Magical Taru Ruto-Kun is the first of two platformer games for the Famicom.
It is very reminiscent of Super Mario Brothers 3 by its structure and general
gameplay style. However, this game is like any typical old-school platformer;
you can jump and attack while moving through side-view stages. If you get hit
by an enemy or fall into a pit, you will die. There are seven worlds to make
your way through, with various items and mini-games to check out along the
way. It can be tough at certain points, but if you have some patience and
skill, you will be able to get through the game with no problem. If you are
looking for a fun and simple platformer for the NES/Famicom, I would
recommend checking this out. It is a bit text-heavy in cutscenes, but it is
not relevant to actually completing the game.

Dumplings
=========
In the course of the game, you will encounter round items called dumplings.
You can jump on them as ledges, and you can collect them as well. You can
hold a maximum of 500 at once. The purpose of dumplings is that you can buy
items in the shop upon completion of a stage. Usually dumplings count for 1
apiece, but sometimes you will get 10 dumplings for collecting one, or gain
temporary invincibility, or even uncover extra lives and the goals at the end
of every stage.

Mini-Games
==========
On the world maps, you will find areas that won't lead to actual stages or
people. These are the mini-games, as described below.
Dumpling-Catching: You will be given 30 seconds to run back and forth in
front of a dumpling stand. The man will throw dumplings in
the air, one at a time, and you can collect them as
desired. In this mini-game, the dumplings you grab from
the air will each count for 10.
Pink Balloon: For this mini-game, you will be shown a 3x3 grid with various
characters' pictures on them. A cursor will randomly move
around, and you will have five chances to stop the cursor on
whatever picture it's on. The first stop will reveal a "free"
space of sorts. If you light up three pictures in a row on the
board, you will gain a certain amount of extra lives.

Saving your Game
================
On any world map screen, you can press Start and a menu will come up. You
need to buy a Turbo item (found in the shops accessible after completing any
stage) and use it in order to save.

World 1
=======
Stage 1-1
---------
Starting off, head right and defeat the mouse enemies that approach you. Jump
up the ledges and defeat a couple more, then collect some dumplings along the
way. Go down the ledges and defeat the enemies, then continue right and you
will see a snail enemy on a ledge made of dumplings. These enemies will roll
at high speed towards you, so jump to avoid them (you cannot kill them with
your regular attacks). There will be another one coming down the ledges to
the right, so be prepared.
Further along, you will see a mouse atop two dumplings. If you collect the
upper dumpling, you will become invincibile for a limited time (you get this
power by collecting certain specific dumplings, so it's important to collect
them all). Get past the larger hedgehog enemies as they come down the ledges
ahead, then continue to the right. Defeat the shelled enemies (they take two
hits to defeat), and beat the mouse enemies past them. Grab the dumplings in
the air to get an extra life, thveve en collect the second to last dumpling
to
complete this level.
Stage 1-2
---------
From the start, go right but look out for the rolling snail enemy above. Head
up the ledges and collect the rightmost dumpling in the second set to become
invincible. Move to the right quickly while going through the mice and
shelled enemies, then go up the steps where the three snail enemies roll down
(this is annoying without invincibility, so it's a good idea to get past this
while you have the power).
Continue to the right and collect some dumplings along the way, then defeat
the mouse enemy on the small ledge. If you want an extra life, grab the
dumpling above the pit there. Up ahead, you will see three statue heads fall
from the sky to shoot orbs at you; jump to avoid the attack, then defeat them
quickly with your attack. Past that, you will see three dumplings at the end
of the stage; the middle one has an extra life, and the first one is the
goal.
Stage 1-3
---------
Here, head right and collect the dumplings along the way, defeating the mouse
enemies walking along them. You will see a bridge formed out of dumplings;
collect them or walk across and defeat the enemies, then continue onward. You
will reach a tall perch where a rolling snail enemy will come down, so jump
to avoid it and continue up the ledges. Just beyond the wall, two more snails
will roll down, so stay on the elevated ledges and jump across the lower
area.
The next part can be tricky since you have to jump across a pit using the
dumplings. Defeat the mouse enemy atop one of them and get across the pit
safely. For the next part of the level, there will be several ledges made out
of the dumplings that you must use to get through the level, so try not to
collect them! Jump to avoid the snail and defeat the mouse enemies ahead.
Once you reach the platform after the last pit, collect the first dumpling to
reach the goal (the others give 10 dumplings and an extra life).
On the world map, you can now collect the present in the southeast corner to
get a Bow and Arrow!
Stage 1-4
---------
This stage is actually the most straightforward one you have faced thus far.
Head to the right and defeat the shelled enemies as you progress, and
continue until you see two mouse enemies on the low platforms. Stand at the
edge of the first platform and hold down to attack/defeat the one below, then
defeat the other one so you can get by safely. Collect the many dumplings
along the way and you will reach a bridge formed by them. The third dumpling
from the right on the bottom row has an extra life if you want to grab it
from above and jump across the gap that is formed; just be sure to defeat the
mice first!
For the rest of the level, simply go right and kill any enemies you encounter
along the way, and collect a whole lot of dumplings. When you reach the end,
you will see the usual three dumplings; the first one is the goal and the
others give 10 dumplings and an extra life.
You can now bring the Bow and Arrow to the girl on the west side of the map,
and she will leave. This allows you to access the northwest portion of the
area.
Stage 1-5
---------
From the start, head right and jump over the shelled enemies. Jump across the
moving platform and continue right on either path; both have mouse enemies so
there is no difference. When the path splits again, stay on the upper path or
you will get trapped below. Defeat the enemies ahead and get onto the high
plateau ahead, where you will see a man dropping dumplings out of his hat.
Collect as many as you can since they each count for 10 dumplings.
Ahead, jump across the small ledges and defeat the mouse enemies as you make
it across. When you reach the other end safely, you will reach the usual
three dumplings; the last one will be the goal this time.
