01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to 'Aigiina no Yogen: Balubalouk no Densetsu Yori' for the NES,
released by Vic Tokai in 1986. It was only released in Japan. There are few
Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy!

02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
Story:
``````
Jason, our hero (I thought it was Balubalouk but I think that is the fantasy
country name or something), needs to rescue Princess Laira, the daughter of
Aighina (Aigiina). She knows how to use Aura Stars, what ever that helps to do.
This is about the only thing the game tells you about the backstory.
To advance in the game, one has to defeat enough enemies to uncover a ladder.
Some stages also contain secrets and may have additional methods to continue in
the game. This will all be covered in the walkthrough itself.
High jumping is essential to reach the upper areas, but it also means you will
be suspended in flight for a while longer. In dangerous situations, escaping
may be more difficult.
To grab items that are floating in mid-air, jump and use the 'Get Item' command
while next to it. It is not too easy to do at first but once you got the hang
of it, that should go very smoothly.
One touch kills you, instantly. Death is caused by enemies, flames, lava, and
the enemies' fire.
The main portion of the display (B) is the action area. At the top (A) is a
collection of your inventory. It includes, from left to right, gold, special
attack (blank if you have none, you can only carry one kind at a time), keys,
and "Item". The latter includes stone tablets and scrolls. The magic key to
exit the dungeon is also marked underneath this category, with a special little
icon. There are also two spaces on the left for the Aura Star fragments to make
up a full star, the princess once you have collected here, and on the right are
several slots for the jewelry pieces that can be traded in for the Aura Star
fragments.
Attacking:
``````````
You may have noticed there is no "Attack" command in the controls section. To
defeat enemies you will need to make use of the little stationary rockets that
can be found inside stones. Once you have uncovered one of them, you can later
JUMP while standing on this item which will make a rocket fly off in both
directions, potentially defeating the foes in the way. The reach of these
rockets is only 3 blocks, however, thus use them wisely. These stationary
rocket turrets are placed inside every block that does not have a special item
instead. In other words, around 97% of blocks have these.
Alternative attacks are done by using items you have collected, in particular,
the Magic Ball, Armor, or the Skull.
Items:
``````
Items dropped by enemies (such as keys and money) disappears quickly, hence you
should pick it up soon.
One can only carry one type of a special item at a time. It is also not
possible to pick up another one while the previous special item is still in
use. You will have to wait until the effect is gone to grab the next one.
You can only carry up to six "Items" (scrolls, stone tablets, etc). Items carry
over to the next dungeon.
Jewelry = Used to get the star fragment in the secret rooms, then disappears.
Star Fragment = Parts of the Aura Star, required to complete the game.
Stone Tablet = Tombstones, sell it for money or read them at the Man of Wisdom.
Scroll = Sell it for money.
Golden Statue = Sell it for money.
Key = Opens treasure chests.
Moneybag = Dropped by the enemies, monetary unit in the game used to buy stuff.
Star = 1UP
Magic Key = Key to dungeon exit?
Magic Ball = Special Item, the ball will rise up and spin around, shooting at
everything around the screen.
Skull = Special Item, spins a ball around Jason which stop anything it touches
in a flame. It gives you ample time to set up a turret to kill the
foe(s).
Armor = Temporarily turns you invincible.
Shop:
`````
Several levels have a small side-cave that leads to a guy. There are several
types of shops. One kind lets you sell items such as scrolls, stone plates and
golden statues, another even has the exit key for sale at a decent price (there
is no other way to get it in those dungeons).
The top option is to USE this shop, the second is to return to the game. The
lower two options (Yes/No) are only used if you are actually doing a
transaction here. The game is a little awkward in controls here, as you get all
choices even when they do not apply to the current situation.
Enemies:
````````
Instead of described each single enemy it is probably easier to split them into
types. There are the simple crawlers which are the easier kind, and there are
flying foes. The former will buzz around all over the place, often following to
your position. The flyers tend to stay at the same level and move back and
forth. They will shoot projectiles downwards, but what makes them more tricky
is that the hover above the ground which makes them harder targets for the
turrets. You will have to wait until they set down before letting the rocket
fly, else it is wasted.
The AI tends to be rather clever in that it does not jump up to your position
if you are awaiting them with a loaded turret. Simply facing the other way,
however, can often do the trick to lure them up.
A third kind of enemy is actually an immobile flower. It still kills you, but
there is always a way around it by using clever tactics. Levels they appear
will not have the other two kind of foes, but they may still have fire hazards.
