Update History
------------------------

Version 1.0 (October 8, 2001): Everything, and I do mean everything. This
document is already significantly larger than anything else written on Mario
64, so I don't feel especially compelled to come back for seconds. Maybe I'll
spellcheck it.

------------------------
Introduction
------------------------

Yo yo yo, what it is jive turkey! BobDaMunky in da house! Yes, that's right,
I'm back once again for another exciting Walkthrough! This time, yours truly
will be discussing everything you could ever want to know about Mario 64.
Sounds like fun, right? Well, this Walkthrough was a real bitch for me. I
actually had this completed a year ago, but it was accidentally deleted and,
stupid me, I didn't have it backed up. Well, I recently started it all over
again, and I like to think that it's even better than it was a year ago. Of
course, that's not saying that it's GOOD or anything. I wouldn't want you to
get disappointed when you actually read it.

NOTE: To clear up any possible confusion about my screenname, let me just
state that it's [email protected], but don't worry, I'm still going by
BobDaMunky for now, just with a different SN and a different ISP.

------------------------
Story
------------------------

Like I actually need to do this section for a Mario game, right? Well, as
usual, I'm putting in the extra effort for you the reader and piecing
together some made-up version of the story for this game:

One day, Mario, our fat, Italian plumbing little friend, was just sitting
around doing nothing much in particular when a note happened to arrive (how,
we may never know) from Princess Toadstool. The note read, "Dear Mario,
please come to the castle. I've baked a cake for you. Yours Truly, Princess
Toadstool "Peach"." Well, Mario, being the food-addicted lardass that he is,
hopped right into the nearest Warp Pipe and...um...slid(?) his way over to
the Princess's Castle. Of course, all didn't go exactly as planned (would
have made a rather awful game, wouldn't it?), and the Princess was nowhere to
be found. Upon entering the castle, Mario heard an evil voice talkin' all
about how nobody's home and he needs to go away. Well, Mario wasn't going to
have any of THAT crap, now was he? So he found a nearby painting with some
Bob-Ombs on it and jumped in. Once inside, he found out the whole story from
a couple of friendly Pink Bob-Ombs. Apparently, the Princess has been
kidnapped (for the 87th time, for those of you scoring at home) by the
diabolical Bowser, and it's up to you to save her. Also, Bowser has scattered
numerous Power Stars around the castle and in the various paintings, which
you'll need to collect in order to face him. Have fun!

In other words, save the Princess from Bowser...AGAIN!

------------------------
Controls/Basics
------------------------

A Button: Jumps and swims. Can be used with various other buttons to perform
special jumps.

B Button: Punches, kicks, and grabs onto things. It also performs various
jump functions.

C Buttons: Moves the camera into various angles. The C-Left and C-Right
Buttons move the camera around Mario clockwise or counterclockwise. C-Up
brings the camera closer, and pressing it again brings you into a mode where
you can look around (like in Zelda: OOT). Conversely, the C-Down buttons pans
the camera out.

R Button: Brings the camera way up close to Mario while still allowing you to
walk around. Sometimes useful for crossing narrow bridges.

L Button: Umm...nothing? Hmph. Oh well.

Z Button: Crouches if you're standing still, slides if you're running. Also
used for a few jump maneuvers.

Start Button: Pauses the game ya dumbass!

%%%%%%%%%%
Jumping
%%%%%%%%%%

Single Jump: Just press 'A'. This is the standard jump that you'll be using
most of the time.

Double Jump: Another common jump. Just press 'A' to jump, then press 'A'
again as soon as you hit the ground. Mario will jump a little bit higher.

Triple Jump: For this jump, Mario has t be running full speed the entire
time. It's like a double jump, except that you hit 'A' when you hit the
ground the second time. This will cause Mario to jump INCREDIBLY high and do
a triple front flip. He'll also yell something half-retarded, so look out for
that.

Butt Stomp: This jump is required for quite a few Stars in the game. Simply
jump in the air and at any point during your jump, hit 'Z'. Mario will freeze
in midair, do a front flip, and come down on his ass, crushing whatever
happens to wind up underneath him. For good fun, jump off of a really high
cliff (try the mountain in Bob-Omb Battlefield), then hit 'Z' just before you
hit the ground. Presto! No damage done! This technique can be a lifesaver.

Backflip: Fun to look at but almost completely useless, the backflip is
something you won't find yourself employing often. To perform one, hold down
'Z' to crouch, then hit 'A'. Easy as pie....mmmmmm! Pie!

Running Dive: Run full speed in any direction and then hit 'B'. Mario will
more or less do a pratfall in that direct and dive, arms out, straight ahead.

Jumping Dive (a.K.a. The Superman): My personal favorite move in the game,
the Superman (as I call it, named after the biking move) involves running
forward, jumping, and then hitting 'B'. The result is the same as a running
dive except Mario's in midair. My #1 choice for killing enemies and running
down MIPS the Rabbit.

Running Long Jump: Somewhat difficult to pull off for beginners, the long
jump is a skill you'll need to master quickly t get through this game. Run in
the direction you want to jump, then hit 'Z' and 'A' in rapid succession.
Mario will fling himself 10-15 feet through the air. Wow! Look at the fat
Italian go!

Wall Kick: The hardest move in the game to pull off (although it's not that
hard) is the wall kick. To do a wall kick, run at a wall, jump towards it,
and hit 'A' right before you make contact. Mario will launch off the wall and
up a few more feet. String multiple wall kicks together for maximum
efficiency.

Side Jump: This move is just plain useless. I still haven't found a single
situation where you have a reason to use it. If you must know, to perform a
side jump, you must run full speed in one direction and then, all at once,
reverse your direction completely and hit 'A'. Boy, this one is just a waste
of space.

%%%%%%%%%%
Attacks
%%%%%%%%%%

Single Punch: Hit 'B' once. This is enough to kill most lower-level foes like
Goombas.

Double Punch: Hit 'B' twice of course!

Double Punch+Kick: Hit 'B' three times. This is a basic but pretty cool-
looking combo. Way to go Nintendo!

Sliding Kick: Run full speed, then hit 'Z' and 'B' one after the other, like
you would with a long jump. I didn't even discover this move was in the game
until after I beat it, but it's pretty cool.

Jumping Kick: Just jump up and hit 'B' in midair. Mario will bounce off
enemies (and anything else) that he happens to hit.

Sideswipe: Beating out the sliding kick and the side jump, this move takes
the cake for uselessness. I've used it only once to this date, and that was
just to test it. Hold down 'Z' and hit 'B' for this offensive move.

------------------------
Items
------------------------

Items. Yup. Every game has them, and Mario 64 is no exception. There are
quite a few more items in this game than in the previous Mario adventures,
but it's good to see they haven't eliminated much of the old stuff.

Coins - These things are scattered all over the place, and in this game, they
actually serve an important function. In the olden days, getting 100 Coins
meant that you were rewarded with a shiny new 1-Up, but not anymore. Now you
only need to get 50 Coins (and beat the level) for an extra life. You
actually get a Star for picking up 100 of these babies in a level! As an
added little twist, Coins now come in three varieties: Yellows are worth 1,
Reds are worth 2, and Blues are worth 5. There are Eight Red Coins in every
level, and if you get all of them, you'll also receive a Star. How nice.

