I. Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fire Emblem Gaiden is an oddball amongst the series, and one big reason why is
the equipment and magic system.  It works more like a traditional RPG than the
usual FE system, but has some quirks of its own.  Every character has one
equipment slot that can be used on a weapon (of a usable type), shield, or
ring.  If no weapon is equipped, then a default weapon with 0 Mt will be used
for attacking.

With magic, there are no tomes or staves involved in FE2.  Instead, your mages
will learn spells as they level-up.  In addition, spells will cost MP when
cast.  As nothing is equipped, a mage will default to a particular spell for
counters- Sisters will use Drain, for instance, and Mages will have Fire.  The
only exception is if the spellcaster does not have enough HP to cast a spell,
in which case nothing is done.  Be warned that the default spell is considered
to be equipped, even if the caster is not in range to counter.  If your 10
speed mage is attacked by an 8 speed archer from range 3, he will be double-
turned!

For a list of what spells are learned at what level, consult The Lost Gamer's
FAQ/Walkthrough.  A few enemy-only spells have been omitted, mainly ones that
do not show up on a character's spell list in the status screen.

This entire document was based on Pegasus Knight's excellent website; any
credit for the work goes to them.  This is merely a translation for people who
can not read Japanese and are unwilling to putz around with Babelfish.

II. Description Of Weapon Stats
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mt- Weapon Might.  Add this to the user's strength or magic power to determine
Attack Power.

Hit- For weapons, Base Hit=Weapon Hit+Skill.  For spells, Base Hit=Spell Hit.

Crit- Critical rate.  This is added to the user's [(Skill+Luck)/2].

Range- Range from which the attack may be performed.

Wt- Weight, this is the amount subtracted from the user's speed to determine
Attack Speed.  Note that there is no constitution or build stat in this game,
so AS loss is unavoidable with weapons that have weight.

Effects- Any additional effects the weapon may have.  Weapons that are
effective against a particular type of enemy have tripled might.

HP Cost- Amount of HP consumed to cast a spell.  Spells can not be cast if
the character does not have enough HP left.
