awkward game that is Muppet Adventure "Chaos at the Carnival" and don't know
what you're doing and are completely frustrated, I hope I can help with this
guide. This game may look like it's for kids, but trust me, if I had kids I
would most likely be using this game as punishment.

3. Characters [CHAR]
========================
Taken straight from the manual:
MISS PIGGY: Our heroine is the complete woman...
a femme fatale... a coquette and a gorgeously groomed
karate expert with a left hook that can pulverize a rock.
The great loves of her life are a show business career
and a frog. The demonic Dr. Grump has had his sights
set on Miss Piggy for years as a new carnival attraction.
He thinks he finally has her captive...
KERMIT: Manages to be urbane, boyish, witty and
harassed at the same time, Kermit is a fine example of
just how far a frog can go in show business. Even
though our hero has his "problems" with Miss Piggy,
he is more that willing to lead the band of rescuers.
After all, what would his life be like with the
fabolous Miss P? The Raging River Ride tempts
his fate!
FOZZIE BEAR: The lovable, ear-wiggling comic who
wants to be funny. His insecurities are enormous; and
however good his intentions, his well-rehearsed
routines always backfire. Those dogged barkers in the
Fun House just love chasing him through the ice cream
sodas of life.
ANIMAL: A wild and uninhibited guy who wants what
he wants and wants it now! His behaviour may
sometimes wreak havoc, but he is innocent at heart.
He just likes to have lots of loud fun. The Crash Car
Course is the perfect challenge for Animal.
THE GREAT GONZO: Hooked-nose Gonzo, is always
striving for stardom; nothing is too risky or ridiculous
when it comes to his repetoire of stupendous stunts.
The Lost in Space Ride is perfect for this daredevil
Only Gonzo could muster the courage and reckless
abandon to complete this space mission.
(not from the manual, but...)
THE EVIL DR. GRUMP: He has taking Miss Piggy captive to
star in his carnival as another sideshow. Though Kermit and
the gang plan on rescuing Miss Piggy, Dr. Grump and his
Grumpasaurus have other plans for them.
4. Walkthrough [WLK]
=========================
STARTING THE GAME (from manual)
The evil Dr. Grump and his monster, the Grumpasaurus, have
kidnapped Miss Piggy. Kermit and his Muppet pals arrive on the
carnival grounds to rescue her. Miss Piggy has left a trail of helpful
hints - her personal possessions - that the Muppets can retrieve along
the way. The rescuers split up to conquer the four diabolical carnival
rides devised by Dr. Grump. Each Muppet must successfully complete
his ride to obtain a key and help Kermit rise to Dr. Grump's final
challenge. Once all four keys are in Kermit's possession, he can unlock
Dr. Grump's cave and fight the ultimate battle to free Miss Piggy!
Throughout each ride the display on the top or bottom of the screen will look
as follows:
You will also different controls for each of the rides, which will explained in
their respective sections of the walkthrough.
All levels can be replayed to gain more Rides and points, and if you die on a
course you simply start over where you left off, you don't have to redo it all,
thankfully.
4a. The Raging River Ride [WLKa]
Navigate Kermit down the river as he sits on his hemorrhoid cushion.
Controls:
Control Pad: Up and down speed up and slow down Kermit
Left and right move Kermit left and right
A Button: No use
B Button: No use
Start: Pauses play
Select: Exits ride
Things you'll encounter:
Rocks: Either big or four small group these will take one heart away if hit.
Logs: These move back and forth and push Kermit as well as remove one heart if
hit.
Whirlpools: These don't hurt you themselves but will send Kermit into the walls
and rocks causing him to take damage.
Carnival Barker: You only encounter one these guys in their raft, just avoid him
or die.
Periscope: Hit one of these to refill your life meterand give you 200 pts.
Buoy: Run over one of these for an extra Ride (life) and 300 pts.
Key: Collect this to finish the level.
