]===========================[Introduction]============================[

First of all, I'm allergic to dust. So when I pulled my old-school
Nintendo out after nearly a generation of storage to write for this
game, I blew the crud off the top of it and almost had a friggan' heart
attack. Man I loved this game back when I was but a wee lad, and as I
often have found myself doing lately, I was piddling through GameFAQs
request list and found that no one had written for this game yet.
Shocked and appalled, I was, to say the least. So I'm going to take my
shot at this. My hands are a little too big for the controller now, and
I have to fight my NES constantly to get past the flashing gray screen
of doom, but the nostalgia of writing for this great game should more
than make up for those technical difficulties.

]===========================[Game Controls]===========================[

]============================[Game Screen]============================[

During game play there are a few gauges and numbers you should be
aware of. At the bottom of the TV screen, underneath the main game area
where your plane is flying, there is a large gray panel. On this panel
is all the information you need to know to be flying in top form.

-All the way on the left is the Altimeter gauge. It is a vertical black
gauge that reads "ALT" with a red slider. As you change altitude, the
red slider will move up or down corresponding with your change in
height. The higher the slider, the higher up you are, and the lower the
slider, the closer to the ground you are. Try to stay as high as
possible at all times to avoid crashing into the terrain.

-Right next to the Altimeter is the Power Gauge. It is a vertical black
gauge that reads "POW". The further up the red slide on the Power Gauge
is, the faster your plane will travel. There is usually a default speed
for every level so you don't have to worry about this too much.

-To the right of the Power Gauge is the Speedometer. It displays how
fast the plane is traveling. It really has no use; it's just there to
be interesting.

-Right underneath the Speedometer is the Lives Counter. It has a small
plane icon followed by the number of remaining lives you have. If your
plane is destroyed you loose a life. If you run out of lives, it's game
over, bub.

-To the right of the Speedometer and Lives Counter is the Information
Display. It rarely does anything useful, much less important, but every
now and then a message will appear in the box instructing you to do
something in particular, such as preparing to dock with the Space
Station.

-To the right of the Information Display is a series of counters. At
the very top is the Score Display. Every time you perform certain
things, like destroying an enemy, you will get points, which are added
to your score, which is listed here. You get extra lives for every
100,000 points, and credits, which can be used to purchase new weapons,
are given based on your score. If you have to use a continue your score
is reset to 0.

-Underneath the score display is your weapons and credit counters. The
missile icon in the top-left keeps track of your supply of AIM54
PHOENIX missiles. You can not carry more than four AIM54 PHOENIX
missiles at a time. The missile icon in the bottom-left keeps track of
your stock of MAVERICK AGM missiles, which are limited to four as well.
The icon in the top-right keeps track of your credits, which are used
to buy upgrades for your plane and additional missiles. The maximum is
99 credits. The V-shaped icon in the bottom-right keeps track of your
HAWK BOMBS. You can carry a maximum of twelve HAWK BOMBS per mission.

-On the farthest right is the Fuel Gauge. It is a vertical black gauge
that reads "FUEL". It will slowly deplete as you fly. When the red
slide reaches the bottom of the gauge, your fuel tank is empty, and
your plane will explode and you lose a life. Your Fuel Gauge will be
completely refilled afterwards. You don't really have to worry about
this because the fuel guage takes such a long time to deplete that
unless you sit there and wait for it to empty, you will not run out of
fuel during the normal time required to complete a mission.

]==============================[Weapons]==============================[

AIM54 PHOENIX: These missiles are used during the brief Destroy Enemy
Fighter Planes missions. When you press the B Button when your reticle
is over an enemy plane, you will lock on to them. Pressing the B Button
a second time after you have achieved a lock on will fire the AIM54 at
the target, and it will home in on them and destroy them. They can be
useful for destroying planes while evading missiles fired at you, but
overall you probably wont get much use out of them. You can carry a
maximum of four AIM54 PHOENIX missiles at a time, and they cost 2
CREDITS per missile.