In the northwest corner of the map, you can go to the bag and collect the
item inside. You can also go to the dumpling icon, where you can play a mini-
game that involves collecting dumplings that count for 10 apiece. Along the
eastern path on the map, you will see a pink balloon. You will play another
game where you have a 3x3 grid with various characters on them. You will get
to pick 5 of them at random, and if you complete a row within these 5 turns,
you will get some extra lives! There is another dumpling mini-game around the
corner from this balloon before you head to the next level.
Stage 1-6
---------
Starting off, head to the right across the dumpling steps. After you pass the
mouse enemy, you will see bee enemies above; be careful as they will swoop
down quickly to attack. Jump across the small ledges and continue to the
right, grabbing more dumplings and killing the mice you meet. For the next
part, you will jump across a series of high platforms, but watch out for the
approaching bees. You can kill them as well, so be sure to do that as you
encounter them.
When you reach the moving platform, jump from it to reach the upper ledge so
you can progress. Further ahead, there will be more bees as you navigate
across the tall ledges. Once you get to the flat area, go right and the first
dumpling you see will contain the goal.
From here, there is nothing left except for you to proceed to the boss
character in the northeast, named Jabao.
Stage 1 Boss
------------
For this boss fight, Jabao will charge back and forth, stopping periodically
to rest. If you get hit, you will die, so when you see him coming, jump to
avoid getting tackled. When he stops, use your attack to cause damage.
Sometimes the boss will stop short unexpectedly, so be careful when jumping
over him since that might happen. At any rate, it will take three hits to
defeat the boss, thus completing World 1!

World 2
=======
Stage 2-1
---------
In this new world, you will be facing an underwater level. You can swim in
the four directions, but if you stay still you will float upward naturally.
Your regular attack still applies here, and it will surely come in handy.
Anyway, head right through this level, attacking the simple fish and shelled
enemies while grabbing the dumplings along the way. Head through the stage
until you meet the red octopus enemies; they move upward and shoot ink balls
at you periodically.
Shortly after them though, you will see a clam on a ledge. You can only
attack when its shell is open, but that's when it can also attack you. A
single attack of your own will kill it. Get past another clam ahead, then
collect the final three dumplings to complete the level.
Stage 2-2
---------
Starting off, swim to the right past the regular fish enemies. When you reach
a split in the path, the lower path will lead to a lot of dumplings. However,
it will be safer to take the upper path so you can kill the clam first, then
go down to the dumplings if you want them. There is another clam on the high
path ahead, but if you take the lower path, you will be able to collect the
dumplings, one of which will grant you temporary invincibility. Grab the many
dumplings in the area and continue going right past more clams below. You may
want to kill them, since their shots will follow you around for a while if
you don't dispose of them quickly. At the end of the stage, the middle
dumpling is the goal one.
Back on the map, you could talk to the man on the west side and he will move.
That will allow you to access the pink balloon (bingo mini-game), as well as
the third stage if you want to go there.
Stage 2-3
---------
For this stage, you will be on dry land again. The danger here is that there
will be fish and octopus enemies jumping out of the water below to attack.
The best approach is to take it slow and watch where the enemies jump out, so
that when they go back into the water, you can get past or wait so you can
kill them. About halfway through the stage, a man will float from above while
dropping dumplings worth 10 each. Collect a bunch of those if you want after
killing the octopus enemy of course, then continue onward to the end. The
middle dumpling at the end is the one containing the goal.
After beating the third stage, you can collect the item inside the bag on the
map ahead.
Stage 2-4
---------
Back underwater, swim to the right past a bunch of fish enemies. When you
reach the narrow passage, collect the dumplings along the lower path and kill
the one fish you encounter. At the split, you can take the upper path back to
the left so you can collect an extra life hidden with the dumplings. Past
that, take the upper path and defeat the octopus enemies, and collect the
dumplings to gain the invincibility. Continue onward through the usual
enemies, and you will see large angler fish that attack by shooting
electrical bolts in your direction. Defeat a few of them and you will be at
the end; the final dumpling contains the goal.
Before you continue east to the second half of the map, you can do the other
pink balloon mini-game if you so desire. The man in the way won't let you
pass, so you have to take the upper path to the next map.
Stage 2-5
---------
For this underwater stage, you will be stuck dealing with many clams along
the way. A good approach would be to kill each of them as you come across
them, so that their attacks don't end up following you through the more
narrow areas ahead. When you reach the narrow passage with the dumplings, get
through it quickly to avoid the clam's attack from above. Past that, defeat
the angler fish and you will pass by many small ledges with clams on them.
Make your way through this area, then collect the middle dumpling at the end
to claim the goal.
Back on the map, you need to go to the girl in the northeast area. She will
move out of the way, so collect the mermaid suit in the present box. Now,
bring it to the man in the way along the southern path and he will leave.
Past that, play the dumpling-catching mini-game and head east to a seemingly
empty space. Talk to the creature there, then take the northern path to the
next stage.
Stage 2-6
---------
In this underwater level, you will see a new enemy in the form of weird faces
that stay perfectly still and do nothing. You will die if you hit one, so a
simple attack will be enough to clear them away. The rest of the level is
rather straightforward with only the regular fish enemies and walking shelled
enemies on some ledges, so there are no real hazards to note. Just collect
the dumplings and clear the enemies as you come across them, and you will be
in great shape through the rest of this stage.
Once the stage is over, talk to the girl to the west. Your job in this watery
world is complete, so you will go on to the third world!

World 3
=======
Stage 3-1
---------
Starting off here, head to the right and defeat the mouse enemies as you come
to them. Jump over the rolling snails and collect the dumplings in the air to
become invincible. Hop across the small ledges ahead, then get across the
high and low points ahead (make sure you don't fall into the lower areas as
you may get trapped and die by the snails above). When you reach the giant
hedgehog, jump over it since you cannot kill it. At the next large pit, jump
across the dumplings which act as small ledges. When you reach the other
side, watch out for the hedgehogs charging towards you. The final dumpling
contains the goal here.