Power Stars - What!?! No invincibility? I feel violated!! Well, anyway,
instead of the old-school Mario rules where Stars gave you temporary
invincibility, the Power Stars of Mario 64 allow you to progress throughout
the game, unlocking new courses and accessing new missions. Oh well, the fun
invincibility music is still here, thanks to...

Koopa Troopa Shells - Yeah baby! Due to your excessive Koopa-bashing in the
previous Mario games, these little green guys are almost extinct (Red Troopas
were apparently totally wiped out). Oh well, whenever you find one, kill him
and take his Shell for a wild ride. You can kill most enemies, ride over
lava, water, ice, and up hills, and more, all while the classic Mario theme
Ode to Invincibility plays. Aaaaaaah, refreshing.

'!' Boxes - These guys must have replaced '?' boxes as the dominant species
in the Mario world, because the latter is nowhere to be found. Anyway, there
are four varieties of '!' boxes. In addition to the three Cap boxes, there
are plain old-fashioned yellow '!' boxes, which can hold just about anything
you could ever want. Except for ponies. THERE ARE NO PONIES IN THE '!' BOXES!

1-Up Mushrooms - Phew! Good to see they didn't change the coloring system of
the notorious "Green Mushrooms". These guys, as you might have guessed, give
you an extra life. Nothing special about that, now is there?

Cannons - My preferred mode of travel in most of the early stages, cannons
can be opened up by talking to the Pink Bob-Omb Buddies on each stage. Every
level has at least one cannon, and you'll usually need them for at least one
Star on every level. Waa-ha!

Invisible Cap - Found in blue '!' boxes, these will make you temporary
invisible, with the ability to walk through certain walls, sneak up on
enemies, and just screw around in general.

Metal Cap - Found in the green '!' boxes, Metal Caps are, quite frankly, the
shiznit. You become completely invulnerable (except for being crushed,
right?), can easily walk around underwater, and have the ability to massacre
any baddie that gets near you. Good times.

Wing Cap - The most popular Cap in the game, Wing Caps are found in the red
'!' boxes and give Mario the ability to fly. Just do a Triple Jump and you're
off. Not much fun for cruising, since you come down slowly and can never gain
altitude, but serves its purpose well.

Spinning Hearts Of Love - Quite the odd little item here. Instead of just
refilling your life, they give you back energy depending on how fast you run
through. Of course, since they're infinitely reusable, walking will do just
fine.

Purple '!' Switches - These things can be found all over the place, and they
usually fulfill a pretty important function. Just step on one and see what
happens!

Course #1: Bob-Omb Battlefield

///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

****************************************
Star #1: Big Bob-Omb On The Summit
****************************************

For a little information, you can chat with the Pink Bob-Ombs (Bob-Omb
Buddies they're called) at the beginning of the stage. They'll tell you all
about how Bowser stole the Stars and scattered them about the various
Courses. Also, they'll explain that the King Bob-Omb, who is at the top of
the mountain, has himself a Star. Well, let's go do something about that,
shall we? Go straight ahead and cross the bridge. Now hang a hard left and
quickly run by the Chain Chomp. A dangerous bugger he is. Run across the
seesaw bridge and look ahead to your right. You'll see an opening in the gate
up there. Run through the field, avoiding the falling bubbles (yes, bubbles)
and the Bob-Ombs running around, until you're through the gate. Now, you have
two options: One is to SLOWLY climb up the hill straight ahead, and the other
is to make a right and take your chances with the bowling balls. Personally,
I prefer the bowling balls. Avoid the three in the pit, then just work your
way up the spiral path to the top, avoiding more and more balls along the
way. Oh, quick note: If you stand inside the hole where the bowling balls
come out, you will eventually be warped to another hole, near the top of the
mountain. If you don't use the hole, you'll come across the Bob-Omb who is
firing the 'Bubble Cannon'. Nice touch. Either way, when you make it to the
top, you'll be forced to square off with the King Bob-Omb. A simple battle,
all you have to do is run around behind him (backflips do wonder here folks),
and pick him up using the A button, then throw him. Do this three times and
the fight is over. Be warned though: If you throw him off the cliff, it won't
count as a hit, since it's supposedly a violation of the 'Royal Rules'.
Anyway, once he's dead, he'll blow up and hand over your first Star of the
game!

******************************************
Star #2: Footrace With Koopa The Quick
******************************************

Well, it's pretty obvious who to talk to first, huh? Yeah, that's right, the
gigantic Koopa Troopa standing in front of you. His name is Koopa the Quick,
and he's FAST. Well, not really, but he thinks he is. He's so confident, in
fact, that he's challenged Mario to a race to the top of the mountain. Ready,
set, go! This is pretty easy, in fact. KTQ takes a different path than you,
but he'll finish in about a minute and a half. Make good use of the 'cubby
hole' trick on the mountain a talked about earlier and this should be NO
PROBLEM. Touch the flag to finish, and when KTQ FINALLY gets up there, he'll
congratulate you and hand over the Star.

********************************************
Star #3: Shoot To The Island In The Sky
********************************************

YAY! Cannons! Talk to the Pink Bob-Omb standing near the cannon at the
beginning of the level, and he'll open up the almighty cannons for you. There
are four in all on this level, but you'll only need two for the particular
mission. Hop in the cannon right next to the two of you and fire. No, don't
worry about adjusting, just fire. You'll land near the base of the second
cannon, which is embedded into a giant hill of rock. Hop in, and aim downward
a little bit to see the "Island in the Sky". Now, line your crosshairs up
with the part of the island that juts out the farthest and aim straight up.
Now fire. In a really cool-looking bit, you should just barely make it onto
the island. Now, to finish this off, hit you yellow '!' box up here for the
Star we've been searching for.

**************************************
Star #4: Find The Eight Red Coins
**************************************

Well, this one's pretty obvious, huh? In the order that I like to get them:

Red Coin #1: Head straight over the bridge and turn left. Jump on the
elevator thingy and grab this Red Coin being careful not to fall.

Red Coin #2: Now that you're back on land, run through this field to find a
big green hill near the back. Run up it for the Coin.

Red Coin #3: Hop into the cannon in this field and blast to the island in the
sky. It's right above the tree.

Red Coin #4: This one might get you hurt. It's on top of the stake that holds
Chain Chomp's chain. Ouchies!

Red Coin #5: Cross the seesaw bridge and drop into the canyon next to the
gate. It's down here, next to a purple '!' button.

Red Coin #6: On that steep hill at the beginning of the mountain. I would
suggest walking uphill to snag it, but if you're daring (or stupid), you
could always slide down and hope you don't miss.

Red Coin #7: Go back to the seesaw bridge and take a right, into the field
next to it. There, among a bunch of Goombas, is the Coin.

Red Coin #8: Lucky for you, this Coind is only about fifteen feet away from
the last one.

The Star appears inbetween Red Coins 7 and 8. That's why I always get them
last. I know, I know, I'm a genius.

************************************
Star #5: Mario Wings To The Sky
************************************

THEORETICALLY this could be done without the Wing Cap, but I'm not too
interested in trying to find out. If you don't have the Wing Cap, go the
'Castle Secret Stars' Section and get it! Now, where was I? Ah, yes, the
Star. Well, simply work your way up to the Island in the Sky however you'd
like, and then get the Wing Cap from the red '!' block. Now, hop into the
cannon, aim at the dead center of the ring of coins you see, and fire. Now,
this is very important, DON'T PRESS ANYTHING! As long as your Wing Cap
doesn't wear off, you will collect all five coins from the center of the
rings. Each time you do, a number will pop up above Mario's head. When that
number reaches five, the Star will appear in the same field where Star #4
appeared. Go grab it. For a challenge, see if you can collect the Star before
you touch the ground. What fun!