MAVERICK AGM: Perhaps the most useless missile, if only because of its
randomness. Whenever you Press B, you may (or may not) release a
MAVERICK missile. It will shoot forward and explode sending out
multiple warheads that will hit every enemy currently on the screen.
You can carry a maximum of four MAVERICKS at a time, and they cost 5
CREDITS per missile.

25 MM CANNON: The primary weapon of your airplane, the CANNON is
mounted in the nosecone of the plane and will spew hot lead death
straight forward into your enemies. At first it will have a slow rate
of fire, so it is better to quickly tap the A Button to achieve a
faster fire rate rather then hold the A button down. When upgraded, the
CANNON will get an increased rate of fire. Its maximum upgrade is Canon
5, which will fire nonstop as long as you hold down the A Button. It is
10 CREDITS for every upgrade.

HAWK BOMBS: Probably the most useful type of missile, the HAWK BOMBS
will release three incendiary fireballs in a fan shape outwards from
the front of the plane when you press the B Button. Very useful for
obliterating tightly packed enemies, or doing quick damage to mission
bosses, but use of them is disabled during the supply missions. You can
carry a maximum of twelve, and they cost 2 CREDITS for every one round.

]============================[Walkthrough]============================[

 /-------------------------------/
/ Mission 1: Destroy Enemy Base /
/-------------------------------/

Creepy aliens are poised to invade Earth. It's up to you to boot
their asses off our planet. Simple enough. The first Mission is pretty
easy. The green field is easy on the eyes, too. When you begin a
mission you will be on a runway, and you will slowly pick up speed.
Hold down on the D-Pad to increase your altitude as your speed
increases and you will take off into the wild blue yonder to fight the
evil alien invasion. As with all fighter plane games, anything that is
on the screen that isn't either your fighter jet or the terrain, is
evil and should be killed with maximum aggression. The various enemies
will consist of things like helicopters, tops, tiny pyramids that look
like a failed origami experiment, and dune buggies, among other
assorted devices and crafts. These evil machines will fire their white
balls of death straight down. The enemies in this game are a really
terrible shot. They can only shoot straight down so if you get hit,
it's usually because you were dumb enough to run into the enemy's line
of fire. If you get hit, you will explode in a glorious 8-Bit fireball
and lose a life. You start with four lives, and when you run out you
are taken to the GAME OVER screen, where you have the option of
continuing the from the beginning of the level you lost your last life
on. You have three continues, after that it is GAME OVER for good. So
just don't get hit, so you won't die! Another fantastic way to avoid
death is to not hit the walls. Hitting the walls on the sides of the
level, or hitting the trees, mountains, jagged rock formations and
other terrain obstacles will cause you to explode. ALWAYS hold the down
direction button on the D-Pad to maintain maximum altitude. This alone
will prevent you from crashing into all terrain obstacles in the game,
side walls excluded. Destroy enemies with your CANNON or missiles to
get points.

Fly through and when you reach the end you will hear a funky beat
start to play. You have reached the boss of the mission. It consists of
four balls, and one center power doohickey. All four balls and the
center area are capable of firing white balls of death at you. Sweep
back and forth across the area firing your CANNON, or using HAWK BOMBS.
After a ball is hit six times, it will get a small orange hole blown in
the top of it. That indicates that that ball has been destroyed, so
move on to the other three balls. Avoid being hit at all costs, because
you will have to start the fight from the beginning, so any balls you
destroyed will now be in tip-top shape. After all four balls have been
destroyed; you will be able to attack the center portion. Hit it six
times and it will explode in a fury of psychedelic screen flashes and
you will fly off to the next part of the Mission.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

In Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes, you destroy the enemy fighter
planes. Duh? Move your target reticle over the square reticle around
the enemy planes and fire your CANNON with the A Button, or lock on and
fire a PHOENIX missile by hitting B twice. There will be thirty-two
planes in every Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes mission. You get one
credit for every one enemy fighter plane that you destroy so try to net
at least twenty kills. When all thirty-two planes have flown their
course, this segment of he mission will end and you will move on.

