Indora no Hikari is a low quality Dragon Quest clone type RPG released
only in Japan for the Famicom. It has numerous flaws and poor graphics, but
you still might enjoy it if you're in the right mood.
Among its flaws are the fact that it is hard to talk to townspeople,
since they have to be facing you in order for you to talk, but they
constantly change directions, so you have to chase them around the screen.
Another major flaw is that your fellow party members follow you as you
travel, but they often get stuck behind things, which makes them get left
behind and you have to go back to get them. They'll even get stuck when
there's absolutely no obstacles on the screen. It's very badly done.
The game also suffers from being unclear about where to go in several
instances, and often the thing you're supposed to do make no sense. A final
complaint to list is the fact that you have to backtrack too often, and you
spend a lot of time battling very weak enemies for next to no experience.
Despite this long list of complaints (which could probably be a lot
longer, but I'll spare you), there is something charming about the game. The
way you move around the world map and search for hidden staircases is
reminiscent of the Legend of Zelda, so it somehow has a nostagic feel to me.
I'm having a hard time thinking of more positive aspects to the game, but if
you go into it with a good attitude, you might end up enjoying yourself
nonetheless.

This is the story which is shown in the text as you begin the game:

Long ago our ancestors came to this planet on a ship which flew in the
heavens. They lived peacefully under the guidance of the god Baan.
There came a time when the source of Baan's power, the Light of Indora,
was stolen by demons, and Baan went into a deep sleep.
Little by little, the planet of Iibaru was changed into a place where
terrible monsters dwelled.

Here is a list of characters which will join your party as you progress
through the game, listed in order of when they join your party:

Saba (サバ) - A soldier, hired in Zeraana for 2000 gold.
Lan (ラン) - A lost girl who needs to be returned to Shinshinia City.
Gils (ギルス) - A soldier wandering the map Southwest from Colste Castle.
Rocky (ローキー) - A legendary hero who once defeated Zadark.
Sarah (サラ) - A woman seeking her long lost lover.
Shou (ショウ) - A legendary hero in a deep sleep.

---Coordinates-----------------------------------------------------[sec3a]---
For the purpose of this guide and describing where to go to find things,
let's define a coordinate system. The world map is a 16x16 set of screens
that you move between similar to how you move around the Legend of Zelda map.

We'll use a coordinate system similar to the game of Battleship. Like, you
would call out "A10" to attack a ship at a particular spot on the Battleship
game board.

If you move from West to East, you are going up the alphabet, so "A" is a
screen furthest to the West of the world map. "P" is the screen furthest to
the East (since "P" is the 16th letter of the alphabet).

If you move from South to North, you are counting up in numbers, so "1" is
the screen furthest to the South, and "16" is the screen furthest North.

For example, if you are in the screen in the Southwest corner of the map, you
are at "A1". If you are on the screen in the Northeast corner of the map, you
are at "P16".

These coordinates are labeled on the map I have posted in a separate file on
gamefaqs and will make finding locations on the map much easier.

---Talking to Townspeople------------------------------------------[sec3b]---
You'd think talking to townspeople would be straightforward, but it's
programmed so badly in this game, I felt I should say a word or two about it.
To talk to a townsperson, you simply walk up to them (no button pushing
necessary). You have to be facing them, obviously, but they also have to be
facing you.

This leads to some annoyance, because the townspeople often turn away from
you as you approach them.

---Learning Magic--------------------------------------------------[sec3c]---
You can learn magic in this game by talking to certain shamans. Shamans are a
particular type of character that you'll begin to recognize after you play
into the game for awhile. At first, you cannot learn any spells, you have to
trigger a particular event.

After you are able to learn spells, you visit a specific shaman to learn a
specific spell. Everybody has only certain spells that they can learn,
though. Also, only people in your current party can learn a spell from a
shaman. So every time you get a new character, you have to go back to the
previous shamans you found and see if they will teach the new character their
spell.

The information of which shamans teach which spells and who can learn those
spells is all included in this guide. See the "Magic" section to see who can
learn which spell and where the corresponding shaman is located.

---Selling Items---------------------------------------------------[sec3d]---
To sell an item, you visit a shop. The shop owner will ask you if you want to
buy something. You have to answer "no" (いいえ), and then he will ask if you
want to sell something. Then say "yes" (はい), of course.

You can only sell items in the type of store at which they can be purchased.
This can be a little confusing, so here's an explanation:

Swords and shields can be bought and sold at weapon shops, but armor is
bought and sold at tool shops.

The weapons for females are staffs/rods, which are bought and sold in tool
shops. Also, the female equivalent of a shield is a "Coat", which is also
bought and sold in tool shops.

