I.  INTRODUCTION
=============================================================================
Come on let's fight!  That's what you hear when you start Ikari Warriors 2:
Victory Road.  The road to victory will be long a hard though.  Ikari
Warriors 2 continues the same shoot to kill formula used in Ikari Warriors 1.
However, the game takes place on an alien world.  Therefore all the enemies
are aliens.  You also get different weapons.  Victory Road was released in
the arcades and ported to the NES.

This is the second of my Ikari Warriors guides covering the series.  It is
intended for use with the NES version only.  I doubt it will be of any use
for any other version of the game.  The game is fairly easy to finish if you
use the continue code.  This guide is written to guide a player through the
entire game without dying (or getting hit even).

III.  STORY
=============================================================================
(from instruction manual)
When we last saw Paul and Vince, they had saved the Colonel and were about to
head for home in a special plane given to them by the General.

But then, while in flight over the ocean, the sky suddenly blackens - the
ocean begins to churn - and the plane goes spinning!  A booming voice fills
the cockpit:  "Hear me, Warriors!  Zang Zip, the War Dog, has enslaved the
people of Earth.  Only you can save us from his grip of evil!"

Caught in a time warp, hurled thousands of years into the future, Paul and
Vince know they have no choice but to meet this impossible challenge head-on.
After all, they are professionals...they are the Ikari Warriors!

(my version)
Paul and Vince, are returning home (after winning Ikari Warriors) and get
caught in a storm.  Now they get blasted, warped, whatever to some place.
It's not Earth though.  Here they meet Zada who tells them to save his land,
Alexia Lomta, from Zang Zip.  Trapped in a strange place with no other
option, the Ikari Warriors accept the mission to defeat Zang Zip.

V.  GAMEPLAY
=============================================================================
Objective
---------
Run through each level and defeat the boss at the end.  Defeat all the levels
to win the game.

Sub-screen
----------
Press the SELECT button to bring up this screen.  There are several things
shown on the screen.  Your name (Paul/Vince) is shown at the top.  Your
current score, life total (HP), and heart total are listed to the right side.
All of your weapons and items are shown in their respective boxes.  Figure 1
below illustrates the sub-screen.

Figure 1.
                  +-------------+
  Name            | WP B   Item |
                  | WP A   End  |
                  +-------------+

+----------------+ +-------------+

You have four options to choose from.  All four are listed in the top right
box.  They are WP B, WP A, Item, and End.  WP B lets you change weapons
listed in the WP B box.  WP A lets you change weapons listed in the WP A box.
Item lets you change items listed in the Item box.

Weapons under WP B are fired by pressing the B button.  Weapons under WP A
are fired by pressing the A button.  You always have the machine gun in WP B
and both of WP A's weapons.  The other WP B weapons must be found.  Items may
be found or purchased in shops.

Barshop
-------
Barshops are marked with "Shop" signs in stages.  Some are unmarked.  All
require an admission fee.  Pay the fee in hearts.  You can then choose to buy
items or fight the bounty hunters for hearts.  If you choose to fight for
hearts, you will then select one of three bounty hunters (Clinjon, Epinda,
Branjosp).  The hunters are arranged in increasing difficulty starting from
the left.  The fights can win you some hearts.  You will lose all of your
hearts if you lose the fight though.  You will win more hearts for defeating
difficult bounty hunters.

Dark Mirrors
------------
In each stage will be some dark colored mirrors that appear at set locations.
Step near them to get warped to a new location.  You may play a mini-game or
fight a boss.  Win the fight or win/lose the mini-game to return to the point
in the stage where you warped.  Entering the mirrors is entirely up to you
and is not required to win the game.

=============================================================================
VI.  WEAPONS, ITEMS, AND SHOP LISTS
=============================================================================
Weapons
=======
B-type
------
These weapons are used to kill the majority of enemies of each stage.

Machine Gun
The machine gun is the basic weapon that you always get.  It is a pretty good
weapon since it can fire multiple shots in any direction.  Its weakness is
that it can't destroy some enemies.  Level 2 gun shoots a little farther.
Level 3 gun lets you fire bullets over walls & pits as indicated by red
bullets.  Level 4 gun is like level 3, only it fires a little farther.

Bazooka
The bazooka allows you to destroy rocks/walls without having to use grenades.
It can also hurt bosses.  Its weakness is that the shots take longer to
recover from so you can't fire quickly in many directions.  Upgrade the
weapon to shoot farther and get a wider attack.

Boomerang
This weapon will fly out and return to you.  All enemies in the way will be
killed.  This is the best weapon in the game since it can kill enemies to
your sides while firing in a different direction.  Its hit range is very wide
making it useful to hit enemies far away from you.  Its weakness is that you
can only fire three out and it takes longer to fire.  Its range is limited.
Upgrade the weapon to get better range.

Sword
This blade spins around you slicing up any enemy that gets close to you.  The
blade will spin around you.  Its weakness is that you have to be close to
enemies to attack them.  The sword cannot protect you against the stronger
shots from the enemy.  Using the sword will cause all enemy shots to become
homing bombs instead of regular shots.  This is the worst weapon in the game
because it strengthens enemy shots while having a very limited range.

A-type
------
These weapons are used primarily to destroying rocks/walls and for fighting
bosses.  Some enemies may also require you to use these weapons in order to
kill them.

Grenade
This weapon explodes on contact destroying enemies or rocks/walls.  Its
weakness is that you may only throw one grenade at a time.  It can only hit
targets that are a short distance from you so its hit range is very limited.
Upgrade the weapon to expand the size of its explosion.

Land Mine
This weapon is used to surprise your enemies or when you are stuck behind
rocks or walls.  Its weakness is that it requires you to plant it on the
ground.  This restricts its attack range to just a single spot.  Also, the
mine takes time to explode.  Upgrade the weapon to expand the size of the
explosion.

Items
=====
Items are found or purchased.  They have one use each and are carried with
you until you die.  All items except the arrow power are activated by
pressing the A button.  Arrow power is activated by pressing the B button.
The items are listed below in the order that they appear in the sub-screen
from top to bottom, left to right.

Thunder Power (light colored thunderbolt)
All enemies on the screen are killed by a lightning flash.

Quake Power (dark colored thunderbolt)
All enemies on the screen are frozen temporarily by a quake.

Wing Power
Fly over walls.  Can still get killed by enemies.

Armor Power
Enemy shots do not hurt you for a limited time.  You can also touch enemies
to kill them while wearing the armor.

Arrow Power
This arrow will kill any enemy including bosses (1 shot using B button) with
one shot.

Time Power
Return to shop in the previous level.

Life Power
Full HP recovery.

Bonus Score
Not an item that you can store but will add the amount indicated to your
current score.

Shops

=============================================================================
VII.  ENEMIES
=============================================================================
Here are all the enemies that you will encounter in the game.

Enemies
-------
Bocaj
Small little guy that tries to touch you.  A single shot is all you need to
kill this small fry.

Galango
A flying cyclops that fires shots at you.  Comes in a front form that flies
at you sideways.  His side form will face diagonal and fly diagonally towards
you.  Both forms will fire shots at you which are semi accurate.  More shots
will be fired in later stages.

Ishka
This guy looks like a balding old man.  However he fires shots out at you
from all directions.  He will fire them faster in the later stages.  Dodging
his shots will not be easy because of his accurate aim.

Lantzer
This monster carries a large shield.  He will block your shots.  He runs
sideways.  This can kill you if you get caught.  Use a grenade or land mine
to kill him.

Mini-suzka
A smaller version of suzka.

Raquell
Green monster than runs around sideways like a dog.  Will try to touch you.

Statue
The guardians at the start of every level after the first level.  They fire
homing bombs at you.

Stevo
Small monster that runs sideways very quickly.

Suzka
A big overgrown beetle monster that runs around sideways.