***************************************
Star #6: Behind Chain Chomp's Gate
***************************************

Uh-oh! This one could very easily get you killed if you're not careful. Well,
with that happy though in your mind, head on over to Chain Chomp's area. What
you have to do here is do a butt stomp (A, then Z while in midair) on the
stake that keeps him in place THREE TIMES. Now, I can do this all in one trip
without getting hurt, but I've probably don't it dozens of times. For the
beginner, it might be safer to just run around until he lunges at you, do one
butt stomp, and then retreat. Repeat that process three times and a humorous
little scene will show Chomp destroying the gate behind him and then flying
away. I think it's pretty clear what you have to do from here.

**********************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Bob-Omb Battlefield
**********************************************

Remember in the old Mario games, how every time you got 100 Coins, you earned
an extra life? Well, in this game it's different. Instead of an extra life,
you get a Star (which appears right above your head, so remember to make sure
your 100th coin isn't in the air.), which is even better. Here's a complete
breakdown of the Coins in this level:

-       The five rings of Coins in the sky..................................45
-       Coins gained from running around stumps.............................25
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Bob-Ombs....................................12
-       Coins earned by killing those damned Goombas........................11
-       The ring of Coins in the field near the mountain gate...............8
-       Coins in the wooden blocks near the beginning.......................6
-       Coins under the bridge at the beginning.............................5
-       Coins on the tiny bridge near the top of the mountain...............5
-       Coins near the 'Bubble Cannon'......................................5

Course #2: Whomp's Fortress
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

************************************
Star #1: Chip Off Whomp's Block
************************************

Go forward, jumping over the gaps and the moving wall pieces, to get to safer
ground. Go up a flight of stairs, being careful not to be crushed by the
Thwomps, and turn right. After another set of stairs and a Piranha Plant,
you'll come across an area with a couple of bridges and a very tiny walkway
by the wall. Get through here however you please, then run by the Whomps you
find up here and ride the elevator thingy to the top of the level. Here
you'll fight King Whomp, the boss of this level. To defeat him, simply use
the same strategy you would when dealing with a normal Whomp. Stand in front
of him until he tries to smash you, then RUN. While he's on the ground, jump
on him and do a butt stomp on the big 'X' on his back. Repeat an necessary
for the first Star of this stage.

****************************************
Star #2: To The Top Of The Fortress
****************************************

Hmmm...where do you think we're going this time? No, not Birmingham, Alabama!
Why the hell would anybody want to go there? To the tippy top of this level
is where we will be traveling today. That said, simply travel to the top
again, only to find that King Whomp has been replaced by a large structure
simply known as 'the tower'. Climb the tower, making the semi-difficult jumps
between the in-and-out moving platforms. Oh, and make sure to avoid those
pesky Bullet Bills coming at you what the newly installed surface-to-air
missile launcher. When you finally do reach the top, there will be a shiny
new Star to congratulate you.

**************************************
Star #3: Shoot Into The Wild Blue
**************************************

As you might have guessed, this particular endeavor will involve use of the
Course's cannon. Well, no problem, simply go to the Pink Bob-Omb (just fall
down at the area with the multiple bridges) and talk to him. He'll open the
nearby cannon. Jump in, and look at the platform hanging down. Aim at one of
the pillars just above where the Star is (aim at one of the pillars in the
back, not the front, ya moron!). Fire, and with any luck, you should hit it
and fall down safely. Now it's just a matter of sliding down the pole and
collecting your new Star.

********************************************
Star #4: Red Coins On The Floating Isle
********************************************

Once again, you have been called upon to find the Eight Red Coins that lie
hidden somewhere in this level. Yay. And once again, listed in the order I
like to get them, are their locations:

Red Coin #1: At the very beginning of the level, over one of those evil wall
sections. You know, the ones that try to KILL YOU!

Red Coin #2: On the first flight of stairs, get on the step behind the second
Thwomp, wait until he comes down, then jump on him. The second Red Coin is
now directly above your head.

Red Coin #3: Atop the next flight of stairs is a Piranha Plant. Kill him,
because there's a Red Coin very cleverly hidden behind him.

Red Coin #4: In the area with the two bridges, this one's on the little
walkway up against the wall. Be careful not to disturb the Piranha!

Red Coin #5: Simply ride the spinning bridge to snag this Red Coin. Too easy.
I get this one almost every time I play through this level, even when I'm not
trying to.

Red Coin #6: On the slippery gravel incline underneath the two bridges. This
one can be kind of hard to get from below, so don't screw up and miss it
while you slide down!

Red Coin #7: Go to the top of the level and find a big, upright piece of
wood. Smack it around until it falls, thus forming a bridge. Use it to get to
the 'floating islands', one of which holds Red Coin #7.

Red Coin #8: This one's on another of the 'floating islands', not far from
Red Coin #7.

The Star appears all the way back at the beginning, near the first Piranha
Plant. Boy, that sure is a long way.

****************************************
Star #5: Fall Into The Caged Island
****************************************

This one will either be real easy or real difficult, depending on how good
you are at it. I've seen people miss five, ten, fifteen times in a row, and
people who can routinely get it on their first try (usually take me two or
three). Anyway, climb the tree at the beginning of the stage and an Owl will
pop out. Talk to him, and he'll offer you a ride. Well, do as he says
(remember to hang on!) and you'll shoot up to the top of the level. Now,
steering a little to the right, maneuver yourself so that your shadow is as
directly lined up with the Star, then release. Hopefully, you'll hit it, and
everything will be happy. Otherwise...ouch. Note that Mario moves a little
bit backwards when letting go of the Owl. If you stay on too long, the Owl
will say something about linguini and then drop you himself, so be quick.

*********************************
Star #6: Blast Away The Wall
*********************************

This is quite odd. Make your way to the cannon underneath the bridges and hop
in. Now, look at the spinning bridge. See the two flimsy-looking brick walls
near it? Well, aim yourself for the top corner of the one on the right. If
you manage to hit it, the corner of the wall will actually break off,
revealing a Star! Hmmmm...who thought of THAT? Well, if you're not lucky
enough to somehow grab the Star on that shot, hop back in the cannon and
shoot for the Stars...er, Star. Don't miss, 'cause it'll get you killed.