It can also be confusing where to sell items. They might be considered a
tool, medicine, or food, so do you go to the tool shop, medicine shop, or the
restaurant? It's different for each item. If you really want to sell an item,
just think about where you would go to buy it.

As a side note, the maximum amount of gold you can carry is 65535.

---Healing---------------------------------------------------------[sec3e]---
You can heal your characters in the same standard ways that you would in any
Dragon Quest clone RPG. You can rest at an inn, use healing items, or use
healing spells.

Additionally, when you start your game from a save file, your characters will
have full health. Therefore, you could heal your party simply by saving your
game, then reseting it and reloading.

---Death in the Party----------------------------------------------[sec3f]---
Reviving your dead party members is really crazy in this game. First of all,
if your main character dies, then it's just plain game over.

If one of the other party members dies, they leave behind a tombstone, and
their status is listed as "Dead" (しんでいる). At some point you will learn a
revive spell, but it won't do anything to a "Dead" party member. First, you
have to return their spirit to this world.

To return your party member's spirit to this world, you have to go to a town
and visit a priest at the church. You have to select the option たましいを
よびよせる ("Summon spirit") and pay a fee. The dead party member's status
will then be changed to "Spirit" (たましい), indicating they are in the world
as a spirit.

Now, you have to go all the way back to the place where you left their
tombstone and cast the revive spell Rirafu. Then they will be back alive, but
with low HP, so heal them before they get killed and you have to do all that
over again.

Later, you will learn a spell that will bring them back to life instantly
without having to go back to a priest first. But it will take awhile to get
that.

---Party Members Follow You----------------------------------------[sec3g]---
By far the biggest flaw in this game is the fact that your party members have
such a hard time following you from screen to screen. If they get stuck
behind a townsperson or object when you change screens, they won't be with
you anymore unless you go back and get them. Sometimes I would be missing my
party member and not notice for several screens, then have no idea where I
lost him/her. Usually, I could backtrack and find them again, but it's
aggravating. As you will see, in dungeons or other places with narrow
passages, it can be almost impossible to get them to follow you to the next
screen, especially when you have 2 followers.

Luckily, you gain a spell early on which brings missing party members to your
current location. Costs a little MP though, of course.

Actually, you can take advantage of this flaw in the game. As you may have
read above, reviving dead party members can be a long process. If a party
member is weak and prone to dying, you can just let them get stuck on a
previous screen and continue on without them, preventing them from getting
killed since they won't participate in battles when they're missing. Then
when all is safe and you want them back, use the spell to return them to you.

---Lantern---------------------------------------------------------[sec3h]---
The dungeons in this game are too dark to see inside, so your party won't
enter them. To be allowed in the dungeons, you need to have a Lantern. Then,
use the Lantern right before you go down the stairs leading to the dungeon.
The dungeon will now be illuminated and you can explore. The Lantern has no
time limit, so you can take all the time you want. However, if you leave the
dungeon, you will have to use a new one to be allowed to enter again.

Later in the game, you will learn a spell that illuminates dungeons in the
same way so you don't have to carry around any more Lanterns.

---Encounters and Battles------------------------------------------[sec3i]---
You enter battles in this game when you make contact with a monster while
moving around the world map. The monster graphic on the world map will either
be a red blob jumping around or a yellow cone shaped shell. The yellow shells
usually mean you will face a tougher enemy.

If you stay to the farthest edge of the screen, the monsters will never
contact you. You can avoid a lot of battles this way.

Battles are your standard turn-based RPG type battle. All battles are versus
one enemy at a time.

The only status ailments are that your characters may be paralyzed for a few
turns or they may be engulfed in darkness, making it hard to hit the enemy.
These effects disappear after the battle.

---Farei (ファレイ) Castle - Location: K2------------------------------------
You begin the game in a little house with your parents. You can't exit the
room until you talk to them. Talk to your dad and he tells you that the
princess of Farei is sick and can only be cured with a Dragon Fang. He gives
you a Leather Shield (かわのたて) and a Knife (ナイフ) to help you on your
journey. Equip them and note that you are already equipped with Leather
Clothes (かわのふく). Then talk to your mom, who gives you 100 gold. Now you
are able to exit the room, to the city of Farei.

