1) Welcome to the world of Ice Hockey!  You will take the nation of your
  choice onto the ice surface to do battle against another powerhouse in
  the world of hockey.  Be sharp on the face-offs, check hard, pass well,
  goaltending must be sharp, and speed towards the goal as you fire laser
  beam accurate shots to outscore and outwit your opposition!  So tie your
  skates up, straighten your hockey sweater, and hit the ice for some
  intense HOCKEY ACTION!

2) This section will outline the controls for Face-Offs, Offense, Defense,
  and Goaltending.

D-Pad   : By pressing UP or DOWN before the referee enters to drop the puck,
         your two players located at the top and the bottom of the diamond
         formation will switch their positions.  By pressing LEFT and RIGHT
         before the referee enters to drop the puck, your two players
         located on the sides of the diamond formation will switch their
         positions.  When the referee is about to drop the puck, holding the
         direction  you desire to send the puck will make it go that way,
         provided your team wins the face-off.

SELECT  : No apparent use.

START   : Pauses/unpauses the game.

B Button: Before the referee approaches, this will switch the position of
         the bottom player with the left side player in the diamond
         formation.  There is no use for the B Button on the puck drop by
         the referee.

A Button: Before the referee approaches, this will switch the position of
         the top player with the face-off player (the right side) of the
         diamond formation.  The A Button is the button needed to win
         face-offs when the referee drops the puck.

B Button: This is the button that is used to shoot the puck.  If you just

         retaining possession of the puck.

         retaining possession of the puck.

B Button: This is used to change the control of your current player to
         another player nearest to the puck.  If your current player is
         nearest to the puck, no change will occur.

A Button: This button is used to stick check an opponent with the puck.  If
         you are successful, a tussle will ensue where one player will come
         out of the tussle with the puck while the loser falls to the ice.

D-Pad   : By pressing a direction on your control pad, your goalie will move
         in the same direction, but only within the confines of his goalie
         crease.  When the goalie has the puck, this directs your pass
         direction when the goalie throws the pass out.  While the goalie
         has possession of the puck, this can be used to bring one player
         closer to the goalie to receive the pass.

SELECT  : No apparent use.

START   : Pauses/unpauses the game.

B Button: This is used to change the control of your current player to
         another player nearest to the puck, which the goalie controls.
         If your current player is nearest to the puck, no change will
         occur.

A Button: This is the button that is used to pass the puck.

3) This section will look at the options for a game, and how they will
  effect your gaming experience.

You can choose a level of speed for the motion of the game starting at 1
(the slowest speed) all the way to 5 (the highest speed).  The low speed is
a good idea for a beginner, but the increased speed adds some challenge for
the more experienced player.

You can choose the length of the periods starting with 7 minutes (shortest
length), 10 minutes (middle length), and 15 minutes (longest length).
Choose the one that will allow you the best length of game for your interest
and time availability.

4) This section will look at the skills of the various body types your
  players can have.

These guys have skinny bodies on them, and they have a spindly little nose
to match their bodies.  The Skinny Guys have a weak shot due to their poor
upper body conditioning, and their body checks rarely knock anyone over but
themselves.  Skinny Guys have tremendous speed due to their minimal body
weight they have to move, and since they are so fast and quick, they also
excel at winning face-offs.

These guys have a moderate body size, with some average features to their
face.  Since the Medium Guys are so average, so are all their skills in
skating speed, face-offs, checking, and shot speed.

These guys have enormous body size, and they have very large and blunt
features on their faces.  The Fat Guys have a slow skating speed due to their
massive girth, and their slowness due to their size makes them awful
face-off specialists.  Since they have so much size though, they are rarely
on the ice after a body check, and their incredible upper body strength
makes them crazily powerful shooters.

5) This section will look at some potential teams for use, and their ranking

This team is the dream team for you if you win face-offs all them time and

puck, concentrate on your goaltending rather than body checking as your
defensive focus.

This team has decent skills in all categories, but this can potentially be a
bad thing in certain situations.  Maybe you need to make a big body check to

maybe you need the puck off the face-off, but a Skinny Guy gets it instead.

This team is the best of the all the same type of player, with their great
hitting skills and shooting skills.  If you can use your size to knocks your
opponents over repeatedly, you will be able to keep your attack up on their
end of the rink.  However, if their speed starts to go past you, a lot of
goals will go in (unless you have excellent goalie control).  Still, a
strong team is the... well... strongest team in most cases.

The Fat Guy version of this team is much superior to the Medium guy as you
do not need the increased speed or face-offs of the Medium Guy over the Fat

Guy, you have your better option.  Either way, this team is not of any great
strength either way.

This team suffers from the same potential problems that plague the all
Medium Guys team, which is a lack of strength in specific areas.  Although
they gain a specialist in two of the four main areas, they will continue to
lack in the other two areas, so either specialist will work just as well as
the other for your team.

This is the set you want for the best results (with a tie to another group
listed directly below) for scoring, defense, speed, and face-offs.  You will
be a little slow in the speed department, but you will not care as you fill
the next with great proficiency.  Medium Guy detracts from the team though,
so stick with the Skinny Guy instead.

Skinny Guys already.

This team is one of the two ultimate combos, with a Medium Guy thrown in to
add some speed while not sacrificing too much in the way of shot power by
going to another Skinny Guy instead.  This is a fabulous choice for your
team.


  The rest of the combos I will leave to you, but these are the most
  popular as well as tried and true teams to hit the ice with.  Keep in
  mind that any team can work, it just all depends on the style of hockey
  you play.

