VI. WALKTHROUGH
=============================================================================
This walkthrough will guide you through the entire game. I assume that you
know to attack all your enemies. The game randomizes the items that appear
when you shoot at things. Therefore, it is impossible to have one
walkthrough that will cover every possibility. Instead, I have listed the
areas in each round where you can shoot to make an item appear. Each round
has a set number of symbols of harmony (yin-yang) that are always visible. I
have listed the number that appear for each round. As always, feel free to
deviate from my strategies. Use as much/little as you need.
Two-player game is played exactly like the one-player game except that the
screen will not proceed further without both players moving.
Round 1
=======
Yin-yang: 4 visible
Things to blast: green urns, purple vases, treeholes
Enemies: caterpillars, cobras, flying devils, spiders
Ok, it's time to figure out the controls now. Unlike other games, there is
NO JUMP BUTTON! To jump, you must press UP. That will take some getting
used to. There's only two other moves to learn and they are block (B button)
and attack (A button). Now once you've become accustomed to the controls,
you'll be ready for action.
There's a cobra on the ground. Kill it first. Now turn left and shoot the
hole in the tree. Jump up and shoot the hole above. Then jump on the
platform above. Jump again and get the yin-yang on the tree branch. Shoot
the hole to the left. Now shoot and kill the spiders that are hanging.
You'll need to stand on the far right edge in order to hit the spider on the
far right side. Drop down on the platform and go right. Kill or avoid the
caterpillar. You'll now see a yin-yang on a tree branch. Above it is a
spider that's waiting. Slowly walk up to the yin-yang and stop when you're
just in front of the tree branch. The spider will drop down and miss you.
Now you can safely get the yin-yang. Stay on the tree branch and shoot the
hole to the right. Jump and shoot the one above. Then drop down and shoot
the one at the bottom. Just watch out for the two cobras that are down
there.
Kill the caterpillars on the platform to the right. Then jump up on the
platform. Jump from there to the tree branch above. Stand there and kill
the spider to the right. Shoot the purple vase. Then jump over both vases
and shoot the other one from the right side. Watch out for flying devils.
They are a nuisance and should be avoided. Killing them is not worth the
trouble. Now jump and shoot the spider above you or just let it fall and
miss. Then shoot the green urn. Stand on the vase to the right of the urn
and shoot the other urn to your right. Drop down and shoot the vase that you
were just standing on. Go right and there's another platform with a vase on
it. Lure or kill the spider. Then shoot the vase. Shoot the caterpillars
to the right. Jump over the vase and get the yin-yang to the right. There
are some holes in the tree to the right. Shoot the holes. Then kill the
caterpillar on the platform to the right. Lure the spider away before you
get the yin-yang on the platform. Go right and shoot the vase. Then shoot
the holes in the tree to the right.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the green urns, purple vases, and treeholes until you find
the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've found them all, you'll fight the boss.
Boss 1: Evil Tree
You'll start the fight being temporarily invincible. Don't get cocky and try
to nail the boss now. You can do that later. Instead, jump up on the
platform and stand on the vase. Now jump and kill the spiders. There are
four spiders but you only need to kill the two that are closest to the left
side. Stay on the vase and you'll be safe. Remember that fan block move of
yours (press B button)? Well, that move just happens to block all of the
boss's shots. So stand on the right edge of the vase so that the boss fires
to the right. Now quickly jump over the boss and to the left. Run all the
way to the left side. Turn around quickly and press B rapidly to do your fan
block. You'll deflect all the shots that the boss fires at you.
Now stay on the left side and the boss will walk to the right and start
firing. Then it will jump back at you but only land in front of you. At
this point it will start walking to the right again and repeat this walk-jump
pattern forever. Occasionally, the boss will fire to the left so you should
always be fan blocking when it jumps at you. Now you can easily kill the
boss by shooting it in the back when it walks to the right. You can follow
the boss from behind to get closer but be sure to avoid touching the boss.
Don't forget to return to the left side before the boss jumps back or you'll
get hurt. The boss will die after 20 shots or so. Now shoot the vase and a
key will appear. Grab it to finish the round.