Bounty Hunters
--------------
Clinjon
This guy walks sideways slowly and fires single shots at a slow pace.

Epinda
This guy walks sideways and fires double shots at a medium pace.

Branjosp
This guy walks sideways quickly and fires double shot volleys at an equally
fast pace.

Bosses
------
Brittero
A long worm-like monster that fires shots from its head.

Bronz
Big headed monster with six small legs and two long arms.

Gibbel
Three headed dragonfly-like monster that fires its heads out at you.

Ikawo
Big head that flies around and fires shots out quickly.  Its strength lies in
hits speed.

Rinda
Looks like a deformed brain of sorts.  It has two front pincers that can
extend to hit you.  They will either do massive damage or kill you.

Demon Dog
An ugly looking guardian beast.  It has two long arms.

Zada
The soon to be king of Alexia Lomta.  He fires homing bombs at you.

=============================================================================
VIII.  WALKTHROUGH
=============================================================================
How to use this walkthrough
===========================
This walkthrough will guide you through the entire game.  It is possible to
go through the game without dying.  My strategy is designed to guide you
through without dying once (or even getting hit).  You can choose to try your
own strategy at any time.  Be aware that I can't guarantee that my strategy
will work if you don't follow it entirely to the letter.  My walkthrough will
assume that you are using level 1 machine guns and grenades/land mines.
Using more powerful weapons will make the strategies discussed even more
effective.  Use as much/little as you need.  The two player game is the exact
same as the single player except that the screen will not scroll forward
unless both players move up.

Helpful Advice/Rules
--------------------
1.  If you do not move the screen up after a period of time, then bombs will
   come raining down on you.
2.  You will lose all of your weapons, items, hearts, and score if you die.
3.  You have unlimited ammo so you should be firing nonstop.
4.  You will live longer if you get better weapons and/or items.

Stage 1
=======
Items found:  2 armor power, 2 bazooka, bonus score, 2 boomerang, grenade,
land mine, machine gun, quake power

"Come on!  Let's fight!"  Those words are shouted at you.  Learn your attacks
and try out your weapons (press SELECT to change them) now.  Then master the
sidestep (hold B while moving around) next.  Charge forward with your guns
blazing after you think you've had enough practice.  You'll see a raquell.
Shoot it up.  Get the boomerang.  Go forward a little.  You'll fight another
raquell and a bocaj.  Kill them both and then get the bazooka to the left.
Now you can switch weapons if you want.  I recommend the bazooka (for
destroying walls more easily).  Now charge forward and you'll run into more
bocajs and raquells.  Gun them all up.  Just watch out for the bocaj because
they like to touch you and you won't have enough time to get out of the way.
A raquell will appear from behind as you charge forward so watch out for it
as well.

Now you'll come across two boxes in the center of the screen.  Throw grenades
at them to open them.  There's a bazooka in the left one and a machine gun in
the right one.  Go forward and kill the raquell that appears.  Now there are
walls on both sides.  Throw grenades at the walls to open up paths through
them.  Be on the lookout for similar walls from now on.  While these walls
did not block the way forward, some walls do so be prepared to throw grenades
at all future walls.  I had you destroy these walls only to increase your
score.  You can also enter the sub-screen (press SELECT) and exit to remove
any walls in your way.  Unfortunately, this also removes any items that would
have appeared if you had destroyed the walls.  Also any weapons/items lying
on the ground and boxes will also be removed so enter the sub-screen only
after you have grabbed everything on the screen or only as a last resort.

Now go forward.  A lone bocaj appears to the right.  Take it out.  Then get
the quake power to the left.  Now go forward until you see a dark mirror
appear.  Now the mirror leads to a bonus game where you shoot targets.  You
can win/lose hearts.  You can lose all of your hearts if you hit none of the
targets so I suggest you avoid the mirror.  If you wish to enter anyway,
here's how to win the bonus game.  Skip the next part if you skip the mirror.

*** Dark Mirror:  Shooting Gallery ***
10 targets will fly out alternating from both the left and right sides.  The
goal is to hit the targets with your shots.  Your targeting crosshair is the
grey oval near the top of the screen.  You can use the D-pad to move the
crosshair in all directions.  The targets will start flying out from the left
side.  To hit the target, you must fire a shot at it so that the bullet hits
BOTH the crosshair and target itself.  The hit range is relatively wide so
you don't have to perfectly align the crosshair and target although it they
should be close enough to each other.  Here is a diagram of the screen and
where you should put your crosshair in order to hit the targets.

Figure 2.

__                       __
 |                     |
__|                     |__
|_|          S          |_|     S - crosshair's initial position
|_|     2         1     |_|     1 - position to hit left targets
|_|                     |_|     2 - position to hit right targets
|_|                     |_|
|_|                     |_|
__|                     |__
 |                     |
__|                     |__

In the above figure there are three spots:  S, 1, and 2.  Your crosshair
starts off at position S.  The other two spots are where you should move your
crosshair to in order to hit the targets.  Move the crosshair to position 1
first to hit the left target since the targets start from the left.  Then
move to position 2 to hit the right target.  Now alternate between them to
destroy the rest of the targets.  I've tried to draw the figure to resemble
the room.  To the sides are pillars.  Then there are five smaller blocks
under it.  You can use these as reference points to aid you in positioning
the crosshair properly.  While it's not clearly shown in the figure, both
spots 1 and 2 are between the top two smaller blocks below the pillar.  You
will get hearts for hitting the targets.  Here is the complete list.

*** end of Dark Mirror:  Shooting Gallery ***

Don't get too close or you'll get sucked in.  The wall below the mirror has a
breakable section on its right side.  You can also stay to the left side of
the screen and destroy the left section of the wall above the mirror.  Go
whichever path you want.  Two galangos appear in the center.  Throw grenades
to kill them while you avoid their shots.  It won't be hard since the shots
move slowly.  Now a wall will block your path forward.  Stand in the center
or against the right side of the left wall.  Move up towards the north wall.
Throw a grenade just before you touch up against the wall.  The grenade
should land and kill the two galangos that will appear as you move up.  Now
destroy the left side of the wall to open a path forward.  Then you'll fight
stevos.  These little guys are fast but are easy to kill if you just stand
and shoot.  Keep your guns blazing as you head up.

You'll see two boxes in the center.  Then a galango will appear from the
northeast.  Dodge its shots and kill it before proceeding.  Now grenade the
two boxes to find armor power in the right box.  Don't get it just yet.
Stand below where the left box was (use the crater from the box's spot as a
reference point).  Fire repeatedly north and walk up while still firing.
You'll shoot and kill the galango that appears above the northwest box.  Now
get the armor power.  Then grenade the next two boxes above to find a grenade
in the left box.  Kill the stevos that appear as you head up.  Now move up
slowly but enough to get the grenade.  Then stop moving.  If everything went
according to plan, you should see a black shadow at the top of the screen.
Move up a little more if you don't see it.  Now make sure that you are
standing below where the grenade was.  You should be under the crater of the
box with the grenade.  Now fire rapidly and walk up to the grenade box's
crater.  You will kill a galango that appears in the center of the screen.
Two other galangos appear on either side.  They will fire shots at you.

Stand in the crater and you'll avoid the shots completely.  Do not move the
screen up any further until you've taken care of the galangos on the screen.
Take out the left galango first.  Wait for its shot to pass by.  Then go left
and shoot/grenade it quickly.  I find that sidestepping (press and hold B
button) in this situation is the easiest way to kill it.  Now the right
galango will adjust its shots since you moved.  Just dodge them and line up
near the right wall.  The galango will fire shots south now.  Stand to the
left of them and shoot or grenade the galango.  Then go to the left wall.
Stand completely against it so that your shots are in the wall's shadows.
Now head up while firing to kill another galango.  Do not move left or right.
Continue heading up to kill one more galango afterwards.  The stevo that also
appeared will run to the right and off the screen.