On the map screen, go east and you will have to face the giant eyeball enemy
in battle. It will hop twice before stopping to rest. Jump over it or run
below to avoid getting hit, and attack when it stops briefly. It will only
take three hits to kill this simple creature.
Stage 3-2
---------
In this starry setting, go east across the small pits (watch out for falling
stars as they will kill you). After you get past the first high ledge, watch
out for the hedgehogs below as you progress. You will see ring formations in
the air above; two are of dumplings and the middle one is comprised of those
stationary enemies. Collect the dumplings and kill the enemies if you want,
otherwise continue onward and avoid the hedgehog as it falls from a high
ledge.
After you cautiously get past the next couple of hedgehogs as they fall from
higher ledges, you will see the man dropping dumplings as he floats downward.
Collect some of you want, then continue ahead where you will have to watch
for even more falling stars. Stick to the lower path and avoid the stars as
you move along, and collect the dumplings that form a wall ahead of you. The
upper path has hedgehogs, so it is certainly safer to stay down here. Up
ahead, collect the final dumpling to complete the stage.
Stage 3-3
---------
Starting off, go right and jump across the flying carpet to reach the other
side. Take the lower path to the right and be careful of the falling statue
heads, then attack/defeat them before they shoot their projectiles. Jump
across the next gap and take the upper path to defeat the mouse enemies you
meet. Up ahead, you will meet some green worm enemies; you can only attack
them head on as they curl upward so your attack will hit them. They will be a
dominant force for the rest of the level, so be sure to clear them as you
come across them. Collect the dumplings along the way and continue through
the level, killing the worms and mice, and you will see a worm crawling
around a dumpling in the air. That one counts for 10 dumplings, then the next
dumpling has an extra life. The final dumpling will have this stage's goal!
Before you continue to the fourth stage, you can take a side path to a
dumpling catching mini-game.
Stage 3-4
---------
From the start, jump to the upper ledge and cross the bridge of dumplings.
Jump to attack/defeat the weird head enemies hanging on the ceiling, then
watch out for the swooping bees ahead. Try to jump and kill them as you go
through the next area. When you reach the two groups of four dumplings,
collect them and you will gain invincibility. Also, watch out for the pelican
enemies that fly up and down through the area.
After you pass more dumplings, you will have to deal with shooting stars that
fall from above. Try not to move too far ahead so you don't get hit, and
defeat the ones that come within range of your attack. Past them, get past a
few more pelicans and bees that are flying around. Grab the dumplings as you
go along, and you will see the final three dumplings after the area with the
bees. The final dumpling contains the goal for this level.
After you complete the fourth level, go west to meet Dracula. In the cave
area, kill the five regular bats that come out of the holes in the background
wall. When the main enemy appears, it will hover back and forth above,
swooping down periodically. Jump and attack it to cause damage. Hit Dracula
three times to defeat it. Back on the map, go north to meet a hidden old man
who will build a bridge to the northeast area. You can then play the pink
balloon mini-game before continuing across the new bridge.
Across the bridge, you will see the evil claw/snake enemy. You will have to
battle it in an area with many small ledges. The enemy will bounce from ledge
to ledge, so you can jump over it or run under it as it passes by. Attack it
three times to win the battle. From here, you can step into the portal to the
south and you will reach another area of the map. There, collect the item
inside the bag, then warp back to where you were before. Now, go north to the
fifth level.
Stage 3-5
---------
From the start, go right and you will see the new stone enemies; attack them
and they will be stunned temporarily. You cannot kill them, so your best bet
is to stun and jump over them. Jump across the moving platform and land on
the upper ledge, then collect the dumplings and kill the mouse enmeies as you
move forward. After you get through the long hallway with the mouse enemies,
collect the dumplings in the floor and drop to the lower area to continue.
Get past the stone enemies, but when you reach the next hallway segment, keep
moving since mole enemies will be digging out of the ground to attack!
For the next part of the level, you will deal with hopping bird enemies. Just
keep collecting the dumplings and defeating these birds as you approach them,
and continue down the final hall. Jump over the stone enemy and watch out for
the hovering red enemy, then you will be at the end of the stage. The middle
dumpling contains the goal here.
After you complete the stage, you can go to a dumpling-catching mini-game to
the north. Follow the path to the west and you will have to fight a giant
dragon enemy. It moves back and forth on the ground, shooting fireballs at
you every now and then. You can use the small ledges above to get across the
area as needed. The top of the dragon's head is its weak point, so jump and
attack it to cause damage. Hit it three times to win, then go on to the next
level.
Stage 3-6
---------
Starting off, go right and jump across a few ledges. You will see a new
obstacle in the form of an elephant which hovers upward a short distance
before crashing down to the platform below it. You will have to jump/drop
onto the ledge as the elephant rises up, and hop across to the next one
before it falls so you don't die. Past that, you will have to get across
numerous small ledges while dealing with birds flying toward you dropping
rocks below them. You can kill them, so it shouldn't be too difficult if you
don't rush ahead prematurely.
After you get past the first couple of birds, there will be another elephant
you need to pass under quickly. Do so, then you will need to hop across
dumplings and small ledges to defeat even more birds coming your way. There
will be another elephant to make it past as well. Once you make it through,
you will have to jump across even more dumplings while defeating the birds.
Once you reach the ground area ahead, pass under the elephant and collect the
very last dumpling to reach the end of the level (the others contain the
usual extra life and 10 dumplings).
Once you clear the stage, another enemy will appear on the map ahead.
Approach it to engage in battle with it. The enemy will move/jump back and
forth, stopping to shoot beams in several directions ahead of and diagonally
below it. You need to jump and attack its face to cause damage. It is safest
to stay on the high ledges on the sides of the room, then when the monster
stops attacking, quickly drop down to attack. Three hits will defeat it.