Round 2
=======
Yin-yang: 4 visible
Things to blast: blue yin-yangs, green cauldrons, orange lanterns, statue
heads, torches, treasure chests, yellow cabinet drawers
Enemies: caterpillars, flying red orbs, flying rings
There are caterpillars on the floor that will appear throughout the round.
Be sure to avoid them. With that in mind, there is a flying ring that
appears from the right. Do your best to dodge it. Now jump up on the
platform above you. Jump from there to the green dragon. You can stand on
the flat part of the dragon. Shoot the floating red orb to the right to kill
it. Now shoot the orange lanterns to the left and right. Shoot the blue
yin-yangs too. Use the blue cloud platforms to assist you in reaching them.
Now go right and shoot the treasure chest. Then drop down. Above you to the
right should be a yellow (and green) cabinet drawer. Jump and shoot its left
side. You will need to jump from the platform to the left of the drawer to
get any item that appears. Then go right and shoot the treasure chest there.
To the right is a yin-yang above some flames. Unless you get the amulet of
invulnerability, you will get hurt by the fire. Jump and grab it either way.
Then go right again. There's another yin-yang by the torch above. Get it.
Shoot the flame on the torch to extinguish it. Then shoot the torch itself.
Drop down below. Jump up and shoot the green cauldron above. Jump up once
more and shoot the blue yin-yang next. Then shoot the torch to the right as
well as its flame. Shoot the treasure chest to the right. Jump on the
platform to the right and shoot the blue yin-yang on the right side. You'll
see two statues to the right now. Drop down and jump next to the statues.
Don't touch the fire. Jump and fire at the statues' heads. You'll need to
time your shot here so it hits the statue in the neck area. It's not easy to
time so don't be surprised if you need a few tries. Grab any item that
appears although it means getting burned. Walk under the statues to the
right. Get the yin-yang. Then jump and shoot the treasure chest and blue
yin-yang above.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the blue yin-yangs, green cauldrons, orange lanterns,
statue heads, torches, treasure chests, and yellow cabinet drawers until you
find the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've found them all, you'll fight the
boss.
Boss 2: Evil Spirit Man
You'll start the fight off temporarily invincible again. Use this precious
time to quickly fire at the flames on the platform above to extinguish them.
Then jump on the platform before the invulnerability wears off. Now the boss
will be firing a lot of shots the whole time that you are doing this. There
will be a moment when he stops firing just long enough for you go jump off
the platform and go to the left. Wait for that moment and jump when it
comes. The boss will most likely be able to fire a few shots at you before
you reach the left side. Quickly turn around and block them with your fan.
Then stay on the left side and continue to block the boss's shots.
The boss is more aggressive than the last one but he follows a similar
pattern. He'll start to walk to the right and fire. Then he'll jump back at
you and repeat the walk-jump pattern all over again. So just fire when his
back is turned and block every other time. It may take some time for the
boss to begin the walk-jump pattern so block until he starts the pattern.
Don't get hit or you'll be unable to block shots until you stop flashing.
This can lead to some cheap tactics by the boss which will result in your
death. The boss will go down after about 20 shots or so. Now jump and shoot
the lanterns above you. One of them will have a key. Grab it to finish the
round.
Round 3
=======
Yin-yang: 2 visible
Things to blast: blue yin-yangs, green treasure chests, lanterns, red yin-
yangs, torches
Enemies: caterpillars, green dragon statues
Some caterpillars will start approaching from the right. Ignore them and
jump up to the platform above. Extinguish the flame on the torch with your
shots. Then shoot the lantern to the left. Shoot the lantern to the right
and the flame afterwards. Go right and more caterpillars will be on the
ground. Keep avoiding them. Go right and jump on the platform. Shoot the
lantern there. Shoot the flame out next. Then get the yin-yang. Jump to
the platform to the right. Shoot the lantern above. There's a green dragon
statue to the right. It will fire shots down if you get near it. Jump and
shoot it three times to kill it off. Now drop down.
