BACKGROUND STORY TRANSLATED FROM THE OFFICIAL SITE
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blacker than black - the deep darkness that lies beyond the end of
nothingness. From the centre of this void, the first sense of disaster
stirred. A beating heart without form, and invisible to the eye.
Growing stonger, the energy formed into a wave of darkness, and began
floating through the void. After roaming the emptiness, it arrived at
its destination - Japan.
The year 1786.
That same year would later become synoymous for the great famine of the
Tenmei period. The famine left devastation in its wake, and the starved
lands could see no end to the tradegy. Throughout the land insurrection
and riots were rife. With no end to the troubles in sight, the country
was headed toward disaster. The people were tormented by the
unprecedented calamity, without knowing whether they would live or die
from one day to the next.
The shogunate had done their best to help the situation, but to no avail.
A sole military commander stood before a country buried in heaps of
bodies, and bellowed at the heavens. "Surely someone up there can hear
the conflict in this land? This is all the fault of the Tokugawa clan
fools. I will never forgive them for the unacceptable mistakes they
have made. The time to fight has come. I will become the saviour of
this land, erase the damage done at the hands of the Tokugawa clan, and
wipe those traitors from the face of the earth.".
Declaring his supremacy, these were the words of Kyougoku Nichirinmori
Gaoh.
"Warriors! The warriors whose spirit is loyal to this country! From Ezo
in the north to Ryukyu in the south, I call upon you all to gather before
me and show that very spirit.".
Either enticed by Gaoh's wild ambition, or merely by coincidence, 24
warriors entrusted their spirits to their swords, and devoted themselves
to Bushidou. At the same time, these warriors threw themselves into the
centre of the turmoil.
The conclusion of this struggle will either be decided by Bushidou, or
Shuradou.