After the boss enemy is cleared, go ahead to open the present box on the map.
It will contain a wand of sorts. After the scenes that follow it, you will be
in the snowy fourth world!
=======
World 4
=======
From where you begin here, go into the ski lift building and you will ride to
the top screen. Talk to the man at the top, then follow the path to the first
level.
Stage 4-1
---------
Starting off, go right and jump over the hedgehog as you collect some
dumplings. Avoid the second hedgehog when it drops down from the dumpling
ledges high above, and continue onward. Jump to the ledge with the mouse
enemy and defeat it, then go right after the hedgehogs run past. Continue
right and jump over a couple of ice blocks, then avoid the hedgehogs as you
progress further. Collect the dumplings and jump up the ledges, then continue
right and jump over even more hedgehogs.
You will reach a point where there will be a high ledge you can't jump to,
and a narrow corridor below it. Hedgehogs will come at you from both of these
approaches, so you need to go right to make them appear, then quickly back up
and jump to avoid dying. In that corridor, collect the dumplings in the
narrow openings in the ground and drop into them so any incoming hedgehogs
will run past safely above. Jump over the wall to the right and defeat the
mouse enemies, then continue onward to reach the final three dumplings. The
very first one will have the goal for this stage inside.
On your way to the second stage, you can play the dumpling-catching mini-game
as you can see.
Stage 4-2
---------
This stage is actually very simple since there is very little in your way.
For the most part, you only have to worry about shooting stars that fall from
above. If you see them coming, you will be able to react quickly enough to
attack or dodge them, so it's not a big deal. Hop across the ledges and gaps
as you progress while dealing with the falling stars. You will reach a point
where there is a large gap and those face enemies lingering below. Jump
across the dumplings above to get across safely. Once you reach the ground,
go right and collect the first of the final three dumplings to complete the
stage.
Stage 4-3
---------
Start off by going right and defeating the mouse enemies along the way. When
you reach the gap, jump onto the moving platforms and make your way across
them to progress over the pit. It will help to stay on the right side of the
platforms to trigger the next one to appear. When you reach the pattern of
dumplings ahead, defeat the statue heads that fall/stack from above. You
don't need to ride the platform here; it's more of a trap if anything.
Jump across the dumplings and head right, defeating the statue head enemies
as they fall. When you reach the end of the path, jump onto the next moving
platform and hop across a series of them up ahead. At the end of the vertical
moving ones, jump to the horizontally-moving platforms and continue to the
wall. Jump onto the safe platform and go right, defeating the mouse enemies
you encounter. Soon you will reach the final three dumplings; the middle one
has the stage's goal.
Stage 4-4
---------
From the start, jump up the ledges and go right. Stay on the upper path and
jump over the stone enemy you encounter. Drop off the other side of the high
plateau and continue right, jumping over the stone enemies as you go up the
step ledges. Hop across the next several moving platforms ahead, then jump
onto the ledge of dumplings. Drop to the ledge below and defeat the mouse
enemy so you can stay safe, and get across the smaller ledges ahead. When you
reach the statue heads that stack onto each other, stand on the edge of the
previous platform and attack to clear them.
Continue jumping from ledge to ledge after defeating the enemies on them, and
then get across the moving platforms ahead. When you reach the middle safe
ledge, land on it and defeat the mouse enemy there. For the final section,
the platforms will drop into the pit as soon as you step on them, so you need
to quickly hop across them all to make it safely to the other side. Defeat
the mouse enemy at the end, then continue right to the final three dumplings.
The very first one contains the goal.
After you beat this stage, you can take the side path to reach a portal.
Don't bother though, since if you take this detour, you won't make it to the
very end of the world before the other characters on the map. Since that is
your ultimate goal, you can afford to miss the mini-games in this world.
Stage 4-5
---------
Start by collecting the dumplings in the air and defeat the mouse enemies
ahead. Jump onto the ledge of dumplings and run/jump through the small
opening to cross the gap and reach the next ledge. Defeat the mouse when you
land, then jump across the small ledges and dumplings ahead, defeating the
enemies in your way. Further ahead, avoid the stone enemies and you will soon
encounter the statue heads falling from the sky. Avoid their fire, then
defeat them quickly and jump to the following ledges.
Up ahead, there will be more dumplings to jump across. There will also be
those face enemies mixed in, so you will want to kill the ones above the
dumplings so you don't accidentally jump into them. Past that, jump up the
step ledges to the top area, and you will see the man dropping dumplings from
his hat. Collect some if you want, otherwise continue right to deal with more
sets of statue heads falling from above. Clear them, then take the first
dumpling to reach the stage's goal.
Along the way to the next level, you can collect the item inside of the bag.
Stage 4-6
---------
From the start, go right and jump over the several hedgehogs that charge your
way. Defeat the mouse enemies, then you will reach the wide pit. Defeat the
mouse enemy on the ledge ahead, then jump to it and repeat. For the third
enemy, it will be much trickier. You need to time your jump so you land on
the very edge of the platform, then quickly attack/kill the mouse on it so
you will be able to safely continue.
Past the fourth mouse enemy/ledge, you will have to deal with plenty of
hedgehogs falling from the higher ledges. There will be several groups of two
ledges; the hedgehogs will come from the higher ones and land on the lower
ones before falling into the pit. Make your way across the area by avoiding
the hedgehogs and watching where you jump. After you make it all the way
across, take the higher path to the right, jumping to avoid the next wave of
enemies. Then, continue onward until you see three mouse enemies walking on
three dumplings. The final dumpling contains the goal, so defeat the enemies
before collecting the dumplings to be safe.
After you complete this level, follow the path through the tape to reach the
goal first! Watch the scene with the other characters, then you will go on to
the next world.

