La Salle Ishii no Child's Quest, or simply Child's Quest, is a rather unique
RPG for the Famicom. The story follows three girls and their manager (you) as
they travel across Japan in an attempt to become a highly popular performance
group. Instead of fighting enemies, you flatter/charm them to become more
popular and earn money to improve the girls' appearances. The gameplay
culminates in performing concerts at six venues throughout the country, then
finishing up with a performance in the legendary Tokyo Hall. The game plays
much like Dragon Quest with regard to the menus and the general pace, but I
found this game to be a lot of fun. It also gets easier once you are strong
enough and know where the most fruitful opponents can be found. Speeding it
up with an emulator also helps a ton. It is worth checking out!

========
Pre-Game
========
On the title screen, you will have two options (Start and Continue). For
both options, you will first be asked to enter a four-character name for your
character (the manager). If you chose to Continue, you will then go to a
screen where you can enter a 24-character password. If you enter the correct
password, or start a new game, the game will commence.
========
Gameplay
========
As you would expect, this game is played from a top-down perspective. All
actions are done through a command screen, which appears when you press A.
Those commands are as follows:
Speak (はなす): Talk to someone in directly front of you.
Manager Powers (まほう): View/use your Manager Powers.
Item (もちもの): View your items, and Use (つかう) or Throw Away (すてる).
Check (しらべる): Check the space you are currently standing on.
There is no battery save in this game; you need to use passwords to save your
progress. To get a password, you need to return to the manager's office in
Shibucha (the first town in Tokyo) and talk to the man on the bottom floor.
The password saves your current level, stats, and your inventory. If you
press the Start button during the game, you can see more detailed stats,
including your current equipment, concerts you've completed, and so on.
There are a few other stats pertaining to the girls that you need to be aware
of. Each girl has her own stress level, signified by a percentage. Sometimes
the opponents will anger a girl directly, causing that value to rise. If a
girl hits 100%, she will run away, causing you all to return to a hidden room
in the manager's office in Shibucha and get her back. You can alleviate this
stress level by eating at restaurants in town or using a certain Manager
Power once you are at a high enough level.
Throughout your travels, one of the girls may randomly pop up on the screen
and tell you they need to urinate. From that point, each step you take raises
their stress by 1%. Using the Diaper item will resolve the urination status
right away, as will another Manager Power later.
Finally, certain opponents in battle may "poison" the manager. When this
happens, your MP will be blocked (どく) and thus no Manager Powers can be
used. You can cure this by using a Mambo Drink item. You will want to have a
few of them handy at all times since you don't want to be far from town and
get poisoned with no way to remove it!
===================
City/Town Landmarks
===================
Concert Hall: Usually a building with two rounded halves on the roof and an
open door.
Department Store: Taller building with a white sign and orange text. It sells
the equipment for the girls.
Inn: Building with yellow/orange icon above door. Pay to sleep to recover
HP/MP. All options do the same thing, but at higher levels, the girls
will become angry and you'll get sent back to Shibucha if you don't use
the pricier options.
Namco Mart: Building with a "7" icon above the door. This is your standard
convenience store where cheap items can be bought.
Police: Usually the left doorway attached to the department store. You can
use the toilet, or perform a Campaign concert (see below).
Restaurant: Building with a blue food icon above the door. Pay to eat, which
reduces the girls' stress levels to 0%. All food options do the
same thing, but at higher levels, the girls will become angry and
you'll get sent back to Shibucha if you don't use the pricier
options.
========
Concerts
========
Storyline Concerts
------------------
One major facet of this game is the need for your three girls, the Childs
group, to perform concerts throughout Japan. The whole point is that your
group performs in six different concert halls in order to have a chance to
perform in the biggest hall in Tokyo. At said concerts, you can choose songs
and short plays to perform, or simply talk to the audience:
Talk (トーク)
Short Play (コント)
Song (うた)
The further down the list a song or play is, the more potent its effect will
be on the audience. Speaking of the audience, the number of people who turn
up at a concert depends on your current level, as well as your Charm stat.
