Aa Yakyuu Jinsei Icchokusen is a board game based on the idea of becoming a
major league baseball player. It is very straightforward, with the entire
game focusing on boosting your individual statistics in order to become the
best candidate for a major league contract, which is your ultimate prize. You
start off in childhood, passing through the schools and becoming an adult,
all while raising/lowering your stats with each space you land on. At the end
of each track, you have to complete a mini-game which will affect the next
step. It is a rather short and simple game, is actually fun to play, and does
not really require a lot of Japanese to learn. Check it out sometime!

Gameplay

General Information
-------------------

When you first start the game, you will first be asked how many human players
there are (1-4), or if you want to play against the computer. After that, you
can enter your name (up to four Kana characters). Once you finish that, you
will go to a screen where you can randomly select the three sections of your
character's face. Once the human players have been selected, the game begins.

During the course of the game, there are five statistics that you must be
aware of as you proceed. Depending on the spaces you land on and the outcome
of certain events, these stats may go up or down. Ultimately, they will
determine whether or not you succeed at the end. Those stats are:

   Height (身長)
   Body Weight (体重)
   Physical Strength (体力)
   Popularity (人気)
   Self-Esteem (face icon)

Game Progression
----------------

Naturally, you will begin in a childhood stage. When it is your turn, you can
play a round of RoShamBo (rock-paper-scissors) with the sun to determine how
many spaces (1-6) you can move. You use the Control Pad for this part. The
board is a linear path made of "steps", so if you're lucky, you'll have good
luck at every space you end up on! At the halfway point on the childhood
stage, you will reach the elementary school (小学校). An event at the school
will occur, which can improve your self-esteem if successful.

After you pass elementary school, you will continue up the steps in the same
way you have been. At the top, you will reach a space with a paper on it. You
will have to perform a physical challenge, which consists of running around
the bases of a baseball field in under 20 seconds. To do this you must tap
the A button repeatedly (a turbo button helps a LOT). If you succeed, you'll
get a nice boost in your self-esteem (+3) and go ahead to a good secondary
school (中学校); fail and you go to the run-down one below, losing self-
esteem in the process. Your coach will also have a say, which can affect your
self-esteem as well, based on your performance as a child.

The next board will be your course through secondary school. It is a straight
path in a school field setting. Other than the change of scenery, it's the
same as before. There are a few new spaces added to the board, which may help
or hinder your success. When you make it to the end of the path, you will
have to complete another physical challenge. You have 10 seconds to carry a
tire across the finish line (do this by tapping A repeatedly). Succeed and
you will go on to a good minor league team, complete with a self-esteem boost
and support from your family/coach. Fail and the opposite will occur. Either
way, you will now be a secondary school graduate (高).

You will now go on to the third board, which resembles an actual baseball
diamond. At the start of each turn, your character is at bat, and the number
on the wall you hit determines the number of spaces you move. Most of the
spaces are the same as before, but there are a couple of new ones. You still
need to optimize your stats as you round the bases and ultimately end at home
plate.

When you get to home plate, one of two things can happen. If your stats are
sufficient, you will be drafted to a major league team immediately! If not,
then you move to the pitcher's mound and take a vacation, where you will be
sent to train for the next draft.

When you get drafted, you will be given an initial amount based on your
overall performance up to this point. You will then play a mini-game to
increase your earnings. You get 25 balls, and money bags will continually be
scrolled along behind home plate. If you hit one, you will double the offer
amount, which will continue to rise as you keep hitting the bags. If you miss
one to break the streak, you will go back down to your initial amount. This
is a great way to substantially increase your contract amount, and if you are
playing against some opponents, it can give you the edge to win!

The best way to hit the bags each time is to stay in your original position
and throw as soon as you see a bag appear on the right side of the screen.
Get the timing down and you will be wildly successful! The maximum amount you
can win is a whopping 600 TRILLION YEN (600おく000まんえん)! Imagine getting
a starting contract like that in the real world!

After this mini-game is up, your final contract amount will be tallied, and
your character will be drafted. If you are playing with more than one player,
the person with the highest contract amount at the end wins. The game ends at
that point, rather abruptly I might add.