World 5
=======
Stage 5-1
---------
From the start, go right and defeat the hopping bird enemies you meet. For
the next part, you will see several circles formed by dumplings above, with
the bird enemies inside. If you want to collect the dumplings, go for it, but
you need to defeat the birds as well. When you reach the water ahead, jump
across the small ledges and get to the other side. There, you will meet the
rolling snail enemies. Jump to avoid them when they start rolling at high
speed towards you.
Defeat the hopping birds ahead, then you will reach some steps with snails
going down them. When they see you, they will start rolling down quickly to
attack, so be prepared to jump and avoid a collision. At the top plateau, go
right and drop down to the other side. You will then see the final three
dumplings as usual; the first one has the goal.
Stage 5-2
---------
In this area, begin by going right and jump across the series of small
ledges. There will be statue heads falling from the sky, so defeat them as
they appear to make it across safely. On the solid ground ahead, you will
meet some worm enemies that will crawl along the ground and walls. You can
defeat them if they are in your way, otherwise it's easy enough to jump over
them. Get across the hilly terrain and you will soon reach the water again.
Hop across another bunch of small ledges, avoiding/killing the worms that
crawl on them. Up ahead, defeat the statue heads, and you will see another
hazard ahead in the form of fire-spitting flowers. Avoid the fireballs and
jump onto the flying carpets overhead, then continue to the right. Jump to
avoid the fire-shooting flowers below and jump to the right. Defeat a couple
more worms and you will see the final set of dumplings ahead. The first one
will lead you to the goal.
Stage 5-3
---------
Starting off, go right, but be careful since fish will jump out of the water
below. Proceed with caution and you will know where they will appear. Jump to
the upper ledge and continue onward, where you will then have to jump across
quite a number of small ledges while avoiding more jumping fish and octopus
enemies shooting ink balls at you. The best approach is to keep moving by
running and jumping across the high blocks, pausing only when the incoming
fire is in the way of your next jump.
When you reach the end of this stretch, jump to the higher ledge and avoid
the fire-spitting flowers as you proceed. If you touch the flower bulbs, you
will die as well, so jump over them after dodging the flames. Avoid these as
you hop across the flying carpets and avoid the octopus enemies jumping out
of the water below. Then, continue to the right along the flat section and
avoid the final couple of octopus attackers. Collect the middle dumpling in
the usual formation to complete this level.
Before you continue to the next level, you can play a dumpling-catching mini-
game to the south. To the north, you can collect a fan item from the bag.
Stage 5-4
---------
Start off by jumping up the dumpling steps, then jump over the hippo enemy on
the ledge below. Land to the right of it and hop over the water, avoiding the
fish that jump out. For the next part, when you encounter a hippo, collect
the dumplings under it so that it falls into the water below. Defeat the
birds along the way and continue onward, clearing any additional hippos along
the way. At the end of the dumpling bridge, defeat some more birds and go
right to find a hippo at the edge of a platform. There will also be octopus
enemies jumping out of the water ahead. So, avoid their fire, then quickly
jump over the hippo to reach the other side.
Continue along the lower path, jumping over the hippos and hopping along
small ledges ahead. Soon after, you will see three red blocks with faces on
them. Jump onto them and it will trigger them to activate; a new block will
appear to the right, and the leftmost block will disappear. Move along this
platform while avoiding the octopus fire below, and you will reach the final
ledge at the end. The very first dumpling here will contain your goal.
Stage 5-5
---------
This stage is another VERY simple one for you to get through. In the first
area, you have to deal with bees swooping down from above, so defeat/dodge
them as necessary. When you reach the wall, jump and collect the bottom two
rows of dumplings to dig yourself a tunnel. Shortly after entering, you will
receive invincibility from one of the dumplings, so keep moving and
collecting the dumplings to proceed. Defeat the giant pelican enemies as they
swoop up and down through this area. When you finally make it through to the
other end of this area, avoid another round of bees swooping down on you, and
collect the first dumpling you see to complete the stage.
Stage 5-6
---------
For this simple stage, begin by clearing the face enemies floating in the
air. As you head right through this stage, you will have to deal with
shooting stars above. A good method is to clear the star that comes your way,
then jump to the next ledge and repeat before proceeding further. You will
need to clear more of those face enemies along the way. This is basically
what the entire level entails, so just keep jumping from ledge to ledge while
avoiding the stars and killing the face enemies. At the end of the stage, the
final dumpling will contain the stage's goal.
Upon completion of this stage, go ahead to the present box and collect the
glasses inside. Bring them to the girl in the northeast corner of the map,
and she will send you to a hidden area of the map. There, you can play five
of the pink balloon mini-games. At the end of the path, open the present box
and you will be sent back to where you started so you can continue to the
next stage.
Stage 5-7
---------
In this stage, go right and defeat the statue heads and bird enemies that hop
towards you. Go up the ledges and continue right, being careful not to take
too long so the moles don't surprise you from below. Ahead you will have to
deal with fire-shooting flowers. Jump over them when an opening is available,
and continue to the right. Hop across a couple of platforms and defeat the
statue heads that fall from above.
Next, jump across a bunch of dumplings to reach a series of flying carpets.
Hop from the lowest one to reach the highest, and get to the northeast ledge.
Defeat or avoid the worms here, and hop across a few more sinking platforms
ahead. Jump onto the next dumpling you see and collect it to become
invincible temporarily. With this power, get across the rest of these small
ledges, collecting the dumplings if you want them. Farther ahead, defeat the
worms and another hopping bird enemy, and jump to the final area of flat
land. The first dumpling you come to will contain the goal.
Stage 5 Boss
------------
For this boss battle, the enemy will appear at a random location in the area
and will shoot three energy balls in your direction before disappearing. The
only time you can attack is when she is visible, so you will need to see
where she is about to appear (designated by a cloud of smoke). Then, quickly
jump and attack before she attacks you. It will take three hits as usual to
defeat this boss, sending you onward to World 6!