Thus, it is a good idea to be at a higher level to have a better chance of
selling out a particular venue, plus you will have stronger songs/plays to
perform for an easier victory. Here is a guideline of what level you should
be at for each venue:
Shibucha (Tokyo): Level 18
Fukebukuro (Tokyo): Level 27
Mentaiko: Level 18
Naniwan: Level 21
Shachipoko: Level 23
Pororo: Level 25
Before your performance, you will need to pay 5000 Yen for the chance to use
that hall. At each concert, you will be given 120 seconds to win the audience
over. The recommended approach is to alternate between Songs and Plays,
starting with the last ones on each list (since they will yield greater
points). Do not use the same material twice, since you will get a very
minimal result and that can be the difference between success and failure. If
you win, the concert will end instantly and you will gain an additional 8
Charm points. Once you win at a given hall, you can not perform there again.
Campaigns
---------
In addition to the main concert halls above, you can perform a much smaller
show in most towns to win some money. You can do these by talking to the
police man in the left room attached to the Department Store, and choosing
the lower-left option. The Campaign concert is the same as the regular one
done in a hall, but you only have 60 seconds. They are meant to be practice
shows in a sense. A successful performance will win you 2000 Yen, and can be
done repeatedly.
==========
Encounters
==========
In this game, the "battles" that take place are somewhat unique in their
approach. You don't actually fight or hurt other people; the premise is that
you need to charm the person/animal you face by use of the girls' flattery.
These are your commands:
Flatter (よいしょ)
Endure (たえる)
Escape (にげる)
Manager Powers (まほう)
Item (どうぐ)
Instead of Attack/Defend, you have Flatter/Endure. The opponent attacks by
use of their "mean words", which lowers your HP (or Self-Respect). Run out of
HP and you will lose; this just means you return to the manager's office in
Shibucha with no apparent penalty.
If you deplete the opponent's HP (or Conceitedness), you will have won the
encounter and receive Popularity Points (experience) and Yen as a result.
Gaining enough Popularity allows you to gain levels, which of course boosts
your statistics. Your attack/defense stats are self-explanatory, but the
Charm stat affects how many people you can draw to your concerts (more on
that above). You need MP to use the various Manager Powers, which you also
learn by gaining levels. The maximum level is 32, and you can find the full
experience chart below.

============
Introduction
============
When you start a new game, you will first get to choose the name of the
manager, who is your character per se. After that, read through a bit of
dialogue where you are introduced to the game's premise, as well as the three
girls in the Childs (チャイルズ) group you will manage. Once you are through
all of the dialogue, the game itself will begin.
===================
Shibucha (シブチャ)
===================
When you gain control, you will be outside of your (the manager's) room
inside a house. Go down the nearby stairs, then head south to exit the house.
Now that you are outside, you can explore the rest of the town. You have no
money yet, so visiting the various establishments is pointless for now, so
exit the town to the south.
==============
Tokyo (ときお)
==============
You are now outside in Tokyo itself. When wandering around outside of town,
random enemy encounters will occur. For now, you will want to wander around
in the grassy area near Shibucha and earn some money, as well as level up a
bit. If you run low on HP, enter Shibucha and rest at the Inn (building in
southwest with a blue sign with a brown/yellow icon); the 100 Yen option
works well enough. There are two major gameplay facets to briefly note here:
if while walking around a dialogue containing an upset girl appears, she will
need to urinate, so buy a Diaper (かみおむつ) and use it on that girl. If you
see the poison status (どく) next to your MP value in battle, you need to buy
a Mambo Drink (まんぼドリンク). Finally, if any of the percentages for the
girls is above 0%, they need to eat; pay to have some food in town to solve
that.
Once you reach Level 4 (you also learn your first Manager Power at this level
which lets you warp to previously visited towns), you will not only have a
good amount of money, but will be ready to progress. You can enter Shibucha
and buy some new equipment for the girls now, or you can save your Yen and
wait until the next town to buy a powerful infinite-use item; it's up to you
but said item will be extremely useful in ending battles quickly as you meet
stronger foes.
Anyway, from Shibucha, head eastward to the next open area with a building on
the corner. Go south from that building and take the first path to the east
at the intersection. When you come to a grassy patch, continue east and to
the south along the path until you reach the next town, Kamanta. If you have
14800 Yen, go ahead and enter town.
==================
Kamanta (かまんた)
==================
Here, go to the shop and buy the Sesame Mortar (ゴマすりばち) for 14800 Yen.