Now stand against the left side of the wall to the right that is in the
center of the screen.  Now head up and a galango appears.  Stand on the
northwest corner of the wall that you are leaning against.  Then throw a
grenade.  You'll not only kill the galango, but also break the wall section
to find a bonus score.  Now the far right wall has some breakable sections so
grenade them for points.  Then head up and you'll find a shop.  Enter it and
pay the (easily affordable) admission.

Shop 1a.
========
Item              Price
------------------------
Thunder Power     10
Quake Power       10
Wing Power        20
Armor Power       30

You can buy an item or fight for hearts.  If you want to fight, then do that
first because you will leave the shop if you buy anything.  Just be aware
that you will lose all of your hearts if you lose the fight.  Select your
opponent from the trio of Clinjon, Epinda, and Branjosp.  The left one
(Clinjon) is easy, the middle one (Epinda) is medium, and the right one
(Branjosp) is hard to kill.  Then prepare to fight.  Here are the strategies
for all three.  You can only get hit a maximum of 5 times (the sixth will end
the fight).

Bounty Hunter Clinjon
---------------------
Clinjon fires single shots out slowly with each pass.  Up to two shots may be
on the screen at once.  Start sidestepping your way to the left.  Now the
floor is made up of tiles.  Stand on the fourth column of tiles from the
left.  Clinjon should be moving back and forth at the top while firing shots
south.  The left shot should be between the second and third tile columns.
The right shot should be between the fifth and sixth tile column.  Either
way, both shots miss you entirely.  Now stand on the fourth row of tiles from
the bottom.  Clinjon should still be firing southward.  Do not move anywhere
else or Clinjon's shots may change their trajectory.  Now just stand here and
throw grenades.  You'll know that they hit because there will be no explosion
so it looks like Clinjon is "absorbing" them.  He'll go down after 8
grenades.  You'll get 3 hearts for winning.

Bounty Hunter Epinda
--------------------
Epinda fights exactly like Clinjon except that he fires two shots per pass.
The same strategy that worked against Clinjon also works here against Epinda.
Stand on the fourth column of tiles from the left and fourth row of tiles
from the bottom.  Then throw grenades at Epinda.  Eight grenades will take
him out.  You'll get 5 hearts for winning.

Bounty Hunter Branjosp
----------------------
Branjosp is the toughest of the three.  He fires shots out very quickly.
They are fast enough such that the strategy for the previous two hunters will
not work here.  The trick to beating Branjosp is to always keep moving.
Sidestepping during this fight is optional but it does make winning a lot
easier.  Stand on the fourth or fifth row of tiles from the bottom.  You'll
be close enough to hit Branjosp with your grenades (move up a little closer
if you are not close enough).  Now run left or right (your choice) and
Branjosp will follow after you.  Quickly move up to the fifth row of tiles
from the bottom (or as close as you need to) and throw a grenade north.  If
you time it correctly, Branjosp will walk into it.

Now move left or right again to avoid the shots and Branjosp will follow.
Now grenade him again and then repeat this tactic until you reach the edge of
the screen.  Go south to give yourself some more space to dodge Branjosp's
shots.  Then go to the other side of the screen and repeat the strategy all
over again.  You can alternate between moving left and right to avoid having
to reach the edge of the screen but doing this will require more effort on
your part to dodge the shots.  Branjosp will go down after 8 grenades.
You'll get 10 hearts for winning.

Now buy something if you wish.  It isn't necessary to buy anything.  I
recommend either thunder or armor power.  Now head up and you'll see another
shop.  Enter and pay the admission.

Shop 1b
=======
Item              Price
------------------------
Arrow Power       30
Quake Power       40
Life Power        50
Thunder Power     60

There are higher prices here.  I strongly recommend that you buy either the
arrow power or life power.  The other two could have been purchased at the
last shop for a lower price.  Fight if you want to.

Head up after you leave the shop.  You'll see two walls behind the shop.
Both walls have breakable sections.  The left wall has a land mine in it that
you can get.  Now stand in the passage that you made through the left wall.
Stay near the left side if you can.  Now fire and head up.  You can also
throw grenades while firing for good measure.  Three galangos will appear on
the screen.  You'll kill the left one.  Ignore the other two and keep running
up.  A shot from the left galango will just barely pass you.  You'll also
avoid the shots from the other two galangos as well.  Now to the north are
two pillars.  Grenade them both to find armor power in the left one and a
boomerang in the right one.  Head up to fight the boss.

Boss:  Rinda

Rinda is one ugly boss.  It looks like a big blob with claws.  Anyway, Rinda
will circle around.  It will use its extendable claws to attack you if you
get too close.  Its only attack is to use its claws so keep your distance.

Start the fight by immediately running to the bottom of the screen.  Rinda's
claws should miss you if you ran fast enough.  Now use the craters from the
pillars that you grenaded as a reference point.  Stand just above the left
crater so that your back foot is just touching the crater's top edge.  Rinda
will do nothing else but circle around since you are out of claw range.  Now
stand there and throw grenades up at Rinda.  They should hit Rinda from this
distance.  You'll know that they hit because Rinda will flash red.  You can
throw two grenades to hit Rinda if you time it correctly (throw the first one
when Rinda comes down and the second when Rinda moves to the right).  You can
also use the bazooka to hurt Rinda.  Just stand in the same spot as you would
for grenades and fire away.  In the rare event that Rinda comes down a little
more than expected, just run south until you are out of the claw attack
range.  Rinda will be defeated after 15 hits.

Go north after you win.  Destroy both columns for points.  Get the key.  Now
the wall in front of you has two faces on it.  Grenade the faces to find an
opening.  Pick whichever opening you want and enter it.  Note that the faces
can't be destroyed until you pick up the key.  You'll get one of two
possibilities now.  Both are tunnels.  The first possibility is a tunnel
filled with galangos.  The second possibility is a tunnel filled with weapon
powerups.  I'm sure you don't need instructions for the weapon filled tunnel
so here's how to pass the galango tunnel.

Galango tunnel
--------------
Galangos will line the left and right walls waiting for you to approach.  If
they are on the left wall then stand against the left wall.  Fire and throw
grenades north.  Now slowly move up to the galango.  Don't get too close or
it will move out.  Wait for it to fire a shot.  Then move up and throw
grenades and shoot.  Your grenade or shots will kill it as it moves out.
Dodge any shots that get fired.

If the galango lines the right wall, then stand near the right wall.  Don't
stand directly next to it or you won't be able to fire north.  Sidestep to
the left until you can fire north without your shots getting blocked by the
wall.  Now slowly move up to a galango.  Wait for it to fire a shot.  Then
charge up and attack while doing so.  You should hit the galango as it moves
out to attack.

Repeat these tactics against the remaining galangos and head up to the end of
the tunnel.

Stage 2
=======
Items found:  arrow power, life power, 2 machine gun, time power, wing power

You see two statues.  They will attack you with homing bombs from their
swords.  The left one will attack you when you start the level.  Quickly run
east and then south to the opening in the middle of the bottom of the screen
in order to avoid the homing bomb.  Hopefully you'll dodge it and the
subsequent explosion.  Stay at the bottom of the screen until the bombs stop.
Now slowly move left, along the bottom of the screen until you are under the
left statue.  Throw grenades at it.  You will destroy the statue if you hit
the top part (i.e. near the head).  It will drop a machine gun.  Now walk
along the bottom of the screen to the right side.  The other statue will not
attack as long as you stay far enough away.  Stand under it.  Then throw
grenades up at it and you'll find another machine gun.  Get the machine gun.