Cheats:
```````
The game is pretty tough, thus these cheats may come in handy to complete it.
The first two are GameGenie codes, the rest are simple hex cheats.
Invincibility SXIPPS
Infinite Lives SLLOPK
[Thanks goes to VisitntX for those two]
Set address 0054 to any number between 0 and 5 for the star fragments. Having
five is the only way to get through the last level, and once you are in it then
you cannot go back out without starting over. In other words, this cheat may be
vital to you not having to replay the game from the beginning.
Address 0055 is your key amount. Since this only refreshes as you leave the
level, you probably want to leave this at around 3 to 5 to never run out.
Set 0057 to you 1 to always have at least one special item. It depends what
you pick; however, thus you can still switch it around. If you are trying to
breeze through the game on this, you will want at least 5 per round just in
case.
Alter address 0058 to change your gold bars, i.e. put 99 to have 99.
0059, 005A, 005B, 005C, 005D are for the jewelry items. 0 means you do not have
it, 1 means you do. If you missed one earlier then you can quickly switch this
one to exchange it for the aura star piece, then switch it off after.
005E is the princess toggle, 1 is if you have already rescued her, 0 if not.
[thanks to ASchultz for helping me out here]

03.) G0300
===============================================================================
As you start you can already unlock some hidden tunnels on the main map. I will
get to those in a later portion of the game. As there is only one place to
visit a this time, enter the dungeon on the right side.
Dungeon 1:
``````````
1) As mentioned in the previous section, each block contains an item. Most of
them are turrets to defeat enemies, thus I will only mention the special
ones you probably should want to pick up. For one, the third floor has a
SKULL in the lone block on the left side. Underneath is a treasure chest
containing a STAR. At ground floor you can find a MAGIC BALL in the single
block on the right side. The shop is at the top right corner.
To advance to the next stage, defeat enough enemies to uncover the ladder
in the middle of the floor.
Since this is the easiest floor to play on, you may consider racking of a
large amount of keys for the later ones. It will make opening treasure
chests a breeze. You can still go back and forth between levels. Enemies,
special items and turrets respawn, but the chest items you have already
collected do not.
2) The second floor has a MAGIC BALL in the left single block, and a STONE
TABLET in the chest on the long central plateau. The shop is at the top.
3) The bottom left corner has a block with ARMOR, very useful to grab this.
Further right is a 2-block gap near the center. Stand on the right side of
the four-block plateau and jump into the air on the left side of the 2-block
plateau. OK, this may sound a little complicated, but there is a floating
MAGIC BALL hidden here. To grab it, jump into the air and use the 'Get Item'
command while flying. The chest in the top right corner contains a MAGIC KEY
which is vital to be picked up, and there is also shop in the top left
corner.
4) There is a RING in the chest in the top left corner. The chest on the right
is a GOLDEN STATUE. You may have noticed all enemies here are stationary. A
bit more strategy is required to get rid of them. You have to plan your
route while opening more paths as you destroy them. There is no shop in this
place, and the ladder is in the bottom right corner.
5) Two chests containing a SCROLL each are to be found here. If you did not
collect enough keys earlier than you may be running low by now. The enemies
are getting a little tougher at this point. Apart from the shop in the top
left corner, there is also a hidden MAGIC BALL in the top right corner where
the ladder will appear. Jump up to the right of the top platform to find it.
SECRET: Bump into the second tile from the bottom right corner a few times
to make another ladder appear in the corner. This will take you to a secret
room. Inside is a dragon you have to high jump over and collect a FRAGMENT.
It also shoots fire so be careful when facing it. Your aim is to grab the
jewelry piece and get back out. The small moving block is a little tough to
get on, you have to jump well around it else you will bump into it from
below.
6) This is the "boss" floor. There is one hidden special item (a
SKULL), at the ground floor, on the left side of the gap in the middle.
This short level also simply requires you to defeat enough enemies, which is
quite easy with the skull you have picked up.
Instead of a ladder, the exit at the top will have two small arrow buttons
to point out that you now free to leave. Simply jump into it like when going
to a shop to do so.
Congratulations on completing your first dungeon. It is not easy, and it only
gets harder from here on out. You will find the door at the north end has
now opened. The old sage will give you a password to continue playing later,
and some advice.
Going west from the first dungeon, there is a tree that stands out as it is
more north than the rest. To unlock the shortcut, press down into the tree line
two steps on the right, which is still one step before the water edge as well.