Go right slowly. You'll see a second dragon statue to the right. Go back to
the left and get on the dragon statue that you killed off before. Fire at
the other dragon statue from here. Drop down and get the yin-yang after you
kill it. Go right. There may be shots fired at you. You won't be able to
block the lighting bolts so dodge them. You can block the other shots with
your fan. Anyway, you should now see a boiling red cauldron. Shoot the red
yin-yang above it. Get any item that appears even though you get hurt.
Shoot the torch to the right. Then shoot the blue yin-yang. Shoot the
treasure chest afterwards. To the right is another boiling cauldron. Shoot
the red yin-yang above it. Get the item (if any) that appears. Now go right
and shoot the treasure chest and blue yin-yang.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the blue yin-yangs, green treasure chests, lanterns, red
yin-yangs, and torches until you find the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've
found them all, you'll fight the boss.
Boss 3: Evil Tree 2
Back by popular demand is the evil tree from round 1. As usual, you start
off invincible. Use this time to shoot the flames on the platform above you.
Jump on the treasure chest. Then wait for the boss to give you an opening
with which to run to the left side. When you finally get the left side, just
stand and block the boss's shots with your fan. Now the boss will do the
same old walk-jump pattern. Hit it in its back and block its shots with the
fan. It will die after 20 or so shots. Jump up and shoot the red yin-yang
above. It will have a key inside. Grab it to finish the round.
Round 4
=======
Yin-yang: 2 visible
Things to blast: lanterns, green cabinets, red cabinets, statues
Enemies: birds, caterpillars, statues
Caterpillars will again be crawling on the floor. Be aware of them as you
proceed. There are two statues above you. Both are firing arrows out. Wait
for the arrows to pass above you before you jump and shoot the statues. Do
this three times to kill off a statue. Shoot the other statue afterwards.
Then shoot the lanterns around the statues. Go right and shoot the green
cabinet. Now scroll the screen slowly to the right until you see a statue.
Stop when you see half if its face. Shoot it now or it will shoot at you
later. Shoot the statue next to it as well. Get any items (if any) that
appear. Shoot the lanterns around the statues afterwards.
Go right and get the yin-yang. Then jump on the platform above and shoot the
lantern to the right. Watch out for birds that will fly out at you very
quickly. Jump out of their way because shooting them is pointless. To the
right are more statues. Shoot them out like you did the others. Go right
and shoot the lantern next to the statue. There's a green platform next to
the lantern. Don't jump on it because there is fire on it. The game will
show nothing there if the statue is also onscreen so be aware that there is
still danger there even if you can't see it. Anyway, go right and jump up to
shoot the red cabinet from its right side. Shoot the red yin-yang to the
right. Then go right and get the yin-yang.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the lanterns, green cabinets, red cabinets, and statues
until you find the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've found them all, you'll
fight the boss.
Boss 4: Evil Spirit Man 2
The dead never seem to stay dead as this boss can attest to. He fights
exactly like the spirit man from round 2. You start off invincible. Jump up
on the platform above you. You'll be safe from all of the boss's shots if
you stay on the platform. The boss will fire shots with some time in between
shots. Use that time interval to drop down from the platform. Stand on the
left side. Turn and face the boss. Since the boss does not go on a firing
spree, blocking his shots is not too difficult. Just don't get careless and
block too early or too late. He'll resort to his usual walk-jump pattern
after awhile and then he's finished. Shoot him in the back and block his
shots when he does fire at you. He'll be dead after 20 or so shots. Now
extinguish the flames above you with a few shots. Then shoot the top right
torch to find a key. Grab it to finish the round.
Round 5
=======
Yin-yang: 2 visible
Things to blast: blue cabinets, brown bookcases, elephant wallscrolls,
lanterns, orange bookcases, orange cabinets, orange jars,
treasure chests
Enemies: evil masks, plants, spiders
You'll see some new enemies in this level as well as some familiar faces.