*******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Whomp's Fortress
*******************************************

This one is almost too easy. I mean, come on, you could damn near get a
hundred just with all the Blue Coins in the level. Oh well, I'm not one to
complain:

-       Blue Coins from that blessed Blue Coin Switch.......................20
-       Coins you earn from killing/jumping on Whomps.......................20
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins on the various floating islands...............................16
-       Blue Coins you earn from killing Piranha Plants.....................15
-       The ring of Coins in the water underneath the bridges...............8
-       The Coins surrounding the first Piranha Plant.......................8
-       Coins on the "Wild Blue" platform...................................8
-       The Coins on the level's first slope................................5
-       The line of Coinson the slope next to the water.....................5
-       The line of Coins leading to the cannon.............................5
-       Coins next to the third Piranha Plant...............................5
-       Coins on the spinning bridge........................................4
-       Coins inside the small wooden block near the first Piranha Plant....3
-       Coins inside the small wooden block near the Blue Coin Switch.......3

Star #1: Plunder In The Sunken Ship
****************************************

Jump right into the water and proceed to swim all the way forward. When you
get to the end, dive down. You'll see a ship, with a great big Eel sticking
out of it. Don't be an idiot, stay away from the Eel. Instead, swim down, and
then back up again. Why? Because now, when you swim back down, that stupid
eel won't be there any more! Enter the sunken ship through the window that
was previously being blocked by the Eel. Now you're in an area filled with
water and four treasure chests. Go grab some air ASAP, unless you really
wanna die. Now, you're going to have to unlock the chests (by touching them)
in the correct order. Hit the right chest and it opens, releasing a bubble of
life-giving air. Get it wrong, and the chest shocks you (that's very
strange). I can't quite explain the order, but since there is air available,
you have little chance of dying if you remember to always keep one eye on
your Life Meter. Anyway, the best way I can explain it is this: Start off by
touching the chest furthest away from the entrance, then work your way around
clockwise (the chest closest to the entrance is third) until all chests have
been opened. Now, quickly RUSH towards the back of this area, because the
ship's rising and all the water is draining. There is a yellow '!' box at the
top of that slippery incline, so if you can swim up there before the water is
gone, it's a big plus. If not, you can try jumping, or just do what I do:
crawl up the incline. No matter how you do it, the end result is always the
same. That '!' box contains a Star!

*******************************************
Star #2: Can The Eel Come Out To Play?
*******************************************

Swim your way back over to the ship. Now I know what you're thinking, "Wait a
second, the Eel was in the ship, but the ship's been raised, so where is he
now? And why do zebras have stripes?" Well, I'll get to the first one in a
second, but zebras' stripes function as a defense mechanism. You see, when
traveling in packs, zebras tend to blend together because of their stripes,
which can really confuse predators, making it look like they're giant zebras!
Well, I hope I thoroughly answered that question. Now, getting back to the
Eel (my God that was retarded), dive down a ways under the boat and you'll
find him in a hole in the wall. Well, wait around for him to come out
(remembering to resurface if your air supply gets low), and he'll have an
interesting item on his tail (can it really be called that?): A STAR! Well,
being VERY careful not to run into him, touch the Star and it will fly away
into the ocean. Swim over to it a be happy, happy, happy.

Zebras. Heh.

****************************************
Star #3: Treasure Of The Ocean Cave
****************************************

Make your way ONCE AGAIN (are we EVER gonna explore the rest of this level?)
to the area with the raised sunken ship (eh?), and ONCE AGAIN dive down. This
time, our goal is a hole in the wall that leads to a magical place of
enchantment...or something. Just find the hole and swim through the little
tunnel to find, ta-da, the Ocean Cave! Ooooh, scary! Yeah, well, trounce all
of the opposition in here, being careful not to get hit by the falling
somethings. At the end is a sign and a platform with four chests. Well,
despite my limited artistic abilities, even I can make a map for this one:

1

2       3

4

Go me! After you open the fourth and final chest, a Star will pop out, and
it's yours for the taking!

******************************************
Star #4: Red Coins On The Ship Afloat
******************************************

This is probably one of the easiest 'Find the Eight Red Coins' levels in the
game. Perhaps that's because half of them are in easy-to-find clams:

Red Coin #1: In a clam underwater near the beginning. Pretty hard to miss if
you're really looking for it.

Red Coin #2: Near Red Coin #1, but a little bit further on. Just swim below
the surface and you should have no trouble spotting this Coin, which is also
in a clam.

Red Coin #3: Underwater, in a clam, near the Pink Bob-Omb.

Red Coin #4: Floating just above that large pole next to the Pink Bob-Omb.
Pardon me for asking, but other than this, what purpose does that pole serve?

Red Coin #5: The last of the clam Coins, this one is in the deep end,
underneath the ship.

Red Coin #6: Use the purple '!' near the Pink Bob-Omb to activate a series of
bridges that lead to the ship. Hurry, they disappear! Anyway, once you're on
there, it's no problem to grab this Coin.

Red Coin #7: Up at the very front of the ship, atop the steep incline. The
rocking boat and Chest of Doom don't make getting up there any easier.
Basically, you have two options: 1) Do a triple jump up there, 2) Do a double
jump, but time it so that you can use the ship's movement in your favor.
Personally, I prefer Method 2.

Red Coin #8: Same thing as Red Coin #7, just a few feet away from it.

Lucky for you, the Star appears right there on the ship. Now go get it!

***************************************
Star #5: Blast To The Stone Pillar
***************************************

This can be done in well under thirty seconds if you're quick about it. Go
jump into the cannon and look at those big pillars coming out of the water
near the ship. Aim yourself so you'll hit the one on the far left. I usually
aim so that only the tippy top of the pillar is visible before I shoot. If
you're lucky enough to make it, mess with the camera angle so that you can
see the ledge with the yellow '!' box behind you. Now jump off the pillar and
onto that. I try to hit the wall above it and fall down. Inside the '!' box
is...you guessed it...former TCU men's football coach Dennis Franchione!

************************************
Star #6: Through The Jet Stream
************************************

Note that you'll need the Metal Cap to complete this mission. Simply travel
back to the familiar territory of the ship area and dive underwater. See the
Star down there that you can't get to because of the (duh!) jet stream? Well,
simply swim back up, find the green '!' box with the Metal Cap inside, and
dive back down. The bubbles should be no problem now, and that Star is yours!

******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Jolly Roger Bay
******************************************

Oooh, this one really sucks! There's only 104 Coins in the entire level,
which means that if you miss just one Blue Coin, you might as well start
over. I always get them first, just in case that happens:

-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch in the Ocean Cave..............30
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins on the temporary bridge to the ship...........................15
-       The ring of Coins at the beginning of the level.....................8
-       The ring of Coins at the entrance to the Ocean Cave.................8
-       The ring of Coins INSIDE the Ocean Cave.............................8
-       The ring of Coins around one of the stone pillars...................8
-       Coins on the piece of debris near the Pink Bob-Omb..................5
-       Coins earned by killing Goombas.....................................3
-       Coins from the yellow '!' box on shore at the beginning.............3

Total:                                                                 104

Course #4: Cool Cool Mountain
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

*******************************
Star #1: Slip Slidin' Away
*******************************

If you read the sign at the beginning of the level, it will inform you that
you should "check the chimney" before doing anything else. Well, don't be a
fool, jump up onto the cottage in front of you and hop on in! You'll find
yourself at the beginning of a rather long ice slide. Well, you know what to
do. Sliding down this thing can be rather heard, because it's slippery, and
there are many sharp turns. Near the end, you will see a line of Coins
running straight into the wall. You can follow them THROUGH the wall for an
extra man and a shortcut to the end. If not, well, it isn't much further
anyway. At the end, you can leave the cottage, and the Star will appear right
outside.

*******************************
Star #2: Li'l Penguin Lost
*******************************

Another easy one. Jump up onto the cottage, but this time, don't go in the
chimney. Instead, use the roof to get up to an even higher part of the
mountain, where you'll find a crying baby penguin. Grab the poor little
bugger and run down the mountain. You'll soon start sliding, so try not to
get hurt. Once you make it to the bottom, you'll have to run across a bridge
full of Snowmen. Just time your movements correctly and you shouldn't have
much of a problem. If you get hit, you can always pick the kid back up again.
On the other side is his/her mother, who thanks you and rewards you with a
Star. Interestingly enough, there is another baby penguin, on top of the
cottage near the Mama Penguin. If you take THAT penguin to her, she'll yell
at you. Hehehe! Good times.

