Beauty and the Beast is an old classic, and this also happens to be an old
game. With so little(actually, none at the time of this FAQ) FAQs available
for it, I decided to help out the gaming community a little(and the NES FAQ
completion project) with this pretty little document that you are laying your
eyes on. I hope you enjoy the show.
The goal of the Beauty and the Beast video game is to proceed through each
level by reaching the door that leads to the next part. Here are the controls:
*You can also do an aerial punch by pressing A, then B.
The controls will stay the same for MOST of the game. In certain parts, a few
functions may be changed which will be explained in the walkthrough.
On your screen you will see several things. On the bottom left side of your
screen, you will see a heart and a number next to it. That's the number of
lives that you have. <3
You should also see four rose blossoms next to that. That's your life meter.
One attack does not mean one rose gone! Remember that.
And next to that is a rose covered by glass. This is your time limit. The rose
will slowly wither away as you play through the level. When it's dead, you
lose a life. Finish the level before the rose dies. The rose will be in full
blossom every time you finish one "part" of a level.
At the bottom right, you will see your score. Try to finish the game with the
highest score possible! I don't think that there are any bonuses for a high
score though.
While playing, you may see bubbles. Touch these with Beast to gain points. You
also gain points for defeating enemies.
The beginning of the game isn't much. Just watch the intro of what the game is
about. You can skip over this by pressing Start or A. This should bring you to
the start of the first level.
Walk to the right. Roar at the two bats to freeze them, then jump and punch
the, down. Jump over the pit and proceed up the path. Collect the red book,
then jump over the other pit. Continue. Walk past the door and climb up the
pillar. Jump over the two gaps and hold onto the wall. Note: You can climb
down for a few extra points. Anyway, climb up and over the pillar.
Jump over the pit and climb up another pillar. Fall to the right, then jump
right into the pit. Make sure to hug the wall though; there is a spike
platform in the middle. When you reach the land, follow the candlestick. It
will light up the place for you. Punch away the spiders and whatnot. Make sure
to keep that candlestick in sight! You don't want to die in the dark.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.1A] Part 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2 is harder than part 1. At the start, go left. Touch the magnifying
glass to see part of the level. Keep walking right and dodge the firebreathing
statues. You should get to a staircase. On the top of the stairs, there is a
statue. The statue will fall down and damage you. Be sure to dodge that.
When you get up the long flight of stairs, make a long jump to the right. Walk
up the stairs to the left, then make the jump to the next platform on the
right. Keep walking that way and head over the gaps. You should eventually
come upon some spikes. Jump over them to the right. When you see the gap, fall
down and continue right. You should go up some more stairs. You'll know you're
heading in the right direction when you go up a large staircase with a flying
red thing.
Jump across the stair ledges. You should eventually get to a door. The two
gargoyles around it will become active and start attacking you. Hit each three
times. Wait for them to swoop down, then give 'em a jumping punch. After the
gargoyles are set out of their misery(er, dead), you will be able to go
through the door and onto the next part.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.1B] Part 3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the start, go left. Punch the heads that come off. Also, watch out for the
chandeliers. Not only can the actual thing hurt you, the pieces that break
from it can too. Keep going left until you see some drapes which are hanging
in the air. Jump and climb to the top. Jump towards the right.
Here, keep going right. You should see a climbable drape, but it'll lead
nowhere except to a few extra points. Keep going right. Jump over the candles;
they are not defeatable. When you reach the gap, make sure to jump OVER it.
The drape there is NOT climbable. Keep going right to see your familiar
friends, the spikes. Jump over them until you reach the drapes over the gap.
This one is climbable, so climb up and jump over to the right. Continuing to
the right should eventually lead to a dead end. What you have to do is climb
down the drapes that were before the dead end.
Walk to the right and you should find some more drapes. Climb up, then head
left. As you walk left, you should see some dudes come out of holes. Punch
them before they have a chance to attack you. Keep going left until you see
some drapes. Clumb up and jump to the left. You'll see some armor with
weapons. Wait for the weapons to drop before jumping over them. You should
then reach the door and move onwards to part 4.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.1C] Part 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're almost out of Beast's dungeon of a castle. This level is nothing but a
boss battle. If you haven't noticed, B is no longer punch. Beast pulls out
this thing instead. Walk forward to see a knight. Jump over him first and
proceed to the end of the hall. Press B on Mrs. Potts. You'll now throw some
fire!
Wait for the knight to come closer. Mash B. After it's hit enough, it'll
change colors. Jump over it and onto the top of the stairs if the knight gets
too close. We don't want to get damaged. Hit it enough times and you'll defeat
it. Once that's over, we'll be able to go through the door.
If you're sick of dungeons, then this will be a great sight for you. Proceed
right. Defeat all the enemies here(if you want); you've seen them in previous
levels so you should know how to defeat them. When you get to the thin bridge,
you'll fall down. Go right and you'll be inside a cave. Oh joy.
Inside the cave, go right. Avoid the falling green spikes. They're just like
the chandeliers; the actual object can hurt you and also the pieces after it
falls. Jump over the spike pit and continue. You should come upon wiggly green
things. I have no idea what these are, but they'll kill you. Jump and punch to
destroy them. When you get to the top of the hill, go right. Jump over the
water geysers. It seems like you can walk over them, but actually can't.