The next part will be easy if you have a boomerang or hard if you don't.  Now
equip the boomerang if you have it.  Head up.  You'll soon face lantzers.
These guys carry shields which protect them from all attacks except grenades,
land mines, and (of course) boomerangs.  Using grenades and land mines is
tricky so boomerangs save you a lot of trouble.  One hit will kill them.  If
you don't have boomerangs then you are going to have to time your grenades
carefully or just avoid the lantzers altogether.  Lantzers move sideways
primarily and slowly move south.  They cannot move north though.  That is the
weakness that you need to exploit.  They also seem to have a pattern of
moving sideways in an alternating fashion.  For example, a lantzer will move
left to right and then move south.  Then it will move right to left and then
south again.  While this pattern doesn't always work (don't move too far left
or right), you can rely on it to some degree.  Just keep your distance from
the lantzers and run north as fast as you can.  If you get too close and
don't think you can make it, then just run south.  This is certainly better
than standing next to the lantzer which basically spells death.  Feel free to
use the armor power to protect yourself.

Head north until you see a dark mirror.  The mirror leads to a fight with a
new boss enemy, Bronz, who fights exactly like Rinda.  It's not worth
fighting so avoid the mirror.  Here's how to beat Bronz for those who wish to
fight.

*** Dark Mirror:  Bronz ***
Just run to the bottom of the screen.  Stand on the left side.  Then slowly
move up and throw grenades.  You'll eventually hit Bronz with them.  Keep
throwing grenades or using the bazooka until Bronz dies.  Then grab the key
to leave.
*** end of Dark Mirror:  Bronz ***

Get the wing power to the right.  Now head up until you are next to the box.
Throw a grenade to the left to open the box.  Time power is inside the box.
Get it while avoiding the mirror.  Then head up.  More lantzers appear.  Try
to stay away from the water if you can.  Destroy the next box above to find
thunder power.  The next two boxes to the left and right don't contain
anything.  Destroy them anyway for points and continue heading up.  There's
water in the center.  Try to avoid it as best you can because you move slower
in water than on land.  Kill/avoid the lantzers that appear.  You'll see
three boxes in a triangle formation.  They don't have anything inside.  Head
up and kill some more lantzers.  Then destroy the next three boxes that you
come across.  They don't have anything either.  On the left side is life
power.  Pick it up and use it if you are hurt.  Now there is a great lake in
front of you so you'll have to enter the water now.  Continue north and
you'll find a shop.  Use the life power if you are hurt before you enter.

Shop 2
======
Item              Price
------------------------
Thunder Power     25
Wing Power        25
Arrow Power       50
Life Power        60

Buy the life power if you don't have one in your inventory.  Don't buy
anything else though.

Leave the shop.  Then equip the boomerang if it isn't already on.  Stand
against the left side of the shop.  Aim northeast and use the stop-action
(press and hold B button) to "lock" your aim northeast.  Head up and throw
grenades.  Three galangos will appear.  The center one should die from either
your grenade or shots (higher powered weapons are a big help here).  The
shots from the left galango will just miss you.  Stand on the northwest
corner of the shop to avoid the right galango's shots.  Throw a grenade to
kill the left galango.  Now you will have killed the right galango if you had
a high powered weapon.  Otherwise ignore it.  Now sidestep left until your
machine gun bullets are fired just right of the right side of your life
meter.  Then charge up and fire away.  You'll kill both galangos that appear.
Head up and you'll find some more boxes.  The top one contains arrow power.
Grab it and then move down and to either side.  Move up after you are safely
away from the center of the screen.  A dark mirror appears just above the
arrow power's box.  The mirror leads to a fight with Gibbel, a new boss
enemy.  It's not worth it so avoid the mirror.  Here's how to beat Gibbel for
those who wish to fight.

*** Dark Mirror:  Gibbel ***
This fight is trivially easy if you have the bazooka.  Otherwise it's a
little more difficult.  Gibbel has three heads and will fly around in a
circle.  It will fire out heads at you.  They move slowly so dodging them is
easy.  You only need to avoid the heads.  Don't get so close that Gibbel can
touch you.  Stay within grenade range and fire away.  You can destroy the
heads with grenades if and only if they get caught in the grenade's
explosion.  An easy way to take them out early is to run to the bottom of the
screen when the fight starts.  Then stand on the fourth column of tiles from
the left.  Throw a grenade up and it will kill all three heads if you timed
it correctly.  Then the fight is even easier as Gibbel just flies around
doing little else.  Just keep throwing grenades and you'll win.  If you have
a bazooka, just let her rip and you'll toast Gibbel's heads off with one or
two shots.  Just don't get too close that Gibbel touches you.  Then just keep
firing and Gibbel will be toast.  You'll get a key.  Grab it to leave.
*** end of Dark Mirror:  Gibbel ***

Head up and destroy the last box.  Then go up to fight the boss.

Boss:  Bronz
This boss will be familiar to those of you that entered the first dark mirror
in this stage.  For everyone else, this boss is nothing more than Rinda in a
new shape and body.  Bronz uses the exact same tactics as Rinda.  Therefore,
it is also vulnerable to the exact same strategy.  Stay near the bottom of
the screen.  Stand on the left side.  Slowly move up and throw grenades.
You'll eventually hit Bronz with them (hits are indicated with a red flash).
Keep throwing grenades or using the bazooka until Bronz dies.  It will take
15 hits to kill Bronz.

Head up and destroy both pillars on either side.  Then get the key above.
Destroy the faces on the wall to find openings.  Enter one of them to a
tunnel.  For the strategy on the tunnels, see near the end of stage 1's
walkthrough.

Stage 3
=======
Items found:  bonus score, grenade, life power, 2 machine gun, 2 sword

The two statues are back.

Now stand on top of the right statue's hand.  This is done easily by
sidestepping.  You want to position yourself so that the statue blocks your
rightward movement.  Now aim north and hold the B button down to fire
rapidly.  Then slowly step upward by tapping UP on the D-pad.  Eventually a
galango will appear.  Stop moving up when it appears.  Your shots will kill
it before it can fire a shot out.  Now sidestep (keep holding B button) to
the left edge of the screen so that you are leaning against it.  Now aim and
fire northward as you head up.  A mini-suzka will appear.  Ignore it.  You'll
encounter a galango next.  You'll kill it with your shots.  Then another
mini-suzka appears.  Stop moving when it appears.  Just stand still and fire
away.  It will walk right into your line of fire.  Now resume heading up.
You'll kill another galango.  Then behind it will be a mini-suzka.  Do the
same thing as before.  Stop and let it walk into your line of fire.

Then head up again.  Two mini-suzkas and a galango appear on the right side.
Ignore them and keep heading up.  You'll kill another galango.  Then you'll
encounter and kill one more galango.  Then you'll see a wall to the north.
Walk close enough to it so that you can throw grenades at it.  Now the wall
is made up of smaller bricks.  Count the third and fourth bricks from the
left.  Throw a grenade at them to reveal a hidden passage.  You can also
grenade the face on the right side to reveal another hidden passage.  Now
line yourself up so that you are standing below the left passage.  Fire away
as you head up.  You'll kill the galango that appears.  Now the rest of the
stage will be a huge maze of walls.  You'll need to grenade certain sections
to open up hidden paths.  The entire maze is shown in figure 3 below.  I've
drawn the original map on the left side.  The right side shows you all of the
sections that can be destroyed.  Refer to figure for additional
details/notation.  Please note that you read the map from the bottom going
upward.

               START HERE

Since I have drawn out all the sections that can be destroyed in figure 3
above, I won't be telling you to destroy every section.  That choice is
entirely up to you.  Instead, I will focus on telling you how to kill the
enemies that appear.  I will guide you through the maze using a path that
lets you kill the enemies and get all the items.  Ok, you should be standing
in the left passage at the bottom of the maze right now.  Try to stand closer
to the right side of the passage rather than the left.  Now head up.  An
ishka appears above you and slightly to the left.  It will fire shots
downward.  They will miss if you are standing slightly to the right.  Grenade
the ishka and then grenade the face in the middle.  Line yourself under the
opening that you made and fire as you head up.  An ishka will appear in the
center and walk down right into your line of fire.