First, look at the brown bookcase that you're standing by. You should see
two masks. They will shoot arrows from their mouths. Try to hit the masks
from behind to easily avoid the shots. Three shots will kill a mask. Kill
the one that's in front of your first. The other mask on the bookcase will
require you to jump and shoot it after it shoots an arrow. However, the
plant to the right will make jumping more difficult because of its upward
shots. Therefore, make your life easier by killing it next. Now kill the
mask on the bookshelf. Now that everything is dead, you can safely jump on
the gray platform above you.
Then jump and get the yin-yang on top of the bookcase. Turn right and shoot
the lantern from there. Drop down onto the platform and shoot the orange
cabinet to the right. Jump over to the smaller platform to the right. Kill
the spider from here. Jump on the bookcase to the right. Shoot the treasure
chest. Then look closely and you'll see a mask next to the chest. Kill it
from here. Now go right and kill the spider. Then shoot the lantern. Below
the lantern is another mask. Drop down on top of the mask. Then walk off to
the left. You'll drop down behind the mask. Kill it. Then shoot the orange
and blue jars to the left. Go right a little bit and you'll encounter
another plant. Take care of it with your shots. Then jump on the platform
above. Watch out for the spider. Either kill or lure it off. Then jump and
shoot the blue cabinet. Shoot the lantern to the right afterwards.
Now drop back down to the bottom of the screen. Go right and you'll face
another plant. Kill it with your shots. You'll see an orange bookcase above
the three jars where the plant was at. Jump and time your shot so it hits
the orange bookcase. Now jump up and kill the spider to the right. Drop
down and go right. Shoot the blue cabinet. Next to the cabinet is a mask.
Kill it. Then to the right is another plant. Kill it as well. Jump and
shoot the brown bookcase's top left corner. Now jump up onto the gray
platform above you. Stand there and shoot the three elephant wallscrolls.
You can stand on the bookshelf make hitting the orange scroll easier. Then
go right. Kill the last spider and get the yin-yang.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the blue cabinets, brown bookcases, elephant wallscrolls,
lanterns, orange bookcases, orange cabinets, orange jars, and treasure chests
until you find the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've found them all, you'll
fight the boss.
Boss 5: Horned Demon
You start off being invincible. Quickly extinguish the flames on the
platform above with your shots. Then jump on the platform. Now the boss
will most likely be hopping around up and down (or walking around) firing
shots at you. Since you aren't that high up, the boss can hit you while
you're on the orange platform. You will need to jump to the gray platform to
totally avoid the boss's shots. I suggest that you also take out the flame
to the left since it will get in your way when you try to jump. Now the boss
will a moment in which it doesn't fire for a split second. Either wait for
that moment or wait for the boss to face the right before jumping off the
platform and running to the left.
You might not make it without a shot hitting you so turn around and block the
shots if necessary. Stand and block the shots once you're in the left
corner. Continue to block until the boss comes over to you. Then it should
enter into the familiar walk-jump pattern that you've seen the previous
bosses use. It may also just walk back and forth and fire. It doesn't
matter since you'll be only attacking the boss when its back is turned and
blocking its shots otherwise. Repeat this block and counterattack strategy
until the boss is dead. It will take about 20 shots or so to finish the job.
Now jump up and shoot the treasure chest to find a key. Grab it to finish
the round.
Round 6
=======
Yin-yang: 2 visible
Things to blast: lanterns, purple vases, orange jars, torches
Enemies: bats, caterpillars, spiders
The new enemy that you meet in this round is the bat. It flies faster than
any other aerial enemy that you've seen so far and zigzags in its attack. It
will definitely be your biggest concern in this level because you will be
jumping quite a lot. Be prepared to dodge it continuously throughout the
round. You'll start off under a spider. Don't move. Wait for the spider to
drop down before you move. Run to the right and don't stop until you are
past the second spider. Both spiders should drop harmlessly past you. Now
shoot all the vases on the ground. Then jump on the left vase. Jump from
there to the platform above. Shoot the orange jar on the platform. Go
right. Run past the spider and you should be able to pass without injury.
Jump up on the platform above. Shoot the flame and the torch itself. Shoot
the other flame and torch to the right. Drop down and jump on the platform
to the right. Shoot the vase above. Drop down and go right. Get the yin-
yang. Lure the spider down before you shoot the lantern above. Shoot the
vase to the right next. Then jump on the platform and shoot the orange jar.