Farei City layout:

A      A - Princess' room   H - Town entrance and medicine shop
BC     B - Throne room      I - Church
Do     C - Your house       J - Tool shop
oE      D - Jail
oo      E - Weapon shop
FooG    F - Inn
HIJ     G - Restaurant

Farei shops:

Weapon Shop:              Tool Shop:            Medicine Shop:
  Knife - 50                Lantern - 800         Medical Herb - 10
  Leather Shield - 50       Glass Rod - 1800   Restaurant:
  Copper Sword - 400        Gold Bow - 3000       Bread - 5

Go down one screen, then left one screen to find a soldier guarding the
castle who won't let you in unless you have medicine to cure the princess,
and also a soldier guarding a jail. These are two locations to note for the
future. There's nothing to do in town except talk to some people. You learn
that there are secrets below stone, that there is a good medicine shop in
Rikyuumu City, and that Zeraana City is to the North. Visit the church to
save your game.

Your next goal is to get some money so you can buy the Copper Sword. You can
get money from fighting monsters, but you can get a lot of gold quickly by
finding hidden treasure. When you exit town, you can go to the screens to the
East, West, or South of town, then search a rock there to uncover hidden
stairs. Down the stairs, you will find a good haul of gold, usually 900 gold
or so. There are hidden treasures like this all over this game, so look
carefully, or use the map I made (separate file uploaded to GameFaqs) to find
them. Don't bother buying anything else for now, except maybe some Medical
Herbs to restore HP.

Build up some levels by fighting enemies, but stay near town so you can rest
at the inn to recover HP. Then, when you feel confident, feel free to
explore. The enemies don't get any stronger for awhile. As long as you
encounter red bouncy ball looking enemies, the resulting fights will be from
the same pool of enemies. Later, you will find yellow cone shaped shells
moving around on the screen, which will produce an enemy from a stronger pool
of enemies when you contact one.

First, head to Zeraana City, located to the East two screens and North two
screens from Farei.

---Zeraana (ゼラーナ) City - Location: M4------------------------------------

Zeraana city layout:

A      A - Tool shop     E - Medicine shop
oB     B - Hire Saba     F - City entrance
CDEo    C - Restaurant    G - Inn
FG H    D - Church        H - Weapon shop

Zeraana shops:

Weapon Shop:             Tool Shop:            Medicine Shop:
  Copper Sword - 550       Lantern - 300         Medical Herb - 20
  Copper Shield - 450      Glass Rod - 2000   Restaurant:
  Knife - 100              Chain Mail - 200      Dried Meat - 10

In Zeraana, you can hire Saba (サバ) for 2000 gold and he will join your
party, which you should do as soon as possible. You will also want to buy
Chain Mails (くさりかたびら) and Copper Shields (どうのたて) for both
characters and a Copper Sword for Saba. You'll learn quickly that your party
members are terrible at following you. If they get stuck behind someone or
something, they won't follow you to the next screen. So you have to go back
and get them. Sometimes, although rarely, they disappear altogether to who
knows where. In that case, you have to use a certain spell to bring them back
to you, which you'll learn soon.

To get more gold, look for more hidden caves under rocks with treasure in
them. Some of these caves will require you to make a choice among 3 treasure
chests. You can only choose one. Guess right and get a good chunk of gold,
but choose wrong and you will be damaged by about 10 HP by a trap. The
correct choice is random.

North of Zeraana, you will find a shaman blocking the path. Someone in town
mentioned that you can't pass without the Sword of Light.

Your next destination is Bishuu City. To get there, from Zeraana City, head
West 1 screen, North 3 screens, West 4 screens, South 1 screen, and West 2
screens. Along the way, you will see a guard in front of a bridge, but he
won't let you pass without the king's permission.

---Bishuu (ビシュー) City - Location: F6-------------------------------------

Bishuu city layout:

A     A - Inn. Girl asking for 1000 gold donation and gives Red Wing.
oooo    B - City entrance. Restaurant.
BCo      C - Weapon shop. Tool shop.
DoE     D - Church.
        E - Medicine shop.

Bishuu shops:

Weapon Shop:             Tool Shop:              Medicine Shop:
  Steel Sword - 3998       Glass Rod - 998         (Poisonous) Herb - 20
  Steel Shield - 2598      Chain Mail - 198     Restaurant:
  Copper Shield - 498      Steel Armor - 1298      Sake - 980

There isn't much to do in Bishuu. Buy the Steel equipment for your characters
when you can afford it. You can get a Red Wing (あかいのはね) from a girl
here by giving her 1000 gold, but I don't know what it's for, if anything.

In town, you hear that there are 3 statues that will give mysterious power
and that the Earth Statue is in Sanrekuute Temple.

Well then, onward to Sanrekuute Temple! But there are tougher enemies along
the way. If you have trouble with them, you should gain levels until you're
around level 7, and have the steel equipment equipped.

To reach Sanrekuute Temple, go South 4 screens from Bishuu City, East 1
screen, then North 2 screens.

