Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku - Soreyuke Daiundoukai
Famicom/PC Engine FAQ by Johnny Undaunted ([email protected])
Version 1.0

Disclaimer: This FAQ is for the Japanese Famicom and PC-Engine version (and to
a lesser extent; the Game Boy version) of Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku.
Kunio-kun, Downtown Nekketsu and all related characters are copyrighted by
Technos Japan Corp. This document should not be reproduced withouth the
permission of it's author. Keep in mind that this is my second FAQ (the first
was for another Kunio-kun game called Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun for Super
Famicom), so it's far from perfect.

Damn it, why are people requesting FAQs for stupid DBZ games for Famicom and
but no Kunio games?

01.UPDATES
=========================================
1.0: This whole FAQ is new.

=========================================
02. INTRODUCTION
=========================================

Q. What is Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku?
A. Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai was the fifth Kunio-kun
game for the Famicom. It was a sports game in which the boys from the original
Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (Japanese version of River City Ransom) competes
in a Athletic Meet sponsored by pretty rich boy Mamoru Toudou from the Reihou
Gakuen (who became school president when his friend, Yamada, was banished from
Reihou in Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari). Koushinkyoku literally means Marching
Band, while Soreyuke Daiundoukai means Great  Athletic Meet. There are fourth
different events: Cross-Country, Obstacle Course, Ball Breaker and a Fighting
Tournament.

Q. What is the difference between the Famicom and PC Engine version?
A. Not much. Other than Red-Book audio and enhanced graphics, the PC Engine
version has extra backgrounds during the Cross-Country event and Obstacle
Courses, as well as two new battlefields at the end Fighting Tournament. There
are also new intermission scenes featuring the teams' cheerleaders and
pre-event previews. The PC Engine version has voiceovers done by Ryou Horikawa
and other famous voice actors in Japan.

Q. What's the difference between the FC/PCE versions and the Game Boy version?
A. The Game Boy version was called Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Dokodemo
Daiundoukai (Dokodemo means portable) and while that version has the same basic
gameplay as the FC version, the events were completety different. the Obstacle
Course was redesigned and the Ball Break game was replaced by a Bread-Eating
contest (in which your characters beats each other up for a piece of bread) and
a Hot Potato-style mini-game. Future versions of this FAQ may cover the Game
Boy version, but for now, it's just the Famicom and PC Engine versions.

Q: How do I win this game?
A: If you're playing a 1-player version of the game, you're goal is to compete
in all four events in a certain order and with a certain amount of rounds in
each event. You are given points  for everything you do right and you lose
points for everything you do wrong. By the end of each round, you win a certain
amount of points depending on your position (1st-place, 2nd place, eliminated,
ect.). If another team has more points than you at the end of each event, it's
game over. This doesn't apply to a multi-player game. In each round, you are
given the choice of one of six characters, each having a limited set of HP and
a special ability or two.

Q: How many teams are there in the game?
A: There four teams in the game; Nekketsu Koukou (Hot-Blood High-School),
Hanazono Koukou (Flower Garden High School), Reihou Gakuen (Cold Mountain
Campus) and Kakukou Rengou (Inter-School Union).

05. TEAMS & ATHLETES
==========================================
There are four teams in the game. Each of them has their captain, second

Technos bothered to give an ending to is Nekketsu. In this list, each athlete's
status will be given by alphabetic ratings, usually from A to D, but sometimes
E or F. Some categories like Weapon Throw Recovery Attack Rate and Recovery
Rate will have ratings like S (special) or X (none), while other categories
like HP and Punching Power are given in numbers. Here's an explanation of the
status.

Total HP: The highest number of HP an athlete can have.
Speed: How fast an athlete can run. The lowest rating is D.
Jump: How high can an athlete can jump. The lowest rating is D
Punch: How much damage an athlete's fists do.

Weapon: How much damage an athlete do with a weapon.

The ones with high ratings are less likely to be dizzied.
Weapon Throw (Recovery Attack Rate): How good an athlete is in dizzying or
pushing the opponent with a weapon throw.
Endurance: How long can an athlete's HP last.
Denfesive Power (Passive): How good an athlete blocks an attack.

Whoever sold me the PC Engine version, I should always be grateful towards you,
if I remembered your name.

If you have any questions, e-mail them at [email protected]. I may and may
not update this FAQ in the future, since I'll be working on a new one for
another Kunio-kun game.