Tips:
This ride is pretty straight forward, simply guide Kermit down the river and
avoid rocks and logs. Don't worry if you hit them though, there's plenty of
periscopes to keep your meter up. Holding up to slow yourself down helps a lot,
and since there is no time limit there is no disadvantage to doing this. Make
sure you collect all the buoys you can, you will need them later. There a few
dead ends in this, but if you hold up, you can see them coming. Passing logs is
a lot easier if you hold up then gun it with the down button to pass them as
soon as they move.
Difficuly: 3/5 A few tight spaces, but no real problems.
Suggested time to play this: 3rd
4b. Crash Car Course [WLKb]
Drive Animal in his bumper car through this "dangerous" track.
Controls:
Control Pad: Up and down not used
Left and right to steer Animal to HIS left and right.
A button: Hold for Gas/Move Animal
B button: No use
Start: Pauses play
Select: Exits ride
Things you'll encounter:
Red Flags: 100 pts when run over.
Green Flags: 100 pts when run over, collect 5 for a health refill.
Oil slicks: No damage caused, but can throw you into obstacles.
Bombs: Cause you to lose one heart.
Barrels: No damage caused, 100 pts for hitting one.
Rubberband barricades: No damage, make you bounce back when hit.
Rising and falling baricades: As described, no damage, drive over when down.
Key: Collect this to finish the level.
Tips:
First off, hitting the wall doesn't hurt you, use this to your advantage.
The first leg is just oil slicks in the middle of the track with a red flag
above or below it then eventually a red flag above or below it and a bomb on the
opposite side, if you don't care about points just say on the top and drive
straight until you come to an oil slick and green flag.
Collect the flag 5 times to refill your health and move on. The next leg of the
track has rows of barrels on an angle with an oil slick on either the bottom or
top of the row (it alternates) and a bomb in the middle of the track after
these. Just cruise on through until you reach another slick and green flag.
The third leg of the track consists of verticle lines of bombs with openings to
squeeze through, just come to a stop and drive through. Note, your car drifts up
for some reason when stopped, can be annoying but can also be helpful. After a
few rows of bombs you will come across the rubberband baricades coupled with
bombs, very easy section to get through, just don't drive crazy and hold A all
the time and you'll pass through harm-free until you reach the slick and green
flag again. This next leg I find most annoying. It's back to those vertical rows
of bombs, but this time there's a baricade that rises and falls in place with
where you have to drive through. If you hit you'll most likely bounce into at
least two bombs. Just wait it's down then drive on through. Grab the green flag
by the slick again, move on.
Another section of angled barrels just the same as earlier. Green flag and slick
again. The final leg is easy, it's simply rubberband baricades moving up and
down, they come in sets of two with a red flag in between each set. If you don't
care for the points, just hug the very bottom and drive straight through until
you see the key sitting by two bombs, collect it and your done.
Difficulty: 3/5 if you take your time, 4/5 if try rushing.
Suggested time to play this: 2nd
4c. Lost in Space Ride [WLKc]
Prepare to throw your controller, smash your keyboard, and tear your hair out as
you attempt to navigate Gonzo and his poorly controlled Spaceship through space
and eventually destroy the Evil Space Station.
Controls: (If you're good at Asteroids your in luck, if you not, you're screwed)
Control Pad: Up and down not used
Left and right to steer the direction you want to go
A Button: Hold to use ship's engine, sounds easy...
B Button: Fire your Spaceship's gun, it shoots out the very top
Start: Pauses play
Select: Exits ride
Things you'll encounter:
Fuel tanks: They kind of look like fire extinguishers, they fill up your health.
Asteroids: These flying meatballs of death take one heart's worth damage, shoot
them once to destroy them for 100 pts.
UFOs: Two types, ones that look like flying deer heads and ones that look like
angry smiley faces, one shot kills em for 100 pts each, they also take
one heart away.
Space Dogs: These fly in from behind in their UFO and shoot frantically at you,
each hit takes one heart away.