---Sanrekuute (サンレクーテ) Temple - Location: G4---------------------------

Sanrekuute Temple layout:

 o     A - Elder's room.
AoBo   B - Temple entrance.

In Sanrekuute, head to the elder's room. He says the hero of Farei will have
a symbol on his right arm. You show him your arm and he exclaims with
excitement that a birthmark on your arm is the symbol. He says you need to
gather 3 statues and revive the god Baan. He says the Earth Statue was stolen
and taken to the Babel Mountains where a dragon lives.

---Learning Spells-----------------------------------------------------------
You are now able to learn spells from shamans you may have noticed in some of
the caves hidden under rocks.

To learn the spell Rirafu (リラフ), which will bring a dead party member back
to life, visit the shaman in a hiiden cave at location: H5. Using it is
weird, actually. See the "Death in the Party" section of this guide for an
explanation.

To learn the spell Aamedo (アーメド), visit the shaman in the hidden cave at
location: K4. This spell will bring a party member to your current location
if he/she is separated from you. Very useful.

To learn the spell Rimedo (リメド), visit the shaman in the hidden cave at
location: I2. This is a healing spell which will restore 10-20 HP or so per
use.

These are all the spells currently available. Your next goal is to face the
dragon, but there is some preparation to do first. If you were to try to
fight the dragon right now, you wouldn't be able to hurt it. First, head to
Rikyuumu City to get the Silver Sword if you haven't yet.

---Rikyuumu (リキューム) City - Location: J3---------------------------------

Rikyuumu City layout:

 A    A - Tool shop.             E - City entrance. Church.
BC    B - Restaurant.
DoE    C - Inn. Medicine shop.
o     D - Weapon shop.

Rikyuumu shops:

Weapon Shop:              Tool Shop:              Medicine Shop:
  Silver Sword - 8000       Glass Rod - 1800        Medical Herb - 10
  Leather Shield - 100      Chain Mail - 200     Restaurant:
  Copper Shield - 600       Steel Armor - 1500      Dried Meat - 15

There isn't much to do here other than buy the rather expensive Silver Sword.
If you need some money, you can skip ahead to the Dragon Cave (but don't
fight the dragon yet!) and/or a dungeon at location: P1 (see "Zaruza Cape
Dungeon" section for dungeon layout), where there's a ton of gold to be had.

You were told there's a great medicine shop in Rikyuumu by a few people, and
rumor is that the medicine shop person is looking for a Dragon Fang. Good to
know, but nothing we can do about it yet. You also hear in town that many
people have been hurt by a dragon in the mountains, and that the king of
Colste is looking for his son.

---Preparing for the Dragon--------------------------------------------------
There is a shaman that you can visit, hidden under a rock, at location: J6.
He tells you that the shaman of Zeraana had a terrible run in with the
dragon.

Before heading to Zeraana, go to location: K5 to find the Silver Arrow
(ぎんのや), hidden in a cave under a rock.

Now, head to Zeraana (the 2nd city of the game) and look for the shaman in
town (you know what they look like by now). He says that you need the Silver
Arrow to kill the dragon.

You might realize that you need a bow to shoot the arrow with and that a Gold
Bow (おうごんのゆみ) was for sale in Farei (the town you began the game in)
for 3000 gold. So go there and buy the Gold Bow.

One more thing. You need a Lantern (ランタン) to see in the dark or else you
won't be able to enter the Dragon Cave. There's a decent chance you received
one when an enemy dropped it in battle, but if you don't have one, they are
300 gold to buy in Zeraana. If all of these preparations have been fulfilled,
it's time to slay a dragon!

---Dragon Cave - Location: I6------------------------------------------------

Dragon Cave layout:

    C    A - Cave entrance.
BoBB    B - Stairs down to treasure with gold.
BB B     C - Dragon encounter
 o
AoB

If you try to enter the Dragon Cave, it will be too dark to see and your
characters automatically turn back. Before entering the cave, use a Lantern.
Then enter, and the cave will be illuminated. The Lantern never runs out of
fuel, but if you leave the cave, you will have to use another one.

Go down all the stairways you see to rack up lots of gold. The enemiesmight
be a bit hard, but the boss is not, so avoid the battles if you have trouble
with them and just try to reach the end.

Boss: Dragon (ドラゴン)
Use the Silver Arrow right away during this battle. You use the Gold Bow to
shoot it automatically. The Gold Bow breaks, but the Silver Arrow goes
through the Dragon's head. The Dragon loses its invincibility and it should
only take one or two hits to kill it.

You receive the Dragon Fang (ドラゴンのキバ) for winning the battle. You then
find yourself in a cave with a chest. Open it to get the Earth Statue
(だいちのぞう).

