I dedicate this to Shigeru Miyamoto.  You have created so many games that I
love, and even though you will never see this, I have to thank you for your
hard work and dedication to your craft.

Also, for Cougar.  I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the
afterlife as you did in this world.  You will always be in my memories, and
you will never be forgotten.

Also, In memory of Howler and Koonce.  You two never had a good start in
your lives, but you had a good time when you spent your time at my house.
It was oh so unfortunate that you both had your already tragic lives cut
short, but I can only hope that I helped make your life a more enjoyable
experience.  You too will be missed, but not forgotten.

------------------------------------Introduction----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Here is the collection of the good Donkey Kong arcade series.  These two
  are the games that Shigeru Miyamoto can be proud of (what was with Donkey
  Kong 3 anyway?).  You will control Mario (known as Jumpman back then) in
  Donkey Kong, and you will control Donkey Kong Jr. in ... well, Donkey
  Kong Jr.  The Controls section contains both games controls, but then the
  games are divided up following that into their own separate sections.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------Controls-------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) This section will be sub-divided into different parts for each game.  The
  Donkey Kong controls refer to Mario, and the Donkey Kong Jr. controls
  refer to Donkey Kong Jr.

A Button......: Press this to jump over obstacles, and to get from vine to
               vine.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------Donkey Kong Enemies-----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) This section will list the opposition you will face as you play.

Donkey Kong: This is THE bad guy.  He will let many enemies go to find you,
            and he will even attack you personally if you get too close to
            him.

Barrels....: These roll along girders in level 1.  They can take any ladder
            they want (whole or broken), and they can be jumped.

Fireballs..: This guy will pop out of the barrel of oil whenever a barrel
            arrives.  There a max of 2, and they are fast, with the ability
            to move up the ladders and girders.  They are found in level 1
            and level 2, but they usually stick to the bottom girder row.
            These can be jumped, but with great difficulty.

Jacks......: These bouncing mechanical enemies are thrown by Donkey Kong in
            level 2, and they will bounce across the top girder, and then
            fall down the platforms you need to criss cross to get to the
            top.  They can not be killed, so avoid them with great care.

Flames.....: These are found on level 3.  They move anywhere they want to on
            the level, and they can also track you with some decent
            success.  They are near impossible to jump, so I suggest you
            get good at ladder maneuvering around them, or use the hammer
            to even your odds.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------Donkey Kong Points--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

4) This section will list the point totals you can receive for various
  actions you can perform.

Jumping A Barrel..: 100 points.

Jumping A Fireball: 0 points.

Hammer A Barrel...: 500 points.

Hammer a Flame....: 500 points.

Parasol...........: 500 points.

Purse.............: 800 points.

Removable Brick...: 100 points.

Bonus Score.......: Whatever remains of your original 5,000 points will be
                   awarded upon successful completion of the level.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------Donkey Kong Levels--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

5) This section will list some strategies for each level, and it will also
  give a map of each level to help you visualize your strategies.

                                   =======
                                   Dangers
                                   =======

- The OIL BARREL itself is a threat as it will kill you if you jump into the
 "obstacle".  There should be no reason to do this, as you start to the
 right of it, and you then head right.

- The first barrel is thrown directly downwards to the bottom row of girders
 where it will roll to the left into the OIL BARREL.  This will set the
 barrel ablaze, and a resulting consequence is a Fireball that will patrol
 the bottom two girders in search of you!

- The next set of barrels thrown will roll their way down the girder and
 ladder set-up in an attempt to run you down.  Not all of them will reach
 the OIL BARREL, but they still are a constant threat to your advancement
 to the top of the building.  Jump them as the y approach you, and wait by
 a ladder to see if it will pass you (then climb it if it does).

- The next barrel after the  barrel set mentioned in the previous post
 will be thrown in a zigzag pattern downwards to the bottom girder where
 it will then bounce into the OIL BARREL.  Try not to be directly
 underneath Donkey Kong when this time comes because this barrel moves
 quite rapidly, and thus is near impossible to avoid.

- Once the above cycle has occurred, Donkey Kong will throw a set of
 barrels, a directly downwards barrel, a set of barrels, and then a zigzag
 barrel before starting the pattern again.

- Falling off of any girder to a lower one will finish you off.

