[HELP]
Battle Rush: Build Up Robot Tournament (バトルラッシュ) is a game for
the Nintendo Famicom, only playable with the Datach accessory released by
Bandai. Despite that, the game does not ever actually use the Datach's main
feature, its barcode scanner, so whether or not this was an 'exclusive' meant to
throw a bone to Datach owners or not is up in the air.
The game's basic premise is that of a robot-construction and battling
game. A player will first be required to build a robot from scratch in a factory
(not as difficult as it sounds), then goes out to participate in four
tournaments of escalating difficulty. Winning the Master-Class tournament will
give you Battle Rush's ending.
Through winning tournaments, you can also obtain prize money. This
allows you to change a few parts on your robot such as its weapons (though most
of its frame is determined at the start, and cannot be changed without creating
a new robot, which drops you back to the Beginner Class tournament only), as
well as manually upgrading the stats on your robot.

Beginning your Game
-------------------
Upon starting a new game, you first need to go to the Factory Mode.
Here, you can name yourself, put down your gender, and then answer a few
questions to get a 'type' for yourself, which does not appear to matter. After,
you can finally build your robot.

Building your Robot
-------------------
When selecting your robot, you pick out several parts. It is important
to note that ONLY the arms can be changed out from what you put in when first
building your robot. To change anything else on the body requires creating an
entirely new robot.
FEET
----
The type of feet determines your matter of movement. Each of the three
categories has several different parts, with a tradeoff between speed and size.
Your size determines the later part types that you can equip - you cannot equip
a 4-star body on a set of 3-star legs (you can equip a 2-star body on the 3-star
legs, but there is no point to doing that as going up to 3-star would not cost
any extra).
FOT-01 to FOT-12 is a regular bipedal set of legs under the Walking Type
(ほこう), which you will use to mostly walk and dash about with. It can jump,
but to float in the air consumes a great deal of energy.
FOT-13 through FOT-21 is the Tread Type (キャ タピラ). In this type,
your robot has tread wheels, which allow it to smoothly move and dash across the
ground, and minimises the knockback you suffer from delivering or taking
attacks, allowing you to close in on an opponent and spam punches, strikes or
shots. Jumping, however, is slow, and any jump will drain lots of energy from
your body.
FOT-22 up to FOT-30 are of the Flight Type (ひこう). With this, you can
stick to the ground, but you can also float above ground and move around with a
great deal of maneuverability, and hovering will barely drain your energy.
It is of the author's opinion that the Tread Type is mostly useless due
to its sluggish jumping and large energy drain when attempting to jump.
BODY
----
The 31 different BOD parts go from 1-star size and defense up to 8-star
size and defense. You cannot select a body of a greater size than your legs. You
may select one of lesser size, but you should really select one of even size as
the amount of defense your body has corresponds with your size - the greater
your body size, the greater your defense.
ARMS
----
Arms determine your attack strength, and correspond to size just like
the Body and Defense did. The arms can be of three types - Punch (パンチ), Gun
(ガン) and Sword (ソード) type. To be honest, though, the author does not know
why the arms have types, as you can seemingly equip any weapon type on any arm
type.
HEAD
----
The different Head parts have separate balances between your robot's
entire Attack, Defense, Speed and Energy Recovery capacities. Some parts have an
extreme tilt towards one category with 8 stars in one and 1 star in the others,
while others have a balance with splits of 2 and 3 stars in each category.
Although the player may be biased towards an extreme, it may be smarter
to go for one that is balanced. This is because you can pay money to upgrade
your robot's stats, but every subsequent upgrade on a category costs you an
exponential amount of money. As such, starting off with an extreme amount of
points in one stats means you pay more money over time as while you do not have
to upgrade one stat more than a few times, the others may hit $25600 when they
might only each have required $12800 for its last level upgrade.
COLOUR
------
This is just an aesthetic thing, so choose whichever colour you prefer
for your 'bot.
After, you will be given the opportunity to name your robot, and asked
if you wish to start over again.
CHANGING OUT ARMS
-----------------
During actual gameplay in a tournament, prior to each match you will
have three options. The first option which your cursor will be put on by default
is to start the match. The second option is to modify the 1P Robot (as for 2P
Robot, the author believes Player 2 cannot take part in the tournament, just in
a 2 Player match). It is only after you actually finish creating your robot and
start battles that you can equip arm parts on.
There are three main Arm-types:
Punch-type parts (パンチ)
Sword-type parts (ソード)
Gun-type parts (ガン)
Each arm weapon has an attack damage stat, which is how much damage it
can cause (and it is possible for lower stat weapons to do absolutely no damage
against some foes), and an Energy stat, the higher star stats consuming more
energy every time you use an attack.
All arm weapons have a price, so the more powerful the arm (or the
lesser the Energy use for the same amount of damage), the more expensive the arm
gets.
Although your arm module when creating a robot has a type associated
with it, this does not seem to have any effect - you can equip a Gun and Sword
weapon on a Punch arm without any problem.
Once you have purchased a weapon, you do not automatically equip it.
While staying on the same factory/shop menu, you must go into a separate option
selection to be able to equip your new weapon.
SHIELD
------
During actual gameplay in a tournament, prior to each match you will
have three options. The first option which your cursor will be put on by default
is to start the match. The second option is to modify the 1P Robot (as for 2P
Robot, the author believes Player 2 cannot take part in the tournament, just in
a 2 Player match). It is only after you actually finish creating your robot and
start battles that you can equip a Shield on.
Each shield has its own 'Cut-Rate' which is basically the amount of
damage the shield can guard against - a weapon with lower stats than your shield
will cause little or no damage. However, higher defense comes with high energy
consumption from your shield every time it intercepts an attack.
OPTIONALS
---------
During actual gameplay in a tournament, prior to each match you will
have three options. The first option which your cursor will be put on by default
is to start the match. The second option is to modify the 1P Robot (as for 2P
Robot, the author believes Player 2 cannot take part in the tournament, just in
a 2 Player match). It is only after you actually finish creating your robot and
start battles that you can equip an Optional part on.
Optionals will give some status a boost, such as Attack, Energy
Recovery, or Speed. Every stat category has two items, the more effective one
being the one that costs more. Finally, there are three optionals that will
greatly boost the power of either Gun, Sword or Punch attacks.

