Version 1.0 (01/29/06) Guide Completed

Version 1.5 (02/03/06) Added table of contents. Changed a lot of the text
to make it easier to understand and use. Finally, I
changed the format of the guide a little bit.

Version 1.51 (02/04/06) In the last version, I accidently made a slight
mistake (I hit enter twice, and made the offset for
experience go lower than what I wanted). This

Hi, my name is Dan (XX_Mad_Mage_XX). This is my first guide that I have
ever written so I hope you find a use for it. If you would like, please leave
some feedback by emailing me. This guide as you should now know, is for save
state hacking in Dragon Warrior. Hopefully you enjoy my guide. Before you
begin reading I should tell you this guide assumes you know how to save state
hack.

Before We Begin [Sec3.0]

Before we begin, I am assuming you have knowledge of save state hacking.
If you do not then I apologize, but I will not explain how to in this guide.
There are other guides on the internet that explain how to (Google should help
you learn how). There are several things you will need to use this guide.
First you will need FCEU Ultra emulator. This can be found at:
http://emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/fceultra.html. This guide was written
using this emulator, and I doubt this guide will help you if you are not using
it; however, if you are using a different emulator, and this guide still
proves useful please email me telling me the name of the emulator you used.
Next thing that you will need is the ROM of Dragon Warrior. This shouldn't be
to hard to find. I prefer http://www.coolrom.com/ to find my ROMs, but as long
as you get the ROM it doesn't matter. Next you will need a hex editor. I used
and suggest you use Hex Workshop which can be found at: http://www.bpsoft.com/

How To Use This Guide [Sec4.0]
==============================================================================
This guide will list the offsets of the specific thing(s) that you wish to
change. If you are using Hex Workshop like I told you to, then you can use
this guide very easily. Just follow these steps:
1. Open up Hex Workshop
2. Load your save state
3. Right click somewhere and click on go to
4. Then go to offset
5. Make sure the bubble under hex is filled in, and type in the offset of the
thing that wish to change (I.E. You want to change your gold. You would
type 110 in)
6. It will take you to the specific place in the file where the thing that you
wish to change is located. Then type in the new hex code that will change
your item/equipment/gold/etc. (I.E. If you wanted 99 of something you enter
in 63) *Hex Workshop also comes with a converter. Just go to tools then
base converter.*
7. Finally save what you just edited under the same file name as you loaded it
(thus overwriting the old one). Then go back to your emulator, and load
your file, and the the changes will have occurred.

Iventory 115-118

***Items work differently because the offsets 115-118 function as your
inventory. This means that all the different types of items you have besides
Herbs and Magic Keys are found between these offsets. So between those offsets
there is room for 8 digits. Each digit represents one particular item***

0= No item
1= Torch
2= Fairy Water
3= Wings
4= Dragon's Scale
5= Fairy Flute
6= Fighter's Ring
7= Erdrick's Token
8= Gwaelin's Love
9= Cursed Belt
A= Silver Harp
B= Death Necklace
C= Stone of Sunlight
D= Staff of Rain
E= Rainbow Drop
F= Shows amount of herbs. However, you can not use them.

Equipment [Sec5.3] 112

**This is sort of similar to items. You can enter any byte (2 digits) to
determine which equipment combination you have. They start at 00 and end at
FF, allowing for 256 different combinations** (Look below, and you should
understand)