Head up and you'll find a box.  Grenade it.  Then grenade the box to the
right since you're in range anyway.  There's a box enclosed in some walls
above you.  Grenade it now to find a grenade inside.  Now grenade the wall
that is to the box's right side.  You'll open up a path.  Don't get the
grenade just yet.  You should see a wall section that is to the left of the
walls surrounding the grenade.  Lean against that wall section's right side.
Then head up slowly.  Stop moving up when you see an ishka appear.  It will
fire shots downward if you are standing close enough to the wall.  Since the
wall is also impeding his progress, just step back and throw a grenade at
him.  Now you should see a box that is north of the grenade.  Stand under it
and grenade it from afar to find a sword.  Then look at the shadow that is
left of the sword.  Line yourself so that your left hand is next to the
shadow's rightmost edge.  Your shots should be firing just to the left of the
sword.  Now hold the B button down to lock your aim north and move up.  An
ishka appears.  Quickly walk back south until you lean against the southern
wall.  If you do this correctly, the ishka will keep firing shots southward
which will miss you.  The ishka will then walk right into your line of fire.
Now go around and get the grenade from before.

Then destroy the far right wall to open a path.  Line yourself in the path on
either the far left or far right sides (sidestep to make lining up easier).
Now head up and an ishka appears above.  His shots will miss you if you lined
up properly.  Now grenade/shoot him.  Then you should have noticed that a
dark mirror appeared above the sword at the same time that the ishka did.  Do
not get near it.  The mirror leads to a fight with a new boss enemy, Ikawo.
Ikawo is hard to kill so stay away from the mirror.  Don't bother trying to
get the sword because you'll just get sucked in the mirror.  The only way I
think you can get the sword is in a two player game in which you don't scroll
the screen enough to get the mirror to appear.  For those of you who still
wish to fight Ikawo, read the next part below.  Otherwise skip past it.

*** Dark Mirror:  Ikawo ***
This flying head is a real pain to fight.  That's because he'll fire double
shots out very quickly.  To make matters worse, Ikawo will fly just as fast
as you can run.  This makes dodging his shots more difficult.  You can forget
about using arrow power because it won't work here for some strange reason.
Thankfully, this is the only place in the entire game that you fight him.
You will want to keep on the move during this fight.  Ikawo follows you
around almost in a circular motion.  You'll want to always be turning so that
you and Ikawo are never lined up across or up and down from each other.  This
will let you avoid all of Ikawo's horizontal and vertical shots.  His
diagonal shots will be a lot harder to dodge because their angle changes as
he moves around.  You might consider using land mines instead of grenades
since they'll be easier to hit Ikawo with.  If you have a bazooka, then use
it.  15 hits will kill Ikawo.  The best advice is to quickly get lots of hits
early in the fight when Ikawo is at the top of the screen.  The rest is luck
since Ikawo's movements are erratic.  Get the key to leave after you win.
*** end of Dark Mirror:  Ikawo ***

You should have opened up a path as a side effect of grenading the ishka near
the face.  Head up through this path.  You'll see a box.  Grenade it.  Now
walk up into the crater it left behind.  An ishka will appear to the left.
It should fire shots to the right.  The shots will miss you if you stay in
the crater.  Now turn left and get as close as you can to the ishka's shots
without getting hit.  Then go left until you're in grenade range.  Then
grenade the ishka when you are in range.  Now there's a box to the left.
Grenade the wall to the right of the box to open a passage.  Go through and
head up the center of the screen.  You'll see a box to the left.  Destroy the
horizontal wall to the right of the box to open a path up.  Then grenade the
box to find life power inside.  Stand in the shadow of the left wall.  Then
grenade the wall section to the right of the life power and slightly above
where the horizontal wall was.  You'll open a path to the life power.  Then
go get it.

Now head up and you have two choices.  The first is to destroy the left wall
section and head up to find a bonus score in a box towards the north.  The
second choice is to destroy either the center wall section or right wall
section and head up to a shop.  Taking either choice prevents you from
getting the other choice's item/shop.  The choice is up to you although I
prefer taking the second choice just because the shop is more useful than
10,000 points.  My strategy chooses the second choice but if you wish to, you
can take the first choice.  Skip to the next paragraph if you take the second
choice.  Just charge up and shoot all the enemies in your way.  Grenade the
walls in your way to find passages through.  Destroy the box that you come
across for the bonus score.  Then destroy the remaining walls as you head up.
There's another box that you can destroy for a sword.  Then grenade the last
wall to open a way through.  Head up to eventually fight the boss.

Head up.  Grenade the wall section in the center of the screen.  You'll open
a path.  Then go up and kill the stevo that appears.  You'll see a shop.
Don't enter it yet.  First go to the right side of the screen.  Then move up
until you are pushing against the shop's south wall.  Then a galango will
appear above you.  Quickly toss a grenade to kill it before it fires off a
shot.  Don't worry if it does because the shot will still miss you.  Now you
still have another enemy to kill before you enter the shop.  Move south away
from the shop's door so you don't accidentally enter prematurely.  Now go to
the left side of the shop.  Move up and a galango appears.  Throw a grenade
at it.  A stevo will also be running around.  Kill it off.  Now enter the
shop.

Shop 3
======
Item              Price
------------------------
Wing Power        30
Armor Power       60
Thunder Power     70
Life Power        70

Buy the life power only if you need it.  Then head out of the shop.  There
won't be any enemies since you killed them off earlier.  If you had entered
the shop without doing so, then you would be fighting them now.  Anyway, lean
against the wall to the left of the shop so that you're standing in its
shadow.  Now slowly move up.  Stop when you see a galango fly at you.  Do not
move.  Keep firing.  The galango will fly into your line of fire and its shot
will pass you safely.  Now continue to move up.  Slowly move up until another
galango appears.  It will appear from the right side.  Stop moving when it
appears.  Keep firing northward and let it approach.  It will fire a shot at
you that will barely miss you.  Then it will fly right into your bullets.
Now ignore the stevo to the left since it can't reach you anyway.

This next part is tricky.  You'll need to sidestep carefully around the wall
directly to your north.  Then stand against the wall so that you are in its
shadow like before.  The difference this time is that you'll need to take a
small step to the right so tap the D-pad RIGHT very quickly to take a small
step.  Be sure to hold the B button down so you don't lose your aim
northward.  It is critical that you take just a step or else the next part
will fail.  The best way to verify that you have indeed moved the proper
amount is to fire.  If your bullet is half in the shadow and half outside of
it, then you are in the correct position.  Otherwise, move back to the left
and try it again.

When you finally do get in position, quickly charge up and have your guns
blazing.  Galangos will appear and you'll kill them without getting hurt.
Throw a grenade immediately after you kill the second galango, but keep
running until you hit the wall.  The grenade will hit the third galango and
kill it before it fires a shot at you if everything goes according to plan.
Now a fourth galango will be flying on the right side.  Quickly turn right
and fire at it before it can fire shots at you.  A stevo was caught in the
wall while you were blasting galangos so kill it now.  Then grenade the face
and head on up.

You'll see a box to the left.  Destroy it to find a sword inside.  Then
grenade the wall section to the right of the sword to open a path to it.  Get
the sword.  Then destroy the right part of the horizontal wall.  Head up and
grenade the wall's third and fourth bricks from the right to open a passage
through.  Then head up until you fight the boss.