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------

All right. This will be your first time landing at the Space
Station, so I'll run you through it. The Space Station is your base. It
contains the shop where you can purchase upgrades and missiles for the
credits you obtain during the previous missions. When the docking
process begins, you will be on a starry space-background, and the space
station will enter for the top of the screen and stop in the center of
the screen. To dock with the Space Station you have to use the B Button
to go into a spinning dive and enter the black slot in the center of
the large spinning blue circle that make up the main section of the
Space Station. If you miss the black slot, you will explode and lose a
life. Use extreme caution when maneuvering into position to attempt to
enter the Space Station. DO NOT hold down the buttons on the D-Pad.
This will throw you across the screen. NEVER EVER press the left or
right buttons on the D-Pad! You are perfectly aligned in the center
from the moment the docking process begins. Pressing left or right will
ruin your alignment and you will have to correct it manually, so save
yourself the stress and just don't hit left or right, EVER! Now, you
start at the top-center of the screen. Lightly tap down on the D-Pad
three times and your plane will slowly drift down. When your plane is
over the black slot in the center of the space station, lightly tap up
one time to straighten out and stop moving. If you over shoot your
mark, lightly tap up on the D-Pad two more times and you will begin
moving up. Hit down on the D-Pad once while you are over the black slot
to stop. Hit the B Button and your plane will go into a spin and fly
into the base.

Once you are inside the base you will be taken to the shop screen,
where you can purchase upgrades, missiles, and bombs. Head to the
CANNON area, and spend as much on the CANNON as possible. You should be
able to buy at least two upgrades this time through, so spend away. Do
not buy anything else after buying the CANNON upgrades. Save your
credits for more upgrades on the CANNON next time. Exit the Cannon sub-
menu and select NEXT MISSION to exit the Space Station.

 /-------------------------------------/
/ Mission 2: Drop Supplies in Crosses /
/-------------------------------------/

All right, your forces are besieged by aliens in the desert. It is
your job to drop supplies in their crosses. Use the B Button to drop
the supply packages. The use of HAWK BOMBS has been disabled in this
mission, so the B Button will only drop supplies and fire MAVERICK
missiles. You absolutely must watch out for volcanoes in this mission.
Fly close to the right wall to avoid the volcanoes. When you fly past a
volcano, it will erupt, spewing rocks in every direction. If you fly
over, or close to a volcano, the flying rocks WILL destroy you. So just
stay the hell away from them. Now about the supply crosses, there are
two of them you need to nail. If you keep an eye out for a sphinx
statue, you will know that a supply cross is coming up. When you see
the sphinx, start to line up your shot. The cross is shaped like an
"X". You have to drop the supplies in the hole in the center. When you
are about one square under the hole, hit B and the supplies should make
it in. Once it makes it in the hole will close. If you miss the shot,
you will get another try at it on the next pass. The stage will loop
infinitely until you either supply both crosses, or die. When you
supply both crosses the stage will end.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------
This gets a little more difficult. This time, the planes will
actually return fire. Planes coming at you from the front will fire off
missiles at you now. They look like gray fireballs. Avoid the missiles
the enemies fire at you at all costs, even if it means not being able
to destroy the plane shooting it at you. If you get hit, your plane
will begin smoke and the controls will become erratic, and then in five
seconds your plane will explode. So don't get hit! After all thirty-two
planes fly by the mission ends.

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------

Again use extreme caution when pressing buttons to avoid being
thrown crazily across the screen. Line up with the black slot and press
B to enter. When you get to the upgrade screen, finish purchasing your
CANNON upgrades. It should now be max level, and that is good! After
you are done with the CANNON upgrades, spend your remaining CREDITS on
HAWK BOMBS, and then leave for the next mission.

