1) Intro
-----------------

Welcome to this first ever FAQ for any Tetris game, and ironically, this
covers a lot of the Tetris games. Now, some people are getting mixed up
about this guide, so let me explain a few things first:

- This supplies FAQs, codes, hints, secrets, and other stuff for most of the
Tetris games that have been made up to this day.

- Believe it or not, I have played all these Tetris games, however, most
of them are only in my memory. The ones I own right now are the original
Tetris (Gameboy, 1987), Tetris DX (Gameboy Color, re-make of original),
and The New Tetris (Nintendo 64, 1999). All the FAQs and what not that I
have written for the other games comes straight from memory.

- Tetrisphere (Nintendo 64, 1997) is included, even though it is
different than the regular Tetris games.

- There are tons of diagrams that I have drawn and used for your benfit..
They're not that pityful but I apologize if you don't understand them.

- This one is the most important.... I am missing three Tetris games,
the three made for the Super NES. They are: Tetris & Dr. Mario, Tetris
2, and Tetris Attack. I haven't played either of these games at all,
so I'm not gonna fill up this FAQ with false info pretending I've
played them. If you have anything on these three, games, please send
it to me and I will credit you and appreciate it dearly! Also, check
the message below from 10/20/99; I'm missing four or five more that I
didn't even know about.

2) Updates

Version 1.3 (1/8/00)
Remember all those messages of info I had in the intro? Well I put
them all into one section which is now #11 - Misc. Info. I als added
some more information to it compliments of DBM11085 (Devin Morgan).

Version 1.2 (1/7/00)
No actual update or changes to the FAQ... I just changed my alias and
e-mail address and replaced it everywhere in this FAQ. Please note that

This is obviously the first version and release of this FAQ. It is
complete in a sense, but will be updated, as I will play the games I own
even more, and try to get my hands on some of the older versions that
I don't own.

This is the original Tetris; the game that started it all.

Q: What's the concept?

A: Puzzle pieces will fall down one at a time, and you will have complete
control over it. You can move it with the D-Pad, or rotate the shape of
it with the A button. It will eventually land and stay in that place, then
the next piece will come down. You are trying to keep the blocks from piling
up and extending out of the area they fall in..... Every time you fill up
a line, that line will dissapear. When a line disappears, you will get a
number put in your line count. See how many points you can get, but more
importantly, how many lines you can make vanish.

Q: How do you earn points?

A: There are a few ways.... One is to press the down button on the D-Pad,
which will make things more difficult but will rack you more points. The
other way is to simply land pieces and make lines vanish....

Tips
==========

The best tip I can give you is to look at the right hand side of the
screen. You'll see a rectangular box (above the line total and score)
that has one of the pieces in it. The piece in that box is the piece
that will be used next. Be sure to take note of what that piece is so
you can plan ahead and hopefully set something up.

Harder Game
At the title screen, hold DOWN and press START. When you start your game
you will see a little heart by the level and the game will run much faster.

Helpful Hint
You know that those blocks and l shapes can be pretty annoying. Well right
from the start make a column on the left hand side for blocks only, then
another column for l shaped only. When you need them use them in the
center but otherwise do as I said.

No Preview
To play a harder game where the next piece is not shown, hit START during
any point of the game. While the game is paused, hit SELECT. When the
game is restored, the box where the next piece is shown will be empty. To
show the pieces again, repeat this process.

Secret Ending
In Tetris mode B there is a special level ending. To earn it score 25 lines
on level 9, with the initial height set to 5. If you're successful you will
be rewarded with new music with Russian dancers and musicians prancing in
front of the title picture.

Secret Rockets
Secret rockets are found in both type games. The type A game will show a
small rocket when you hit 100,000 points and a large rocket when you hit
200,000 points. The type B game shows a space shuttle taking off when you
beat the game at level 9 and height 5.

Q: How is this different from the original Tetris?

A: This is the so called "improved" version of the original, although
I don't find it nearly half as good. It is available now for two players,
and introduces new features like bombs into the game.

Easier Game
At the title screen press and hold UP and START until the title screen
disappears. In easy mode there are fewer bombs and bricks fall slower.

