1.INTRODUCTION

Well, what can I say?  If you’ve read my review of this game you may be
wondering why I’m writing an FAQ for it.  Because I’m bored, that’s why.  It
IS an interesting game though.  Just bear with me.

2. BACK STORY

Welcome to camp Crystal Lake!  Perhaps you think this will be a walk in the
park.  Perhaps you think that with a name like “Crystal Lake” nothing could
possibly go wrong.  Perhaps you are a moron.  In any case, something IS
wrong here at camp.  It seems that a man named Jason Voorhees is roaming the
whole place.  Basically, Jason runs around attempting to kill everyone in or
around camp Crystal Lake.  It seems that, as a child, Jason drowned in the
lake due to the neglect of two councilors who were busy exploring their
adolescent tendencies if you get my drift.  Anyway, he isn’t very happy
about it and now wants to rid the world of teenaged camp councilors.  If
only he could be rehabilitated into a better occupation.  For example,
perhaps we should send him after lawyers.  It also doesn’t help that his
mother was beheaded by one of those obnoxious pre-adults.  So you can’t
really blame him, but there you go.

So, anyways, you take on the role of the 6 councilors at the newly reopened
camp.  (You would think people would learn by now) Your job is to,
basically, stay alive.  Oh yeah, and you have to keep those bratty kids
alive too.  On top of THAT, you have to kill Jason.  You would think it
would be impossible to kill something that was already dead, but so it goes.

3. CHARACTERS

GEORGE:  Every group MUST have a slightly overweight comical looking member.
Well, this is the guy.  He is SLOW, VERY SLOW.  He also gives new meaning
the phrase “white men can’t jump”.  He is not without a use, however.  Keep
him around the lake, just in case the kids fall under attack.

MARK:  This is THE MAN.  You will learn to LOVE this guy.  He is the fastest
of all the councilors (Crissy comes close, but not quite).  He also rows the
boat the fastest.  He can jump, but not quite as well as Crissy (He’s 2nd
best at that, though).  You will be using this guy A LOT.  Use him to
collect weapons and to finish off Jason.

PAUL:  Not really fast, but a better jumper than George.  Paul is good for
protecting the kids; use him in conjunction with George.

LAURA:  She’s somewhat fast but she can’t jump.  She’s good at running
errands like finding medicine.

DEBBIE:  Don’t bother, really.  Worse than George.

CRISSY:  The female counter-part to Mark.  She’s quick, she jumps the
highest, and she can row.  Use her just like Mark.

STRENGTHS CHART:

               Speed           Jump            Rowing
George            5th             5th              4th
Mark              1st             2nd              1st
Paul              4th             3rd              5th
Laura             3rd             4th              6th
Debbie            6th             6th              2nd
Crissy            2nd             1st              3rd

4.ENEMIES

ZOMBIES:  REALLY annoying!!!  They spring up EVERYWHERE!!  Kinda like
insurance salesmen.  Just run from ‘em mostly, until you get at least a
knife anyway.

CROWS:  Dive at you from the sky, also very annoying but easy enough to
dodge.

BATS:  They’re in the cave, kinda dumb too.  All they do is fly at you;
they’ll even fly right past you.

WOLVES:  RUN AWAY!!! RUN AWAY!!! (Monty Python and the Search for the Holy
Grail)  These guys are REALLY bad news.  They show up in the woods and in
the cave.  They’re quick and mean and other nasty things.

JASON:  Big man on campus.  He’s big, and he packs quite a punch.  More on
this guy in the walkthrough.

MRS. VOORHEES:  Ugly sucker.  More on her in the walkthrough.

5. WEAPONS/ITEMS

ROCKS:  Each councilor starts the game with these stones.  Kinda sad, isn’t
it?  They tend to fly right over zombies heads unless you crouch down first.
 Upgrade as soon as possible.

KNIFE:  Standard blah weapon.  Everyone should get one though, it’s really
worlds better than rocks, and it won’t fly over zombie’s heads either.  Once
a councilor has this, they can pretty much fend for themselves.  You find it
on the trails by jumping around.

MACHETE:  A very good weapon.  It kills zombies in one hit so you can really
start to mow them down.  Try to get a lot of these.  If you can get every
councilor equipped with it, you should have zero problems.  You can find
this on the trails by jumping around and killing a lot of enemies.  Also, it
is in the cabins in the woods and in the cave.

