Fantasy Zone is a shoot-'em-up on an acid trip.

If you think you have played bizarre games before, you can add Fantasy Zone
to your list. Fantasy Zone features incredibly weird environments, enemies,
and bosses that make anyone wonder if the developers were sane when they were
putting this game down on the drawing board. That being said, have fun playing
as the space ship Opa Opa as you blast mushrooms and magic fun boxes! Hooray!

On an interesting sidenote, Opa Opa has made a more recent appearance as a
MAG in Sega's Phantasy Star Online!

Fantasy Zone's storyline, from the instruction manual...

Fantasy Zone is a solar system of eight wonderful planets--each more fan-
tastic than the next! There's bad news though; Evil Menons have overrun
Fantasy Zone, using stolen money to build their forces. As Opa Opa, a living
spaceship, you've got to recover the money and destroy the nasty Menons on
each planet. Collect enough coins along the way and you can buy meaner
weapons and awesome engines. Watch out though, the enemy boss lurking between
planets wants to put an end to your planetary quest!

<<<   [5.2]   WEAPONS                                                      >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
---------
Twin Shot
---------
Cost: N/A
Description: Opa Opa's default weapon. It fires two small laser beams. Its
damage is the lowest of all weapons available.

---------
Wide Beam
---------
Cost: $500 (+$400 after every purchase)
Description: The Wide Beam is about three times larger than the other guns. It
doesn't seem to do much more damage than the Twin Shot,
            unfortunately.

----------
Laser Beam
----------
Cost: $1,000 (+$800 after every purchase)
Description: Buy this weapon as often as you can! Its radius is as big as the
Twin Shot but dishes out a lot more harm.

----------
5 Way Shot
----------
Cost: $5,000 (+$4,000 after every purchase)
Description: As the name suggests, Opa Opa can fire in five directions. It
works great for taking out several enemies at once but not
            against a single foe.

-----------
Single Bomb
-----------
Cost: N/A
Description: This allows Opa Opa to drop a bomb on an enemy below. Although
quite powerful, aiming is a bit difficult.

---------
Twin Bomb
---------
Cost: $100 (+$100 after every purchase)
Description: Instead of dropping one bomb at a time, Opa Opa can now deploy
            up to two.

---------
Fire Bomb
---------
Cost: $2,000 (+$500 after every purchase)
Description: It appears to be a normal bomb at first. As it falls, press A
again to split it into two fireballs that damage enemies.

----------
Smart Bomb
----------
Cost: $2,000 (+$1,000 after every purchase)
Description: Unleashes a flash that instantly destroys all weak ships on
            screen.

----------
Heavy Bomb
----------
Cost: $2,000 (+$1,000 after every purchase)
Description: An extremely cheap weapon. It drops a 16 ton weight from the top
of the screen. Anything that is hit by it is instantly killed,
            even bosses!

This section contains tips and strategies for the stages and bosses.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 1                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You will soon realize that these stages can be beaten quite easily in a
short length of time. To reach the boss, you must defeat the six major enemies
in each stage. A small display on the bottom of the screen indicates how many
are left and where they're at.

The key foes to defeat are the large red things with the tiny wings. Drop
bombs from above or shoot them from the sides. Avoid traveling beneath them,
as they deploy bubbles that can hit you.

Shoot up all of the other weak enemies to earn money for buying parts at the
shops. The payload isn't quite as big as you'd get from bosses, but every
little bit helps.

After you destroy all of the six enemies, it's boss time!

----------
Wood Block
----------
Yes, the bosses in Fantasy Zone are truly..uh, "unique."

To defeat the thing, shoot at the opening where the salvos of bullets come
out of. You should be able to dodge the shots without too much trouble, but
buying a set of Big Wings will help. As it takes damage, it changes color.
Once it reaches red, it's just about dead.

When the boss dies, collect as many of the money bags as possible!

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 2                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Touch the SHOP bubble at the top of screen when the stage begins. Purchase
the Laser Beam and a better engine if possible. Use the laser to gun down the
six blobs. If you move quickly enough, you can probably take 'em all out
before the weapon time limit expires.