******************************
Star #3: Big Penguin Race
******************************

This one can be kind of tricky if you don't have any strategy. Drop down the
chimney at the beginning once more. However, this time, there will be a
rather large penguin here who wants to race you. Well, let's do that then,
shall we? Here's the trick: Don't go full speed, at least not at the
beginning. If you do that, the penguin will attack you and shove you off
(which is BAD). Even if you go REALLY slow, that darned penguin won't ever
build an insurmountable lead. So travel safely at first, then pick up the
pace right around the time you get to the walls and the shortcut. After you
win, talk to the penguin at the bottom (after he recovers from crashing into
the wall, LoL) and the third Star of this Course is now yours! Oh, and by the
way, don't use the shortcut. The penguin will call you a cheater and refuse
to hand over his Star.

**********************************************
Star #4: Frosty Slide For Eight Red Coins
**********************************************

Why is Star #4 always the 'Red Coins' Star? Anyway, this one is a tad bit
more difficult than the previous ones have been, with many Coins hidden in
hard to reach locations:

Red Coin #1: This is pretty simple, Just climb the tree at the beginning of
the level to reach this Coin.

Red Coin #2: Near the Giant Snowman's head, right up against the mountain in
a corner.

Red Coin #3: From the Snowman's head, hop down to the ski lift. Red Coin #3
is right there.

Red Coin #4: On the broken bridge between the Mama Penguin and the hopping
Snowmen. Don't run off the edge!

Red Coin #5: Another Coin in a tree, eh? This one's near Mama Penguin, and
it's no harder to get than the last one.

Red Coin #6: Behind Mama Penguin, in another corner. This one can be easy to
overlook, but if you know it's there, you should have no problem finding it.

Red Coin #7: Also on a broken bridge. This one is near the Mama Penguin, and
it also serves as a Warp to the beginning of the level.

Red Coin #8: There are two methods for this one: The one I use (more
difficult) is to talk to the Pink Bob-Omb on the floating island (now where
have we heard THAT before?) that the ski lift passes. Getting back to the ski
lift is the tricky part, but once you make it, run on over to the cannon and
hop in. Now look around. See that big sheet of ice/glass near the mountain,
with a yellow '!' box behind it? Yeah, you're gonna want to aim so you hit
the mountain behind it and then slide down into it. Then you can get the Red
Coin (and a 1-Up!). Another method is to jump off to the right when you see
the fence while sliding down the mountain, but that's too easy.

The Star appears on the other side of the broken bridge that Red Coin #6 is
on. You can get there fairly easily from Red Coin #8.

*************************************
Star #5: Snowman's Lost His Head
*************************************

This one took me a long ass time to figure out, I can tell you that much.
However, once you know what to do, it's really quite simple. Jump up on the
cottage and then up to where the lost baby penguin is. Look around and you'll
find the Snowman's body. Talk to it (I don't know how you can talk to
something without ears or a mouth), and it will begin to roll down the
mountain. Well, chase after it and pull ahead. Do your best not to get
squashed while sliding down the mountain, as it can be quite painful (not to
mention screw up your chances of getting the Star). At the bottom, run behind
the Snowman's head and the body should roll right into it. Voila! Perfect
Snowman (almost TOO perfect...)! Talk to him and he'll give you yet another
glorious Star!

**********************************
Star #6: Wall Kicks Will Work
**********************************

Yes, they WILL work, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. There are two
possible ways to get this Star. The quicker (and easier) method is to jump up
to where the Snowman's body used to be. Up here is a Spindrift. Jump on it
(do NOT do a butt stomp) and Mario will helicopter spin up a few feet, then
begin to slowly float down. Well, since the Star is below where you are now,
float away from the mountain, wait until you can see the Star (or the area
where it is) and fly over to it. The other (and CORRECT) way involves,
wouldn't you know, wall kicks. First, find the cannon and climb in. Second,
aim yourself at the tree across the gap and fire. If you land properly, the
Star should be about 50 feet overhead right now. Long jump across the gap and
then do a wall kick against the right wall to get higher up. Run and do a
double jump with a wall kick against the left wall to reach the highest
level. Now just be careful not to fall on your way to pick up the Star!

*********************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Cool Cool Mountain
*********************************************

Boy, it just doesn't get any easier than this. Make sure you get the Coins on
the ice slide first (don't need the Star appearing on there where it'll be
hard to get, now do we?), since there's over seventy there! Then, just go
outside and collect a few more to finish:

-       Coins on the ice slide..............................................77(!)
-       Coins on the slide down the mountain................................20
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Spindrifts..................................15
-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch (only two!)....................10
-       Coins on the path leading to Star #6................................8
-       Coins on the chimney of the cabin...................................5
-       Coins earned from killing Snowmen...................................3

Course #5: Big Boo's Haunt
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

********************************
Star #1: Go On A Ghost Hunt
********************************

For this Star, you're going to have to find and kill all five Ghosts on the
first floor on the haunted house. Start off by going forward and entering
said house, and go through the door on the extreme left (doesn't really
matter what order you take them in, but I'm left-handed, so I always start on
the left). Don't get your ass kicked by the Flying Books! See that blue
picture of Boo? The ghosts are behind there, so grab the Invisible Cap from
the blue '!' box if you have access to them yet, then go kill the two Ghosts.
If not, just wait, facing away from the picture, and they will come out.
Continue on into the next room, the room with the dreaded Mr. I. Ignore the I
and take out the Ghost. Now, back in the main room, enter the door in the
upper right. There are some collapsing bridges in here, as well as the fourth
Ghost! Continue on to the final room, with all the fire and such. Kill the
Ghost in here (he'll say something different, because he's the last one dead)
and head on out into the main room again. The Big Boo will be roaming around
here. He's just like a normal Boo, except bigger. So use the same technique
(looking away until he gets close, then doing a butt stomp) you used to kill
the other five Ghosts around here. After three hits, he'll bite the dust, and
the Star will appear on the second floor. Oh, and a stairway will form so you
can actually GET the Star.

*******************************************
Star #2: Ride Big Boo's Merry Go Round
*******************************************

For this Star, instead of going into the main house again, travel left until
you reach a tiny shack. Go inside, and take the elevator into what resembles
a sewer system below. Walk around the basement, treading water as you go,
until you run into the merry go round. You'll know you're close when you
start hearing that crazy carnival music. Of course, this is certainly no
ordinary merry go round. Oh no, that'd be just WAY too easy, wouldn't it?
Instead, flames shoot out of the walls and Ghosts attack you from all angles.
Yay! Kill all of the Ghosts that come at you, taking special care to avoid
the flames, and Big Boo will come out for another fight. Killing him
shouldn't be that difficult, although the spinning of the merry go round does
add to the difficulty just a little bit. When he dies, he leaves the Star for
you to take.