It can be used an infinite number of times in battle as a strong attack for
this point in the game, ending most battles in the region with one hit. Once
you buy that item, exit town.
==============
Tokyo (ときお)
==============
Head east from Kamanta and you will spot the airport in the southeast. This
area has tougher enemies who also yield more Yen, so you will want to spend
a bit of time training here. Wander around this area until you make it to
Level 7 so you learn a Manager Power that recovers HP. At this point, warp
back to Shibucha and rest at the Inn. Be sure to restock on diapers and Anman
while you are here. When you are ready, exit town to reach the city proper.
You will notice a yellow path surrounding the perimeter of Tokyo. Stepping
onto it will lead outside of the city altogether, so do that.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Out here on the true overworld, you will face even tougher enemies that can
seriously damage you if you are not careful. That is why it's important for
you to have Anmans in stock, or more importantly, the Enema power you get at
Level 7. The best approach is to use the Sesame Mortar exclusively to win
battles, then use the Enema power to recover immediately after battle. From
Tokyo, head north and eastward through the forest to find another town next
to a cave. Enter that town.
=======================
Echigorasu (えちごらす)
=======================
In this town, go to the shop right away if you have 9800 Yen. Buy the
Persimmon Seed (かきのたね), then rest at the Inn next door if necessary.
With that done, use the Warp Manager Power to return to Tokyo; enter the city
and warp to Kamanta next.
From this town, you will notice a lone building to the northwest. That is the
Namco Building, so enter it.
=========================
Namco Building (ニャムコ)
=========================
When you enter this building, take the middle path to the west. At the end,
go up the stairs to 2F. Take the center path across next, then on 3F ahead,
follow the southern path back to the west. Heading up to 4F, take the south
path to the east end where you will find a room. Go inside and talk to the
president of the building. Give him the Persimmon Seed and he will give you
the Gowasu Ticket (ごわすのきっぷ).
Now, warp out of here and return to Kamanta, then head east to the airport.
===============================
Hameda Airport (はめだくうこう)
===============================
At the airport, pick Gowasu (ごわす) from the list of flights (it is the
first option with a status to the right of it). You will go to a screen
showing the plane and music will play as the flight progresses. Once you land
on the ground, enter Gowasu.
===============
Gowasu (ごわす)
===============
Here in Gowasu, you can upgrade the girls' equipment if you can afford it, as
well as some more supplies. When you are done in town, exit.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Outside, follow the forest to the north, east, and south to a gray building.
This is a very good area to fight and gain experience quickly, so I would
recommend sticking around here until you reach Level 12 or so. One major
secret that will help though: at the south end of the peninsula, you will see
two squares of forest. Stand in the left square and use the Check (しらべる)
command, and you will fully recover your HP/MP for free!
Once you are leveled up enough, you will be strong enough to proceed to the
north where even tougher enemies roam. To the north, cross the bridge and
continue northward along the narrow hilly path until the area opens up. To
the west is another gray building with a girl inside, but you don't need to
see her at this time. Head east to find a patch of dirt surrounded by trees;
if you stand in it and Check it, you will find another HP/MP recovery place.
From here, go northwest to Mentaiko.
=====================
Mentaiko (めんたいこ)
=====================
In this larger city, you will be able to eat to clear up your percentages, as
well as buy more supplies. The main place to visit is south and east of the
entrance, in a secluded house. Inside, talk to the man and agree to take his
quiz. When you get to the screen where you have to enter something, this is
the solution:
ちくわのあな
Enter it correctly and finish (おわる), and the man will be happy. He will
give you the Purple Oil (パープルオイル), the first of seven rainbow oils, as
a reward. Once you have that, you will want to go to the shop and buy some
Slap Machines (ねこだマシン); when used in battle, you will escape instantly.
This is necessary for the tougher areas ahead. After that, exit town.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Outside once again, head across the bridge to the east and you will face even
tougher enemies. Follow the mountain line to the east and there will be a
point where you can either head south across two bridges or continue eastward
along a narrow path. The southern path leads to a small town called Iyo, but
there is not much going on there at all. So, continue east and south to a
much larger city.