-------
The Sun
-------
I'm guessing it's supposed to look like the sun, but I don't know... ;)

The way to win is shoot and eliminate all of the inner circles. Obviously,
the outer ring tries to block your attacks, so you have to time yourself
correctly when firing. If you still have the Laser Beam, it pierces right
through that, which makes this boss even easier. If that's not the case,
just use your Twin Shot. Get up close and personal and drop bombs through
the ring, if you're feeling daring.

When the shots rain down from above, they move pretty fast. A slow engine
can spell doom here. This boss may also make you realize that Fantasy Zone
has poor collision detection. :P

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 3                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Again, enter the shop at the start. This time, buy a Turbo Engine, or at
least a Jet Engine if you're a cheapskate. Get another Laser Beam while you're
here, too.

One helpful tip is to watch the spinning ships in the corners of the screen.
Unless you blow them up, they'll fire extremely tiny shots at you. Chances are
you'll be destroyed before you can even see them coming.

Take out the mushroom-like ships using your laser to reach the boss....

-----------
Winged Face
-----------
Another easy force to take down. Stay at the very top of the screen to evade
the laser rounds. As the ship moves up and down, the cannons fire from one end
to the other and back again. Drop bombs at the cannons' tips to easily destroy
them. Once they're all gone, it's over!

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 4                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Same routine. Buy the Laser Beam. Get a Rocket Engine if you don't mind
burning a lot of your cash supply. All of the major enemies you have to defeat
are on the ground this time. So, stay way low and fire away!

----------
Snake Arms
----------
This boss isn't too bad, especially if you have a fast engine. You must
shoot both arms until all of their segments are green. All the while, you have
to dodge their shots. The laser is really handy here, if you have any left
over.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 5                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You should know the drill by now... Get the laser and gun down them acorns!

Similarily to Stage 3, watch out for any spinning ships. Destroy them as
soon as possible to prevent any chance of death.

-------
Snowmen
-------
The snowmen are attacking the poor Opa Opa! How will we ever survive!?

Until you eliminate the first line of snowmen, this fight is a pain. The
little ones fire tiny rounds and fast! And since there's so many of them, you
have several things to dodge at once. As you take them the snowmen down, their
shots become larger and there's less to put up with. Slay the largest of them
all to win.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 6                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Nothing really new here... More enemies fire at you now, so keep an eye out
for bullets!

-------
The Eye
-------
As the Eye floats into its center position, move Opa Opa to the center of
the ground. Do that, and you won't have to scream as you watch your ship be
destroyed by the Eye's rotating barriers. :P

Fly Opa Opa clockwise as the barriers do. While you're doing that, drop
bombs on the Eyes when it's possiblt to do so. AND WORK QUICKLY! The more time
you waste, the faster the barriers will move. Needless to say, you'll have a
problem with that...

An easy way to win is to buy a Heavy Bomb before the fight. When the Eye
appears, drop the weight on it, and it's dead in one hit!

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 7                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
 Buy laser.. Blah blah blah...

---------
Magic Box
---------
If you don't have a fast engine, you're screwed here! Woohoo!

The magical box monster separates and tries to assemble itself on top of Opa
Opa, thus destroying it. Drive around, drop bombs on it, and then laugh at the
box. Laugh with me, Jocko! Laugh with me! Mwahahaha!

Like with the previous boss, one Heavy Bomb makes the fight quick and easy.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<   ROUND 8                                                              >>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
When you defeat the previous round's boss, you are taken to the shop screen
for one last time. Acquire at least a Turbo Engine, Laser Beam, and at least
3-4 Heavy Bombs, too.

And as if this awesome game couldn't get any better, you have to fight ALL
seven bosses again in a row! Have fun...

After they're all dead AGAIN, you must fight...

-------------
Giant Opa Opa
-------------
Unfortunately, this is your last demented boss to fight... *sniff*

The enemy Opa Opa shifts to the right side of the screen deploys a weird
crab thing to dives around the screen. As it moves, it leaves behind a solid
barrier. Shoot the crab and destroy it. And, yet another one appears! The more
you destroy, the faster they go. If you're encountering problems, drop a Heavy
Bomb on the crab.

               Congratulations! You've beaten Fantasy Zone!
...but is that a good thing?