Camilla: Gonzo's fat chick girlfriend in a bubble gives you a free ride when you
ram her.
Turrets: These brown piles of who-knows-what are a serious pain, they sit on the
moon and fire relentless at you, sometimes they're in swarms too, only
good thing is they only take one shot to kill and don't move. The deal
one heart's damage and give 100 pts when killed.
Space cars: Little car shaped things that are worse than turrets, in fact they
are the exact same except the move back and forth. As usual 100 pts if
shot once, one heart if you get hit.
Electric baricades: No damage when you hit them, but you'll bounce into them, it
takes 10 hits to destroy these puppies and it's mandatory to do so at
some points.
Evil Space Station: The end of the level, this thing spits UFOs at you as well
as shoots out of its guns on each side of the door the UFOs come out of.
Just keep shooting at its door and you'll kill it eventually.
Key: Collect this from the destroyed space station to finish the level.
NOTES: Getting hit by the enemy kills it and gives you points and damage,
getting hit by their gunfire gives points too. Don't ask. You can also
shoot through walls in the moon cave. Your gunfire also destroys enemy
gunfire and gain 100 pts. Getting caught between the screen and a wall
will kill you.
Tips:
Go slow and stay towards the back of the screen. DON'T SHOOT FUEL OR CAMILLA, it
will cause them to blow up and they are much needed. Play the River ride before
and stock up on rides. The level starts off in open space and there's just some
asteroids coming at you, shoot the ones coming at you, or all of them, whatever
you choose. Eventually some UFOs and Space Dogs will start to appear and you'll
come up to your first Camilla, collect it, you may really need it.
You'll soon enter a moon cave thing, with the annoying turrets and space cars,
fire at them as soon as you can and try to avoid their shots. You'll then see an
electric baricade you can destroy for easier access to the fuel. You'll come up
soon to a hard to reach Camilla, then two electric barricades that must be
destroyed.
Space Dogs will again enter the picture here and you'll soon come across an
onslaught of 4 turrets on the upper path and an electric baricade on the lower
path. Fill up on the fuel after these turrets.
Next up is a couple more electric baricades to be destroyed, some turrets, fuel,
and then asteroids and Space Dogs are back in the picture. You'll soon come
across a bunch of fuel and the Space Dogs will be going across the bottom of the
screen with the asteroids still coming at you, shortly you'll find leave the
moon cave and be back out in open space.
After a short period of just asteroids you'll come to the Evil Space Station,
shoot at the UFOs it spits out, and the bullets it shoots, keep on the move a
bit and keep shooting it by the door, it'll die soon and give you the key.
Difficulty: 5/5 the poor controls make it so hard, I suggest at least 15 rides
saved for this level.
Suggested time to play this: 4th
4d. Amazing Ice Cream Maze [WLKd]
Navigate Fozzie through several ice cream "mazes" while trying not to get hit by
the Carival Barkers. The object is to collect a bowtie, a present, and another
bowtie to exit the maze and move on to the next one.
Controls:
Control Pad: Up and down move Fozzie up and down
Left and right move Fozzie left and right
A Button: No use
B Button: Throw an item (you can only pick up and hold one at a time)
Start: Pauses play
Select: Exits ride
Things you'll encounter:
Bowties: You'll need to collect these when they pop up, they are needed to exit
the maze.
Carnival Barkers: Both big and small, these deal one hearts damage and can't be
destroyed, they can however be stunned using the items that can be
thrown, the big ones appear in maze 25.
Present: Pops up when the first bowtie is collected (makes second bowtie
appear).
Bones: These start to appear in the 4th maze, collect them, and they can be used
to throw and distract the Barkers, you can only hold one at a time, and
when you throw it, it's gone for good. You can only use them in the maze
you got them in.
Hearts: Another item to pick up and throw. Hit the Barker directly to stun it in
it's place. Has same conditions as bones.
