Introduction
************

Kickboxing is a fighting sport. It involves an incredible skillful mastery of
lethal movements and strikes directed from both the foot and the fist.

===============================================================================
Modes
*****

Move the directional buttons around for the options at the main screen. Press
START, A or B to select an option. There are several options to choose from:

-Reset: This allows the player to reset the game from the very beginning and
       pursue a new quest.

-Pad-vs-NES: Play Pad vs NES, or NES vs Pad, or even Pad vs Pad which is 2
Player mode. Player 1 is on the left, Player 2 is on the right.
Therefore, the other options will switch the Pad player from left
            to right as desired.

-Grading: This displays the high scores for various players, in dollar amounts
and prizes won. Dollars are the strength level of a boxer, the
resistance to attack and reflexes. The trophies are won titles.

-Selects Hits: There are a total of 32 hits available in Kickboxing. Each
player can only have a total of 8 to their disposal.

-Load: Resume an earlier game by inputting a password.

-Save: Gives you a password for resuming later on.

-Physical Type: Characteristics of a player such as strength, reflexes and
               resistance and nationality.

-Name: Customize the name of your opponents.

-Preview: Watch a game without playing yourself, for learning tactics and
         moves.

-Next: Cycle through all the opponents you will encounter in the ring.

-Training: Improve your boxers strength, reflexes and resistance. The higher
the stats, the stronger your boxer. After just one training session
these will increases dramatically, but it will be less rewarding in
future sessions. Resistance makes it tougher to be knocked down,
strength yields more damage, reflexes improves parry. To improve
these, press A and B quickly to raise resistance and strength. For
reflexes you must hit three targets and the more you hit the better
          your reflexes become.

-Match: Play an actual match, the core of the game. Details in other section.

Controls
********

During a fight these are the controls you need to know:

Match
*****

Each round lasts 1 minute. There is a light above the corner of each boxer and
the brighter one is currently leading the match. Yellow is the maximum it can
reach, means max physical shape. Orange is medium and black is null. If all
four are black then the boxer is knocked out and loses.

Move around to one of the eight positions and strike a blow with A or B. To hit
your opponent it must strike in an unprotected area of the body such as head,
torso or thigh. The strike will miss if you are too close or too far away from
the opponent.

Striking a blow depends on several factors: the strength of the hit, the
resistance of the opponent, the power of the blow and the part of the body that
was hit.

To parry, press DOWN.

At the end of each round there is a 30 second recovery time to regain some lost
strength and vitality. One fighter also regains some energy when the other is
on the ground during a round.

When two boxers get too close to each other, the clinch. The referee with
separate them.

When you are not facing the opponent, because you were hit for example, turn
around quickly. Simply do not press any button and turn to face the opponent,
but even better is to press DOWN to parry as you turn around automatically.

When one boxer is knocked down, the referee counts to eight to give him time to
recover. If the boxer does not, the other fighter is the winner.

At the end of the last round, the boxer with more lit projectors wins the
fight. If the loser has trophies then the winner gets the smallest one. Tough
fights that last long and are closely fought out will increase the stats of the
boxer. As you win fights you progress in ranks and add titles to your
collection.

Kumate
******

After several wins in a tournament you will receive an invitation to the Kumate.
You have to fight against special opponents with no rules like in the normal
match.

Tips
****

- Make sure you hit good blows and not just randomly button-bash to get a lucky
hit. It does not work that way.

- Distance is important, you will soon notice. Get the right distance for your
blows and they will be rewarding rather than end up with nothing.

- Change blows rather than simply trying the same one over and over again. The
opponent will recognize the pattern and defend too easily. It is also
important to remember that if both boxers end up with the same points at the
end, the one with the most varied blows wins the fight.

- If you notice an opponent that shrugs his shoulders at your blows, this means
he is unmotivated to fight you. In this round the power and reflexes are
 decreased.

- Never ever have your back in a corner, it is the worse position in the ring.
Quickly get out of there. However it is a great place to get your opponent
into as they cannot move around well in that position.
