Welcome to the Pokemon FAQ for Super Smash Bros. I got the idea to do this
because I saw the 2 Pokemon FAQs done for Super Smash Bros Melee, but none done
for the original. So I started playing the game and I got down some information
and now I have made this guide on the Pokemon. I took a while, but I got it all
down in the end.
Well with that done let's go over on this guides nuts n' bolts. The guide is
very simple to follow; I've tried to make it as easy to read so there is little
frustration. You know when you come across a guide and all the writing looks
the same and it's hard to tell which section is which. Well my guides are set
up so that you can defiantly notice when there is a break in sections. Sub
headings are underlined. Seems simple? Well it is.
Well it seems I have ran of things to say. So I think I'll end the introduction
here. Thank you once again for reading this guide and I hope you enjoy it as
much reading it as I did writing it.

The real purpose of this FAQ is to explain and show all of the information
about the Pokemon in this game. I have thought things out and I have written it
down and I have written my best ideas and strategies and put them in this
guide. Basically the Pokemon are one of the best weapons that you can have for
the game. They can be used as a lifeline or a boost of extra power while you're
fighting. The Pokemon are a great asset in the game, they are probably one of
the best weapons that you can use in a battle.
The Poke Ball is how you get the Pokemon. As you probably already know, when
you see the Poke Ball you should go over to it as quickly as possible and throw
it. Then when it hits the ground a Pokemon will come out. Then it will perform
its special ability and then when it's finished it will leave.
When you throw the Poke ball and the Pokemon is released it cannot hurt you or
you allies. This is because it is your Pokemon and it won't hurt you. So don't
be afraid to throw the Poke Ball in the direction of your ally. This is a good
idea because if you ally if fighting an opponent you can just throw the Poke
ball over there and let the damage increase. This rule will also apply when
your ally throws a Poke Ball, it won't hurt you.
Another thing that you can do is actually hurt your opponent if you throw the
Poke Ball at them. So if they are close you can throw it at them and it will
hurt them. This is a great way to put on that extra slice of damage to your
opponent. If you use the hard throw (pressing R and a direction) you can do a
lot of damage and you could even throw your opponent off of the edge.
The Pokemon themselves don't do anything but their ability. They don't move
unless that is one of their abilities. But even if their attacks don't hit your
opponent, if your opponent touches the Pokemon they may get hurt themselves,
depending on what it is. So if they try and jump it and miss, they will still
get hurt. You can use this technique to your advantage as well. When you summon
a Pokemon you could run over to where it was released and use it as a shield so
you opponent might be stupid enough to try and attack you head on. But remember
if it is a stationary Pokemon (like Charizard) your opponent could still attack
you from a distance with a long-range attack or by throwing something at you.

Now lets get onto the most important part of the guide. Below is a detailed
description on all of the Pokemon that you can release in battle. I have put in
their attacks, a description on what they can do. I will also put in some
strategies on each of the Pokemon that you can use. So read on...
Beedrill
--------
Attack Name: Call for Friends
Damage: 12% hit (18 Beedrills)
How it Works: First off Breedrill will float there and then he will go to the
side of the screen. Soon a battalion of Beedrill will come
charging for the side of the screen and fly past. This is a good
attack.
How to Use: When you send Beedrill he will attack at a certain height,
depending on where you released him. So using him on the bottom
level of a stage will make the army fly at a low altitude. But if
you were to release him on a high platform, the Beedrill will fly
high up. Beedrill works best if you use him on a fairly flat level.
How to Avoid: Above explains on how a Beedrill will attack depending on how he
is released. So all you have to do is use this to your advantage.
If you're a on a stage where there is a lot of different
platforms you can just move to one of those out of the way and
wait for your opponent to follow you or until the Beedrill clear.
Blastoise
---------
Attack Name: Water Blast
Damage: 6% hit with Water Blast (10 blasts) - 26% hit when touched
How it Works: Blastoise will appear and then he will start blasting away in one
direction. Though the water doesn't do much damage, it will still
send your opponent flying. Not to good, but it still useful.
How to Use: Send out this Pokemon near your opponent is a great way to hurt
them. This is also one of the Pokemon that will hurt your opponent
if they touch it. This is a Pokemon that isn't to good on a
platform stage, because it you release it near the edge it will
push itself off, which is quite entertaining to watch.
How to Avoid: This isn't a hard Pokemon to avoid. Just keep away from him.
