Kabushiki Doujou: The Stock Speculation is a stock market based game for
the NES/Famicom, developed and published by Hect in 1989. It's pretty simple
to play once you understand the menu options, and will take you about 10
minutes to play through with the help of this guide. It will take you longer
to read this guide than to play the game.
The game has a martial arts theme as you will see when the dojo master
greets you at the beginning. He makes frequent appearances to give you
useless advice. Otherwise, it's just like any other stock market game: buy
stocks and hope they increase in value so you can sell them for a profit.
The reason this game is so short and easy is because the stock values
are not random. If you play the game twice, the same trends will occur. So I
uploaded some charts as separate files to gamefaqs so that you can refer to
them to see which stocks are about to rise and such. But note, if you start a
second game after winning or losing the first one, the charts will change to
a new set of charts that I did not upload. If you reset the game, they will
still be the new charts. To get the original charts back, turn the Famicom
power off and back on (or close your emulator and restart it).

---Getting Started-----------------------------------------------------------
When you start the game, choose whether to start a new game or load a saved
game:
さいしょから - "From beginning"
まえの つづきから - "Continue previous"
When you start a new game, you will be asked to choose a message speed. 1 is
the fastest and 5 is the slowest. I recommend choosing the fastest.
You will then get a lecture from the dojo master about how you need to
achieve the "Pro" ranking. You will then choose a difficulty level from the
following options:
初級 - "Elementary level"
Beginning money: 1000万円.
Goal money: 1200万円 yen.
Time: 1 year and 6 months.
中級 - "Intermediate level"
Beginning money: 2000万円.
Goal money: 2600万円.
Time: 1 year and 3 months.
上級 - "Advanced level"
Beginning money: 3000万円.
Goal money: 4200万円.
Time: 1 year.
セミプロ級 - "Semipro level"
Beginning money: 4000万円.
Goal money: 6000万円.
Time: 9 months.
プロ級 - "Pro level"
Beginning money: 5000万円.
Goal money: 9000万円.
Time: 6 months.
The only difference between the difficulty levels is how much money you start
with, how much money you need to win to achieve your goal, and how much time
you have to do it. If you use my charts, then even the "Pro" level will be
easy. You have to win on pro in order to get the best ending.
To win, you must achieve the goal amount of money within the specified time
limit. You must also buy stocks from at least three different companies. I'm
not sure why the three companies rule, but if you don't do it, you will not
beat the game, even if you achieve the goal amount. Also, to be clear, the
goal amount is the total amount of wealth you need to have, so if you start
with 5000万円, and the goal is 9000万円, you only need to gain 4000万円.
---Main Menu-----------------------------------------------------------------
Once the game begins, you will be taken to the main menu. A description of
everything on this screen is given below.
In the bottom window, you see a summary of all the stocks you own and your
current assets:
残高 - "Balance". Total wealth, including cash and stock values.
現金 - "Money in hand". Money you can spend to buy stocks.
株券 - "Stock certificates". Amount of value your stocks are worth.
持株 - "Owned stocks". Names of stocks you own.
平均買値 - "Average purchased price". Average amount you paid for this stock.
終値 - "Closing price". Current value of the stock.
株数 - "Number of stocks". Number of shares you own.
In the upper-left window is shown the date and number of weeks you have to
win the game:
#月#日 - The date. 月 = month, 日 = day.
のこり #しゅう - "# weeks remaining".
The upper-right window has your command options:
注目めいがら - "Observe brands". See information about the stock companies.
次のしゅうへ - "To the next week". End this turn and proceed to the next week.
かい - "Buy". Buy stocks.
うり - "Sell". Sell stocks.
Each of these commands is explained in its own section below, except for the
"to the next week" option. This one simply advances the game forward by one
week. Your stock values will be updated, and your total wealth accordingly.
Press "Select" to be given the option to save your game. Choose はい ("yes")
to save, or いいえ ("no") to not. If you save, you will be forced to reset the
game if you want to keep playing (there is only a "save and quit" option, but
no "save and continue" option).
---Observing Brands----------------------------------------------------------
On this screen, you will see a list of all the 10 companies that you can buy
stocks from. Their names are shown on the left side of the screen (and a
letter to label them, i.e. company "A"), and the following information is
shown for each company:
Current value Change from previous week Yield
The "Yield" value is meaningless for you. The change from previous week value
is important since you are hoping that the values of any stocks you own will
increase.
To see more information about a company, select the company and press "A".
You will be taken to a new screen with a chart showing the values of the
stock for each week during the past year. I mentioned previously that these
charts are not random. However, it IS random where you start within the
chart's timeline, so locate your current position relative to the charts I
made if you want to use them. Note, red data points indicate a rise in stock
value, and white indicates a fall. Notice that the y-axis has different
values for different stocks.
If you own any of the stock shown, in the upper-left window will be shown the
average value of the stocks you have purchased (へきん かいね) and the number
of stocks you own (もち株すう). In the upper-right window is shown the
following commands:
つぎ - "Next". Show the next company's chart.
データ - "Data". Show this company's statistics.
かい - "Buy". Buy stocks.
うり - "Sell". Sell stocks.
If you select to see the company's statistics, a list of the following values
will be shown in place of the chart (to see the chart again, select the
チャート - "Chart" option):
資本金 - "Capital stock"
前期1株益 - "First term stock gains"
年初来高値 - "Year beginning highest value"
終値 - "Closing price". Current stock value.
決算期 - "Accounting period"
今期1株益(予) - "Estimated current term stock gains"
年初来安値 - "Year beginning lowest value"
予想PER - "Estimated PER"
I didn't find any of these values necessary to pay any attention to. Just the
stock's growth chart.
---Buying Stocks-------------------------------------------------------------
When you choose to buy stocks, you will see a window at the bottom of the
screen telling you the price per share (on the left), and your current cash
in hand on the right. Note, your cash is shown in units of 10000 yen (so
multiply the value shown by 10000), but the price per share is simply in yen.
In the top window, set how many shares you want to purchase using the
direction arrows. Note, the number of shares is given in 1000 shares. After
setting a number of shares, choose はい ("yes") to confirm the purchase.
There is a 1% handling fee for purchasing stocks, so if you are purchasing
stocks for a total of 5,300,000 yen, you will be charged a fee of 53,000 yen.
A summary screen will show your purchase, showing you the following values:
Company name
Number of stocks purchased (in units of 1000)
Value of one share of the stock
Total cost to purchase the stocks
Handling fee
Total amount of money deducted
---Selling Stocks------------------------------------------------------------
When you select to sell stocks, you will see a screen showing all of the
stocks you own. Select one and press "A" to sell it.
You'll be taken to a new window where you will set the number of shares you
want to sell. At the bottom of the screen, you will see how many shares you
own. There is a 1.5% handling fee for selling stocks.
A summary screen will show your sale, showing you the following values:
Company name
Number of stocks sold (in units of 1000)
Value of one share of the stock
Total amount gained from sale
Handling fee
Total amount of money acquired after fee deduction

When you achieve the goal amount (assuming you have bought stocks from at
least 3 companies), the game will immediately end. The dojo master will
appear to congratulate you. If you did not win on the "Pro" level, he will
tell you that you need to win on pro. He'll show you his daughter and say
he'll let you marry her if you win on pro. If you win on pro, you will indeed
get to marry his daughter. He'll also give you his dojo. Of course he wants
his daughter to marry you, you're freakin rich!!