You will notice the change immediately. This hole will take you up the river.
There is another secret you can find and move on, but we should first complete
the nearby dungeon.
Dungeon 2:
``````````
1) There is a neat MAGIC BALL just below your starting position. This should
help so early on. The chest in the center is a SCROLL. There is also an
ARMOR in a block at the top floor. It is the second block from the right in
the four-block platform slightly northeast of the enemy gateway.
As usual, this a pretty easy level so you may want to stock up on keys. The
exit is in the bottom left corner. The oven-looking thing is the shop.
2) There is only a chest with a SCROLL in the top right corner. In the bottom
left corner, where the ladder will appear, is a hidden MAGIC BALL. Jump up
next to the nearby platform to find it.
3) This is another stationary-enemies level. It is quite easy apart from the
fire that bursts out at the right side. If you go over to unlock the
treasure chest you can get a HARP. The next ladder is at the bottom left
corner.
4) There are two hidden items here. The first (a SKULL) is near the center,
second level, and it appears when you jump up from the ground floor. It will
take some exploring. The other one is at the top floor where there is a
huuuuuuge drop down. You will have to jump up the gap from the right side
on the floor below. The chest in the top right corner has a STAR. A shop can
be found in the bottom right corner.
SECRET: There is a secret area in the top right corner, hit your head into
the brick next to the hidden skull three times and the ladder will appear,
but you need the correct jewelry piece beforehand. Ignore it on your first
playthrough.
5) The chest here contains a SCROLL, Bump into the top right corner brick to
get a MAGIC BALL. The shop is in the bottom right corner, and you actually
need to purchase the MAGIC KEY here (use the top option, then the third
option, it costs 20 gold pieces). The ladder to continue is at the top left.
6) Enemies yet again do not move in this level. The only thing to find is a
scroll inside the chest. No enemies need to be defeated in order to move on.
7) Yet again, another scroll inside a chest, no shop, exit in the bottom right
corner. Moving on...
8) Grab the hidden MAGIC BALL (southeast of the right enemy gateway) and use it
when more enemies have appeared. Getting rid of five guys should make the
exit open up rather quickly.
South of the second dungeon is a small path leading east along the river. Once
you bump into the tree at the end, a small hole will appear. Take this hole
to end up further west. Go south but do not enter this dungeon, it is the final
one and you should avoid it at the moment. Instead, run around southwest of
this location to trigger an earthquake. This will remove the tree at the north
for you to enter that dungeon instead.
Dungeon 3:
``````````
1) There is a SKULL in the brick left of the enemy gateway. The tile in the
bottom right corner contains a MAGIC BALL. Nearby is a blue stone at the
wall, it actually has a hidden ARMOR inside, useful too. There is a stop
near where you started, the ladders are in the top left corner.
SECRET: Once you have the NECKLACE from dungeon 5, bump your head into the
tile in the bottom left corner. Grab the FRAGMENT.
2) There are two chests on this enemy-less floor. There is also a hidden
SKULL on the first long stationary platform. As for the chests, the one in
the bottom right corner contains a STAR, the on higher up the all important
MAGIC KEY.
3) Still no enemies, only some platformer action. A shop is also here.
4) Back to enemies, and hidden stuff. On the second storey is a SKULL in the
second prick from the left, although you will first have to use up the
turret that appears there. The second prick from the bottom right corner
contains a MAGIC BALL. The chest contains a SCROLL.
5) This is just a couple of jumps to the next ladder, the chest only contains
a SCROLL.
6) There are a couple of items hidden here. The small platform near the start
has a MAGIC BALL floating above. After the center part, after the moving
platform, a SKULL is hidden in mid-air. The chest in the center will get
you a STONE TABLET.
7) The chest has a STAR. A brick in the lower center will reveal a SKULL, and
top left one has a MAGIC BALL. There is also a shop.
8) If you drop off the ledge and steer to the left wall, an ARMOR is revealed.
You will have to jump back down from the top and time your command to grab
it.
9) You can get an instrument from the top chest, a SCROLL from the other.
10) The chest here contains a SCROLL. The top right corner's brick will show
a MAGIC BALL when bumped into from below.
11) In this final room there is a secret icon, a SKULL, one space to the
right of the second rightmost platform at the ground floor. The mirrored
side (i.e. left of the second leftmost platform at the ground floor) has
a MAGIC BALL.
Walk slightly northwest of this pyramid to shake the earth as you did
previously. Enter the small door at the south side.