Boss:  Gibbel
Gibbel is a three headed flying monster.  You will be familiar with this boss
if you entered the dark mirror in the last stage.  Gibbel will attack by
shooting out its heads at you.  Up to three heads can be fired out.  They
move very slowly so it's pretty easy to dodge as long as you keep far enough
away.  The heads can come at you diagonally so be ready to move out of their
way in that situation.  This fight is very easy if you have the bazooka.  If
you have the bazooka, simply stand within its attack range.  Then fire away
and you'll destroy Gibbel's heads.  Then just sit and attack until it is
dead.  You need to destroy all of the heads or Gibbel won't die.

It's more difficult without it but it's still manageable.  The first thing
you have to do is to eliminate Gibbel's heads.  This is done by tossing a
grenade and catching the heads in the explosion.  There are two craters at
the top of the screen.  Use these as reference points.  Pick either one
although I prefer the left side.  Using either crater as a reference point,
position yourself under them at the bottom of the screen.  Now aim north.
Move left or right to avoid Gibbel's heads.  Now when you see an opening and
when Gibbel is moving down towards you, quickly move back under the craters
and toss a grenade north.  It will explode and destroy all or most of
Gibbel's heads if you did it correctly.  If not, then simply toss another
grenade or two until you destroy the remaining heads.  Now Gibbel is totally
defenseless.  Just move up until you are within your grenade's range.  Then
simply stand and throw grenades at Gibbel until you defeat it.  It will take
10 grenades after you destroy the last head before it dies.  You must destroy
all of the heads or Gibbel will never die.

Head up and get the key.  Destroy one or both of the wall faces.  Then choose
an opening and enter.  Both openings lead to tunnels.  For the strategy on
the tunnels, see near the end of stage 1's walkthrough.

Stage 4
=======
Items found:  armor power, bonus score, boomerang, grenade, land mine, life
power, 2 machine gun, thunder power, time power

Two statues open the level as usual.  They will attack you with homing bombs
from their swords.  The left one will attack you when you start the level.
Quickly run east and then south to the opening in the middle of the bottom of
the screen in order to avoid the homing bomb.  Hopefully you'll dodge it and
the subsequent explosion.  Stay at the bottom of the screen until the bombs
stop.  Now slowly move left, along the bottom of the screen until you are
under the left statue.  Throw grenades at it.  You will destroy the statue if
you hit the top part (i.e. near the head).  It will drop a machine gun.  Now
walk along the bottom of the screen to the right side.  The other statue will
not attack as long as you stay far enough away.  Stand under it.  Then throw
grenades up at it and you'll find another machine gun.  Get the machine gun.

Now you have two ways to pass the next part.  A lot of galangos are going to
be appearing on both sides.  You can choose to run up the middle slightly to
the left and quickly turn and shoot all the galangos or you can do it the
safe and slow way.  I'm going to be doing it the safe and slow way.  First
position yourself so that you are standing directly to the right of the
health meter.  This is approximately the same as standing next to the left
statue's hand.  Move up slowly and fire and toss grenades as you head up.
Stop when you see a galango appear.  It will die.  Hopefully it won't fire a
shot at you.  It sometimes does so be ready to dodge.  Now stand in the
center of the screen.  Remember where you are.  Now imagine that there is
another you standing to your right.  Move over to that other you.  Now you
should be standing a little to the right of the center of the screen.  Get
your guns blazing and head up.  You'll kill a galango that appears.  Don't
get the heart.  You'll be using it as a reference point.

Now sidestep to the left until you are to the right of the health meter just
like earlier.  Now head up and fire away.  You'll kill a galango that
appears.  Now get the heart from the earlier galango that you killed.  Head
up and fire away and toss grenades.  You will kill two more galangos that
appear.  Now move to the left edge.  Turn your aim to the northeast
direction.  Lock it by pressing and hold the B button.  Now just run up the
left edge of the screen while keeping your aim locked.  Several galangos will
appear.  You'll kill the ones to the left and dodge the shots from the ones
to the right.  Keep running up until you hit a wall.  You will be standing
next to a torch with horns.  There's another one on the right side of the
screen.  Grenade them both.

The right torch contains time power.  Get it and then grenade the stairwells
above.  You'll uncover thunder power in the left stairwell.  Stand directly
under the thunder power as you get it.  Now move up slightly to cause an
ishka to appear.  It will be firing shots directly to the south.  Sidestep to
the right until you are next to its line of fire.  Then move close enough to
toss a grenade at it.  Now the stairwells you destroyed left two craters in
the ground each.  Stand just to the right of the left craters.  You should be
in the lighter colored ground that is between the left craters and the dark
colored ditch that runs down the center of the screen.  Now slowly move up by
tapping UP on the D-pad.  You'll cause an ishka to appear to the left.  It
will be firing shots southward.  It is out of your grenade range so slowly
move up again.  When I say slowly, I mean it.  This next part can't be
rushed.

A dark mirror will appear to the right side along with another ishka.  This
second ishka's shots will be coming at an angle but they will all miss.
Throw grenades at the left ishka.  They should kill it.  If not, then simply
inch upward until your grenades hit.  Now that the left ishka is dead, you
must deal with the right one.  First run back to the southwest corner.  The
ishka will be firing two-shot volleys at you.  Stand as close to the line of
fire without getting hit.  Now observe the ishka's firing rate.  There is an
opening between the shots.  Run through them when you see the opportunity.
Now run close to the ditch's right side.  The ishka will adjust its firing
direction to now aim south.  Keep firing and slowly inch up to the ishka
until you kill it with your shots.  You'll be very close to the dark mirror
so step back.  The mirror leads to a fight with a new boss enemy, Brittero.
If you wish to fight, then read the next part.  Otherwise skip over it.

*** Dark Mirror:  Brittero ***
This snakelike boss is a pain to fight.  Its attack is to move/slither around
and fire single shots from its head.  The head looks different from the rest
of its body so be able to distinguish it.  This is one of those boss fights
where I strongly recommend that you use the arrow power to win but it won't
work in dark mirrors for some strange reason.  It looks like you are stuck
fighting the old fashioned way.  You'll want keep the B button pressed to
lock your aim north.  Brittero's head is the only place you can hurt it.
Therefore, you will want to throw grenades at the head while stepping
backwards.  Don't try to use land mines because they are too slow and you
need to be close for them to be effective.  Using the bazooka, if you have
it, will make this battle trivial.  Just aim for its head and watch out for
its shots.

If you have to use grenades, stepping backwards will keep you within grenade
range since Brittero will be moving towards you.  Don't forget to also move
left or right to keep yourself within grenade range.  Hold both the B button
to lock your aim and the A button to throw grenades out as fast as possible.
Brittero starts the fight in the center of the screen at the top.  You can
stand to either side but standing to the right of Brittero is the easier to
hit its head since the grenades are thrown with your left hand.  Now quickly
toss grenades repeatedly.  Brittero will slowly come down diagonally after
you.  Just step southwest if you are left of Brittero or southeast if you are
to the right of Brittero to adjust for its movement and to also keep yourself
within grenade range.  If everything is done correctly (i.e. you moved
diagonally away just enough), Brittero will keep firing shots southward which
miss you.  Just slowly move diagonally back and Brittero will go down before
you run out of space.  Although you shouldn't run out of pace if you keep the
A button pressed down the entire time, there may be a chance that you do.  If
you do get cornered, just run away from Brittero to the other side of the
screen and repeat the grenade assault all over again.  15 hits are required
to defeat Brittero.
*** end of Dark Mirror:  Brittero ***

Destroy the torches below the mirror if you haven't already done so.  Now
stand in the left part of the ditch so that your left hand is still inside
the ditch itself.  Move up and you'll kill an ishka.  A second ishka will
also appear from the right and start running at you sideways.  Just stand
still and fire straight up.  It will run right into your line of fire.  Now
destroy the torches.  You'll find land mines in the right torch.  Get the
mines.  Now don't destroy the stairwells above you just yet.  Stand just to
the left of the ditch so that only the gun itself is positioned on top of the
boundary between the ditch and the lighter colored ground.  Now head up until
an ishka appears.  You'll kill it and its shots will pass harmlessly past
your right side.  Now destroy the remaining stairwells and torches on the
screen.  The left torch contains grenades.