AXE:  One of the power weapons, but slower than the machete.  You can get
this in the cabin in the woods or in the cave.  To get it in the cave
though, you MUST kill Jason’s mother on the first day with the Machete.  If
you do it with the knife, you only get a machete.  Once you have this, give
it to someone to keep it, so you don’t lose it by jumping and getting a
knife or something.

TORCH:  A really cool weapon.  It’s the 2nd most powerful in the game.  I
say this because, while it does the same amount of damage as the Pitchfork,
it doesn’t go as far.  In fact, its range is kind of bad.  Although when it
hits the ground it burns for a second or two, that’s kind of cool.  Get it
in one of the cabins by the lake.  Once you have it, DON’T LOSE IT.

PITCHFORK:  This is the big gun.  It’s every bit as powerful as the torch
and it goes 3x farther!  Full screen!  It also has the added treat that it
doesn’t stop when it hits an enemy, it just keeps right on plowing through
‘em.  So if you’ve got a lot of zombies chasing you, throw it.  They’ll all
die INSTANTLY.  Once you get this DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LOSE THIS
WEAPON!!!

FLASHLIGHT:  You get this after lighting all the fireplaces.  It lets you
see in the cave.  To be honest you don’t really need it since to find the
hidden door in the cave you just have to look for the odd shaped stone.
Lighting the fireplaces is still a good idea, however, since it gets you the
torch later.

LIGHTER:  Use it to light fire places, duh.  Find it by jumping around on
the trails, they show up EVERYWHERE.

KEY:  Find this by jumping too.  This will open any locked door in the game,
including the door to Jason’s Mother.

MEDICINE:  Use this to heal councilors.  Jump around to find it.  You’ll
have more luck in the woods, just don’t get lost.  It is used automatically
if the councilor you are controlling loses all their health.  If you want to
heal someone else, go into their cabin and use the appropriate command.

SWEATER:  This is a very good thing to have.  It cuts Jason’s damage by
quite a bit, plus he makes a concerted effort not to attack you on the trail
(he still will, though, if you cross paths).  You get it from Jason’s mother
on day 2.

6. GAME MAP

I was going to draw out a game map until I realized that you could access
the map at any time by pressing the start button.  So forget it.  Maybe if
you bug me about it, I’ll do it.

7.  GAMEPLAY

Ok, here’s where we get down to business.  Basically, the game is in three
“days” or “phases”.  To proceed to the next day, you must kill Jason in the
current day, get it?  Then he gets stronger and stuff.  Each “day” is
divided also into 3 sections, daytime, dusk, and night.  During the daytime
things are easier.  Not as many monsters and Jason moves around the map
slower (he still attacks the same speed, though) giving you more time to
think.  At dusk the monsters increase slightly and Jason starts to move a
little faster.  At night there are a ton of monsters and Jason can outrun
everyone but Mark on the map.  At first, Jason will only attack you with his
bare hands.  From there he may get a machete or an axe, it just depends.
There is a connection between the weapons you find in the cabin in the woods
and the weapon currently wielded by Jason.  For example if he is using an
axe, then a machete will be in the cabin and vise versa.  The cabin in the
woods (hereafter known as the woods-cabin) is his weapon stash area.  Be
careful around here, you are much more likely to run into Jason in the woods
than on the trails outside it.  If you last saw Jason with the machete and
you go to the cabin and FIND a machete, get the heck out quick cause it
means he was recently there.  (Oh, and even though you might take a weapon,
he finds another so don’t think you can deprive him of sharp objects).  A
very good rule of thumb is “Stay the Hell Out of the Woods Unless You Need
Medicine” (SHOWUYNM).  You really don’t need to bother with the woods-cabin
anyway; it’s not necessary to win, so I would stay away.

Jason uses a pattern when he attacks in the cabins, once you get it down
these encounters should be simple.  Outside, however, he is a bit tougher.
You’re going to have to use some fancy jumping to beat him.  After you hit
him a few times he runs off, now follow me closely here, DO NOT FOLLOW HIM!
You can usually tell where he is going by the direction he leaves the screen
from.  However, there is a small chance that the way he runs is not the way
he actually went.  Go the opposite direction anyway though.  If you beat him
inside a small cabin don’t go back outside, either, duh.  Instead, switch to
someone else.  If you beat him in a large cabin, you’re out of luck since
you can’t switch inside large cabins.  Just go outside and hope he didn’t
stick around.