Dungeon 4:
``````````
1) Jump on the right platform and then high up to find a SKULL.
2) The chest here is a SCROLL. Use your platforming skills to advance.
3) The chest here is also a SCROLL. Find a MAGIC BALL in the bottom left corner
by jumping up the gap, and a SKULL is hidden inside a brick on the second
storey, all the way on the right side.
4) Drop down immediately and swerve right at the last platform. If you want the
chest (a STAR) then you have to get around the right side. There is a shop
at the top right. Use it to buy the MAGIC KEY (1st option, then third, costs
30 gold).
5) Get the MAGIC BALL in the bottom left corner, the tile just to the right of
the enemy gate also hides a SKULL.
6) Chest contains a STONE TABLET, moving right along. Stick to the top and then
the bottom for the left part. Else it is tricky.
7) There is a skull in the top rightmost brick. I suggest you simply go for the
secret room as coming back from there will open up the ladder to the eighth
floor as well.
SKULL: Stand on the second brick in the top left corner (the one after the
gap of course) and jump into the ceiling three times. This will open up a
nearby ladder. Inside, avoid the dragon-dinosaur thing as before, grab the
star fragment and leave.
8) The chest in the bottom left corner contains a SCROLL. Jumping high up on
the brick above reveals a SKULL. There is also a MAGIC BALL just to the left
of the enemy gate. Underneath is another box with a STAR.
9) There is a shop here, but apart from that you just have to time your jumps
past the fire to reach the other side.
10) Do NOT get the chest (a JEWELRY piece) on your first time through the
dungeon or else you will get stuck not being able to pick up all the
fragments later on. Grab it once the walkthough gets to it.
11) Both chests contain SCROLLs, ignore them if you have enough but you still
need to find a way to the moving platform to reach the right side.
12) Find a MAGIC BALL slightly right of the center platform on the second
storey.
13) Apart from the shop, there are two hidden items. The tiny block near the
top is your base. Jump right two spaces to find a pile of GOLD bars, then
do the same for the left side to get a MAGIC BALL.
14) Having two balls will make this last area a breeze. Use it once there are
four enemies on screen, then grab the other MAGIC BALL on the right side
to get rid of four/five more, which is already enough to open up the exit.
Outside, walk to the left edge and push UP to reveal a hidden path cutting
through the lake.
From the top left corner of the first dungeon, take a swing towards the river
but do not stop on the way. If done correctly. a shortcut will appear a little
to the northwest. It may take several tries as the position of your line has to
be correct. The shortcut takes you to an isolated part near the river.
Cross over the bridge (it was not there before if you checked the shortcut) to
reach the castle.
Dungeon 5:
``````````
1) Chest has a SCROLL, a SKULL is at the bottom right corner in mid-air, same
position on the left will bag you a MAGIC BALL. This level seems to take a
lot more enemy killing that the previous ones. The ladder to continue is at
the top left.
2) The right brick next to the solid one in the center of the second storey
hides a SKULL.
3) Besides the obvious shop there is also a hidden gold bar at the top of the
left moving block.
4) Not much new here, there is a MAGIC BALL just to the right of the enemy
gate.
5) A chest with a STAR is about everything one can find here.
6) This is a little trickier, but to the chest with the SCROLL it is fairly
easy. Getting over the rest without falling is not so easy though.
7) Back to the enemies, there is a SKULL in the bottom left corner as well as
a MAGIC BALL northeast of the enemy gateway. The chest contains a SCROLL.
8) There is REALLY nothing here...
9) The chest here contains the MAGIC KEY, important!!! There is also a shop.
10) This tiny area makes it easier to slay multiple enemies with your turrets.
There is a SKULL in the bottom left corner if you want one.
11) There is a chest with a STAR in the dead center.
SECRET: Bump your head several times into ceiling just beneath the star
chest to reveal ladder leading down. Avoid the monster, grab the FRAGMENT
and return to the main floor.
12) The right side has a MAGIC BALL in mid-air.
13) It is vital that you pick up the second chest, the upper one, which is a
CROWN. The other one is just a SCROLL.
14) A block near the enemy gate has some gold bars.
15) Nothing but shop.
16) The last floor. As you may notice, the dungeons get longer with each one.
Once you are finally out of the last one, walk north along the tree line to
reveal a hole that takes you back to the west side. Trigger the earthquake and
enter the pyramid.
When revisiting Dungeon 3, grab the fragment in the secret room.