                                 ===========
                                 Walkthrough
                                 ===========

Start by heading right, climb the lone ladder that is whole, and then start
running to the left.  Quickly climb the first ladder you come to (this
should be done fast enough that the Fireball will not have enough time to
make it to the second girder to harass you), and then wait to see if the
next barrel is going to pass overhead.  If it does pass, climb the ladder,
and if it does not pass over, then jump it before heading up the ladder.
Head left to the next ladder, wait to see if the barrel passes (if it does,
then head up, if not, then jump it before heading up to the next girder).
Head right, making sure to jump all barrels, and then you face another
ladder.  Now, if the last barrel thrown went down an earlier ladder, keep on
climbing to get up to the final girder.  If you see a barrel approaching,
jump it if it comes down your ladder, but just head straight up if it rolls
by the ladder.  Then you just need to head left hopping any barrels, and
take the ladder up to beside Pauline to finish the level.  Donkey Kong will
promptly take her off to Stage 2!

                                   =======
                                   Dangers
                                   =======

- The Elevators are dangerous to you because if they are too far below you
 when you jump to them, you will die. They also are dangerous because of
 the fast speed they move at.  Touching the top or bottom will kill you as
 well.  Just time your jump onto them as they rise up to you, or just start
 it go down past you.

- There are two Fireballs on this level.  The first one waits for you on the
 the two girders connected by two ladders between the two elevators.  Try
 to time your jump onto the structure when the Fireball is moving away from
 you on the ladder.  The second one is on the far top-right of the screen,
 where it patrols three different girder sections thanks to two ladders
 connecting the three girders.  You can go for the Purse here, but it may
 prove too difficult.  Otherwise, you do not even need to really deal with
 this enemy.

- Jacks are thrown by Donkey Kong, and they bounce across the top girder row
 before falling down through the narrow chasm that is criss-crossed by a
 few small girders.  When climbing through the level, times your jumps onto
 the small girders so the Jack will not be arriving at the same time (be
 sure to vacate quickly as well, or the Jack will arrive soon).  For the
 top row, you have two choices: 1) wait for the Jack to start to pass over,
 and you run right quickly to the ladder which you immediately try to climb
 with great speed (risky), or 2) let the Jack past, and then run right to
 get Mario's hat directly lined up with the third "/\" in the above girder,
 which will allow the Jack to pass, so quickly go left to where the ladder
 is waiting for you to climb it (recommended).

-  Falling off of any girder to a lower one will finish you off.

      =============================================================
      Walkthrough (there will be two different walkthroughs listed)
      =============================================================

1) This walkthrough will give the basic way to finish the level with the
  least amount of risk.

  Start by immediately jumping onto the elevator on the right, and then
  jump to the girder if the Fireball has started up the ladder.  Otherwise,
  ride the elevator to the next girder on the right, and if the Fireball
  has started back down, then go across, but otherwise, jump left to get
  the Parasol, and then head over to the girder on the right via an
  elevator.  Now quickly head over to the next elevator (it is going down),
  and ride it to the bottom where you jump to the girder floating there.
  Head right across the small, rising girder islands path (making sure to
  time your last jump over the pit when the Jack is not coming), climb the
  small ladder, and then time your jump (this is the hardest part of the
  level) onto the small girder when the Fireball AND the Jack are not going
  to get you before you quickly continue to the left to the girder with a
  ladder.  Climb the ladder, jump right, then you can continue right to get
  the Purse on the far top-right, or you can just climb the ladder to the
  top row girder.  Now, use either of the strategies detailed above in the
  Jack DANGERS section, and you have completed the level.

2) This walkthrough will give you the advanced method of completing the
  level, but with an elevated amount of risk.

  Start by climbing up the ladders to the top girder, get the Purse if you
  want to, and then jump onto a rising elevator before hopping to the next
  girder (making sure that the Fireball is not in the way).  Then you need
  to hop onto a descending elevator, and then quickly hop right to the high
  ledge (this is the great shortcut).  You jump to the right to get the
  Purse on the far top-right, or you can just climb the ladder to the top
  row girder.  Now, use either of the strategies detailed above in the Jack
  DANGERS section, and you have completed the level.

                                 ===========
                                 Neat Tricks
                                 ===========

- The Shortcut is accessed by jumping onto the elevator while it descends,
 but then immediately hopping onto the ledge to the right.  This cuts out
 most of the dangers you will face in the level.