Now you have to get out of the cave without getting killed. If you make it
out, go to Rikyuumu City.

---Curing the Princess-------------------------------------------------------
In Rikyuumu City, sell the Dragon Fang to the medicine shop. Then ask to buy
something, and you will be able to buy the Magic Medicine (まほうのくすり),
made from the Dragon Fang, for 250 gold.

Return to Farei and approach the soldier guarding the castle. He now lets you
in to see the king. Talk to the king and he says to hurry and bring his
daughter the medicine. Go to the back room and talk to the princess. You give
her the medicine and she is healed. Talk to the king again and you will be
granted permission to cross the bridge at location: I7 and enter the kingdom
of Colste.

So head there and talk to the guard who now lets you pass. From there, head
to Colste Castle, at location: E11.

  Silver Shield - 3000    Steel Armor - 2000     Restaurant:
  Sky Shield - 5000       Boomerang - 600           Bread - 20

Talk to the king and he'll thank you for bringing his son back (Saba) by
giving you the Strength Ring (ちからのゆびわ). Saba stops following you at
this point.

You can buy a Silver Shield here, but not the Sky Shield since you can't
equip it.

There are several important rumors here. You hear that you need the help of
Gils to resurrect the legendary soldier Rocky. You hear the shaman of
Shinshinia City has a missing daughter. You hear the Sky Statue is at
Hiyupunos Temple, that the Star Fragment was stolen and only the legendary
soldier can use the Star Fragment.

---Lan-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can find a girl who is lost at location: E8. Her name is Lan (ラン). She
is really weak, equipped with only a Knife and a Dress. She'll probably get
killed if you encounter an enemy, so do your best to avoid fights and get
back to Colste. You can also ditch her on purpose by making it so she doesn't
follow you to the next screen, then use the Aamedo spell later when you need
her back. If you keep her with you, buy her a Dress of Light (ひかりのドレス)
in Colste, which will greatly improve her defense.

She really won't be in your party for very long. If you want to improve her
abilities anyway, you can backtrack to get her a Glass Rod in Bishuu, which
will give her a decent attack, and you can visit a few shamans near the
Dragon Cave to teach her some spells (see the "Magic" section of this guide
to see which spells she can learn and visit the corresponding shamans). You
should also focus on getting her to level 7 or so.

Whatever you decide to do with Lan, either build her up as a usable character
or ditch her since you can call her back later with the Aamedo spell, go to
Colste when you're ready to save and rest and prepare for the next leg of
your journey.

Your next goal is Shinshinia City, location: B5. The directions from Colste
are: 1 screen South, 3 West, 7 South, 1 East, 1 South, 2 East, 4 North, 2
West. It's quite far, as you can see, which is why you might consider
improving Lan's abilities.

On the way is a shaman, at location D3, who tells you to return when you have
the Zadark Hair. Also, if Lan is with you, you can buy her a Coat of Light
(ひかりのコート) in a tool shop hidden under a rock at location: B4, which is
equipped as a shield and will make her defense much higher.

---Shinshinia (シンシニア) City - Location: B5-------------------------------

  Steel Shield - 4000      Silver Armor - 4000   Restaurant:
  Copper Sword - 2000      Sky Armor - 10000        Dried Meat - 30

If you ditched Lan, use Aamedo to call her back. Then, take her to her dad.
He's a shaman, so you know what he looks like. Her dad is happy for her safe
return and teaches you the spell Rifou (リフォウ) as thanks, which will warp
you back to a dungeon's entrance when you are inside a dungeon. Lan stays
here, leaving your party for good. Time to look for clues of what to do.

In town, you hear that, if you defeat Zadark, you should visit the king of
Colste. You hear that Hiyupunos Temple is overrun by monsters. You also hear
that the hero Rocky fought with Zadark in the past.

Be sure to get the Silver Armor before you leave.

---Seeking Rocky-------------------------------------------------------------

You could go to Hiyupunos Temple right now and challenge Zadark, but you
wouldn't be able to hurt it. Obviously, you need Rocky to help you. You were
told to seek Gils' help to do that, but who is Gils? Well, there's no hints
telling you, but he happens to be a soldier wandering around the screen at
location: C6.

To get there from Shinshinia, go East 2 screens, South 4, West 2, North 3,
West 1, North 2, East 2.

Talk to Gils and he joins your party. Notice, he already has the Death's Nest
Key (デスノスのかぎ) in his inventory. That's why you need him to revive
Rocky. The game won't let you trade the key into your main character's
inventory, so you're gonna have to keep Gils alive if you want to use that
key.