6) This section will look at the computer controlled teams player set-up,
  and how this ranks against all other computer teams.

-A strength team that relies on bruising the opposition while blowing hard
shots by the goalie.  Their defensive skills are easy to exploit if you can
get buy their slow moving players as well as poor face-off skills.


  These are your enemies to play, so get to know how to exploit each team
  for your best chance against them.

----------------------------Offensive Strategies----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

7) This section will look at some offensive strategies that will help to
  fill the oppositions net with a high amount of pucks.


a) Winning the face-off is perhaps the most important thing to master.  This
  allows your team to have the puck at the beginning of the majority of the
  start of the plays, which means you get the first attempt to score on
  most plays.

b) Use your Skinny Guys or Medium Guys to carry the puck up the ice.  This
  will offer the most speed so you can move up quickly, and it allows the
  ability to dance around the slower defenders.

c) When you are planning to make a pass, make sure that your teammate is no
  farther away then the space between the blue line and center line.  This
  will allow for a good distance for your pass to travel without slowing
  down, and thus keeping the chance of a steal happening to a very low
  level.

d) Use your Medium Guys or Big Guys to run over smaller players on the
  opposing side when you have the puck so they lose a skater for a second,
  but you can then also advance towards their goal a little easier.

e) When you are attempting to score, being close to the net will help.  What
  makes this an even more so great way to score is to move so you are in
  between the lines sticking off the face-off circles, which is dead center
  in front of the net.  This will often allow your player to shoot it past
  the goalie, and this method will lead to a pile of goals!

---------------------------Defensive Strategies-----------------------------

8) This section will look at some defensive strategies that will help to
  keep your oppositions score to a minimum.


a) Winning face-offs in your own end will stop almost sure goals for the
  opposition.  If you lose face-offs in your own end, you offer a golden
  opportunity to score on your net, which opponents will often capitalize
  upon.

b) Use your body check attacks when the puck is in their end and the neutral
  zone.  Once the puck is carried into your zone, it is best to switch to
  just concentrating on controlling your goalie to stop any incoming shots.
  This allows for best defensive moves when you can be aggressive, and then
  play a very laid back defensive posture when the chance of a goal a can
  occur.

c) Use your goalie to send opposing players spilling onto the ice.  This
  will also make more passing room for the goalie to hit a player so they
  can head out on offense.

d) While the goalie has the puck, bring your controlled player towards the
  goalie to give him an easy pass out.  This will keep steals down, and
  should be used with c) when at all possible.

e) Also remember the classic move with the puck when you have a lead.  You
  can take the puck and skate around your ownnet for minutes at a time with
  one defender giving poor chase (he will catch you eventually however).

9) This section will look at how a fight begins, what to do during the
  scrum, and how a penalty is decided.

When you and a player from the opposing team are entangled in a tussle (both
using their sticks on one another) to gain possession of the puck (by
pressing the A Button), the two will sometimes pile into one spot with the
rest of the players dogpiling on to form a Scrum.

As the players enter, some will be thrown out.  To throw more players out of
the pile, press the A Button as fast and as repetitively as you can (the
truly skilled can clear the pile completely except for their team's fight
originator).  This will continue till the ref blows his whistle and moves
into the pile to remove who he feels deserves the two minute penalty for
their actions.

The referee will move into the pile, and grab the one who started the fight
for the team that pressed the A Button less than the other team.  Two minute
penalty is the reward for the victor as his team gets the man advantage to
try and score a powerplay goal.

10)This section will give you the special play mode codes for the game.

On the Title Screen, hold down the A Button and the B Button on Controller
One and Controller, followed by pressing START on Controller One to remove
the goalies from play.

On the team select screen, highlight the team you wish to control, hold down
the A Button and the B Button on Controller One and Controller, followed by
pressing START on Controller One to cause the puck to continue moving until
it is brought under control by a player or scores a goal.  If the puck
becomes airbourne, it will continue to fly around the rink until it touches
someone to bring it to ice level or enters the net for a goal.

11)This section will give a few ways to spice up your game play experience,
  and to enjoy an alternate style of gaming.


a) Try to enter the No Goalies Code when playing against a friend to have a
  super fun contest where the challenge lies in the defensive skills of your
  players and not your goalie abilities.

b) Try to enter the FRICTIONLESS PUCK CODE when playing to experience a wild
  game where the slightest misdirection of a puck can turn a harmless
  loose puck into a potential goal at all times.

c) Try combining the two codes into one for a real "Russian Roulette" feel
  to your game if your shot misses the oppositions net.  You may end up
  scoring on your own net more than you do on the opposing team's net.

d) For a challenge for only the most perseverant, enter the 15 minute
  periods and try to see how high you can run the score up.  There is
  something about playing the country you least like and pounding them into
  the ice with a 200+ goal victory!

e) Try to use a Fat Guy and three Skinny Guys when you play, except the Fat
  Guy can only take face-offs and the Skinny Guys are the only ones allowed
  to score.

f) Another challenging way to play is to totally ignore the fact that you
  control your goalie as you play defense only with your four skaters.

g) Try to play a game where your sole method of scoring is to pass the puck
  into the net.  If you wish to make it more difficult, make it so you can
  not pass the puck to your teammates on the opponent's side of the ice.

h) Taking the above challenge and switching it a bit, play a game here your
  players can not skate with the puck at all (or as little as possible due
  to the need to aim your passes).  This will make it far tougher to break
  the opposition's defensive net.