- This has no real use, but you can get onto the very bottom row of girders.
 To do this, you need to ride the elevator to the very bottom, and just
 jump off to the left just before the elevator you are on disappears.  You
 can then run around the bottom exploring, but that accomplishes nothing
 more than the ability to go "WOW!  I AM THE COOLEST".

- Flames are the most dangerous opposition you will face on this level.
 They appear one by one till all four are on the screen.  You can not jump
 these bad guys, so run away from them at all times.  Through use of a
 Hammer, you can kill them, but otherwise you need to avoid them as you go
 along.

- Donkey Kong can actually directly attack you on this level!  If you decide
 to try and cut in front of him, he will strike you down dead.  There is no
 way to counteract this, so just find another route to get where you are
 going to.

- Falling off of any girder to a lower one will finish you off.  Also, you
 can fall through the holes in the girders once you remove the Brick.  Be
 sure to jump these holes whenever you need to get by.

                                 ===========
                                 Walkthrough
                                 ===========

There may be more than one way to do this level properly, but I will give
the fastest solution that I use most of the time.

Run left at the start, climb the ladder, run right over the Removable Brick
[ONE], and then climb the next ladder you come to.  Collect the Purse as you
head left over the next Removable Brick [TWO], and then climb the ladder.
Head right over the Removable Brick [THREE], climb the ladder, go left over
the Removable Brick [FOUR], grab the Parasol, and then head down the ladder
to where you will jump the newly opened hole from Removable Brick THREE.
Run right where you now face a possible problem: one of the Flames may have
migrated to the top-right corner!  Use the Hammer if it will not give you a
clear path through, and if it does allow you by, take out the top two
Removable Bricks [FIVE] [SIX].  If you had to use the Hammer, go after the
same two Removable Bricks mentioned previously, and then go down the ladder
to get at the next Removable Brick [SEVEN].  Then you just have to get down
one more ladder to take out the last Removable Brick [EIGHT] while avoiding
the Flames.  Keep in mind that after the FOURTH Removable Brick you will
need to start keeping an eye out for Flames.

  Well, congratulations on rescuing Pauline!  Now you enter Loop 2 of the
  game, and you re-enter Stage 1.  This time however (and each time
  following completion of a Loop) Donkey Kong and his evil cohorts will
  increase the speed of their movements, and the Barrels and the Jacks will
  increase their quantities!

------------------------------Donkey Kong Jr. Enemies-----------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

6) This section will list all of the enemies you will face on your mission
  to rescue Donkey Kong.

Blue Chompers: These are thrown out by Mario on Level 1.  They travel across
              the top platform till they decide to head directly downward
              on a vine till they fall off the screen.  They are a minor
              nuisance, and they are easily avoided.

Red Chompers.: These are similar to the Blue Chompers in shape only.  These
              guys start out already spread over the whole level, and they
              will not be as obliging as the blue ones because they will
              not fall off the screen for you.  Red Chompers patrol a
              certain area, and they have the ability to climb up and down
              vines as well.  These are to be watched for on level 1 and on
              level 4.

Bird Bombers.: These bad old birds will fly around the level trying to hit
              you with their bodies.  To make things worse, they also
              utilize eggs as bombing ordinance in an attempt to send DK
              Jr. packing.  These baddies are level 2 exclusives.

Blue Balls...: These guys will rotate around a platform only partially
              before dropping down to the next platform to repeat the
              procedure.  Keep your head up when on level 4 for these
              fellas.

Red Balls....: These will rotate around one set platform, and they will not
              move off of it regardless of what happens.  A level 3 enemy
              to watch out for.

Bird Stabbers: These guys appear on level 4, and they will fly patterns
              directly through the multiple amount of chains that are used
              by DK Jr.  They will attempt to stab you with their sharp,
              pointy beaks.

- The Blue Chompers will be distributed my Mario on this level, and they
 will dive bomb down a vine in an attempt to run into you.  When they are
 below you on the vine, bump a Fruit to drop it down to kill the Blue
 Chomper off.

- The Red Chompers patrol a specific area (one on the two floating land
 islands, and one on the lower part of the top row of land).  These guys
 tend to actually attempt to get you, but they to are susceptible to a Fruit
 bombing.

- Falling down a space that is larger than Donkey Kong Jr. is too much of a
 fall for the hero, so this can kill you easily.