You can tell when Jason is attacking either the kids or a councilor by an
alarm that sounds.  Also a flashing red dot will appear next to either the
icons of the councilors in the upper part of the playing field or the word
“children”.  Either way a timer begins counting down from 60.  That’s right,
you have one minute to get your butt over to where Jason is.  You can tell
where he is by bringing up the map screen.  The cabin he is in will flash
yellowish green.  If you’re nearby, go ahead and head for it, if not duck
into a small cabin a switch to someone who is (if he is attacking a
councilor, you can switch to that councilor as well).  Either way, make sure
you fight him inside the cabin; it’s much harder outside as I’ve said.

That 60-second timer is very significant in more ways than one.  If you let
it hit zero you lose either the councilor or the kids (depending upon what
Jason was attacking).  However, even if you manage to save them, depending
on how long it took, the councilor might have lost some health or you may
have lost a kid or two.  Here’s how it works:  If Jason is attacking a
councilor you have 35 seconds to get there before any damage occurs.  After
that the health starts to slowly tick away.  If Jason is after the kids, you
also have 35 seconds.  After that he kills one every 5 or so seconds (I’m
not sure of the EXACT count).

Let’s talk about councilors for a minute.  Apparently, none of them ever
heard of the buddy system so they all start in different places.  Plus, you
can’t have two in one cabin at the same time.  Let’s say Mark goes into
Debbie’s cabin (for WHAT I have no idea, I’ll let you make that part up),
now let’s say at that point you switch to Laura.  Now you take Laura to
Debbie’s cabin (maybe because Mark is Laura’s boyfriend and she’s really mad
about him going into Debbie’s cabin alone).  Well, Mark won’t be there when
Laura gets there (although this would give Laura a chance to duke it out
with Debbie) because of the cabin rule.  Mark will have found another
unoccupied cabin.  At this point though you may have to SAVE Mark cause he
may have gone into a cabin right near Jason (their brave, these councilors,
but stupid).  Although you may not WANT to save him, after the way he
treated Laura.  Something else too.  If you save a councilor from Jason, you
may have to heal them with medicine.  See, when you’re not controlling them,
the councilors sit around like helpless dogs on crack and just LET Jason
beat the heck out of them without lifting a finger.  Actually, maybe you
shouldn’t give them medicine, especially if they really HAVE been smoking
crack (the mixed drugs could kill them!).

Now let’s talk about the kids.  You start with 15 and you have to keep at
least one of them alive or you lose.  Jason tends to concentrate more on the
councilors than the kids anyway (especially by day 3) so you only need one
or two councilors around the lake to protect them.  (You’d think one of them
would stay IN the cabin the kids are in to protect them, but that would be
common sense, so of course, they don’t).  If you’re too busy to deal with
the kids when Jason attacks them, just don’t worry about it.  Keep in mind,
though, that you can only do this twice.  Jason attacks the kids in groups
of 5.

Jason’s Mother follows a pattern just like Jason does.  She moves and swoops
at you.  You can beat her with any weapon but rocks tend to miss a lot.
Beat her on day one for the Axe (or machete, depending on what you killed
her with, use the machete to kill her to get the Axe).  On day 2 she gives
you a sweater (see the weapons/items section).  And on day 3 she gives up
the pitchfork (YEAH!!!).

Just a quick word of advice before we begin the walkthrough.  Once you get
the Axe, give it to Laura.  Give the torch to Crissy and the Pitchfork to
Mark.  You’ll have quite an elite fighting force this way.  Now, on to the
walkthrough!

