One of Nintendo's United States launch titles, this was a simple racing game in
the same vein as its predecessor, Pole Position (on the Atari, an excellent
classic racing game). This game can be frustrating, but is also highly
rewarding to complete.
With no plot to speak of, this is pure racing fun. It rules, nothing like 2
buttoned fun. You could almost play it with one hand. Nintendo had it planned
out from the very beginning!
Controls
Press start to begin the game, and, of course, pause and unpause.
At the title screen, pick you skill level (1, 2 or 3) by pressing select.
Standard NES stuff, I think.
This game features responsive D-PAD control.
Up and Down will gear shift between your two (wow) gears aptly titled HI and
LOW.
Left steers you car LEFT and right steers your car (again: wow) RIGHT.
Pressing the A button activates your Formula 1 car's whiz-bang hi-tech
accelleration device.
B button acts as a brake.
Pressing A and B at the same time will send your car into a sort of cruise
control on the LOW gearing. What this does is maintain the fairly unremarkable
speed of 176km/h. This is a Terriffic Tactic (tm) to use when cornerring,
however, do not use it for too long as on the higher levels you will struggle
to finish the lap!
Track By Track Guide (and some pretty ugly ASCII 'art' - OK, so I
was never the ASCII artist when I was part of an infamous badarse warez crew. I
was the lowly cracker. Beware anyway. Your eyes may bleed.)
SKILL LEVEL 1: Complete 2 laps of each circuit within the given time to
continue.