You can use the same trick you might have used with Lan. That is, you can
ditch Gils on purpose, then use Aamedo to call him back when you need him. I
say this because he also won't be in your party for very long. If you want to
make him stronger so you can use him in battle, buy him a Silver Shield in
Colste and a Silver Sword and Silver Armor in Shinshinia.

When you're ready, head to the dungeon at location: D2, which is hidden under
a rock. You'll need to light a Lantern before going down the stairs or else
it will be too dark to enter.

---Colste Dungeon - Location: D2---------------------------------------------

Colste Dungeon layout:

  B       A - Dungeon entrance.
A BBB      B - Stairs to treasure with gold.
BooBBBC    C - Locked chest.

Pass through the dungeon to the locked chest at the end. When you reach the
room with the chest, use Aamedo to bring Gils to the screen if you ditched
him. Then go up to the chest.

You automatically open the chest using the Death's Nest Key. Suddenly, you
hear the voice of Rocky. It's his spirit. He says he's waiting for you to
resurrect him. He also says that Zadark was sealed away in a box, but a youth
from Zeraana named Gido (ギド) stole the Star Fragment, which broke Zadark's
seal.

Gils leaves your party here, so you leave the dungeon alone. Use the Rifou
spell to warp back to the entrance. Notice, Rocky (ローキー) is now in your
party as a spirit.

You need to find Rocky's grave. There's a graveyard at location: C2. Get
there from the dungeon entrance by going North 2 screens, West 1, and South
2. Rocky's grave is here. Cast the Rirafu spell and Rocky will return to
life.

Rocky will be a permanent member of your party. Go to Shinshinia to buy him
the Sky Armor (てんのよろい) and the Silver Sword. Go to Colste to get him
the Sky Shield (てんのたて).

---Star Fragment-------------------------------------------------------------

As Rocky suggested, you need to get the Star Fragment from the youth Gido who
stole it. He is from Zeraana, but if you go to Zeraana, you won't find
anything. But he's a thief, so if you remember the jail in Farei, you might
think to check there. So go back to Farei and talk to the jail guard. He'll
let you into the jail. There, talk to the guy in the upper-left corner. It is
Gido. He says he already sold the Star Fragment to the tool shop.

Go to the tool shop here in Farei. You'll see a blank space, with a price of
5512 gold next to it. Buy this item, and have Rocky take it (it won't let you
buy it if you try to put it in your main character's inventory). It's the
Star Fragment (ほしのかけら).

Now, you're able to defeat Zadark, so head to Hiyupunos Temple, location: B8.
To get there from Shinshinia City, go East 2 screens, North 3, and West 2.

Make your way to the staircase in the Northwest part of the temple to battle
Zadark.

Boss: Zadark (ザダーク)
Have Rocky use the Star Fragment right away. Like the Dragon, Zadark will
lose his invulnerability. Then he'll just take one or two hits to kill.

When you beat Zadark, he drops the Zadark Hair (ザダークのけ). You will now
be in a cave with a chest. Open it to receive the Sky Statue (てんのぞう).

All the enemies are now gone from the temple, so you can exit leisurely.

---Sarah---------------------------------------------------------------------

Visit the shaman who said to return when you have the Zadark Hair, at
location D3, hidden under a rock, of course. This is two screens East and two
South from Shinshinia. He'll give you the Zaruza Key (ザルザのかぎ) and says
to go to Zaruza Cape. That is East of Farei, as a signpost around there would
tell you.

Before heading there, drop by Colste Castle and talk to the king. He says
that the king of Farei is worried about you and that you should visit him. So
go to Farei Castle and talk to the king. He says he's heard of your exploits
and as a reward gives you permission to travel to Kifros. This is reached via
the coast North of Zeraana, but a shaman still won't let you past him to get
there until you have the Sword of Light. So, head to Zaruza Cape.

At Zaruza Cape, you can find a woman named Sarah, at location: P3. To get
there, from Farei Castle, go South 1 screen, East 2, North 1, East 1, North
2, East 1, South 1, and East 1.

Talk to Sarah (サラ) and she says that she is on a journey to find her lost
lover. She says he went to Kifros, but never came back. She wants you to help
her find him and joins your party.

Sarah will be in your party for quite awhile, so it would be worthwhile to
build her up into a decent character. You'll want to buy her a Glass Rod,
available in many locations, but cheapest at Bishuu. Also, she needs a Dress
of Light, available in Colste, and a Coat of Light, available in a hidden
tool shop at location: B4. She can also learn some spells, so check the
"Magic" section of this guide and the "Shamans" subsection of the "Locations"
section to see which spells she can learn and where to go to learn them.

