===============================================================================

Welcome to 'Dough Boy' for the NES, a game released by Kemco in 1985.

Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy!

02.)                    OVERVIEW & CONTROLS                          G0200
===============================================================================

Basics:
```````
The aim of the game is to rescue a POW from the camp. As you start you need to
collect many items such as TNT, mines and fuses to make it across several maps
and finally rescuing the POW. On the way there are obstacles and guards trying
to prevent you from doing so.
You start the game with five lives, called "Left" in the menu. You receive more
by completing maps and scoring points. There are a few ways to die in the game.
Most common is to be shot, fall into water, blow up by a mine or TNT and even
driven over by a tank.
As you start a map, the game shows you the overall look. Then you begin at the
left side. Whenever you die, you will have to restart from here but the rest of
the map will keep the way you left it.
Controls:
`````````

Kind of hard to control this game, I'm warning you now - this is not very user
friendly and can be extremely frustrating.

Cycle through the inventory with the A button. It isn't always working well.
You may need to hold down the button for a second or so. If you only quickly
tap the A button with a direction key you will shot your gun that way.

Use the B button to place ladders, as well as picking them up again.

Hold A and walk away to place down TNT and its fuse. The more you walk away
the longer the wire will burn. As soon as you let go it will be ignited so make
sure you are far enough away.

To place a mine, simply press A once.

When equipping the wire clipper, press against the fence and slowly press the
B button a few times until the guy gets working.

By pressing SELECT you can see your inventory, such TNT, Fuses, Ladders, Mines
and Clippers. You may also choose to quit the game from this screen, so do not
select 'abort' by mistake, 'next' actually returns you to the game.

Press START to see your statistics such as which level you are in, your score
and how many lives are left.

Game A, Game B and 2-Player:
````````````````````````````
Game A is desribed in the walkthrough. When you play Game B, the computer will
fire missiles at you for an added challenge. You will have to avoid these
attacks for the entire game. They are aimed at you directly so you have to be
quick, too. In 2-Player Mode the second player uses the the D-Pad to aim the
missile. This can help to defeat enemies but one must be careful not to harm
Player 1.
Score:
``````
The game has many ways to reward you with points, mostly shooting enemies,
destorying objects and picking up equipment.

Barrel        500
Bridge        100
Column        500
Guard Tower   300
House         500
Prison Camp   3000
Radar         300
Sentry        50/100
Tank          700

Picking up Items:
Clippers      1000
Key           500
Ladder        500
Mine          20
TNT           40
Wire          200

Finally, fleeing with the POW awards you with 5,000 points.

Time:
`````
At first you have 5:00 minutes to complete a level. Your overall time is also
recorded in the pause menu. You may want to try out for a better time when you
get the hang of the controls. Unfortunately the rounds will accumulate the time
instead of resetting it back to 0. After each round the time to complete a map
is reduced to make things more difficult.
===============================================================================
03.)                    WALKTHROUGH                                  G0300
===============================================================================
Map 1:
``````

On this map you need to collect as many items as you can and avoid the guards.
The can't shoot you through trees but can if you hide in the trenches. So there
is little point in hiding out there. Get collecting or you can't finish the
next few maps. The key is at the end of the map behind the very long dugout,
you can't miss it.

You can kill the guards by touching them, but you risk getting shot getting
closer. You can also shoot your gun, but it slows you down and it's quite hard
to aim properly.

So you don't really need EVERYTHING on the map, but these items for sure:
* At least 1 Ladder
* Around 30 TNT
* 400 Fuse
The more the better. The blue things are mines, the red blocks TNT, the

Map 2:
``````
First you need to get used to controlling the TNT. When you have selected it,
press and hold the A button, then walk away from where you set it down. A beep
will tell you that the TNT is placed on the ground, but if you let go off 'A'
then you blow yourself up. So with this new skill, go near those satellites and
blow them up to make bridges across the water. Make sure you are very far away
when you let go off the button to light the fuse.
There is a gunboat on the right side patrolling the river, it takes a couple of
shots each time it passes through but you will hear it well in advance. Once
you are on the right side you may want to take cover behind the trees. This one
small fence in the top center also blocks the shots.
One other thing to watch out for are those deadly waters. You can't swim, and
it's very easy to fall in. I bet you might have noticed this yourself already.
Grab the key when it's safe to do so.
Map 3:
``````

Try to keep the barrels between you and them. First blow a hole into the fence
with your TNT.

There are tanks patrolling both fences but they are slow and infrequent. Should
they show up, however, don't be anywhere near there.

Start blowing up those barrels with TNT or put mines for the guards to step
into them. I suggest TNT because it's quick and easy. To conserve items, try to
blow up two barrels at once, and maybe you'll even take a guard out in the
process. In the last barrel you will find the key.

Blow through the second fence, a mine against the tank would give more points
but we just want to get out of here, right?!

Map 4:
``````
First blow another hole through the fence like in the previous level.
You should have two ladders. Place them on a wall with the B button. You need
to push the direction of the wall alongside it. When you are over the wall,
pick it up again with the B button alone.
You might have noticed the guard can shoot over the walls, but at least the
ladders block them which might save your life once in a while as you are
climbing over.
After all this climbing exercise you should be prepared to do it quickly on the
last wall. Go to the red part in the middle and quickly climb over, take the
ladder and run down to the key.
Map 5:
``````

It's pitch dark and there is only a small circle of light surrounding you. I
have made a map to help you through the area:

http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/file/dough_boy_map_5.png

Place a TNT at the lower part to blow a hole into the fence. Next move through
the minefield as shown above. Use the scenery to help find where you are, you
can also spot the mines when you are really close. When you get to the end,
place another TNT to break through the fence. Next is a large field of farms
and other buildings. Start placing TNT to blow them up. You can try to blow up
two in one go, but be careful of the large blast radius so you better lay down
a long fuse.

The search lights themselves don't harm you, but they will alert a guard when
you are spotted. If you kill the guard there won't be another one until you get
spotted again. It's also impossible that those search lights can be blown up,
or they disappear as the houses do. When you find the key under one of
buildings, pick it up and enter the small compound in the bottom right. Place a
TNT next to the building and make sure you get out of the area. Often you may
get stuck in a wall and the fuse starts already.

The POW is rescued, but you are not done yet. He will follow you every step you
go. Return to the minefield on the left side and make sure he enters it with
you, as he can easily get stuck in the fence. Now you need to make your way
back to other side of the fence. Take small steps, making sure your rescued
prisoner doesn't set off a mine by himself. He's twitchy, all that POW torture
must have resulted in this. Once you made it through, the game is over.

                                 GOOD LUCK

The final map, already? Yes the game loops after five maps, you simply play
another round. You get less time and I believe the enemies are in larger
amounts and possibly better skilled. The game goes on until you run out of
lives (aka "Left"), so good luck setting the hi-score!