Blastoise won't move towards you or anything. So just stay away
from him and you will do okay.
Chansey
-------
Attack Name: Egg Throw
Damage: 0%
How it Works: When Chansey appears stay near it because it will give you 3
eggs. Inside each egg is an item, just like a capsule. This
Pokemon is good if you need something quick like a weapon.
Charizard
---------
Attack Name: Flamethrower
Damage: 4% flame hit with Flamethrower (60 flames) - 26% hit when touched
How it Works: Charizard will appear and stand still. He will then begin to turn
left and right and start breathing fire in those directions. He
does this very quickly, it's kinda like he has a fire flower.
This is a good stationary attack.
How to Use: Charizard is best when he has been sent out on a platform or a
small area where there is little escape for the opponent. And this
is a Pokemon that you should stand behind so that you are protected
by a shield of immense fire.
How to Avoid: This isn't a hard Pokemon to avoid. Just keep away from him.
Charizard won't move towards you or anything. So just stay away
from him and you will do okay.
Clefairy
--------
Attack Name: Metronome
Damage: ?
How it Works: Clefairy will do a random attack that another Pokemon in the game
will do. So Clefairy is unpredictable.
Goldeen
-------
Attack Name: Splash
Damage: 0%
How it Works: Goldeen doesn't do anything. This is a dud Pokemon that does no
damage and just flops around just waiting for you to turn it into
sushi.
Hitmonlee
---------
Attack Name: Flying Kick
Damage: 24%
How it Works: Hitmonlee will stand still for a second, he will then fly kick
towards the closest opponent.
How to Use: This is good against a slow opponent. But the problem is that
Hitmonlee isn't hard to dodge. So you will just have to hope that
the attack connects.
How to Avoid: Jumping or running away is a good plan unless he is close to you,
but you can still get away quite quickly.
Koffing
-------
Attack Name: Smog
Damage: 3% hit with cloud (30 clouds)
How it Works: Koffing will begin to float where he was released and then his
smog attack will occupy a small radius of space.
How to Use: The best way to use this is to put him near your opponent. Then
they will get trapped in the cloud and they will start to pick up
some good damage. Or one again, you can use this Pokemon as
protection.
How to Avoid: Not a hard Pokemon to avoid, all you have to do is keep out of
it's way because it doesn't move. It won't be there for too long
so just wait if you have to. If you get trapped, you can easily
get out of its attack.
Meowth
------
Attack Name: Pay Day
Damage: 6% with coin (120 coins)
How it Works: This basically the same as Koffing, only better! He does twice
the damage and 4x the attacking. Meowth will begin to float where
he was released and then his smog attack will occupy a small
radius of space.
Mew
---
Attack Name: ?
Damage: 0%
How it Works: A very rare Pokemon to release. All Mew will do is fly away.
Useless, but still cool to see.
Onix
----
Attack Name: Rock Throw
Damage: 8% hit with a rock (10 rocks) - 21% hit when touched
How it Works: Onix will appear from the Poke ball and then he will fly up above
the screen. Then around the area that he was released; he will
throw boulders down making a rain of rocks.
How to Use: The best way to use him to have Onix in a small area where it is
hard to get away from the falling rock. And because it takes a
little while for the attack to begin you could always hit your
opponent into the way of the attack.
How to Avoid: Well because the attack takes some time to begin, the best thing
to do is just get out of the way of the falling rocks.
Snorlax
-------
Attack Name: Body Slam
Damage: 22% hit
How it Works: Snorlax will appear on the screen and then fly away. Then a few
second later he will be HUGE and he will squash a lot of the area
on screen. One of the best Pokemon.
How to Use: Placing the Pokemon in a crowded area is a great way for him to
squash you opponents. The attack is great but make sure that you
opponents don't try to run away from the attack from above.
How to Avoid: This is a hard Pokemon to avoid. The best thing to do is just
plain run for it. If you have a fast character this will be easy,
otherwise you better just hope you make it out of the way.
Starmie
-------
Attack Name: Swift
Damage: 3% hit with star (20 stars) - 12% hit when touched
How it Works: Starmie will float slowly towards the closest opponent and then
fire its swift attack at them.
How to Use: Throwing the Poke Ball near an opponent that be moving away quick
enough or you are currently fighting is a good way for it to hit
its target.
How to Avoid: This is an easy Pokemon to dodge. It moves slowly when it comes
towards you, you can just jump out of the way. If it's close to
you could jump as well, but it may get you.
