Thanks to Patarsenic for doing this!  He also wrote his own FAQ which
COMPLETELY outclassed this one and included all hidden rooms, but then
again, he's a rabid fan.  I really wish more of my FAQs could inspire people
to make memorial pages dedicated to the particular games they deal with.
Thank you, old chap.(E-mail him at [email protected])
2/26/2000 v.1.0: First version of the FAQ.

What a travesty...NO ONE used their time to offer a FAQ for this wonderful
little title from Rare.  In fact, the entire Wizards and Warriors series has
been virtually ignored!  I mean to rectify this mistake ASAP.  Anyhow...a
little rambling...look at the cover picture on the cart.  Yep, that's
Fabio...long hair and all.  Sure, he got a little distorted in the actual
game, but he got a helmet later on so you couldn't see his face...I laughed
myself silly when I first realized that...Heheheheh...on to the rest of the
intro.  One reason why I REALLY love this game...NINTENDO LOGIC IS REVERSED!
Seriously, now instead of enemies always killing YOU when they run into
you, you can kill THEM by hitting them in a certain way.  Just jump up at
them so that the point of your sword hits them, then they'll die and you
won't.  It's always fun to see those enemies, smug in the confidence that
every previous Nintendo enemy hurt the hero when they ran into him, explode
when you jump into them.  Take THAT, foul creature!  However, the downside
of this new system is that swinging your sword is practically useless...just
jump and jump and jump some more.  On to the walkthrough...

Items/spells:
Gems, Big gems, coins: Give varying amounts of cash.  Finding "treasure" in
a chest gives you around 500 coins.

Food, ale: Health.  Try to keep yours up.  Beware of the fat-looking
chicken, it'll TAKE AWAY health, so keep an eye out!  (But then again, Kuros
just wolfs down those chickens bones and all anyway, you'd think he could
take just a LITTLE poison.  But NOOO!!!  Nintendo Logic strikes again!)

Keys: Those stupid things that disappear every time you use 'em.  Grab every
one you can get your mitts on, and if you can't grab enough, buy 'em.

Sword, Axe, Diamond Sword: Find them to make your weapon longer and
stronger(and thus more easily able to kill those that run into it.)

Helmet: Makes shots and enemies that land on your head less likely to hurt
you and more likely to hurt themselves.

Shield: Probably increases your defense, in any case, it completes Kuros's
knight ensemble.  Get one.

Items of Sindarin: Bragging rights.  Well hidden, well-guarded, and all they
give you is points galore.  (In other words, useless.)

Familiar Spell: Turns enemies into coins and gets you the Golden egg.

Veil of Slumber: Puts those ADHD'd monsters on Ritalin.

Windbane: Needed to kill the Wind Elemental.

Waterspout: Use to get to the Golden Fly, or just if you want to go up
really high.

BlightWater: Used to defeat the Water Elemental.

Silver Fleece: Makes you invincible.

Fleet Foot Spell: Enables faster running and jumping, needed to get the
Golden Crown.

FireSmite: What did you expect?  Needed to kill Fire Elemental.

Dragon Tooth Spell: Turns enemies into food.

Asp's Tongue Spell: Use it in the shop and the shopkeeper will start
throwing food at you...

Seven League Boots: Needed to scale IceFire Mountain, PERMANENTLY increase
your speed and jump height.

Level 1: Mountain base.
Fear the birds like Ryu Hayabusa.  If you're not careful, they will slowly
whittle down your health until you die in an appropriately undignified (but
fun to watch) fashion.  Get the treasure lying just up the left side of the
mountain, then walk along the bottom until you enter the door.  Dodge those
pesky demons and pick up the two keys and longer sword.  When you come out
on the top of the mountain, jump over to the final key, then jump straight
up to enter a secret room with some cash.  Jump down to the chest and
retrieve the Familiar Spell.  Have a nice day:) The golden egg is near the
bottom right of the mountain behind a "slide trap." Use the Familiar Spell
within sight of it and its yours.  Go to the eagle(top left) and he'll take
you to the next stage.