==================
Naniwan (なにわん)
==================
In this city, you can once again upgrade your equipment if you want to do so.
The main purpose of entering the city is so you can warp here again. When you
are done resting and eating, it's time to head out of here.
============
Japan (日本)
============
From Naniwan, there are a couple of places you can go. For right now, head
northward through the forest to the right of the mountains. Follow that path
all the way north and west to a gray building. Enter it and you will find a
girl inside who wants to give you a 10-question quiz. You can choose either
false (うそ) or true (ほんと) for each question. Here are the answers:
1. True
2. True
3. False
4. True
5. True
6. False
7. False
8. True
9. False
10. False
Answer all ten questions correctly and you will be warped to the Sky Castle.
===========================
Sky Castle (てんくうのしろ)
===========================
The castle here consists of a single room, but the enemies are tough. If you
want to avoid fights, you can use Slap Machines if you bought any earlier.
Once you make it around the path to the center, enter the room and talk to
the girl inside to receive the Green Oil (グリーンオイル). After that, warp
to Naniwan to exit.
After resting in Naniwan, you will want to start progressing to the south.
Make sure you have several Slap Machines in your inventory first. Follow the
mountain line to the south and east, then northward around the bend. Ignore
the cave to the west for now as you continue eastward to some hills. From
there, go south and west to another city.
=======================
Shachipoko (しゃちぽこ)
=======================
Here, you will be able to enjoy a well-deserved rest. Buy some more Slap
Machines if you ran out, upgrade your equipment if you can afford to do so,
and be sure to eat/rest. Otherwise, head on out; we will return later.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Since you are near the city, you can earn a lot of money easily just outside;
just fight the Iron Ball enemies. They drop over 12000 Yen per battle and
give 102 POP points, which will enable you to afford upgrades very quickly
(save states are useful for this approach if you are not playing on a real
cartridge). It is also a great area to level up; going up to Level 17-18 is
essential before proceeding. It may be safer to level up outside of Naniwan,
but the choice is yours.
When you feel like you are strong enough, first rest up in town. Then, head
directly east of Shachipoko until you hit the mountains. At that point, go
directly northward through the forest until you see four mountains in the
S-formation at the north shore. Stand two spaces south of the leftmost
mountain, then perform a Check in that space to find the Asekusa Ticket
(あせくさのきっぷ). Warp back to town to rest up after this ordeal.
Now, if you are around Level 18, you should check out the cave northwest of
Shachipoko.
=========================================
NW Shachipoko Cave (北西しゃちぽこの洞窟)
=========================================
When you enter this cave, simply follow the spiral path around to the stairs
in the middle. There are two types of enemies you will face and they are
tough, so you may want to have some Slap Machines handy and keep your HP up
if you choose to fight instead. On the second level, continue until you reach
a doorway at the very end of the path. Inside, you will see a jar, which you
will steal. It is the Octopus Jar (シガラミのつぼ), and the octopus in the
house in Naniwan will want it. Before you do that though exit the cave and
head back to Shachipoko.
Once you are by the city again, go south and east to find a cave. If you
Check in the southeast corner of forest south of the cave, you will recover
your HP/MP free of charge! Now, enter the cave.
==============================
Hakome Tunnel (はこめトンネル)
==============================
In this cave, you will find much weaker enemies thankfully. In the middle of
the path is a room with a police officer standing nearby. Enter the room and
take the Bright Ball (ひかるのたま) inside. As a note, if you take the east
exit out of the cave, you will emerge just outside of Tokyo. However, if you
reenter the cave from the Tokyo side, the officer inside will block your path
(this is meant to prevent you from reaching the tougher enemies too early in
the game, of course).
Once you are done here, first warp to Mentaiko and head east, then south all
the way to Iyo.
==========
Iyo (いよ)
==========
In this small, out of the way village, enter the house in the back. Talk to
the girl inside and give her the Bright Ball, and she will reward you with
the Orange Oil (オレンジオイル). Now that you have three of the rainbow oils,
exit town and warp over to Naniwan.