You can procrastinate and do that stuff after visiting the dungeon at Zaruza
Cape, though, since you're right next to it, and Sarah's level is high enough
that she'll probably be fine inside the dungeon. The Zaruza Cape Dungeon is 2
screens South of the location where you found Sarah.

The enemies here will be really weak for you now. Just make your way to the
locked chest at the end of the dungeon. Approach the chest and you will
automatically open it using the Zaruza Key (ザルザのかぎ). You get the Sword
of Light (ひかりのつるぎ), which can be equipped only onto your main
character.

With the Sword of Light, you will finally be able to pass the shaman that is
two screens North of Zeraana. If you look around this newly accessible area,
you will find a shaman hidden under a rock who says he likes cute things, but
that's all he says for now. Other than some gold, the only thing to do is to
head to location: O8, where there is a dungeon, which you pass through to
reach Kifros. Be warned, the enemies in Kifros are much stronger than you've
been facing, so you will need to gain some levels before you can deal with
them easily.

In town, a lady next to the church says she got a cross from the church
priest. You also hear that Masulina, Sarah's lover, went to the kingdom of
Jiou. Be careful, because some guy on the tool shop screen will steal 1000
gold from you if you talk to him.

Buy a Sky Sword (てんのつるぎ) for Rocky and the Armor of Light
(ひかりのよろい) for your main character.

There is a screen in town with 3 little girls. Talk to the one furthest to
the right and she will ask you to play with her. Reply "yes" (はい). She says
that she wants to play doctor. Say "no" (いいえ). Then she'll say she wants
to play dolls. Say "yes" and you'll receive a Doll (にんぎょう).

Sometime soon, you should take the Doll to the shaman at location: P5, which
is back in the Farei Kingdom, located 3 screens South and 1 East from the
cave which brought you to the kingdom of Kifros. He will trade you the Shield
of Light (ひかりのたて) for it.

Talk to the old man next to the spring to be bathed in holy water. This will
allow you to enter the nearby temple.

Talk to the king and he'll say that you should visit him after you've
collected the 3 statues.

Your next stop is Herekyatto Temple, location: N11. To get there from Kifros,
go 1 screen East, 3 South, 1 West, 3 South, 2 East, 2 North, and 1 West.

There is a locked door in the first screen of the temple which you can only
open if you've been bathed in holy water at Kifros Castle.

There's another locked door further into the temple that you can't open yet.
For now, head to the wedding and speak to everybody there. Sarah will receive
a Bouquet (ブーケ), which means she will find her lover.

---The Cross-----------------------------------------------------------------
Return to Kifros Castle and talk to the priest at the church. Select the
はなしを きく ("listen to story") option and the priest says that, since
you've met with the priest of Herekyatto Temple, he will give you a Cross
(じゅうじか).

The Cross will make hidden stairwells appear on the world map. Just like when
you search for hidden stairs under rocks, these stairways might lead to
chests with gold, or they might lead to something better. Go East 1 screen
from Kifros Castle and use the Cross to reveal stairs to a shaman who will
teach you Zerafu (ゼラフ), a more powerful revive spell. You can bring party
members back to life immediately when you use it, so you don't have to visit
a priest first.

There is another stairwell that can be found 2 screens East and 1 screen
South from Kifros Castle. There, a shaman will teach you the spell Pikara
(ピカラ), which you can use to illuminate caves in the same way that you
would use a Lantern.

Next, you want to go to the Kifros Dungeon, at location: N12. To get there
from Kifros Castle, go 1 screen East, then 3 screens South. Use the Cross to
reveal the hidden stairs to the dungeon.

After the fight, you will be in a cave with a chest. Open it to get the Key
of Light (ひかりのかぎ).

Don't forget you can use the Rifou spell to return to the entrance of the
dungeon.

---Flame Statue--------------------------------------------------------------
Return to Herekyatto Temple and go to the locked door that you couldn't pass
through before. You'll automatically open it with the Key of Light. Continue
on to find some stairs leading to a chest containing the Flame Statue
(ほのおのぞう). Now you have all the statues!

Return to Kifros Castle and talk to the king. He'll give you permission to
enter the kingdom of Jiou. To get there, pass back through the cave
(location: N8) that leads from Farei Kingdom to Kifros Kingdom. Then go back
to Colste Castle. Then, go 1 screen South, 1 West, 1 South, 1 West, and 2
North to get to a soldier guarding a bridge (location: C11) who will now let
you pass into the kingdom of Jiou.

Talk to everyone aroubd town to try to learn where Sarah's lover is. You hear
there's a youth with the Vessel of Light who went to Shakaato City.