 /-------------------------------/
/ Mission 3: Destroy Enemy Base /
/-------------------------------/

This mission is exactly like Mission 1, except there are different
enemies and the terrain is purple. Oh, and it's also FAST! I mean it is
FAST FAST! Really fast! Which can cause you to crash if you aren't
quick enough to respond. If you want to slow down, you can press the
Select Button, and it will decrease your speed greatly, making it
easier to not die. But if you do die, the game will automatically
decrease your speed. During the mission are also annoying as hell
super-planes that bug you during the entire mission. They will fly in
front of you and fire backwards. This can be lethal during the parts
where you only have a single square in between the walls to fly though.
When you do destroy a plane, another one will soon appear to take its
place. Just learn to live with them. The boss at the end is another
enemy base. There are four balls, and a main reactor segment thing,
just like last time. But this time you have your supped up machine-gun
CANNON. You will easily be able to completely slaughter the base just
by holding down the A-Button and sweeping left to right. With the high
rate-of-fire your upgraded CANNON has, you will score at least one hit
on every ball during every sweep. Break the four balls, and then
destroy the center portion to move on.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

Just like last time. Enemy planes from the front fire missiles at
you. Avoid them at all costs. After the thirty-two planes come and go
it's on to the space station.

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------
Dock with the Space Station by entering the black slot. Since you
maxed out your CANNON last time, there isn't much left to do but stock
up on missiles and bombs. Stock up on HAWK BOMBS first. Once you reach
your limit on HAWK BOMBS, stock up on MAVERICKS and PHOENIX missiles
and the head to the next mission.

 /------------------------------/
/ Mission 4: Pick Up Scientist /
/------------------------------/

This mission shares the same map as Mission 1, except now there is
water, and boats for enemies. Nothing really special at all, and there
really isn't anything to be particularly wary of outside of the normal
enemies. It's pretty straight-forward just like Mission 1. At the end
is the boss. It consists of four houses lined up in a row. The houses
have strange eyeballs that fire white death balls. Sweep from side to
side spamming your CANNON. Be careful though, the side walls do not
give you very much room to maneuver. The two middle houses will not
fire at you, but the outside two will. Destroy the outside two first.
You may not be able to hit the inside two houses because of your planes
angle. Tap the up button to tip your planes nose downwards to give you
a better shot at the two inner houses. After they are destroyed, shoot
the electrical barrier containing the scientist in the middle of the
runway. The barrier will break; you will pick up the scientist, get
some useless-ass half of a super secret weapon, and end the stage.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

All right, now the planes coming from behind you are angry enough to
start shooting missiles at you. Luckily there will only be one missile
on screen at a time, so dodging won't be too difficult. As usual there
will be thirty-two planes before the stage ends.

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------

Enter the base via slot and then stock up on any missiles or bombs
that you may need. That's all you can do, so just leave once your done
shopping around.

 /-------------------------------/
/ Mission 5: Destroy Enemy Base /
/-------------------------------/

This mission is exactly like Mission 1, except that the enemies will
once again be different, and they will be a little more aggressive.
Besides a color change of the level, that is the only difference. You
should know the lay out like the back of your hand by now so just
cruise along until you get to the boss. The boss is another enemy base.
Sweep from the right to the left while holding down the A Button to
tear the base balls apart with your CANNON. After six hits on every
segment, it will be destroyed and this part of the Mission will end.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

The enemy planes seem to get an increase in speed; they will still
fire rockets at you coming from the front or the bottom-back of you.
After all thirty-two planes fly by, you go to the next part.

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------

Dock with the Space Station, just like all the other times you've
done it. It's not like anything new and interesting is going to happen.
After docking, stock up on any missiles or bombs you need and then
leave for the net mission.

 /-------------------------------------/
/ Mission 6: Drop Supplies in Crosses /
/-------------------------------------/

Once again, this mission uses the same exact map as Mission 1,
except it has been replaced with a desert tileset. Remember to watch
out for and stay the hell away from the volcanoes. Just like last time
you have to use the B Button to drop a supply packet into the hole in
the middle of the Crosses. Just like last time, there will always be a
Sphinx statue located before a Cross, so when you see the sphinx you
know you are about to pass over one of the two crosses in the mission.
Line up your shot, and hit the B Button right as your passing over the
tile just below the opening in the Cross. After you succeed in dropping
supplies in both Crosses the mission will end.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

Just like always, there will be thirty-two planes. Don't get hit by
any enemy missiles. After all the enemy planes fly by, the mission
ends. Hooray...

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------

You should really be getting good at this! Just dock with the Space
Station, fill up on any bombs and missiles you may need, and leave via
the designated exit.