*****************************************
Star #3: Secret Of The Haunted Books
*****************************************

This mission brings you back inside the main house, this time to the second
floor. Climb the stairs and take the door on the extreme left. You're now in
the library, and Flying Books are going to come at you from every which way.
Just book it (no pun intended...well, maybe) to the end, where you'll
find...a dead end? Oh wait, there are three books sticking out of it, and you
have to hit them in proper order to get the Star. Hit the highest book, then
the lowest, and finally the middle and the bookshelf will move aside. There's
our Star!

**************************************
Star #4: Seek The Eight Red Coins
**************************************

One of the easiest "Eight Red Coins" Stars in the game, I can normally do
this one in about two minutes:

Red Coin #1: Take the room on the far left on the first floor. This Red Coin
is behind the Killer Piano. Try not to get bit!

Red Coin #2: In the other room on the left side of the first floor, atop one
of the bookcases.

Red Coin #3: Same room, different bookcase.

Red Coin #4: In the room on the extreme right of the first floor, it's on one
of those pesky small platforms.

Red Coin #5: In the room just to the left of the stairs on the second floor.
You can't miss it.

Red Coin #6: In the room with the coffins, just to the right of the stairs on
the second floor. This Red Coin is underneath one of the coffins.

Red Coin #7: Same room, different coffin (wait a second, didn't I use that
line already?).

Red Coin #8: In the room on the far right of the second floor, it's on the
red grating somewhere.

The Star appears in an easy-to-find spot on the second floor.

*******************************
Star #5: Big Boo's Balcony
*******************************

This Star can be a REAL bitch to get, especially if you're not a very good
jumper. For starters, enter the big main house, climb the stairs to the
second floor, and enter the room on the far right. If you use C-Up to check
this room out, you'll eventually find the secret platform up at the top.
You'll have to do a wall kick to get there (I suggest double jumping into
it). Go through the door up here, ignoring the other stuff. Now it's time for
your third and final battle with Big Boo. Kill him for the last time, and
get...but WAIT! What's THAT? They're putting the Star WHERE!?! Yes, that's
right, the Star is now officially on the roof. Well, it's going to be really
hard (but, be honest, kinda fun) to reach it all the way up there. Start off
with a double or long jump. That's really all the advice I can give you, the
rest is just instinct.

*******************************************
Star #6: Eye To Eye In The Secret Room
*******************************************

You'll need access to Invisible Caps for this Star. If you lack that, too
bad. Go back to the room on the second floor where you went to get the
previous Star. This time, however, get the Invisible Cap from the blue '!'
box before doing the wall kick up do the secret platform (remember to HURRY).
This time, instead of going through the door, run on through the blue picture
of Big Boo. If you still had anything left of the Invisible Cap, you'll find
yourself face to face (or rather, as the title of this mission would suggest,
eye to eye) with a great big Mr. I. As you would with a regular Mr. I, stand
still until he looks directly at you, and then just run around him a few
times until he starts to spin out of control and die. In his place, he'll
leave a Star.

******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Big Boo's Haunt
******************************************

Probably the easiest "100 Coin" Star in the game, since almost all of the
enemies in this level leave Blue Coins when they die. Hell, I wouldn't be
surprised if you already got it without even trying:

-       Coins earned by killing Ghosts......................................55
-       Blue Coins from that oh-so-lovely Blue Coin Switch..................20
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Flying Books................................15
-       Coins earned by killing Mr. I's.....................................15
-       Coins in the yellow '!' box.........................................10
-       Coins earned by killing Spiders.....................................9
-       Coins inside the two big blocks outside.............................6
-       Coins inside the Crazy Block outside................................3

Course #6: Hazy Maze Cave
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

******************************************
Star #1: Swimming Beast In The Cavern
******************************************

Start off by taking the left pathway and long jumping over the big gap. Go
through the door and cross the Big Brown Pit of Death to the area where the
boulders are coming through. Work your way to their source, then take a right
and enter the door. Take the elevator in here all the way down, then follow
the path that leads to the lake/pond/whatever to meet Dolly, the 'Beast'. To
use her to your advantage, jump onto her back and do a butt stomp. She'll
lower her head, so you should get on it. Now Dolly will travel in the
direction you are facing. The Star is on an island in the center of the
water. Just move Dolly over there and jump off.

*****************************************
Star #2: Elevate For Eight Red Coins
*****************************************

What what WHAT!?! You mean, Star #4 ISN'T the "Red Coin" Star on this course?
CRAZY! Well, anyway, this should prove to be quite difficult, especially if
you happen to fall. I'm not going to use the standard format, since they're
all found in roughly the same place. Getting on with it...This time take the
right path and go through the door. Slide down the inexplicable pole in here
(what is it DOING there?). Turn right and climb up the stairs to reach the
'Work Elevator'. To control this odd device, simply step on the arrow
pointing in the direction you want to go. Sounds easy, right? Well, use this
method to find the first three Red Coins of this level, which are hidden in
large wooden blocks. There is a fourth one on this level that isn't hidden in
a block. Once you have all four Red Coins, work your way back to the platform
near the start with a pole on it (you know the one I'm talking about). Jump
onto it, then get on the checkered elevator. This one's automatic, and you
should have no problem avoiding the obstacles en route to the last four Red
Coins of this level. The Star appears at the bottom of this gigantic room.

****************************************
Star #3: Metal Head Mario Can Move!
****************************************

As is obvious by the title, you're going to need a Metal Cap to accomplish
this task. That said, head on back down the elevator and into the place where
Dolly the Swimming Beast dwells. Now, find the green '!' box at the top of
the path and get the Metal Cap from it. Now haul ass down the path, following
it even underwater. It will lead you right to a purple '!' switch, which
opens a gate nearby. Go over to the door that was once blocked off by the
gate and step in. Here, nothing but a few long jumps away, is our Star.

***************************************
Star #4: Navigating The Toxic Maze
***************************************

I suppose you don't NEED the Metal Cap to get this Star, but you'd be an
idiot to try without it. What'd be the point? Go back to the big room with
the Work Elevator. This time, climb the hill over there and follow the line
of Coins right down the hole. The Hazy Maze is so called because of the
greenish-brown poisonous gas that covers the better part of it. Stay in this
for too long without a Metal Cap and you're done for! Go forward to grab the
Metal Cap from the green '!' box, and then kill the Flying Sniffits (God I
love those guys!). Continue along and take a quick left, moving quickly so
you don't lose your Metal Cap. You'll run into a wall. Move right, searching
the wall for greenish-white vertical stripes as you go. When you finally find
them (quite a ways away), do a double jump to reach the little alcove up
there with a door. Go through the door and follow the path until you find
yourself above the room with the boulders. Use the red grating like monkey
bars (don't slip!) and climb along until you reach the Star. Ta-da!

*****************************************
Star #5: "A-Maze-Ing" Emergency Exit
*****************************************

This starts off pretty much the same as the last Star. Go to the Hazy Maze,
get up against that same far wall, and look for an alcove up high. Only this
time, you want the one WITHOUT the stripes underneath it. Once that's been
done, follow the path, avoiding Bats and the like, to get to an elevator.
Follow it up, and you'll arrive in a room with a yellow '!' box. You get
three guesses as to what's inside. HINT: It's not an mp3 of "Safety Dance" by
Men Without Hats.

*************************************
Star #6: Watch For Falling Rocks
*************************************

Go back once again to the room with the boulders, and go up to the door near
the source of the boulders. But wait, don't go in! Look up. Do you see what I
see? Well, even if you don't use the two walls on both sides of Mario to wall
kick your way up there. On the right platform is a Star. If you happen to
land on the left side, long jump across.