Candy Canes: Starts to appear in the 13th maze, they just move in a small
vicinity where they are, no real threat, one hearts damage, items have
no effect on them.
Banana Peels: The last item to pick up and throw, it makes the enemy fall when
it hits them. First appear in maze 25.
Fake Walls: Pretty self-explanatory, they move, one heart's damage if hit when
they are moving, if not you can run through them. First appearance,
maze 25.
Key: Collect this to finish the level.
Tips:
Avoid all enemies, you start to get bones in the 4th maze, and when you reach
the 7th maze there will be two small Carnival Barkers and the use of hearts. By
the 10th maze you can start picking up both hearts and bones, but remember, you
can only have one at a time. When you reach the 13th maze the Candy Canes
appear, they aren't really a threat though. Big Barkers start to appear by the
25th maze along with banana peels and fake walls. 30th level, you get the key.
Difficulty: 2/5 Pretty easy.
Suggested time to play this: 1st
4e. The Grumpasaurus Cave [WLKe]
Once you've gotten all four keys Kermit is able to enter the Grumpasaurus Cave
and face off with Dr. Grump, armed with a mighty feather Kermit enters
cautiously to see what awaits...
Controls:
Control Pad: Up and down + A thrusts Kermit's feather up or down.
Left and right move Kermit left and right
A Button: Thrust Kermit's feather straight out EN GARDE!
B Button: Jump
Start: Pauses play
Select: Exits ride
Things you'll encounter:
Fireballs: Thrown out of flaming windows these deal one hearts damage, jump on
them (hold down the B Button) for no damage and extra air.
Firepits: Hop over or get burned with one heart, also shoots fireballs.
Carnival Barkers: Hop over them, no problem.
Bats: They swoop down from above to deal one heart's damage.
Ants: These crawl up and down the wall and deal, you guessed it, one heart's
damage.
Hotdog/Lipstick: One of Miss Piggy's possessions, gives you a free ride and
200 pts.
Ring: Same as above.
Kermit? Drawings: Same as above.
Grumpasaurus: He's pink and he likes to push (which doesn't hurt) to defeat him,
you must tickle him until he falls off the edge which is RIDICULOUSLY
DIFICULT! While writing this I spent at least 80 rides on him, then got
him finally using this technique:
As soon as you are approaching his platform, jump as close as you can
to him right away and hold down and A, you should bump him off the edge
but kill yourself, but don't worry, when you start off your next life
he's still dead.
Dr. Grump: Just after you defeat the Grumpasaurus you'll encounter him, he likes
to drop bombs at you, jump in the air and use A to shoot hearts from
your feather, shoot the hearts and time it so that they hit the TOP of
his head, 5 hits will do him in.
Miss Piggy: Your ham-sel in distress (sorry for the bad pun)
Tips:
Just keep on heading right avoiding all the perils of the cave, jump off
fireballs if you want to reach the treaures out of reach, you can also jump on
bats. Soon you'll reach a pit with stones from the wall sticking out for you
jump on. Make your way across this pit making sure to land in the middle of the
stones, try to avoid the mass of fireballs as they can hit you and make you fall
in the pit. Collect any Kermit Drawings and possesions along the way until you
meet the Grumpasaurus in his pink pyjamas, careful he doesn't push you off the
blocks as they aren't connected. If you die here, the game likes to put you in
really bad starting positions and sometimes you might want to just start over.
For tips on beating him see above. After he's destroyed hop a couple of bricks
until you reach section of 8 bricks, four on the top row, and four on the
bottom, this is where Dr. Grump is waiting...See above for tips on destroying
him, but he's actually ridiculousy easy, just stay on the second brick from the
left to avoid all his bombs and keep hitting the top of his head with hearts to
kill him.
Difficulty: 6/5 simply because of the Grumpasaurus
View the short and stupid ending which was not worth the effort put into playing
the game. I hope you didn't lose too much hair due to ripping while playing this
game... And I can bet you'll never play it again.