Level 1: The clouds.
As if the birds weren't scary enough, now you have to deal with the tornados
and wind demons which conastantly come at you from all directions.  Besides
this, we get another healthy dose of Nintendo logic: Not only are the clouds
hard enough to walk on, but they're bouncy as well!  You can make your jump
a lot higher by hitting A right as you land on a cloud; this is crucial if
you want to beat this level.  I find that shouting "Boingy, boingy, boingy"
helps to increase concentration for performing this move.  There are four
main areas of interest: on the top right is the entrance to the space of the
Wind Elemental.  Don't enter here until you've received the Windbane from
the cloud entrance at the top LEFT.  (You'll have to bounce over some pretty
high cloud formations to get it, so master the art of Tigger!)When you get
the Windbane, swinging your sword will cause you to fire out a bolt of
wind-killing goodness.  However, this takes off MP, so be on the lookout for
platforms that spit out magic bubbles when you land on them.(Magic BUBBLES?
Fabio the mighty knight needs magic BUBBLES?) The top middle cloud entrance
contains lots of food and a helmet, so I highly recommend visiting there.
And finally, if you have a longing for any kind of pain, the big cloud on
the bottom right has a secret entrance which leads to the Book of Sindarin.
To get there, just jump on top of the  cloud and fall down along the right
side of it.  10,000 absolutely useless points!  Woohoo!  If you ran out of
things to do by now, go to the Wind Elemental and wipe that...err...frown
off his face.  Then proceed to collect the first piece of the Ironsword.

Level 2: Rain Forest
Here's where we have a rather annoying glitch.  The first time you get the
waterspout spell, it doesn't want to stay with you.  If you either get food,
use another spell, or accidentally enter a hidden door, the spell will
disappear from your inventory and you'll have to get it all over
again(wasting another key in the process.)  Stupid game designers...anyway,
there's not really much to say here, get the Diamond Sword if you want, get
the Shield, and get any secret doors that you find.  To get the Golden Fly,
you have to jump up into the trees as far to the right as you can go.  When
you get to the "tree" as opposed to the "branch" platforms, stand on top of
the one which allows you to run against the invisible barrier on the right.
Then use the Waterspout spell.  If all goes according to plan, you should be
sent up to the Golden Fly.  Give it to the big frog and proceed down to...

Level 2: Underwater
When you land in this stage, do NOT run right.  That leads to the Water
Elemental and a quick death.  Run left, dodging phiranas as you go.  Soon
you'll see a little hole with water going down it.  But before you drop down
into the deep, jump over the hole and enter the secret door on the wall.
Time your running carefully past the Thwomp-like creatures and you'll
receive the Cross of Sindarin.  Now head out and go down the hole...into a
creepy underwater crypt.  Fortunately, the zombies and such are rather easy
to dodge.  Make your way slowly right until the level starts advancing
downward.  Fall to the bottom, then turn left and jump up against the wall.
You should go right through it, leading to a chest with the Blightwater.  Go
back through the wall and through the rest of the level, picking up a Silver
Fleece along the way.  When you come up on the right, you should be face to
much-bigger face with the Water Elemental.  Toast 'im.

Level 3: Outside the Volcano
You'll have to travel up a rather long shaft before you even start this
level.  Be sure to pick up the longer sword on the way up.  When you come
out onto the volcano base, you should immediately notice those craters
spitting out lava like crazy.  Only one crater tends to be active at a time;
learn to stay away from that one.  This is probably one of the more annoying
points in the game, because all over the volcano are doors which drop you
down a slope to a lower door, which means you have to jump all the way back
up to continue exploring.  The two chests in this area contain a better
helmet and the Fleet Foot spell, I would suggest getting both, and you'll
need the spell anyway.  Find the door which leads TO a deadfall but does not
AUTOMATICALLY drop you down(you have a little bit of space to stand on.) Use
the Fleet Foot spell when standing there, then drop down and hold right on
the controls.  You should end up going right instead of left at the split
point, and thus come by the golden Crown.  Give it to the Dragon King, then
go to the summit and press down to enter.

Level 3: Inside the Volcano
Evil...toothy...critters...anyway, make sure you pick up the axe.  Why?
Because swords do get boring after a while. If you proceed downward as far
as you can go, you'll eventually come to the scowling mug of the Fire
elemental, naturally you'll want to avoid that before you get the Firesmite.
When you see his face, start making your way up the platforms, being
careful to keep a straight upward course, because you'll end up going around
in circles if you veer left too early.  Here's my visual representation on
where the door to the Gauntlet of Sindarin is, because I don't feel like
describing it verbally right now...
                     |
                     |
----------------------|  <--Here's the door-it's along the left wall.
                     |    (the dotted lines are a rough outline of the
                     |     cavern's direction.)
_<--Let's say that this is the Fire Elemental.