*****************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Hazy Maze Cave
*****************************************

This really isn't as hard as many people make it out to be. I mean, sure, the
level is big and confusing, making this mission rather time consuming, but
there are more than enough Coins to get you to 100 with quite a few to spare
(143 in all, I believe). It's not nearly as dire as some people think it is:

-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch in the Hazy Maze...............35
-       Coins earned by killing Spiders.....................................18
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Bats........................................11
-       Coins earned by killing Mr. I's(*)..................................10
-       Coins earned by killing Sniffits....................................8
-       The ring of Coins next to the elevator..............................8
-       The ring of Coins on the island with Star #1........................8
-       Coins in the first room, on the right...............................5
-       Coins near the source of the giant boulders.........................5
-       The line of Coins near the entrance to the Hazy Maze................5
-       Coins near Star #4..................................................5
-       Coins near Star #5..................................................5

Total:                                                                 143

(*) - Since you're traveling on the Work Elevator when these guys are around,
I actually don't think it's possible to kill the two Mr. I's in this
     Course.

Course #7: Lethal Lava Land
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

********************************
Star #1: Boil The Big Bully
********************************

Work your way through the path, making sure not to fall in the lava (that
hurts quite badly). When you get to the bridge, wait until it lowers, then
run across. Jump over the pit with the Mr. I in it, then jump across the
rising and sinking platform. Now just continue along the path, jumping when
necessary and dodging all the necessary obstacles, until you meet up with the
Big Bully. He looks like a Bob-Omb with feet and horns. Rather comical if you
ask me. You'll have to punch him into the lava to defeat him. The easiest way
is to stand in the corner and wait for him to charge, then just jump over him
or move out of the way, and punch him in the back. When he dies, a bridge
will form, leading to the first Star on a high platform. Be careful though,
because the bridge collapses (it REALLY sucks to die because you fell off the
bridge).

*******************************
Star #2: Bully The Bullies
*******************************

Go back to the island where you fought the Big Bully, but this time, go to
the far end of it, and wait for the moving platform to arrive. It will take
you across the lava to another island. This one has three especially tough
Bullies. Do your best to kill them (The trick is getting the first one off.
After that it's easy.), and another Big Bully will come down from the sky.
This guy is much faster and more aggressive than the last one, bust just use
the same strategy and you can use his quickness against him. He'll leave you
yet another Star.

******************************************
Star #3: 8 Coin Puzzle With 15 Pieces
******************************************

This is almost too easy (hell, most of the Stars on this course are). Simply
walk on over to the fifteen-piece puzzle of Bowser and collect the Eight Red
Coins. What? That's it? I suppose you COULD fall down into the lava, but you
could easily pick up one Red Coin to replenish your Life Meter. Easy, easy,
easy. The Star appears on a solid piece right next to the puzzle.

*********************************
Star #4: Red Hot Log Rolling
*********************************

All right, head on over to the moving bridge, but instead of crossing it,
head north on the platforms in the lava. You'll find a moving platform. Hop
on it, and it'll take you to a great big log. Jump on it, and start running.
It'll move in the opposite direction as you, obviously. You'll eventually
arrive at the Star. There ya go! Of course, for a much easier (and quicker)
time, you could use this level's Wing Cap. There are two ways to get it: 1)
Simply turn around at the start of the level. See that island? Long jump to
it and grab the Wing Cap; 2) Drop down into the cage with Mr. I, being
careful not to get hit. You'll soon warp to the island. Now just fly over to
the Star, going around the cage of course.

******************************************
Star #5: Hot Foot It Into The Volcano
******************************************

The volcano is just north of the moving bridge, surrounding by a circular
spinning platform. You've no doubt seen it by now, yes? Well, when it stops
shooting fireballs out at you, hop on in. Yeah, that's right, just drop down
the center. Now you're inside, and can't get back out. If you die in here,
and restart on the same Star, you'll reappear in here. Creepy, huh? Head
right, and avoid the many obstacles the game throws at you (Bullies, wall
pushy things, and wall fally things, as well as too many gaps) to reach the
top of the path, where you'll find what we're looking for, a Star!

******************************************
Star #6: Elevator Tour Of The Volcano
******************************************
Simply go back into the volcano and head in the opposite direction (that
would be left, genius). This time, an elevtor will do all the work for you.
You just have to avoid falling. At the top are some poles. Jump to the first
one before the elevator crashes (Which looks really cool. Ride it down once
and you'll see what I mean). Now just hop from pole to pole to reach the
Star. This can be kind of tricky, and it REALLY sucks if you fall down on the
last one.

*******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Lethal Lava Land
*******************************************

This level's "100 Coins" Star can be easy if you follow these two tips: 1)
Always choose Star 5 or 6, so the Koopa Troopa Shell is in the yellow '!' box
at the beginning, and 2) Get all the Coins outside first, before venturing
into the volcano. That said, on with the show:

-       Coins inside the volcano............................................24
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Bullies.....................................10
-       Coins earned by killing Mr. I's(*)..................................10
-       Coins in the first area with Bullies................................8
-       Coins in the area with the 3 Bullies from Star #2...................8
-       The ring of Coins around one of the Mr. I's.........................8
-       Coins on the platform near the first Big Bully......................5
-       Coins underneath the moving bridge..................................5
-       Coins on the platform near the volcano..............................5
-       Coins on the hill out in the middle of nowhere......................5
-       Coins inside the Crazy Block........................................5
-       Coins on the platform near the beginning............................5
-       Coins that pop out when the Bowser puzzle is solved.................5
-       Coins on the rising and falling platform............................4
-       Coins on the ramp near the volcano..................................4
-       Coins on the spinning platform surrounding the volcano..............3
-       Coins on the crescent-shaped island.................................3

Total:                                                                 143

(*) - The Mr. I in the pit is probably impossible to kill, seeing as how
there's no room to run around him.

///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

*******************************************
Star #1: In The Talons Of The Big Bird
*******************************************

Go forward, jumping over the Cactus and through the stone building. Now go
across the bridge with the Tox-Box and you'll wind up near a small oasis.
Look up in the sky and you'll spot Klepto the Vulture. And, unless you're
totally blind, you'll also spot the great big shiny Star he has in his
talons. See that pillar that he's circling? Well, despite its steep angle,
you can run right up it. Do so, then time your jump so that you can grab the
Star from that bastard Klepto.

**************************************
Star #2: Shining Atop The Pyramid
**************************************

If you have access to the Wing Cap, this mission can be very easy. If not,
it's gonna be hard. The Star is in a little alcove near the tippy top of the
pyramid. If you can, just grab the Wing Cap near the beginning of the stage
(on top of the stone structure, you'll have to bounce up there) and go fly
over to the Star. If not, you'll have to travel all the way around the
pyramid and up the path around it. Watch out for Shy Guys, they shoot
fireballs!

****************************************
Star #3: Inside The Ancient Pyramid
****************************************

Work your way to the other side of the pyramid, take the ramp onto it, and
drop in through the little hole. Now, all you have to do is take the path
around the outside of the pyramid to the top, where the Star is waiting. It's
really quite easy, just as long as you avoid the great big Thwomps in here.
Major ouchies.