Go right and shoot the caterpillars that get in your way. Then shoot both
vases that you find. Jump on top of the vases. Jump from there and shoot
the two torches above. You can reach the left torch by jumping on top of the
fire to the left of the torch. There is an invisible ledge above the fire
that you can safely stand on. Go right once you're done there. Pass under
the boiling cauldron. Get the yin-yang. Then shoot the orange jar above.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the lanterns, purple vases, orange jars, and torches until
you find the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've found them all, you'll fight
the boss.
Boss 6: Hat Spirit
You begin the fight being invincible. There are two demon faces on the left
and right sides. Quickly jump on the orange platform. Then turn left and
shoot the gray demon face. You can simply ignore the other demon face but if
it makes you feel better then stand on the right edge and shoot it. Now jump
on the left platform. You'll now be shielded from both the boss's and the
right demon face's shots. Stand on the platform and wait. The boss will
move to the left. Eventually he will start to go back to the right again.
Drop down to the left when he does this. Stand in the left corner. Turn
around and start blocking the boss's shots. Then the boss should go into a
walk-jump pattern like all the other bosses. If not, then just stick to the
usual block and back attack strategy. Just block the boss's shots while you
wait to shoot him in the back. About 20 shots or so are needed to finish him
off. Now shoot the treasure chest to find a key. Grab it to finish the
round.
Round 7
=======
Yin-yang: 1 visible
Things to blast: blue bookcases, blue jars, blue yin-yangs, brown bookcases,
elephant wallscrolls, gray yin-yangs, torches, vases
Enemies: bats, evil masks, plants
This is the hardest round yet with lots of enemies to avoid. Start by
killing the mask in front of you. Jump on the mask and turn left. Shoot the
bookcase. Then jump on top of the bookcase and shoot both the wallscrolls.
Drop down and go right. Jump and shoot the brown bookcase in its upper left
corner. Go right a little more and you'll see a green mask. Go back to the
left. Jump and time your shots to kill the mask. Then jump on top of the
bookcase and shoot the two torches above. Then shoot the vase to the right.
Drop back down by going down to the left instead of the right.
Now go right and kill the plant in your way. Go right a little more and kill
the other plant that you find there. Now get the yin-yang above. Jump and
time your shot to hit the blue jar on the bookshelf. Then jump on the
platform above to shoot both the blue and the gray yin-yangs. Drop down and
shoot both vases at the bottom. Jump on top of the vases and shoot the blue
yin-yang to the right. If an item appears, then you can get it by stepping
on the blue cauldron's right side and jumping from there. Shoot the
wallscroll to the right. Then drop back down and head right until you reach
the end. Jump up on the platform. Jump again to shoot the wallscrolls.
Shoot the torch too.
You should have found all 8 yin-yangs by now. If not, then you need to go
back and shoot all the blue bookcases, blue jars, blue yin-yangs, brown
bookcases, elephant wallscrolls, gray yin-yangs, torches, and vases until you
find the remaining yin-yangs. Once you've found them all, you'll fight the
boss.
Boss 7: Horned Demon 2
The horned demon is back. You begin the fight being invincible like usual.
Walk left so that you're directly under the blue jar. Then jump up. You
should now be standing on top of the left blue jar. The boss's shots will
now be unable to hit you. Now you will stand and wait. Wait for the boss to
slowly make its way to the left. Eventually it will turn around and begin to
head right again. Drop down into the left corner when this happens. Then
turn around and block any shots that come your way. Hopefully the boss will
enter the familiar (but now boring) walk-jump pattern. It's the same old
thing again. Block the boss shots and counter when its back is turned.
Around 20 or so shots will finish this boss off. Now shoot the upper right
jar to find the key. Grab it to finish the round.
Round 8
=======
The yin-yang gathering that you've done up to now is officially over. It's
fight time instead. Also, continuing from here on out will result in you
starting off in this round even if you died in round 9 or round 10. With
that in mind, let's begin the fights. This round consists of 3 boss fights
in a row.