Now that that's done with, to get the Firesmite, go on back up the shaft
above the fire elemental until you reach the top, then turn left, and you
should be at the only visible door in this entire volcano.  Get the
Firesmite from inside(BTW, the manual is wrong about those skulls being
invincible...one hit from the Firesmite kills them)and go back down again.
Time your magic tossing so that the bolt hits the mouth of the fire
elemental, otherwise you'll just be wasting magic.  After the Fire
elemental's extinguished, collect the third piece of the Ironsword.

Level 4: Cavern.
Finally, a golden item that doesn't require a spell!  The little room
floating in the middle of the cavern has three tiny platforms in it; jump on
the leftmost one and stay there for a while.  The Golden Tankard will pop
right out of the ground.  Take it and proceed into the next cavern.  It's
pretty straightforward from here on, actually.  Get the longest sword from
the chest, and buy as many keys as you can, the next level's gonna be FULL
of chests!  Oh, and this time the doorway to the item of Sindarin is easy to
find...it's on the platform where the one-up is!  If only getting past the
three rows of Thwomps were that easy.  100,000 points for the Ring of
Sindarin, though, you gotta admit, it makes you feel like a man(as if being
Fabio weren't enough.) Give the Tankard to the bear and head on into...

Level 4: Earth Cave.
Chests, chests, chests...mostly containing treasure so you can go back and
buy more keys.  One of those many chests contains the EarthScorch, another
contains a better shield.  Pick them both up and go to meet the smiling face
of the Earth Elemental on the very bottom.  You'll have to jump and fire
into his mouth to hit him, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
After you're done with the Thing, you collect the last piece of the
Ironsword!  You're a man now...yeah right.  IceFire mountain is still to
come!

Level 5: Base of Icefire Mountain.
Now that you have the Ironsword, whenever you swing the blade, you'll shoot
a blast of magic out.  You can fire it in different directions too.
CONSERVE MAGIC!  You'll be needing it.  Face it: You ain't getting up this
mountain unless you can fly or...jump higher!  Ignore the shop unless you
used up all your keys in the Earth cave, then buy one, and buy the Diamond
shield too if you can afford it.  Walk left along the bottom of the
mountain, drop down the hole, and then walk right until you reach the chest
with the Seven League Boots.  The greatest footwear not produced by
sweatshop labor!  Maybe Fabio should stop hawking margarine and start
selling THESE things!  For some reason, the game just gets a lot more FUN
when you have them.  Anyway, make your way up the mountain, being careful
not to fall, and you'll find a door on the top right.  Enter and you'll be
in a cave with the rolling bones game music playing.  Now you should be
ignoring anything resembling money or keys, but if you see an extra magic
bubble or more food, GET IT!  You'll see why when you finally reach...

Level 5: Summit of Icefire Mountain
This has got to be the most upbeat last level music I've ever heard!  But
it's pretty cool all the same.  Somehow, it just fits the theme of the
battle so well.  Thank you, Rare, for making this last level experience as
pleasant as possible music-wise(as opposed to gameplay-wise.) Those nasty
Elementals are all hanging around the top of the left mountain, just begging
for a beat-down.  Make sure you have enough magic points when you go up to
face them; because once they see you, they'll follow you all around the
level (only one at a time, thankfully)until either they or you die.  Get
extra magic bubbles from the ubiquitous snowmen to replenish your MP, as
well as from the various points that spit out more.  The elements are REALLY
hard, so you'll need every bit of it.  After you vanquish the last one,
you've won!  The ending sucks!  Now go get Wizards and Warriors 3...

Special thanks to:
Patarsenic, for being SO fanatical enough about the game that my FAQ
inspired him to make a memorial website on it(we really do need more of
those.)Once again, the website is:

www.angelfire.com/pe/ironsword

And special thanks to him for making a TRULY complete FAQ on the game, with
passwords for every single visible and hidden room!  It beats mine out
completely!  Heck yeah...Ironsword now has two really, really, REALLY good
FAQs for it now.  If you're still somehow stuck on the game, you probably
need medical attention.
CjayC, for creating gamefaqs.com, best site ever.
J Dog, for being relentlessly supportive.
Al Amaloo, for asking for FAQs the RIGHT way.
Fduboo, for being the first to put me on a "top five reviewers" list.
SMcFadden and Emptyeye, IF(and I do mean if) they ever get their respective
Magician and Wizards and Warriors 3 Faqs done.
God, for pretty much everything, especially the whole saving the world
through Jesus thing.