==================
Naniwan (なにわん)
==================
Here, first rest up at the Inn, then head over to the shop and enter the
house next door. Inside is the octopus, who wants the Octopus Jar. Give it to
him and he will want to sell you the Blue Oil for 1000000 Yen. You are given
the option to accept the offer amount or choose the second option to haggle
down the price. If you haggle, you have to fight the octopus. Beat it and the
price will be roughly halved, then you are given an offer to pay that price
instead. Be careful since the octopus also gets stronger as the price gets
lower.
The lowest you can go is 5000 Yen, followed by getting the Blue Oil for free!
However, you will need to be at a much higher level to win the final match.
It's really up to you how much you want to spend. Make your choice and buy or
win the Blue Oil (ブルーオイル) from the octopus, then rest up. While you are
in Naniwan, go to the shop and buy the White Oil (ホワイトオイル) for 10000
Yen. When you are done, warp back to Tokyo, then to Kamanta, and enter the
airport to the east.
===============================
Hameda Airport (はめだくうこう)
===============================
Since you now have the ticket, select Asekusa (あせくさ) from the list and
you will fly away on a plane. Upon landing, enter the new town which is
actually located in the eastern half of Tokyo.
==================
Asekusa (あせくさ)
==================
In this small town, you can rest at the Inn near the entrance. At the back of
the village, you will find a man in a house who can make you a special item
if you collect all of the rainbow oils. Since you don't have them yet, he is
of course not able to help you. So, head out of town.
==============
Tokyo (ときお)
==============
In the eastern half of the city, there will be new locations for you to
visit, including Suppongi (すっぽんぎ). From Asekusa, go all the way west
until you reach a bridge to the south; remember where this is as it is an
intersection of sorts. If you go south across the bridge, you can continue
east, south, and west to Suppongi in the middle of an enclosed field.
=====================
Suppongi (すっぽんぎ)
=====================
It is important you visit the restaurant in Suppongi, and eat the Rice Bowl
(ちらしずし). If you have the White Oil in your possession, it will turn into
the Red Oil (レッドオイル), which you do need. Also in Suppongi, you can buy
the Star Dress for 900000 Yen; do not do this of course. There is also a
building outside of the town, but you can ignore it for now. Be sure to rest
up before leaving town.
==============
Tokyo (ときお)
==============
Anyway, if you go north from the bridge west of Asekusa and follow the path
northwest, then west and south, you will spot a tower you can enter. To the
west of it is another town, Fukebukuro (ふけぶくろ). It is worthwhile to
visit since you will then be able to warp here again later, plus you can buy
better equipment. Also in Fukebukuro, you can buy the Marching Drum item
(よいしょのたいこ) for 49800 Yen, which is an infinite-use item which can be
used as a strong attack on enemies going forward. It is useful if you are not
leveled up enough to attack for ~100 HP per round.
If you go east from Asekusa, you can exit Tokyo and explore the area east of
the river to level up a bit. It is highly recommended that you get up to at
least Level 23-25 before proceeding (you can do so east of Tokyo or in the
area south of Shachipoko, your choice). When you are ready to continue, warp
to Shibucha in Tokyo, then follow the path going east and north to a lone
building; go inside the TV station there.
============================
Funifuni TV (ふにふにテレビ)
============================
When you enter this TV station, head south and follow the path westward. At
the opposite end, go north and take the first path going east. Go directly
north at the other side and follow the path to some stairs; go up them to 2F.
Up there, go south and west at the split, then at the next split, go east.
Head around the corner and go west at the following intersection, and proceed
all the way to the stairs leading to 3F.
On the top floor, go west and south when you can. Along the west side, go
south and take the bottom path going eastward. Follow it to a room at the
end and go inside. Talk to the TV station's president to receive the
Certificate (おすみつき).
Now that you have the Certificate, you can participate in a swim race on the
bottom floor of this building. So, head back downstairs (or warp out to
Shibucha and walk over again). From the building entrance, there are two
rooms you can enter. Enter the north room and the TV producer will allow you
to enter the swim race. For this race, you are in the top lane, and must tap
the A button repeatedly to swim across. Win the race and you will receive the
Hawaii Ticket (はわいのきっぷ). As a note, if you are NOT at least Level 19,
you may not actually receive the ticket!