                                 Walkthrough
                                 ===========

Start off by jumping up to the vine above, get another vine in your free
hand, and quickly climb to where you must move to allow a Blue Chompers to
pass before you continue up to the fruit above (which will kill the
aforementioned Blue Chompers).  Drop off of the right vine to the platform,
take a running leap to get to the next vine, quickly drop down the vine to
fall onto the platform below, and then jump right across the platforms to
get to the vine.  Then make your way left till you can climb upwards, making
sure not to get hit by the Red/Blue Chompers around here.  Once you get up
to the bottom of the top ledge, go right to the last two vines on the right,
which you climb up to reach the final ledge.  Head right, hopping any
Chompers that get in your way, and then hop onto the vine by the ledge near
the Donkey Kong cage to end the level.

- The Jack Jump can be quite hard to do only if you do not land on it
 properly.  Provided you hit it directly in the middle with your jump, it
 will automatically launch you to the right provided you hold RIGHT as
 you fly through the air.

- Bird Bombers have the ability to drop eggs ordinance upon your head, and
 they can also fly into you once you hit the third section of the level.
 Avoid their eggs, avoid their flight paths, and drop fruit on them if
 possible to eliminate their threat to you.

                                 ===========

Jump to the right off of the Jack to land on the wide ledge to the right,
and then hop onto the floating ledge when the floating ledge above your head
is not in your way.  Once across the gap, climb the short chains, go left to
the edge of the ledge, and jump to the moving vine as it nears your
position.  Then, drop to the floating ledge below you when you are over it,
jump to the next moving vine, and then grab the chain to the left.  Climb
the chains, start going right while avoiding the Bird Bombers (possibly
dropping fruit on them for points), and then climb the chains on the far
right.  Get on the ledge, jump the gap once a Bombing Bird passes you
through the hole, jump the gap, and then jump the next charging Bomber Bird
as you grab the chain to get to the exit of the Stage.

- Blue Balls are created by Mario, and they make their way down through the
 platforms.  They can only move downwards upon the "v" paths marked on the
 map above.  They decide which path to take by Donkey Kong Jr.'s location
 in the level.  Drop fruit on them to eliminate them if you like, but since
 they come from above, your best bet is to jump them and then move on to
 the next one.

- Red Balls will patrol one platform, so be aware of them as they make their
 rounds.  Dropping fruit on the one that is patrolling the platform you are
 on will make that section much easier, but otherwise just jump them as you
 progress along.

- Falling down a space that is larger than Donkey Kong Jr. is too much of a

                                   =======
                                   Dangers
                                   =======

- Bird Stabbers are released by Mario, and they will patrol their way
 downwards through the level in an attempt to stab you with their large
 beaks.  Avoid them at all costs, and drop some fruit on them for some
 temporary relief from their attacks.

- Red Chompers will go up and down the chains in an attempt to get you.  All
 you can really do is just avoid them as you go along through the level.

- Fall off of a chain from almost any height to finish Donkey Kong Jr. off
 from a severe fall.

                                 ===========
                                 Walkthrough
                                 ===========

Start by jumping up onto the chain above, grab the chain to your right, and
then quickly climb up to the top of the chains while pushing the KEY above
you into the lock [ONE].  Now go down a single chain to the bottom, go right
till you have hold of the two chains closest to you with a KEY on each, and
then repeat the climb to the top pushing both as you go [TWO][THREE].  Now
move back down (the Bird Stabbers should be harassing you) to the bottom,
drop off of the chain, run to the right to the second last chain, and using
two chains (one with the solo KEY) to push the aforementioned KEY up to the
lock [FOUR].  Now, make your way downwards again, and then push the last two
KEYS up to the remaining two locks while avoiding the Bird Stabbers/Red
Chomper attacks.  Congratulations on finishing the final stage!

  Well, congratulations on rescuing Donkey Kong!  Now you enter Loop 2 of the
  game, and you re-enter Stage 1.  This time however (and each time
  following completion of a Loop) Mario and his evil cohorts will increase
  the speed of their movements, and the Blue Chompers, Red Chompers, and
  Blue Balls will increase their quantities!

  An absolute must for anyone who plays video games.  This is THE game that
  gave birth to the second coming of video games, and the birth of a truly
  successful home gaming console.  It may be simple, crude, and easy, but
  you should still give it a look over.