Then head up.  You'll find more stairwells.  Destroy the lower left one to
find a bonus score.  Destroy the rest of them.  You'll see that the top right
stairwell doesn't want to blow up for some reason.  That's because it is
actually a shop.  Walk on top of it to enter.

Shop 4
======
Item              Price
------------------------
Thunder Power     50
Armor Power       50
Arrow Power       70
Life Power        70

Buy the arrow or life power if you need them.  Otherwise leave the shop.
Head up.  You'll see torches.  Stand under the left torch.  Destroy it.  Then
head up until you see a raquell appear.  Let it run over to you and it will
walk straight into your line of fire.  Stay in the same spot and head up with
your guns blazing again.  You'll kill a galango and two mini-suzkas that
appear.  Now destroy the right torch.  Now keep your aim north.  Then destroy
the right stairwell to find armor power.  Sidestep to the left and destroy
the left stairwell.  Then stand in the center of the screen.  Head up and
toss a grenade.  Three suzkas appear.  The grenade should take care of the
first one.

Just stand and shoot/grenade the other two.  Then go and get the armor power.
Stand in the center again and head up.  A suzka appears in the center of the
screen.  Shoot it down.  Now mini-suzkas appear from both sides.  Shoot them
down.  It's easier if you step back and then sidestep left or right as they
approach.  Now destroy the stairwells and torches without scrolling the
screen up further.  You'll find a boomerang in the left stairwell.  Now stand
on the left edge of the screen.  Have your guns blazing and head on up.
You'll kill a galango that appears.  Then gun down the mini-suzka that also
appeared.  Then head up and you'll encounter a suzka and mini-suzka.  Gun
them down and then destroy the stairwells surrounding some bones.  Then pick
up the life power and head up to fight the boss.

Boss:  Brittero
This snakelike boss will be a familiar sight for those who chose to fight the
dark mirror in this stage.  It is still just as annoying to kill.  Its attack
is to move/slither around and fire shots from its head.  The head looks
different from the rest of its body so be able to distinguish it.  This is
one of those boss fights where I strongly recommend that you use the arrow
power to win.  It may be cheap but it's better than dying and losing
everything you've worked hard to get thus far.  For those of you who wish to
fight the old fashioned way, then simply keep the B button pressed to lock
your aim north.

Head up and get the key.  Then grenade the faces on the walls to find
openings.  Enter one of them to go to a tunnel.  The tunnel is usually full
of powerups although you can still get the galango tunnel if you are unlucky.
For the strategy on the tunnels, see near the end of stage 1's walkthrough.

Stage 5
=======
Items found:  2 machine gun, quake power, sword, thunder power, wing power

The final stage opens with the same two statues that you've seen for the past
three stages.  They will attack you with homing bombs from their swords.  The
left one will attack you when you start the level.  Quickly run east and then
south to the opening in the middle of the bottom of the screen in order to
avoid the homing bomb.  Hopefully you'll dodge it and the subsequent
explosion.  Stay at the bottom of the screen until the bombs stop.  Now
slowly move left, along the bottom of the screen until you are under the left
statue.  Throw grenades at it.  You will destroy the statue if you hit the
top part (i.e. near the head).  It will drop a machine gun.  Now walk along
the bottom of the screen to the right side.  The other statue will not attack
as long as you stay far enough away.  Stand under it.  Then throw grenades up
at it and you'll find another machine gun.  Don't get the machine guns yet.

Stand to the right of the left statue's fist.  Leave a small space between
the statue's first and your left hand for good measure.  Now head up and
shoot and toss grenades.  Two ishkas will appear.  Your grenade should kill
the left one.  Its shot will safely pass your left side.  Now the right ishka
will have fired a shot out.  Move up to avoid it.  Then the ishka quickly
fires another diagonal shot that should come at you at a smaller angle than
before.  Step backwards to avoid this shot.  Now stay just below the ishka
horizontally and move back as it approaches.  If you do it correctly, the
ishka will fire shots out to the west which miss you entirely.  Then the
ishka gets stuck in the right statue.  Step back enough until you are just
below its westward line of fire.  Then turn right and toss a grenade at it.
Don't get too close or the ishka will fire diagonally at you.  Now get the
machine guns if you haven't already done so.

Now stand next to the right statue's fist.  Head up and an ishka appears.
Its shots should miss you.  Step back and grenade it.  Now there are two
walls in front of you.  Both have sections that can be grenaded.  The right
wall contains thunder power and a sword.  Get them and a raquell will appear.
Kill it and then head on up between the two walls.  You'll find another wall
and another raquell.  Kill it off.  Then go around the right side of the
wall.  You'll run into two walls.  The one on the right has a section that
you can destroy on its right side.  Now go left and through the space between
both walls.  You'll see two more walls on both sides.  The one on the left
has a breakable section running down its middle as indicated by the lighter
colored rock in the middle of the wall.  Grenade it.  You'll find wing power
at the top.  Position yourself under the path through the wall that you just
uncovered.  Fire away as you head up.  Two galangos appear and you will kill
the left one.

Now get the wing power, turn right, and toss a grenade at the right galango.
It should die and you will safely dodge its shots.  Head up and fire and
grenade away to kill another galango that appears on the left side.  Now go
back and destroy the right wall for points if you want.  Now stand in the
center of the screen just slightly to the left (positioning your right hand
in the left wall's shadow is a good spot).  Head up and fire away.  You'll
take out a galango that appears.  Get the quake power to the right.  Then
stand on the far right edge of the screen.  Head up.  A galango appears on
the left side.  Stop after it appears.  Stand and fire away.  The galango
will move off the left side of the screen, reappear on the right side, and
die by your shots.

Now head up until you start to see red steps.  You're now in front of what I
call the "gauntlet."  I called it this because of the large amount of enemies
that you will face.  Now move to the center of the screen before heading up
again.  An ishka will appear behind you.  Quickly kill it before it hits you.
Now stay to the left of the red stairs.  Slowly move up.  A galango appears
to the left.  Aim south and lock your aim as you move up to the galango.  An
ishka appears from the south side.  Killing it is easy since you are already
facing it.  Now move up until you are in grenade range of the galango.  Then
kill it off.  Now lock your aim south.  Move to the center of the steps and
slowly move up.  An ishka appears from the south.  Kill it.  Now aim north.
Look at the top of the red steps.  You will see gray floor tiles.  Count the
tiles from the left.  Stand between the fourth and firth columns of tiles
from the left side.  Fire away and slowly move up until you see a galango
appear.  Stop moving and let it fly right into your shots.  Its shot will
pass just above you.

Now stand between the third and fourth tile columns from the left so that
your bullets are in the center of the fourth tile column from the left.  Head
up and you'll kill an ishka that appears while safely avoiding its shots.
Now stand on the right side of the steps.  Move up and a galango appears.
Stop moving and keep shooting.  It will fly right into your shots.  Now head
up and an ishka appears to your left.  Quickly move back and toss a grenade
to kill it.  Now stand in the middle of the second and third column of tiles
from the left.  Head up and an ishka appears.  It will walk straight into
your shots and miss you with its shots.  Stand between the fourth and fifth
columns of tiles from the left.  Move up and a galango appears to the left.
It will fire southward so ignore it and move up some more until a second
galango appears to the right.  Stop moving after the second galango appears
but keep firing.  It will fly right into your shots.  Now toss a grenade to
finish the galango to the left.  Now slowly move up again.  An ishka appears.
Move up until you kill it with your shots.  Now move to the right until you
are standing between the fourth and fifth columns of tiles from the right.

