aren't on your final life. Your first run through the boss fight should be to
destroy all of the barriers in the room, because once they are destroyed, they
don't come back when you die (unless you're starting over from a continue).
Then, get killed on purpose since you don't have the proper amount of Crash
Bombs to destroy the Wall Shooters. Kill enemies outside of the boss room on
your second approach to get energy pellets to refill your Crash Bombs, and then
re-enter the now barrier-free boss room, and feast upon the Wall Shooters,
using an E-Tank if need be, although you should be alright without any. If you
can't reach certain modules, simply use Item 1 and/or 3 to approach them
without any trouble.

DR. WILY
¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯
Weapon: UFO
Primary Weakness: Metal Blades
Other Weaknesses: Crash Bombs
Description: This "final boss" has two forms, both of which, like the previous
Mega Man game, are airborne UFOs. While the major weakness of this enemy is
Crash Bombs, you probably will have little, to any left. So fire what you have
of those at it, but concentrate your attacks on the middle of the UFO in both
forms with the Metal Blades, which I'm sure you still have in great abundance.

To Defeat Dr. Wily...

The first and second forms of Dr. Wily are basically similar. No new battle
plans are needed from the second to the first, or vice-versa. Unleash whatever
Crash Bombs you have left in your inventory on the hull of the UFO, and then
equip the Metal Blades. Fire away at the UFO's hull with these until it pops
off, revealing another form of the UFO, which can shoot huge bouncing plasma
shots as opposed to the regular plasma shots the original form shot at you.
Keep on firing those Metal Blades while avoiding the strong fire coming from
the UFO (it does major damage, but not as major as what's to come), and it'll
eventually destroy itself. Then the UFO will fly away. One more battle left, my
friends...

ALIEN HOLOGRAPH

Weapon: Plasma Shots
Primary Weakness: Bubble Lead
Other Weaknesses: None
Description: Not to spoil anything for people who have yet to beat the game,
but this enemy doesn't even really exist. It's a holograph created by Dr. Wily
in the form of a strong alien creature that can move in the air all around the
lair. He is SUPER strong on either difficulty setting, and can wipe out Mega
Man in no time if you aren't careful. Equip the Bubble Lead, the creature's
only weakness, and lets begin this fight.

To Defeat Alien Holograph...

The Alien Holograph is hard to defeat without getting hit, and is just as hard
to defeat, basically, without any E-Tanks at your disposal, so upon entering
the battle with this creature, make sure to at least have one, preferably two
or more E-Tanks. Equip the Bubble Lead, since that's the only thing this guy is
weak to, and lets get to work. Upon entering the battle, Wily (is it really
him?) jumps in the air and turns into an Alien. The Alien's battle tactics is
simply floating around the room, shooting fast-shot plasma shots at you. To
combat him, jump at him and unleash a Bubble Lead, then take cover away from
him, avoiding the plasma shots he shoots at you until the next come around,
when he's in range for you again. He has a predictable pattern, but it's not
SET, so it's not like he goes in circles - his path is random, but he only does
that, and nothing more. When you defeat him (don't be afraid to use E-Tanks,
it's your last battle), the game is defeated, so enjoy the ending, and
congratulations!

about half an hour from New York City. I play ice hockey, I work at a deli, and
I love videogames, especially RPGs. My favorite series for videogames include