Tournaments
-----------
After you have built your robot, you can enter tournaments. Each
tournament will open up after you win the tournament prior to it. Every
tournament offers prize money for winning it, with the amount varying on which
tournament you won. Every tournament is a 64-robot elimination tournament,
requiring you to win 6 straight matches. In the case of the first three
tournaments, you also have to take on one final robot at the end to clear the
tournament. This is not the case in the Master Class tournament, where you only
need to win the regular 6 elimination matches.

It is important to note a couple of things:
Only by defeating the Master Class tournament can you see the game's
ending.
Building and utilising a new robot wil reset you all the way back to
Beginner Class. You will have to battle your way through every tournament once
more.

Before each match, by selecting the option that has '1P' in it, you can
go to the factory, where you can buy weapons, shield and optional parts, equip
them, and upgrade your stats. Here is how the options work.

Levelling Up
------------
By visiting the third option on the shop/factory screen from a
tournament match, you can upgrade your robot's statistics. Each of the four
stats (Attack, Defense, Speed and (Energy) Recovery) start at Level 0.
To upgrade each stat a level requires $100 to go from Level 0 to Level
1. Every subsequent upgrade to a stat requires double the amount of money from
before - so Level 1 -> 2 requires $200, then $400 to Level 3, etc. The stats you
start out depends with your robot set-up, particularly the head type.

Battling

Every tournament is an elimination tournament of 64 robots, meaning you
have to win 6 matches. In the Beginner, Middle and High-Class tournaments, you
must defeat a reigning champion of sorts to progress and win prize money. The
Master-Class tournament is only 6 matches with no reigning champion to fight.
ビギナークラス - Beginner Class ($200)

All matches are 60 seconds long.

General Strategies
------------------
To win a match, you need to satisfy one of two conditions:
-Destroy the enemy robot by reducing its HP to zero
-When the 60 seconds of the match runs out, have more HP than your foe
As you will see with some of these strategies, waiting out the 60
seconds may be useful. The following are general strategies to take from, and
you may end up combining several of them. However, these should be utilised on a
battle-by-battle difference, as many robots have different parts and A.I.
patterns.

BOX THEM IN
-----------
This works very effectively against robots with tread-type legs, though
the author only saw a couple of them in his playthrough, making them seemingly
rare. Other robots it can be useful against are those with only punch attacks,
or if they have a gun-type weapon but have used up all their energy.
In the 'Box Them In' strategy, you basically attempt to pin your
opponent against one of the invisible walls at either end of the battlefield.
You can either do this by hitting them back, dashing into them and hitting them
back, or retreating to one end of the field and then jumping or floating around
the opposition's back side when it comes over to you.
Once you have the opponent pinned against the wall, you can rapidly tap
whichever button you have a Sword or Punch-type weapon attached to and slash and
punch away at your opponent. Any robot with poor mobility, such as all tread-
types which can be interrupted out of attempted jumps with a single strike, will
have difficulty escaping your grasp.
STAND STILL
-----------
This is a very rarely useful strategy that really only can be used when
your opponent only has punch weapons. Very occasionally, an enemy robot will try
to punch you, but it will never actually move in close enough to make contact
with you. Instead, it will stand close by, but just sufficiently far back that
it does not touch you. If you already have whittled the robot's health down so
it has less HP than you do, you can wait out the battle to win with more HP.
SHOOT - JUMP - MELEE
--------------------
You will often encounter robots whose first reaction to you shooting at
them is to jump. Although this is not so effective against robots with Flight
legs, it is incredibly effective against the Walking-type majority. While in the
air, their ability to move around is reduced, so you can run along the ground to
where the robot will fall down, and get a punch in just as it begins to touch
the floor before it can respond. Back away, shoot at the robot again to trigger
it jumping up again, and repeat your punch or slash. This strategy works best
with a low-energy Gun weapon and higher-attack Punch or Sword weapons.
REDUCE ENEMY ENERGY TO ZERO
---------------------------
This can be a fairly dangerous tactic depending on how powerful your
opponent's Gun-type weapons are, and is especially dangerous to use against a
robot with a Flight-type set of legs. The basic premise is to allow your foe to
spam his Gun-weapon at the start of the battle. You will want to make constant
use of jumping to avoid the ammunition. Your enemy may also jump and fire while
in the air, while you can sit on the ground and avoid gunshots going over your
head.
Some Walking types have A.I. that will, if they get shot at in the air,
make them float to the top of the screen. You can use this to your advantage by
doing just that, shooting at them while they are also jumping, to make them
float and drain lots of energy.
Once your enemy has bled through all its energy, it has at most one
attack left instead of two (and some enemies have two Gun weapons, rendering
them helpless until they can recover enough energy for a single attack). You can
then move in and strike the enemy.
WAITING IT OUT
--------------
Although you can immediately win a match by reducing your opponent to
zero, you can also win if you have more health than your opponent does when the
counter reaches zero. That is easier said than done, but if you are using a
Flight-type robot and have some fairly strong Guns on hand, you can spam them at
your opponent, then fly up to the top of the screen and basically take very
little damage for the rest of the damage so long as your opponent is not a
Flight-type robot as well (Tread and Walking-types require large amounts of
energy to reach the top of the screen, before even attacking you).