Head up and an ishka appears.  It will walk right into your shots while you
avoid its shots.  Now stand on the fifth tile columns from the right and head
up.  A galango appears to your right while an ishka appears to the left.
Quickly toss a grenade to kill the ishka before it gets too close.  Then move
up until your shots kill the galango.  Now stand in the center of the tiles
(fifth and sixth columns from the left).  Head up and an ishka appears to the
right and suffers the same fate as its buddies.  Now move to the fourth
column of tiles.  Head up and an ishka appears to the left.  Quickly toss a
grenade to kill it before it gets near you.  Remain on the fourth tile
column.  Then head up again.  Another ishka appears to your right.  It will
walk into your shots.  Now slowly move up again.  A galango appears.  Stop
moving when it does but keep firing.  It will fire a shot southeast at you
but the shot will pass safely above your head.  The galango, on the other
hand, will fly right into your shots.  Head up a little more until an ishka
appears.  Then toss a grenade at it to finish it off.  Now head up until you
fight the boss.

Boss:  Demon Dog
This crazy canine is just like Rinda and Bronz.  The only difference is its
appearance.  It has the same extendable claws that the others had.  It also
circles around in the same manner.  Defeating the dog will therefore be
accomplished using the same methods you used against Rinda and Bronz.  Look
at the corners at the bottom of the screen and you'll see big columns with
green lights in the center.  Look at the left one.  Now look for the single
tile that is closest to the left green column.  It is the one above the black
space to the right of the left column.  Stand on that tile.  This is the spot
where you'll launch your attacks from.  Simply stand on that spot and toss
grenades at the Demon Dog.  Ten grenades will finish off the dog.

Head up the steps to the right.  The stairs will eventually lead to a area
with green columns on both sides.  Slowly move when you see this area.  Now a
black pit runs down the middle of the screen between the red stairs.  You
should notice that the pit is exactly 3 gray floor tiles wide.  Stay above
the center of the pit.  This will put yourself in the best possible position
heading into the final battle.  Now head up to face the final boss.

Boss:  Zada
Yes, it's true.  Zada is Zang Zip's brother and the mastermind behind Alexia
Lomta's troubles.  He'll strip you of all your weapons and items.  He was
probably aware of your cheap tactic of using the arrow power to win.  He does
leave you with a level four sword (and grenades).  However, the sword will do
you little good in this battle.  Only grenades can hurt him.  THE SWORD
CANNOT HURT ZADA!  In fact, I believe it's main purpose is to cause Zada to
fire homing bombs at you instead of regular shots (all enemies fire homing
bombs instead of regular shots when you equip the sword).  There's nothing
you can do against this.  It's one of the cheap advantages that the computer
gets in order to stack the odds against you.  Also, you will only be allowed
to use the continue code a maximum of three times after you start the fight.

Anyway, you'll start the fight exactly in the same spot you were in right
before Zada started talking to you.  Having a good starting point will make
this fight easier.  The best spot is just right of the center of the screen.
Zada's attack is to fire two homing bombs at you.  The bombs will hurt you
for 2 damage each.  The bombs also explode after traveling a certain distance
(about 5 floor tiles).  However, the explosions will not hurt you.  ONLY THE
BOMBS THEMSELVES WILL HURT YOU!  This is important to know because you want
to stay as close to Zada as possible.  He'll fire them pretty quickly so you
need to keep moving up, down, left, and right to avoid them.

Zada will slowly walk towards you while firing.  You'll want to lock your aim
north and toss as many grenades at him as you can by holding both the A and B
buttons down.  Be able to toss a grenade and move left or right to dodge
Zada's shot.  You'll know that a grenade hit Zada because of two things:
Zada will flash red and there will be no grenade explosion.  The key here is
to stay somewhat in front of Zada so he only fires the homing bombs straight
down at you.  Don't stray too far to either side of Zada or he'll fire the
homing bombs diagonally at you.  If you die and use the continue code, just
pray that Zada is far away or he'll kill you as you reappear.  It's very
cheap and the only thing you can try to do is to wait a few seconds before
entering the code so Zada is a little farther away.  Unlike many other
enemies and bosses in the game, touching Zada will not hurt him.

*** (note this next strategy assumes you are standing in the center of the
screen closer to the right side.  Simply reverse the directions if you are
standing closer to the left side of the screen) ***

Zada starts the fight in the center of the screen.  Quickly take a step to
the right to avoid the first homing bomb.  Then start the grenade assault.
Zada is pretty fat so stay to his right side just enough to keep him firing
down at you but out of the homing bombs' way.  Now you will employ the same
strategy against Zada that you used against Brittero, that is the old hit and
run diagonally tactic.  Just keep tossing grenades and moving southeast at
the same rate as Zada's approach so that you keep him just within your
grenade range.  The reason for this is that Zada will fire the homing bombs
diagonally at you if you are too close to him vertically or too far away
horizontally.  Count the grenades that hit Zada.  The most you will get off
on Zada before you're backed into the southeast corner is 15 grenades.

Unfortunately, Zada will usually kill you if you stay to hit him more than 12
times.  So hit Zada with 10-12 grenades (I usually opt for 12).  You should
run to Zada's left side when he takes a pause between firing homing bomb
shots.  Run for it during his next pause after you've hit him 8-10 times.
Then hit him once or twice more from his left side before you retreat.  Then
quickly RUN to the left side as fast as you can.  Run all the way until you
reach the left green columns.  Zada's homing bombs should miss you depending
on how many times you hit him before you ran AND if you were running from his
left side or not.  Hitting him 10 times or less almost always guarantees you
can run away without injury whereas hitting him more than 10 times will lower
your chances or escaping without injury (unless you are standing to his left
side).

Then head up to the top of the screen.  Zada will try to fire more homing
bombs diagonally at you.  Don't let the explosions intimidate you and focus
on running up.  Turn around when you reach the top of the screen, lock your
aim south, and go back on the offensive.  Zada will probably be finished
moving south and start heading up towards you.  Get within grenade range and
start tossing grenades at Zada while keeping close enough to him so that he
fires the homing bombs straight up at you.  It may take you some adjustment
to get used to using the hit and diagonal run tactic since you are at the top
of the screen.  You should be able to finish Zada off in this round of
grenades.  However, if you feel that Zada is getting too close, then run.
Don't try to sneak another hit on Zada instead of running away because Zada
will almost always kill you if he gets close to you.  Just keep repeating the
hit and diagonal run tactic and Zada will die soon enough.  It will take 20
grenades to finish him off.  While it sounds impossible at first, it is very
possible to win without getting hit at all.  You'll find that Zada becomes
very easy to beat after you have mastered his pattern.

(2-player strategy)
Another easy way to win is to play a two player game and have both players
employ the same strategy as above.  He'll die before he can even corner you.

Congratulations (especially if you did not die once) on freeing Alexia Lomta
and get prepared for a less than spectacular ending.  My final score (never
died once) was 247,800 pts.

Secrets
=======
Continue Code
-------------
Press A, B, B, A after you die to continue.  This code will only work 3 times
after you start the final battle.

Infinite time loop
------------------
You can maximize your score or certain weapons and items by using time power.
Find a stage where you can buy or find time power.  Then use it.  You'll get
warped to a point before the time power.  All of the items will be available
for you to get again.  Battle back to the point where you bought/found the
time power and repeat the loop all over again.

Extra lives for final battle
----------------------------
Normally you can only continue three times after the final battle starts.
However if you are playing a single player game, you can exploit the second
player to your advantage.  Simply fight the battle normally.  After you have
used up your last continue, simply continue using the second controller.
You'll have access to player two's three continues.  This will effectively
double your chances against the final boss.  You will not be able to get any
more continues after these three so make them count.