8.WALKHROUGH

DAY ONE:
Since the councilors start in random places there’s no telling what you’re
going to get.  For starters move George and Paul to cabins by the lake (you
should be able to get a knife in the process for both of them).  Jason
always starts at the cave so you should be OK during this (but don’t take
your sweet time about it, he moves quickly).  If George or Paul start in a
cabin by the cave, just wait to move them. You’ll get the chance, don’t
worry.  Next, switch to Mark and go out and jump and fight until you get a
knife.  Now take Mark to another councilor and pass the knife off.  Do this
until every councilor has one, fending off the occasional attack by Jason.
By this point, you probably have killed enough stuff to find a key and a
lighter.  You will need the key in a little while, but for now let’s talk
about the lighter.  With the lighter, you can light all the fireplaces in
the big cabins.  Take Mark around the camp lighting fireplaces (remember,
though, that if Jason attacks someone you have to be in a small cabin to
switch councilors).  After you light them all, the flashlight appears.
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, “All I got for all that trouble was a
lousy flashlight?”  Well, chill out.  Yes the flashlight is pretty useless,
but you have to light all these things to get the torch later.  (By the way,
while you’re lighting all these fires, you may run across a few notes that
say things like “Go into one of the cabins by the lake” or “Go in to the
cabin near the cave”.  Don’t even bother; it’s a wild goose chase.  Plus, I
wouldn’t trust a note left “lying around” while there was an ingenious
psycho killer on the loose.  Let’s face it, he’s smarter than the
councilors).  Once you get the flashlight you need to go find a machete if
you haven’t got one already from jumping around (do you get the idea that
you pretty much need to jump around EVERYWHERE?).  Once you do (it takes a
little time, you’ve got to kill a lot of stuff) go to the cave.  Now from
the entrance inside go left.  Jump to the first ledge and then to the second
(DON’T fall.  You’ll die and losing Mark is a very bad thing).  Now, see the
opening in the wall?  (If you didn’t get the flashlight you should see 2
oddly shaped stones on the ground)  Go to it and press up.  Now you’re
inside a cabin-like room.
Walk through the door (you must have a key) and you’ll find Jason’s mother.
She swoops around the room, just keep pelting and dodging, she’ll give up
quickly.  If you killed her with the machete you’ll get the very cool axe.
If not, you get a machete.  Hopefully, you got the axe if you followed my
instruction about getting the machete first.  Now, exit the cave the way you
came in.  Have Mark go and find Laura and give the Axe to her.  Now switch
to Laura and go into the woods to look for medicine.  Try not to get into
any fights with wolves.  If one comes at you, run the other way and down a
path.  Don’t get lost!  To find medicine, jump around while you kill stuff.
There’s a lot of it around.  When you have 6 or 7 (even more if you’re
really cautious) leave the woods and switch back to Mark (or Crissy, if
you’re a feminist, it doesn’t matter which) but DON’T give them the axe, let
Laura keep it.  Take him (or her) around until you find another machete.  It
should be dark by this time.  Basically walk around and hunt down Jason (you
may want to stop by the woods to get some medicine for Mark).  He’s not hard
right now so finish him up quickly.

DAY 2:
Ok, today Jason is a little quicker and a little stronger.  Mark and Crissy
(and Laura, to some degree) can still out run him, though, so don’t worry.
First things first take Crissy around to light all the fireplaces (you’ll
have to get her a lighter first).  Once you do that a torch will appear in
one of the cabins by the lake.  Go find it.  Now she has a decent weapon,
don’t lose it by jumping into a knife or something.  Switch back to Mark and
head to the cave again to fight Jason’s mother.  She’s a little faster but
still not too tough.  You’ll win the sweater for your trouble.  Now Jason
won’t do as much damage to Mark and will avoid him on the trails to some
degree.  Gather some more medicine in the woods.  In fact, it’s probably a
good idea for Crissy and Laura to do this to, as long as Laura still has the
axe anyway.  Remember to keep Paul and George near the lake.  You may even
want to get them machetes at this point.  Keep a close eye on them too,
sometimes councilors will move around to different cabins.  Be sure those
two stay put.  It should be night by this point (or at least dusk).  Take
Crissy around to fight Jason since she has the torch (you may be tempted to
use Mark since he’s got the sweater, don’t, you’ll need him tomorrow).
Armed with fire, he should be a pushover.  Just watch out for his
double-hit.  He moves at varying speeds.

DAY 3:
This is the most straightforward of all 3 days.  Immediately take Mark to
fight Jason’s mother again.  You’ll get the pitchfork, the best weapon
available.  Mark has suddenly become a one man fightin’ machine.  Now you
have Mark with a pitchfork AND the sweater, plus Crissy with the torch,
Laura with the Axe, and one or two others with machetes.  Jason is YOURS
baby.  Take Mark around camp on a manhunt.  Plow the fields man, plow the
fields.

9. TIPS

·      ALWAYS duck into a cabin if you can when Jason is coming.  He is much
easier to fight in there.  You can tell because the screen stops scrolling.
·      Yes, Jason will attack you in the water, nothing you can do  about it
though.
·      Keep Mark and Crissy above 75% health when at all possible, and try to
keep Laura above 50%.  You can’t afford untimely deaths.
·      Medicine is your friend; pick it up whenever you can.
·      Don’t bother with the cabin in the woods, really.