Boss 8: Pirate Spirit
You'll start off invincible. Jump on the left cloud. Now you should avoid
most of the boss's shots from here. Jump over the few that do reach you.
Wait for the boss as it comes to the left. It will eventually head back to
the right. Quickly sneak down from the cloud and into the left corner when
it does this. Now the boss should be in the walk-jump pattern so start
blocking the shots that get fired at you. Counter when its back is turned.
Around 20 or so shots will defeat this boss. Get the item that the boss
drops. Now quickly run back to the left corner afterwards.
Now the boss is back for more. Also the demon face will begin to fire shots
outward but they won't hit you if you don't jump. Start blocking the boss's
shots as it heads for you. Eventually it will start to head right. That is
also around the same time the boss will enter the walk-jump pattern. Stick
to the same strategy as before: block the boss shots and counterattack when
its back is turned. Around 20 or so shots and this boss is toast. Now get
the item that it drops. Then run back in the left corner once more.
The boss is back for one more round. Just repeat the same strategy you used
for the last boss. Kill this one off and it will drop a key. You can then
grab it or kill the demon face for the fun of it by shooting it in its nose.
Grab the key to finish the round.
Round 9
=======
This round is another boss fight round. Three fights in a row again.
Boss 9: Demon Head
You begin the fight being invincible. Jump on the leftmost platform and jump
over any boss shots that reach you. The boss will slowly make its way to the
left. Jump to the left corner when it gets near. Now it should be in the
walk-jump pattern. Stick to your familiar block and counter strategy. The
boss may walk back and forth and fire in which case you should just block.
There will be an opening eventually so counter when you see the chance to
strike back. Around 20 or so shots will finish this boss. Get the item it
drops. Then run back to the corner.
The boss appears for round 2 of this fight. The demon face on the right will
also begin to fire shots out. Don't jump and you'll avoid them. Keep
blocking until the boss starts going back to the right again. Then it should
be in the walk-jump pattern. Block and counterattack like you always do.
Around 20 shots or so will kill it off. Get the item it drops and run back
to the corner.
The boss is back for one more try. Repeat the same strategy you used for the
last boss. Kill this one and it will drop a key. You can grab it now or
kill the demon face off by shooting it in its nose. Grab the key to finish
the round.
Round 10
========
It's time for the final fight. Don't hold anything back now.
Boss: Pirate Demon and Shiva
You'll start off invincible as always. Jump on the platform above and jump
over any shots that come your way. Wait for the boss to come to the left
side like usual. Jump off into the left corner when it starts going back to
the right. Yes, it's the very dull walk-jump pattern. Block and counter.
About 20 or so shots will kill this boss off. Grab the item it drops behind
and run back to the corner.
Get ready for round two now. The boss is back for more. The Shiva statue
will now be firing at you. You can one of two things now. Both will result
in the final fight. The first is to kill the boss off like usual. The
second (and safer) thing to do is to stand on the higher blue platform's left
edge and fire at the statue's head. Granted, you will have to time your
shots but that shouldn't be a problem for you by now. Around 20 shots or so
will kill the statue. It drops an item. Grab it and the boss below will
disappear and the statue will come back alive again. If you chose to kill
the boss instead, grabbing the item after you kill it will have the same
effect.
Now both statue heads will fire shots downward. You have two spots to attack
from. You can choose to use the stationary blue platforms or the moving
cloud platform. I find using the top blue platform is the easiest. Just
stand there and jump to avoid the statue's shots. Time your jumps carefully.
You should also be firing at the statues' heads during your jump. You can
get two shots off per jump. Do this for about 20 shots and the statue will
drop a key. Now you can grab it to finish the game or do have more fun by
killing the other statue head too. It's even easier to do since you don't
have to avoid any shots from where you stand. Give the other head 20 shots
or so and it will die too. It drops a key which you should now grab to
finish the game.
Don't blink because if you do you will miss the ending. Stare in disbelief
at the ending. Congratulations for finishing this game and saving the world
from evil.