Once you have the ticket, warp to Kamanta and head east to the airport.
===============================
Hameda Airport (はめだくうこう)
===============================
For your third visit to the airport, choose Hawaii (はわい) from the list;
you will find it at the bottom. After the flight, you will land on the island
of Hawaii.
===============
Hawaii (はわい)
===============
Following your landing, you will be in front of the city of Honyolulu. There
is nothing really to do here unless you need to rest/eat or buy simple
supplies. Starting off on the island, go south and east across the island.
When you encounter either of the two enemies, use Manager Powers as your
regular attacks will not be effective. In the southeast area, stand on the
dirt patch and Check it to obtain a Banana Skin (バナナのかわ).
If you continue to the southwest end, you will find a building with a frog
inside. When you are ready to leave, warp back to Tokyo, then enter the city
and warp to Fukebukuro. From there, go east and north and enter the tower.
===================================
Fukebukuro Tower (ふけぶくろのとう)
===================================
In this tower, you will face tough enemies, but the path upward is quite
straightforward. Each floor is a small room with the stairs set pretty close
to where you arrive on each level. When you reach the top level, you will
find a room you can enter. Inside, a boy will offer to sell you various oils
for 100000 Yen. The only one you can actually buy is the second option, the
Yellow Oil (イエローオイル). He will only sell it if you have the Banana Skin
that you found in Hawaii, so give it up to receive the oil.
After you buy it, warp back to Asekusa and rest up, then exit Tokyo to the
east.
============
Japan (日本)
============
From Tokyo, head directly east to find a cave. If you are at least Level 23
(preferably higher), go ahead and enter it.
===============================
Sendain Cave (せんだいんの洞窟)
===============================
Inside this maze of a cave, start by going directly to the east. At the first
intersection, go south and west. Follow that path to the west, south, and
east to another split. Go north, west briefly, then north and east again.
Simply follow the path the rest of the way and you will find some stairs; go
up them to exit at the other end of the cave.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Back outside, continue heading east to spot the town of Sendain. Enter it so
you can warp back here later, then rest up before continuing onward. From
Sendain, head northeast and you will find a small pond surrounded by trees.
There are two paths you can take from here. If you go west, you will find a
small building with a man inside. To the north of that building is some sand
along the shore. Check the space two steps north of the building to find a
secret recovery point! If you also Check the second beach space from the
north, you will pick up the Beach Shroud (なぎさかたびら). It is not a good
idea to actually keep this item as it greatly increases the enemy encounter
rate. You might want to save it for late in the game when you are stronger
and ready to push to the max level.
Anyway, if you head northeast from the aforementioned pond, you will find a
second cave. Go inside that one.
====================================
Shakekan Tunnel (しゃけかんトンネル)
====================================
In here, follow the center path going northward to start. At the first path
split, continue up the middle lane. At the second intersection, take the west
path onward. There will be another split shortly, so take that one back to
the center path. Up ahead, ignore the first path leading to the left, but
take the second westbound path when you reach it. From there, just keep going
and you will reach the cave exit shortly. Once you get outside, go east to
the town of Pororo.
===============
Pororo (ぽろろ)
===============
In this town, you can eat and sleep as usual, plus you can upgrade your gear
if you so desire. After you are done here (you can warp back at any time), go
ahead and exit.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Outside again, you may want to take some time to level up if need be. You
will want to be at least Level 27, and this is a great place to train. One
good secret lies directly southward of Pororo, actually. Walk all the way
south through the forest to the southern tip along the mountains. Check the
southeast-most forest tile next to the mountains to find a hidden HP/MP
recovery spot.
When you are ready, follow the narrow forest path heading east of Pororo.
You will soon reach some snowy terrain. If you continue northeast, you will
find a house with a woman inside. The following steps are important though.
From that house, walk exactly 16 steps southward. When you reach that point,
Check and you will uncover the Indigo Oil (インディゴオイル). You should now
have all seven rainbow oils in your possession. To make sure, go to the item
menu and choose the oil option in the bottom-left; you should see seven oils
listed on that screen.
Before you continue, it is very highly recommended that you are at Level 27
so you can keep up with the next section of this walkthrough. When you are
ready, warp to Tokyo and enter it, then warp to Asekusa.