World 6
=======
Stage 6-1
---------
Starting off here, collect the dumplings and avoid the stone enemies ahead.
When you reach the statue heads, defeat them as they fall while moving to
avoid the stone enemy that falls from the high ledge. Continue onward through
the area, jumping over more stone enemies as you meet them. Defeat the mouse
enemies and avoid the red floating ones as you proceed further along. Get
onto the upper ledges as you continue onward, and defeat the statue heads and
avoid the red enemies as you go right through the passage.
At the other side, jump across the small gap and defeat the statue heads that
fall onto the ledge ahead. Hop across a sinking platform and continue onward
to the end of the level. The final dumpling contains the goal here.
Stage 6-2
---------
Start by going right and jumping over/running below the red flying enemies.
Ahead, you will have to get through numerous elevated platforms with flames
shooting up and down on each of them. It would be wise to wait until the
flames retreat into the floor before jumping over them. When you get to the
end, you will see the statue heads coming down from above. This will be very
tricky, since you have to deal with a stone enemy walking around down there
as well. Wait until the heads shoot their projectiles, then carefully jump
into the opening between the ledge and the statue heads, and quickly kill
them.
Continue to the right and defeat another round of statue heads. In the open
area ahead, you will need to dodge another wave of the flying red enemies
since you cannot kill them. Then, defeat the mouse enemies as you jump across
the platforms and the gaps between them. At the end, you will find the final
three dumplings; the first one contains the goal.
After you complete this stage, you can do the pink balloon mini-game to the
south. If you talk to the guy on the map, you won't be able to pass right
now, so you have to take the northeast path (completing two dumpling-catching
games in the process). You will then reach the fourth stage (you'll come back
to the third one).
Stage 6-3
---------
For this entire stage, you will have to deal with a constant bombardment of
stars raining from the sky. Luckily, there is really nothing else to bother
you throughout the entire run, so you basically just need to dodge the stars
and attack them when necessary. When you reach the point with the red moving
platforms, the stars will pretty much stop falling, which will be a relief
since it would make that part so much worse if they did. When you reach the
end of the level, the middle dumpling contains the goal.
After you beat this third stage, you can go ahead to collect the kettle from
the present box. Bring it to the man standing nearby, then you can continue
east to a portal. When you arrive at the other end, you can go east to the
sixth level.
Stage 6-4
---------
From the start, defeat the face enemies in the air and head right. Collect
the dumplings as you jump up the ledges, then continue along the path while
defeating/dodging the enemies along the way. You will deal with the mouse
enemies and the stone ones you can only stun. There will be plenty more of
those face enemies, but you can jump over them easily. Defeat some more mice
and you will see the man who drops dumplings as he floats downward on the
screen.
From this point, avoid the stone enemies as you jump across the next few
ledges. There will be a flat section with mouse enemies ahead of that, so be
sure to defeat them. Beyond that point, there will be more face enemies
surrounding the final three dumplings. The very first dumpling has the goal,
which will also clear the enemies as well.
Stage 6-5
---------
Starting off, go right and jump over the flame, and land next to it. Hop
across the dumplings, stopping on the second one to collect the third one,
causing the statue heads to fall into the pit. Defeat another set of statue
heads when they fall, then get through the passage full of dumplings. Lead
the stone enemy to the far left, then jump over it and continue to the right.
Hop over the next few stone enemies and dodge the flying red enemies, and
jump across some ledges ahead.
Defeat the mouse enemies when you meet them, then continue ahead to the next
section. When you reach the series of steps, jump to the ledge directly above
so the stone enemy can pass below, then continue onward. When you reach the
ledges made out of dumplings, do not collect them; instead defeat the statue
heads atop them and jump across to the next ledge. Jump over the final gap
and defeat these enemies on the edge of the platform, then jump over the
flames and collect the final three dumplings. The very last one is the goal.
After you complete this stage, you can go west to a dumpling-catching mini-
game. From there, you can reach the third level.
Stage 6-6
---------
Start off by going right and defeat the mouse enemy atop the dumplings.
Collect them and you will gain the invincibility power for a limited time.
Hop up the steps and get across a series of red platforms that fall into the
pit as soon as you land on them. Up ahead, you will have to jump across small
block ledges with mole enemies digging their way onto them, so you will have
to move fast to avoid getting hit by them!
When you reach solid ground, continue right across a couple more gaps. At the
other side, jump to the upper ledge and walk across the dumplings, then jump
across some more block ledges. Stop to defeat the statue heads that stack
onto one of the blocks. Hop across the next several ledges after the stone
enemies fall from them, and you will see a single dumpling in the air ahead.
Jump onto it, then wait for the mouse enemy ahead to move to the right before
jumping onto its ledge and killing the enemy. Land on the final patch of
ground up ahead and you will find the goal in the middle dumpling.
After you beat this stage, you can play the pink balloon mini-game nearby. To
the north is a bag where you will find a flashlight inside.
Stage 6-7
---------
From the start, go right and defeat the mouse enemies. Past them, jump over
the stone enemies, but be careful of the rolling snail enemies on the ledges
beyond that. Jump across the two small ledges and wait for the red platform
to come so you can jump onto it. At the far end, jump to the other platform
above and then onto the ledge with a dumpling above it. Collect that dumpling
to receive invincibility. With it, jump across the next several dumplings and
defeat the mouse enemies atop them.
After that, ride the next red platform across another wide gap, and defeat
the mouse enemy on the platform ahead. Quickly hop across the red platforms
that sink when you step on them, and wait for the stone enemies to fall into
the pit before you jump from ledge to ledge ahead. When you land on the
ground, go right and defeat some mouse enemies. Once you see the stone enemy,
be ready to jump over it and the snail enemies that will start rolling
towards you. The first dumpling you see will contain the stage's goal.