100 (Atlantis World Stage 20), then select Puzzle, then Continue, your

This is a magnificent upgrade to the original Tetris for Gameboy made in
1987. Everything is in color, and there is a changes section a little
bit down the way.

Chalkboard Screen Saver
1. On the first demo press SELECT. A fish
screen saver will apper instead of the demo.
2. Close the screen saver by pressing A.
3. On the next demo press A. A confetti screen
saver will appear. Close the screen saver by
pressing B.
4. On the last demo press B. This code can
take a while.

Continue a One-Player Game
If you ever get tired while playing a game,Press
"START" to pause the game, then switch off the
power. Now when you turn the system on, you will get a "CONTINUE?"
screen, and you will start off from where you left off.

Fish Screen Saver
When the main screen appears, wait until the demo starts then press A to
cancel it. After that the demo will be replaced by some fishies swimming
around on the screen.

Move the Blocks Up
In Tetris DX, there's a bug. When any piece but a straight bar or a block is
falling, hold LEFT (even after it's against the wall keep holding left) and
keep pressing A really fast and the piece will actually start moving back
up! You can do the same thing on the right side wall, but you have to hold
RIGHT and keep pressing B instead. It's strange but it works.

This is a changes section between this new Tetris DX 1998 game for Gameboy
Color and the original Tetris from 1987 for Gameboy.

- Tetris DX is in full color.
- Tetris DX has more game options such as marathon, 40 lines, ultra, and
versus computer, as well as three different music types.
- You see a celebration cinema if you do good in DX.

Level select

Enter "[Saturn][Spaceship][Rocket][Heart][Skull]" as a name. Then,
press L + C-Right + C-Down to enter the special characters in the
name. Any level in any game mode may now be accessed.

Lines mini-game

Enter "LINES" as a name. Now the object of the game is to remove an
area large enough to released the trapped character. Line up three pieces
in a horizontal or vertical line to remove them.

Hidden music

Enter "G[Alien head]MEBOY" as a name. Then, press L + C-Right +
C-Down to enter the special character in the name. Enter the audio
screen to access nine additional songs.

View vortex sequence

Enter "VORTEX" as a name. Then, hold the reset button. Now a
sequence showing all robots being sucked into a vortex will be displayed
after several seconds. Release the reset button to end the display.

View credits

Enter "CREDITS" as a name.

Turbo mode

Select single player mode, enter "2FAST4U" as a name, then highlight
"OK" and press A. When the game begins, the blocks will eventually fall
very quickly.

Turbo CPU mode

Select single player mode, enter "AI2EZ4U" as a name, then highlight
"OK" and press A. When the game begins, the CPU's blocks will fall
very quickly, while your blocks will remain at normal speed.

Music kaleidoscope

Enter the audio options screen and set the song to "Haluci" and the music
mode to "Choose". Then select single player mode, enter "HALUCI" as
a name, then highlight "OK" and press A. A kaleidoscope will now
appear in place of the game. Note: The Nintendo 64 must be reset to
quit this mode.

Well, I guess this FAQ doesn't cover every Tetris game, and I certainly
haven't played every Tetris game. Here are two e-mails sent in to me by

You are missing two that I know of. Tetris Battle Gaiden for Super Famicom
and The Next Tetris for PSX. You can still buy the ladder.
My roomate says the former is the best ever.

I remembered about three more. The two for NES, Nintendos and Tengens. The
ladder still goes for 100$ used. The third is Magical Tetris for N64. Just
to let you know. Also I do not know if you wnat to include Wetris. I heard

Hey, I have a small tidbit of info as far as the NES Tetris games are
concerned. First, you can buy the Tengen version for a quite cheap price at
Funcoland used. I have proof of that, but I have the Nintendo version of the
game.. Also, the 2 versions are the same game! It's just like the Tengen
version of Pac-Man.. same game, but made by 2 different companies. I don't
know why; don't ask me that one! Thanks and I hope this was somewhat
helpful.

I've received some more info from Devin Morgan:

The last message that was posted (read above) was slightly incorrect. The
Tengen Tetris version has 2 different 2-player modes while Nintendo's
version doesn't. In addition to this, in the 2-player mode for Tengen,
clearing a line results in the other player getting it dumped on them.
