Most people would consider that ISS started on the Super Nintendo, but it
really started life on the NES. Konami Hyper Soccer features a similar
viewpoint, large sprites and excellent gameplay for the time. Due to having
only two buttons on the NES's controller, the game is very simple but still
very addictive. Commands are lob and pass when with the ball, and slide tackle
and head when without it. When in, or just outside the box, the lob button
becomes shoot enabling volleys, flying headers and bicycle kicks that are truly
amazing for the time it was released.
There are two areas on the field, the shooting area near the opponent's goal
and the passing area within the field.
Shooting Area:
With the ball, press A or B to shoot. If you do not face the goal, A is for a
short pass and B is for a long pass. While you are no in possession of the
ball, press A when facing the goal to volley a ball in the air. If you press B
in this situation, you will perform a jumping header. Not facing the goal
without the goal results in a slide tackle, and B is for a header.
Passing Area:
While in possession of theball, press A for a short pass and B for a long pass.
When you do not have the ball, perform a slide tackle with the A button and
head an oncoming ball with B.
If the team gets the ball out of bounds at the their own goal, the other team
gets a corner kick .For the corner kicks, use A for a short kick and B for a
long kick. Use the control pad to aim. If the team kicks the ball out of bounds
at the attacking end, a goal-kick is taken by the goalkeeper.
If the ball goes out of play on the side of the field, a throw-in is awarded to
the team that did not touch the ball last. Throw-ins are done with the A button
and the desired direction.
The goalkeeper is automatically blocking shots when necessary. When he has the
ball, it is your turn for action. Press the directional keys and A for a short
throw, or kick it long with the B button.
There are six types of shots available:
A regular shot is very common. A jumping header is when a high pass comes
towards the player and is headed on. A volley show must come from a low pass
and is very effective against the opponent's goalkeeper. If your player is good
enough, he can pull off an overhead kick coming of a high pass. It does not
happen too often. Else he might also do a Bullet Shot, a very fast shot.
Lastly, a Banana Shot is when the ball curves while in the air and will bend
into the goal. The player's value must be high in this case as well.
Press START and pick the mode you wish to play by going up and down with your
controller.

PK Playoff:
You can start this mode from the main menu, but if a game is tied at the end of
time, you must decide the game with a Penalty Kick Shoot-out. Each team has 5
tried, taking turns shooting at the goal. The winner is the team with the most
goals scored. The playoff will continue with one try each should the playoff
still be tied after the first five shots.
The player needs to decide the direction, then press A to shoot. If you don't
pick any direction the shot is straight down the middle.
If you control the goalkeeper, select a direction to jump in. The goalkeeper
will only move when the ball is kicked.