Upon completion of this stage, go north and talk to the woman to finish off
this world.

World 7
=======
As soon as you enter this world, go north and you will meet an old man. He
will force you to go east, and the bridge will crumble as soon as you cross
it. Play the dumpling-catching mini-game and then head to the first stage.
Stage 7-1
---------
Begin by going right and jumping between the two flames. When the snail enemy
rolls toward you, jump over it. When the flames lower, jump to the right and
collect the dumplings in the ground. If you encounter a snail enemy, move to
the left of a gap you cleared up to avoid getting hit. At the other end, head
right and collect a bunch of dumplings. At the end of the passage, wait for
the flame to retract below, then quickly run to the right and fall onto the
ground safely.
Continue to the right and defeat some mouse enemies while jumping over the
snails if they start rolling. Past that, jump up the ledges by hopping over
the flames and landing on the dumplings along the way. At the top, go right
and jump over more snails. Defeat the mouse enemies below and jump to the
upper ledge to avoid the flames below. Go across the bridge of dumplings and
avoid even more snails along your path. Defeat a few more mouse enemies and
you will soon reach the final three dumplings guarded by flames below them.
The very last dumpling will have the goal.
After you beat this stage, your westward path will be blocked. That means you
have to go north to the third stage for now.
Stage 7-2
---------
From the start, defeat the bees as they swoop down from above. Hop across the
platforms to the right as you jump to kill the bees overhead. When you reach
the mouse enemies, collect the two dumplings below one of them to gain the
invincibility power once again. With it, go right and jump across the ledges
past the giant elephant and mouse enemies.
Once the power wears out, go right and you will have to jump up a series of
steep dumpling-filled ledges while passing under a giant elephant that will
try to crush you, as well as the swooping bees. Defeat the bees, then quickly
collect the first set of dumplings to get past the elephant. Quickly jump up
the ledges to the top and avoid/kill the bees, then continue to the area
ahead. Avoid the stone enemies on the ground, and try not to collect the
dumplings in the air surrounding other stone enemies. Up ahead, you will
reach the final three dumplings; the first one contains the goal.
From where you clear this stage, go into the northern portal (you can do the
pink balloon mini-game if you want nearby). When you emerge, go north to the
sixth stage.
Stage 7-3
---------
When you begin, watch out for the floating red enemies (you cannot kill them)
and the stone enemies on the ground. Jump between them as you head right,
then jump onto the red platform and ride it to the right. Jump onto the next
couple of red platforms and ride them onward, defeating the enemies in the
way in between. After the third platform, defeat a bunch of mouse enemies and
continue to the right while defeating groups of statue head enemies. Further
ahead, there will be more mice and statue heads to take care of. At the end
of the level, jump over the flames and collect the very last dumpling to
reach the goal.
After you're done with this stage, collect the wand item inside of the bag,
then continue west to a portal (the way north is blocked). At the other end,
go west and north to the second stage.
Stage 7-4
---------
Begin by going right and jumping across the red platforms as they sink into
the pit below. Defeat the mouse enemies at the other side, then go right and
jump over the flames to progress further. Drop to the lower area and take the
lower path to the right, since it is safer. Defeat the mouse enemies ahead as
you jump across the red platforms. At the other end, go right through the
next part of the area, ignoring the dumplings for the most part since you
need them to get across the bridge they form.
At the other side, head right and jump over the flames. You will have to
defeat a bunch of shelled enemies, as well as snails that will roll towards
you. When you reach the final three dumplings, there will be shelled enemies
atop each of them. The very last dumpling will have the goal inside.
From this stage, continue north to the seventh stage of this world.
Stage 7-5
---------
Starting off, kill the strange head enemies in the air as you head right. You
will see the guy dropping dumplings from above, but you need to be careful of
the pelicans and shooting stars as well. Defeat the pelicans as you proceed
onward, then as you take the path along a bridge of dumplings, jump to dodge
the charging hedgehog. Further ahead, take the safe upper path and jump over
another hedgehog as it approaches. Beyond that, defeat some more pelicans and
you will reach the final stretch of land. Run past the shooting stars above
and collect the first dumpling to reach the goal.
Back on the map, head north to the second area. The old man will send you to
the west, blocking your path with a giant rock this time. Play the two mini-
games ahead, then go ahead to the fourth stage.
Stage 7-6
---------
From the start, go right and jump over the stone enemies as you make your way
up the steps formed by dumplings. Jump onto the red platform below and move
along it as it moves to the right. When you can, jump to the next platform to
continue onward, but watch out for the floating red enemies. When you reach
the ledges at the end, you will have to jump across many flames scattered
along the various ledges. Your best bet is to time your jumps so that you
reach your target as the flame next to it is going down.
Once you make your way through this entire area with the flames (it will take
a bit of patience), jump onto the next red platform. Hop onto the next one
when you reach it, then defeat the statue head enemies as you pass above
them. When you reach the final three dumplings, the middle one will have the
stage's goal inside.
After you complete this stage, go east to a present box containing a can of
juice. Backtrack through the portals until you reach the man dressed in blue,
and he will move out of the way. You can now access the fifth stage here.
Stage 7-7
---------
Start by carefully jumping over the stone enemies as they approach you. Beat
the mouse enemy at the end, then jump across a series of small ledges,
standing at the edge of each to attack the statue heads on the following
ledges. Collect the dumplings and avoid the red floating enemies, then jump
onto the red platform and ride it to the right. When you see an opening, drop
to the ledge with the mouse enemies below and defeat them, then continue
onward.
Jump across the small ledges, then jump over the first flame and land on the
lower ledge. Ahead, collect the dumplings, then wait for the flame to go down
before jumping over it safely. Do this to get through the area, then ride the
red platform ahead. Defeat the statue heads, then hop from the red platform
to the high ledge to the right. Defeat the mouse enemies ahead, then collect
the three dumplings in the air so you can jump safely to the next ledge. Up
ahead, avoid the red floating enemies as you jump from ledge to ledge. At the
end of the area, the final dumpling will have the goal in it.