The only other thing to do in town is buy Earth Armor (だいちのよろい) for
your main character. No one in your party can equip the flame equipment, so
ignore it for now.

Next, head to Jiou Castle, location: C16. To get there from Zuwaasu, go East
2 screens and North 1 screen.

Not much to do here. Buy a Staff of Light (ひかりのつえ) for Sarah, and visit
the king who asks you to save his kingdom and gives you the Earth Sword
(だいちのつるぎ), which is equipable by your main character.

A woman on the same screen as the medicine shop will sneeze on you and damage
you by 10 HP if you talk to her, just to give you a warning.

Talk to everybody in town to learn the whereabouts of Sarah's lover. You hear
that he was here, but now he's wandering around somewhere.

One of the guys on the screen with the restaurant will steal 1000 gold if you
talk to him.

Outside of town, go 1 screen East and 2 screens up. Search the upper-most
rock to find stairs leading to a chest containing the Earth Shield
(だいちのたて), equipable by your main character.

You need to find Sarah's lover. He is wandering around outside at location:
F14. To get there from Shakaato, go 2 screens East, 4 North, 6 West, 2 South,
and 1 East.

Talk to him and Sarah will leave your party. He'll give you the Vessel of
Light (ひかりのうつわ) and tell you to awaken the sleeping hero. None of this
happens if you haven't been to Shakaato City and talked to townspeople there,
even though Sarah's lover is here before that and you'd think she would
recognize him, but whatever.

Next, travel to the Jiou Dungeon, location: H13. To get there from the screen
with Sarah's lover, go East 2 screens and South 1. Search under a rock to
find the hidden stairs.

Make your way to the locked door at the end of the dungeon. With the Vessel
of Light in your possession, the door will open for you. Down the stairs,
you'll find the hero Shou (ショウ), who will now join your party.

---Light of Indora-----------------------------------------------------------
Shou will take the Flame Statue and put it in his inventory. Buy the flame
equipment for Shou. The Flame Sword and Flame Armor are in Shakaato. The
Flame Shield is in Zuwaasu. There are a few spells you can have Shou learn,
but I don't necessarily think it's worth the effort to go too far out of your
way for anything.

The final destinationis the Castle of God. But a guard won't let you in
without the Light of Indora.

To get the Light of Indora, go to the screen located 1 screen South from Jiou
Castle. On that screen is Rihitalia Lake. Notice as you walk around the
screen that light flashes on the screen periodically. Use the Vessel of
Light. Light rushes into the vessel from the lake and becomes the item Light
of Indora (インドラのひかり).

You are now able to enter the Castle of God. Make sure you have a few Sources
of Strength and some Sake before going since the dungeon is rather long. You
also might need to level up a bit, especially Shou. I had Shou at level 16
when I finished the game, but it is risky that you won't survive the final
boss battle when his level is that low. It took me two tries, but I felt
lucky to win the second time.

The Castle of God is at location: F15. Get there from Shakaato City by going
East 1 screen, North 1, West 1, North 2, and West 3.

The dungeon is rather long with strong enemies. Do your best to avoid fights
to conserve your HP and MP. If your path looks blocked by enemies, exit and
re-enter the screen and the enemies might be repositioned more favorably.

When you reach the room with stairs leading to the boss encounter, use items
or magic to maximize your HP, then enter the battle. All 3 of your characters
must be alive and present.

Boss: Watchman (ばんにん)
All 3 characters must use the statues they are holding. Your main character
uses the Earth Statue, Rocky uses the Sky Statue, and Shou uses the Flame
Statue. If they all use their statues before the boss kills them, the boss
will automatically die and you win the game. However, the boss will probably
get to act first and might paralyze or kill one of your characters before
they can act, in which case you cannot win. In that case, try again, or spend
some time leveling up. Good luck!

---Ending--------------------------------------------------------------------
The ending is you finally meet the "god" Baan. He was actually a computer
system that came to this planet on the spaceship with the original colony.
Using the power of the Light of Indora, it was able to maintain a healthy
atmosphere on the planet. However, when the Light of Indora was stolen, power
to this computer system was ceased and the planet's atmosphere degraded. The
planet became covered in desert and inhabited by demons.

With the return of the Light of Indora, the computer can be revived and the
planet's atmosphere can be restored to its previous state.

Here are some hex editor cheats to use in an emulator, contributed kindly by
doommaster1994. The first four digits are the address at which to change a
hex value, and the ## represent the value you wish to change this to.

0503 ## - How much health the enemy has. If you set it to 00, their picture
will disappear and they will die.
050F ## - How much damage will be dealt by an attacking character, enemy or
       ally.