 /-------------------------------/
/ Mission 7: Destroy Enemy Base /
/-------------------------------/

This mission, aside from a color change in the terrain, is exactly
like Mission 3. And since it is exactly like Mission 3, that means it
uses the exact same map as Mission 1. BLAH! You should have memorized
every enemy position into your mind by now, so what is coming up should
be no surprise. This is another FAST AS HELL mission too, so you may
just want to lower your planes speed just to insure you don't get blown
away. Again, there will be that annoying plane that will fly in front
of you and shoot backwards. Try to take these out as fast as possible.
At the end of the road, as always, is the Enemy Base. Sweep across the
screen while spamming your Cannon and you will make short work of its
four balls, then attack the center portion. After the center portion of
the base is destroyed, you will move on to the next part of the
mission.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

Guess what? Not a darn thing has changed since the last four or so
times you've done this. Just don't get shot down. After all thirty-two
planes have done their thing you'll move on.

Dock with Space Station
-----------------------

Dock with the Space Station through the little black slot, just like
always. This will be your last time here, so if you need anything at
all, buy it now, because you will not be coming back again. After you
have bought everything you needed, leave the space station for the last
mission.

 /------------------------------/
/ Mission 8: Pick Up Scientist /
/------------------------------/

This mission is another over-seas mission. It shares the same map as
Mission 4 (which actually shares the same map as Mission 1). Everything
is pretty much general here, but there is one thin you should really
take heed of. Mines. There are enemy mines in this mission. They will
pop out of the water about a second before you get to them. They look
like partially submerged orange balloons, and they are of the devil.
Mines are so ridiculously powerful they will have you singing the
blues. When you pass near a mine, it will explode, sending debris
flying. If this debris hits you, you explode. Mines are so damn hard to
avoid it isn't funny. Try to stay in the center of the area, away from
the walls. When a mine or series of mines appears, try to shoot out as
many as you can as they pop out of the water, or emergency roll out of
the way by holding SELECT and either left or right. If you make it past
all the damned mines the boss will be another four eyeball houses. This
time the bottom middle two houses will be attacking. Sweep from left to
right firing your CANNON and destroy the outer two houses first. Take
care because the walls are rather close, so your available room to
maneuver is limited. After the two outer houses are destroyed, tap up
on the D-Pad a few times to lower your planes nose so you have a clear
shot at the lower inner two houses. Sweep across the screen holding
down A Button and trash the remaining two houses. After all four houses
are destroyed, fire on the psychedelic force-field on the runway to
destroy it and free the scientist. You will land, the scientist will
climb aboard, and this part of the mission will end with you getting
the second half of the crazy secret weapon.

Destroy Enemy Fighter Planes
----------------------------

All right. Thank God this is the last time you will be doing this.
Just avoid all the missiles fired at you. One all thirty-two planes are
finished their runs, you will move on to confront the evil leader of
the alien invaders!!!

Destroy Enemy Space Station
---------------------------

This can be very difficult given the controls for space flying are
so crazy. If you throw caution to the wind, you will end up flinging
your plane across the screen, making it tough as hell to line up your
shots properly. On the other hand, if you take your sweet time, you
will surely be shot down. You will be up against the evil Enemy Space
Station. This baddie is composed of one large center circle, with four
slightly smaller circles tick out of its top, bottom, left, and right
sides. There are also several smaller circles sticking out the sides of
it for a total of sixteen circles, and the one center circle. It can
fire two gray orbs out of any of its circles, as long as the circle has
not been destroyed. The gray orbs will head to where your plane was
when the orbs were fired. Needless to say, if one hits you, you
explode. Use your CANNON to blast the circles. They only require one
hit to be destroyed. After all of the outer sixteen circles are
destroyed, the large center circle will open revealing... A GIANT ICKY
EYEBALL!!! The pupil of the eyeball will fire gray orbs just like the
rest of the space station did, but these orbs are MUCH more accurate.
Hit the creepy alien eyeball three times with your CANNON and the space
station will be destroyed. Congratulations! You won. You kicked the
alien menace of our damn planet! Now enter your high score!