Return to Dungeon 4 and grab the jewelry piece from the chest. On your first
time through that dungeon you were not supposed to take it because the game
no longer lets you trigger the earthquake outside the final dungeon. This is
possible a bug in the game.
Once you have the jewelry, return to Dungeon 2 and grab the final fragment.
It now finally time to enter the last dungeon at the center of the map.
Dungeon 6:
``````````
1) If you bump into the second brick from the right bottom corner you can get
a MAGIC BALL. The ladder to continue is in the top center. Just next to it,
northeast of the enemy gate, is a bunch of gold bars hidden in the block.
2) To move on, kill enough enemies (all right that was obvious) and find the
ladder in the top right corner. The chest there contains a SCROLL.
3) Jump up two storeys and then left. Jump over the stationary enemy but not
before activating a turret way high up. This will get rid of the enemy
next to it and you can then open up a turret at the top floor. This will
rid you of the two foes there and you can then continue right. Should you
want the chests, the top one is a STAR whereas the lower on is a SCROLL.
4) The brick atop the shop is a MAGIC BALL, the third one from the right in the
bottom row is a SKULL. The brick right of the enemy gate also contains gold.
5) Moving right along...
6) To get a MAGIC BALL, go to the first floor and bump into the rightmost red
brick. An armor can be found in the second gap from the left on the lowest
floor. When you eventually defeat enough enemies, the ladder will appear in
the bottom left corner.
7) Bump into the second ceiling stone from the left five times to reveal a
moving platform. Else you cannot progress. You need to have all the
fragments to do this, in case you have not noticed, there is no way to
complete the dungeon without having found them all. With the moving platform
this is rather easy to get through, especially compared to IMPOSSIBLE
without...
8) The chest contains a STONE TABLET, the exit is at the top right corner.
9) The chest contains a SCOLL. If you jump slightly left near the top of the
moving block you can find gold bar suspended in mid-air.
10) At the bottom left corner is a MAGIC BALL, you may want this. The left
chest is a STAR, the right one a SCROLL. The exit is at the top center.
11) On the left side of the third row are two stone blocks. The tile just right
of this will have a MAGIC BALL inside. To leave you have to go somewhere in
the middle. Once you have two scepters you should go for the secret, do not
bother beforehand.
SECRET: Why you are really here in this game - the princess. To reveal the
secret ladder, jump on the top left corner a few times. The ladder on the
left will appear soon enough. Inside is another dragon. Jump over it and
climb up on the left side to meet the princess. If you have done everything
right she will come with you as you leave. This is represented by a big
PRINCESS icon next to the star fragments and the gold bars in your
inventory bar. She only comes along if you got two scepters, so you will
have to go into the dungeon some more before that happens.
12) There is an ARMOR in the top left corner, just one tile right of the ladder
going back up. The bottom row also holds a MAGIC BALL, four tiles from the
left (skipping the gap of course). First visit the shop and sell some of
your stuff (top option to select, then third to say 'Yes'. You need to have
at least two slots free but you may as well sell off everything. The chest
in the center holds a SCEPTRE, it counts as one of your items. This is one
out of two you need to find. Continue down at the bottom right when you are
ready.
13) Cycling through the colors here. The special item here is a SKULL, right of
the left enemy gate, inside a solid rock. Not the one just next to the gate
but instead a few more over. The chest contains a SCROLL, not sure what one
still wants to do with these at that point. The exit is again in the bottom
right corner.
14) Speaking of a SCROLL, here is another one. the rest of the level is not
hard to figure out.
15) What is it with those SCROLLs? Another chest with one right there. There is
also a hidden MAGIC BALL to the right of the shop, high up. The exit is just
to the right of the left enemy gate.
16) The chest here has the second SCEPTER. As soon as you grab it, head back to
[11] and open up the secret area, grab the princess, and return to this
floor.
17) Avoid the final dragon, seriously, the last one you will see. If you visit
the guy in the house he will warp you back out of the game, but then you
have to start over the game from the beginning again I think.
18) Instead of visiting the old hag in the house, stand two tiles away from the
bottom left corner and jump around a few times. The ladder will be
revealed.
19) This is just a sequence. You only get this when you have collected the two
scepters, the star as well as the princess herself.
CONGRATULATIONS
ON YOUR ACHIEVEMENT

===============================================================================
v1.0 Pretty rough but complete version. This was not the easiest game to
get through as there are many deadends and pitfalls. I hope to have
documented this well enough for others to get through easier than I
have done. (8th of January 2009)