==================
Asekusa (あせくさ)
==================
Here, enter the northeast house and talk to the man inside. Now that you have
all seven oils, he will make you something by using them. It will seem like
the game has frozen, but it has not. Wait for the man to start talking again,
and you will receive the Rainbow Soap (にじのせっけん). You will then need to
bring it to an old woman elsewhere in Japan, so head out of this town, then
exit Tokyo.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Outside of the city, warp to Echigorasu. You don't need to enter the town
unless you want to rest up. From here, go through the short cave nearby, and
you will emerge on the island. Enter the building there and talk to the old
woman inside. After you exit, go back in and talk to the woman a second time.
Since you have the Rainbow Soap, she will make you a special device called
the Tub Boat (たらいぶね). It will appear in your item list but gets used
automatically when you try to walk on water. You will be able to float across
the sea surface, which is great for accessing both old and new areas. You can
also reach one more town, Nahaha (なはは), if you float all the way southward
from Gowasu, but it is not important that you visit.
For your first course of business, warp to Sendain, then go across the river
to the east. Head across this hilly terrain to spot a cave at the eastern
edge. If you want, you can go north to find an empty patch of land; Check it
to obtain an Amulet (おまもり). It reduces your enemy encounter rate by 50%
while you have it, but it only appears here once so if you pick it up and
throw it away, that's it. Anyway, go south and enter that cave.
=========================================
Game Center Swamp Cave (ゲーセン沼の洞窟)
=========================================
In here, head south until the first intersection, then go east and continue
heading southward. Follow the winding path and go east at the next split, and
continue north to yet another intersection. Take the westbound path, then go
north and east at the next two path splits. Up ahead, there will be two paths
leading to the south; take the left one all the way to the end (ignore the
branch to the right), and you will reach some stairs. Go down to the lower
level from here.
On this floor, the enemies will be much stronger than before. It is a good
idea to be close to Level 29-30 at this point; having a couple of Mambo
Drinks handy and high MP will surely help as well. Follow the path all the
way west and north, then go east at the first split. Go all the way east
along this path and southward, where you will find two more paths leading
northward. Take the left path to the north and all the way around a long
corridor. You will end up at the center of the room, with a door leading into
a room and an enclosed area south of it.
Inside the room is a wolf who tells you that the Star Shoes fell somewhere in
the room nearby. So, walk four steps south and one step west of the door,
then Check the ground. You will find the Star Shoes (スターのくつ) and
automatically equip them! Now that you have what you need, warp out of here
and return to Sendain.
============
Japan (日本)
============
From Sendain now, you will want to move directly east of the town. Go across
the land mass, past the cave you just explored, and onto the open sea. Far to
the east, you will find an island with a building. Go inside and talk to the
girl, who will give you directions to follow in order to spot the turtle. The
directions change each time you enter the building, so you need to pay close
attention. On the second dialog screen, two numbers will be shown, preceded
by the direction the numbers correspond to. Here are the four directions that
can be used:
East (ひがし)
North (きた)
South (みなみ)
West (にし)
With those directions in mind, exit and follow them, then Check at that
location on the water. The screen will change to a side view, and you will be
asked to move your tub to the left/right to where you think the turtle is
going to surface. Press A when you choose a position, then hope for the best.
If the turtle does not line up with you, go back to the building and get new
coordinates to try again. When you finally catch the turtle, you will receive
the Turtle Shell (かめのこうら).
With the shell in hand, warp to Tokyo and enter from the west side, then go
to Shibucha.
===================
Shibucha (しぶちゃ)
===================
Here, enter the eastern building just south of the restaurant. This is the
fortune teller's house. Talk to the man inside and you will give him the
Turtle Shell, and he will direct you to a bottle floating in the sea. With
that information, exit Shibucha and Tokyo altogether.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Back outside, make your way to the southeast with the Tub Boat. Cross the
desert terrain and get to the open sea beyond it, where you will spot a
bottle floating in the water. Check it and you will find the Old Photograph
(ふるいしゃしん) of the three girls when they were babies. Now that you have
this photo, warp to Shachipoko.