After you beat the level, go into the final portal ahead. When you reappear,
go left to the man in blue. You will then have to do battle with him in a
boxing-style match. He will move around with his gloves covering his face,
which he will lower just before performing an attack. That is the only time
you can damage him by jumping to attack his head. Avoid the waves being sent
your way during each attack, and attack three times to win. You can also jump
from the poles at the side to jump over the enemy.
Once the battle is over, go north and rescue the girl inside of the building.
Watch the scene and you will move on to the next world.
=======
World 8
=======
In this world, the stages all appear as present boxes. They are not numbered,
but your goal is in the northeast corner of the map, so no matter what way
you go, you must make it through at least four stages. The fourth stage is to
the right of where you begin, and the ninth stage is to the north.
Stage 8-1
---------
In this stage, go right and jump between the two flames. Hop when the snail
rolls past, then hop to the right as the flames go down. To trap the next two
snails, collect the dumplings below to form pits, then let them roll into
them. Grab the dumplings and take the lower path, then run to the right when
the flame at the end goes down. Further along, defeat the mouse enemies and
jump over the snails. When you reach the series of ledges with flames and
dumplings between them, cautiously go one step at a time to be safe. Get
through more mice and snails, then you will see the final three dumplings
with flames below them. The middle dumpling has the stage's goal inside.
After you beat this level, go east to the second stage.
Stage 8-2
---------
In this underwater level, there really isn't a whole lot to worry about as
you head through the stage. You can swim in any direction and attack/kill
everything you meet, from the shelled enemies to the fish. Collect the
dumplings along the way and maneuver to avoid the fish that move up and down
if you are not in the right position to kill them. When navigating the more
narrow passages, line up with the enemy fish so you can kill them easily.
When you make it to the very end, the final dumpling will have your goal.
Stage 8-3
---------
Starting off, avoid the red floating enemies and head right through the first
area. Jump over the flames and stone enemies while defeating the mouse
enemies along the way. When you reach the first set of statue heads, jump
between them and the flame carefully and attack to defeat them. Go right past
the stone enemy and evade the red enemies as you progress further. When you
reach more mouse enemies, defeat them, then collect the three dumplings in
the air to be able to safely jump across the gap. Up ahead, you will see the
final dumplings; the middle one has the goal.
From this stage, go directly south to the second stage.
Stage 8-4
---------
In this cavernous stage, you will have to deal with stone and mouse enemies,
as well as hopping bird enemies. The stage is very straightforward with
barriers made out of dumplings separating each segment of the stage. Simply
defeat/stun the enemies in each quadrant and continue onward. At the very
end, avoid the red floating enemy and collect the final dumpling to reach the
goal.
After you beat this stage, go directly east to the fifth stage.
Stage 8-5
---------
In this stage, go right and defeat the mouse enemies at the start. For most
of the remainder of the stage, you need to hop between the moving red
platforms to avoid falling into the pit below. When you reach the path made
out of dumplings, avoid riding the next red platform through it; that way you
can kill the statue head enemies as they fall more easily. At the other end
of the dumpling path, jump across the next bunch of red platforms. At the
very end, jump and defeat the statue heads at the edge, and defeat more mouse
enemies ahead. When you reach the final dumplings, the very last one is the
goal.
From this stage, go east to the sixth level.
Stage 8-6
---------
For this stage, go up the steps made out of dumplings, and continue onward.
You will deal with blue hippos that won't move, so you can either jump over
them or collect the dumplings below them to drop the hippos into the water.
There are plenty of hopping bird enemies, as well as red squids that shoot
ink balls that jump out of the water. Kill all of the birds as you progress,
then when you reach the red squids, ride the red platform to the right while
jumping to avoid the crossfire when possible. At the other end, jump to the
ground and collect the first of the final three dumplings to complete the
stage.
After you beat this stage, go north to the eighth level.
Stage 8-7
---------
Starting off, jump to the top of the icy structure and head right, jumping
over the stone enemies along the way. When you reach the red platforms, ride
them to the right, jumping to the next one when possible. Defeat the mouse
enemies on the low platforms, then stand at the edge of one of the platforms
to defeat the statue heads stacked on the next ledge. There are more red
platforms to get across, then you will reach the final three dumplings; the
last one contains the goal.
From this stage, go directly east and you will find an empty present box.
Beyond it, go east to the third stage. Directly south of the empty present
box is the first stage.
Stage 8-8
---------
Starting off, go right and defeat the enemies you encounter. When you reach
the flowers that spit fireballs into the air, jump to the right to avoid the
first one and trigger the second one. Quickly collect the dumplings so you
have a safe spot to stand before the next attack. Standing next to the flower
buds is the safest spot for this part.
Ahead, jump across more dumplings and red platforms until you reach the
flying carpets. Jump on and ride them to the right, then defeat the worms
that crawl along the path. At the end of this platform, jump to the dumpling
above a small ledge below. Collect it to become invincible, then quickly jump
across the next several dumplings and defeat the enemies if you want. Hop
across some more red platforms, then when you reach the final dumplings,
collect them to reach the goal.
Once you beat this stage, you will be in the northeast corner of the map. All
that's left to do is to go north to the woman. You will sing happy birthday
to her, and then the game will be complete. Congratulations!
Stage 8-9
---------
In this stage, you will have to deal with the giant elephant enemies floating
upward from certain ledges, then dropping downward to crush anything beneath
them. Along the way, there are also bird enemies that drop rocks below them,
but you can kill them easily. You will need to time your jumps and movements
so you can pass under the elephants and get to the following ledge before you
end up being crushed. At the end of the stage, the center dumpling contains
the goal.
After you complete this stage, the seventh level is directly to the north.