Walk down the hill. You should see some more green stuff. Punch through all
of them, even the stuff on the ground. When you get to the very right, climb
the wall. Jump up where there are no spikes. You can go up right through the
platforms. Turn left and jump over the spikes. Walk until you reach the water
geysers again. Jump over them.
Continue going left. Jump over the spike pits and watch out for the falling
green spikes, especially the pieces that break after them. Climb up the wall,
then jump up the platforms. This is just like before. Jump all the way to the
left. You can't see the platform, but it's there. Proceed up. When you get to
the top, the path there will lead to a dead end. That's OK, just fall down and
hold right to hug the wall. You should end up on a new path.
On the new path, walk right and jump over the geysers and spike pits. Keep
going right and you'll eventually get to the exit of the cave.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.2A] Part 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walk left on the river. Make sure you jump over the gaps. Punch that yellow
animal and watch out for falling logs. Jump up the ledges, then across the
waterfall via the purple rock. Move quickly as it will break. You can make it
to the platform to the top, but you'll have to hold A and hang onto it. Pull
yourself up, then proceed. The rest of the level is very straightforward. Keep
proceeding up and follow the ledges.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.2B] Part 3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This level is an ice level. Every time you jump or move, you'll slide a little
bit. Walk right and punch the new enemy goodbye. Then head over the pits(be
careful, especially if you're new to these kinds of levels. Go slowly.) then
onto the moving ice. Jump to the right and over the pits. You'll eventually
come upon some more moving ice. Get across this part and you'll find yourself
at a dead end, with a boss!
This boss is easy once you learn how to deal with it. Wait for the lion to
pounce. Dodge left, then move right and punch it as many times as you can
before it runs away. Then, move right against the tree facing left and wait
for it to appear. Once it appears, run left to avoid the pounce and repeat the
process. Once it's defeated, go next to the tree to proceed to the next level.
This is a new concept. Heh, catch all of the snowballs that Belle throws. If
you miss three, then you lose a life. When you catch about 5 or 6 of them,
she'll move left. Follow her. Make sure that you are still and facing her when
the snowballs come your way, or you'll miss. She'll get faster as the level
progresses. It's very difficult. Run after her when you're done playing with
the snow.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.2A] Part 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're back indoors again. Head left at the begining of the level. Punch away
the books, then climb up the ladder. Going right a little bit will lead you to
a ladder, but don't climb it. Keep walking right to see a dented rail. Jump
over that space or you'll fall down. Climb the ladder at the end of the path.
Keep walking right until you find another ladder. Climb up, then start going
back left. You should soon see a high ladder. Jump up to that, then jump
across the very long gaps to the right. Keep going to see a ladder. Ignore it
and climb the next one to the right. Proceed left and jump over the broken
railings hidden gap. Jump onto the ladder and climb up some more. Jump across
the longs gaps to the left until you reach a ladder.
Go right after climbing that ladder. This platform can be a bit tricky. Just
walk right and watch out for any broken railings. At the end of the path,
climb up the ladder. Walk left and you'll see a shadow in one of the windows.
A monster will pop out. It's a bit tricky to handle from here, so keep walking
left until you reach the end of the path. The little monster will hover for a
little while, so use this time to jump up and hit it several times before it
retaliates. Run right, then back left. Jump up and hit some more to repeat the
process. After about six or seven hits, the monster will fall. Walk right to
finish the level.
Ah, almost done. Walk right at the start of the level. You should eventually
come upon some holes. These will lit up with sparks when lightning flashes, so
be careful when crossing them. Jump across the moving platform and continue
right. Jump an another moving platform. Carefully proceed up when the
platforms line up with each other, then over to the left. This platform is
like a trampoline and will fire you straight up. Land on the slippery green
platform.
Try not to jump too high when proceeding left. This lightning on the roof
might strike you and that'll cause uneeded damage. When on the flat ground,
watch out for those gaps. They are similar in color to the walls so you might
miss them. You should soon get to some stairs. Beast moves faster when walking
down stairs. Be sure to still watch out for the lightning strikes.
You should get to a dead end. On the lower platform, make one, super long
jump to the right and you'll hang on a platform. Go right and you'll end up at
a door that leads to the next level!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.4A] Part 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy for the most part, compared with the last part. Just run right. You can't
kill the enemies, so collect the things in the air and jump right over their
attacks until you reach the door. Not much guidance possible on this one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.4B] Part 3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the final level. For now, run. The layout of most of the level is the
same. Gaston will try to hit you with a bow and arrow or punch you if he's
close. If he gets too close, sock Gaston with one of your own punches and run.
This will be the precedure until you reach the top of the castle. From here,
wait for Gaston to come. Punch him repeatedly. If you can't notice, he'll move
slightly for every hit you land and you'll move slightly for every hit he
lands. Punch until he falls off the castle.
Watch the small ending scene. CONGRATULATIONS! You beat Beauty and the Beast!
Q: Are there any bonuses for getting a high score?
A: Nope, as far as I know.
Q: How do I kill those rats on this first level?
A: Continue moving left or right and they'll fall off. Just standing there
will kill you.
Q: Is there anything that happens after the ending screen?
A: Nope. No credits either. :P
Q: What is the purpose of the score?
A: Nothing, I guess. It's just something