=======================
Shachipoko (しゃちぽこ)
=======================
When you enter this town, you will see a vertical row of three buildings. Go
into the southmost house and talk to the woman inside. After a long chat
including the three girls, you will receive the Past Faults (かこのあやまち).
Now, exit the town.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Now to continue, you will want to warp to Mentaiko. From there, use the Tub
Boat and sail to the east along the coast. You will find the building where
you took the quiz to access the Sky Castle earlier. North of that building is
a small island; land on it and Check to receive some Sea Water (おきんかい).
With it, warp to Pororo. From there, go east to the snow-covered terrain,
then head directly southward. You will eventually reach an island with a
small town on it. Enter that town.
==================
Nemuria (ねむりあ)
==================
In this town, you will find that most of the townspeople are asleep. Since
you have the Sea Water, enter the only house in town and talk to the man
inside. He will give you the Penpal Letter (おりのてがみ). It needs to be
delivered to a woman in Mentaiko, so warp over there now.
=====================
Mentaiko (めんたいこ)
=====================
Here, enter the house behind the restaurant. Talk to the woman inside, who
will take the letter and give you the Orichalcum (オリハルコン) in exchange.
This is the key item needed to create the Star Mike, but we have one more
thing to get first. So, warp to Echigorasu.
============
Japan (日本)
============
Outside of Echigorasu, use the Tub Boat as you head all the way northward.
You will come to a small snowy island with a building on it. Enter that
building and you will be warped to an enclosed location on the island of
Hawaii. Enter the opposite building surrounded by mountains, and the girl
inside will give you the Star Makeup (スターのメイク).
Now that you have half of the Star equipment, warp to Tokyo, then enter and
warp to Kamanta.
==================
Kamanta (かまんた)
==================
Upon your arrival, enter the house at the back of town. Talk to the old man
inside and he will give you the Star Mike (スターのマイク) in exchange for
the Orichalcum. All you need now is the Star Dress, which will take a bit
more time. First, exit Kamanta and Tokyo.
============
Japan (日本)
============
In six cities throughout the game, there will be concert halls where you can
pay the man 5000 Yen for an opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
The size of the audience depends on your level, and this varies by location
as well. I know I haven't mentioned doing the concerts until now since it's
best that you are at a high level to maximize the chances of success. Here is
a list of the six places to visit, and the recommended level you should be
prior to performing (that way you have a sellout crowd and enough songs and
dances to succeed):
Shibucha (Tokyo): Level 18
Fukebukuro (Tokyo): Level 27
Mentaiko: Level 18
Naniwan: Level 21
Shachipoko: Level 23
Pororo: Level 25
After you complete all six concerts throughout Japan, return to Tokyo and
head to Suppongi.
=====================
Suppongi (すっぽんぎ)
=====================
Here, enter the northwest house and talk to the man inside. Because you have
proven yourself, he will give you the Star Dress (スターのドレス). At last,
you will have the best equipment on the girls! While you are here, go visit
the man in the southwest house. If you are at Level 29, you will receive the
eighth and final song for your performance repertoire. Now, head out.
==============
Tokyo (ときお)
==============
With your girls fully equipped, you will now want to make sure you are at a
high enough level to proceed. Since you should be Level 29 by now, I would
say you are in great shape to finish up the game. The maximum level is 32 if
you want that added HP/MP cushion; fighting octopus enemies while on the open
sea with the Tub Boat is a good way to train. When you are ready, warp to
Fukebukuro and rest/eat up, then head all the way east, then southeast along
the tree-lined path to Tokyo Hall. When you are ready for the final stage of
the game, go inside.
=========================
Tokyo Hall (ときおホール)
=========================
Here, you will be performing your final concert of the game. Be sure to use
your best songs/dances early since they yield the most points. Once you win,
it will appear that the game is over. That is not so, since your manager will
want to battle you!
For this final battle, first use the Past Faults item in your inventory; it
will reduce his attacks by 50%. For the rest of the battle, simply use the
Endure (たえる) command each round. When your HP gets below 60HP or so, use
your strongest HP recovery Manager Power to top off again. It should take
roughly 18 rounds of endurance to finally complete this battle. After that,
watch the final scenes before the credits appear. Congratulations, you have
completed Child's Quest!