********************************************
Star #4: Stand Tall On The Four Pillars
********************************************

Well, the title of this mission should give you a pretty good idea as to what
you're supposed to be doing. As you should already know, there are four red
and orange colored pillars around the pyramid that you can run up. Well,
simply visit them one by one, stopping for a few seconds on the top. There is
a rather difficult pillar surrounded by quicksand that you might just want to
fly to instead. After you have "stood tall" on all four pillars, the top of
the pyramid will pop off (how odd), leaving a rather large hole. Fly/run over
there and drop down through the hole. Now, instead of the normal area, you'll
ride an elevator down to fight the dreaded Eyerok. It's a pair of stone hands
with one eye in the palm of each. Just jump or run away from the clap and
punch attacks, then run forward and punch the eyes whenever they're open.
Three shots to each eye finishes the Eyerok off for good.

*********************************************
Star #5: Free Flying For Eight Red Coins
*********************************************

Well, it appears they've completely abandoned the philosophy of putting the
"Eight Red Coins" Star in the fourth slot. This one is fairly easy if you're
a good flier. Otherwise, you may end up spending quite some time on this one:

Red Coin #1: Just head completely backwards from the starting point. There it
is (be careful, that quicksand gets closer and closer).

Red Coin #2: Underneath the stone building, inside a large wooden block.

Red Coin #3: Somewhere on the twisting bridge with the Tox-Box. You can
easily long jump to it from a part of the bridge near the beginning. Going
around is just a waste.

Red Coin #4: Underwater at the tiny oasis just near the end of the Tox-Box's
bridge.

Red Coins #5-8: In the air, one on each side of the big pyramid. Either open
up the cannon, get the Wing Cap, and blast off, or get up on top of the stone
building, grab THAT Wing Cap, and fly away.

The Star will appear on top of the stone building. How nice.

********************************
Red Coin #6: Pyramid Puzzle
********************************

This one can be rather tricky if you aren't the kind of cheater who reads
other people's walkthroughs to find things out. First, get into the pyramid,
then climb all the way up to the top near where Star #3 is. Don't get it
obviously. Rather, look over the edge and check out the platform down there.
Jump down to it and collect the Yellow Coin to get a Happy Number (yay!).
Look over the edge to find another platform with another Yellow Coin on it.
Number #2 appears. Now look down over THAT platform to find ANOTHER one. Now
jump down into the moving sand and collect the last two Numbers (and, yes,
you will get more Coins). The Star will pop out after you get the last one.
Well, don't just stand there, go get it!

*********************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Shifting Sand Land
*********************************************

Another easy (albeit time-consuming) "100 Coins" Star. Just remember to clean
up on the outside before going into the pyramid, since you can't leave:

-       Coins earned by killing Cactuses....................................20
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch in the pyramid.................15
-       Coins in the pyramid not deserving of individual classification.....13
-       Coins earned by killing Goombas.....................................12
-       Coins in the yellow '!' box near Star #2............................10
-       Coins inside the two Crazy Boxes in this level......................10
-       Coins floating below the overhead grating in the pyramid............8
-       Coins on the path around the pyramid on the outside.................5
-       Coins at the oasis..................................................5
-       Coins on the OTHER grating in the pyramid...........................5
-       The Happy Number Coins inside the pyramid...........................5
-       The Coin atop each pillar on the outside............................4
-       Coins earned by killing Shy Guys....................................4
-       Coins earned by killing Bob-Ombs....................................2

Course #9: Dire Dire Docks
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

********************************
Star #1: Board Bowser's Sub
********************************

This one's about as easy as it gets. First, dive all the way down, and enter
the hole in the wall. Now, swim through the tunnel (pausing for air in the
middle) and come up on the other side. See that submarine there? That's our
target. Around the perimeter of this area is a walkway. Get up on it and run
around until you find a purple '!' switch. When you hit it, a staircase of
wooden blocks will form, leading to the sub, where you'll find the Star.

***********************************
Star #2: Chests In The Current
***********************************

A quick but difficult Star, this one is. Dive straight down and you'll see a
whirlpool. Stay away from it, because it will instantly kill you if it
manages to pull you in. Now, look at the four chests scattered about on the
sea floor. If you haven't already figured it out, you're going to have to
open them IN THE CORRECT ORDER. The order is as follows: 1st chest is right
beside a clam; 2nd is near the whirlpool, but not the one right next to it;
3rd is a ways away from the whirlpool; the 4th and final chest is located
right up next to the whirlpool. Better not miss it! Once you 've opened the
last chest, turn around and swim viciously to avoid being sucked in by the
whirlpool. The Star appears nearby.

****************************************
Star #3: Pole Jumping For Red Coins
****************************************

It is worth noting that you must have beaten Bowser in the Fire Sea before
attempting to get this Star. Otherwise, you will have no poles for the
jumping! With that out of the way, swim once again through the underground
tunnel and into the area with the submarine. Use the purple '!' switch again,
this time climbing a different set of wooden blocks. You'll reach a platform
suspended high in the air. There are several of them up here, with poles used
as transportation between them. You'll have to grab the Red Coins while on
said pole. Oh, and if you fall down near the end, there is a very good chance
that you may be sucked out of the level. Hope you know what you're doing! The
Star appears on one of the first platforms.

************************************
Star #4: Through The Jet Stream
************************************

Go back for a third time to the big happy Submarine Land place. This time,
run over to where the purple '!' switch is but DON'T touch it. Instead, pick
up a Metal Cap from the green '!' box and jump down. See the jet stream with
the bubbles and the magical rings coming out of it? That's where you're gonna
want to go. Walk over the grating and let five rings surround you (doesn't
always work, since I think you're supposed to NOT have the Metal Cap when
getting the rings, but this is quicker). The Star will appear right above
your head. Just jump.

************************************
Star #5: The Manta Ray's Reward
************************************

Check out the new addition to the course! It's a great big Manta Ray in the
first part of the level. And hey, what's that? He's got magical rings coming
out of his arse! Sweet! Well, you know what to do: Swim behind him (stay a
good ways back or you won't collect any rings) and swim through five
consecutive rings. Yes, that's five CONSECUTIVE rings, not just five rings.
Messing up once starts you ALL OVER AGAIN. Of course, resurfacing for air is
not a problem, since each ring gives you energy. The Star will appear nearby
once you pull this off.

******************************
Star #6: Collect The Caps
******************************

Christ the level is easy! Is there nothing DIFFICULT in here? Anyway, swim
back to the room with Le Sub for the umpteenth time. This time, swim around
for awhile underwater until you find a cage with a Star inside. Can you see
what's coming? No, not another Rocky film, we need Caps! Get the nearby Metal
and Invisible Caps and then walk on down into the cage. Viola (yes, I know)!
Of course, you COULD just get the Invisible Cap and swim down there, but this
looks cooler.

******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Dire Dire Docks
******************************************

I just HAD to ask, didn't I? Dire Dire Docks' "100 Coin" Star is without a
doubt the HARDEST of its type in this game. Miss a few Coins here and there
and you're ruined! Well, without further adieu:

-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch................................30
-       Coins inside the underwater tunnel..................................24
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Random Coins lying about in the first area..........................13

Course #10: Snowman's Land
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

********************************
Star #1: Snowman's Big Head
********************************

Oy. I really don't like this one. Just when you're getting near the Star, the
slightest misstep can force you to start all over. Anyway, take the path to
the other side of the mountain and look for the hole in the wall with the
pieces of ice coming out of it. You need to get onto the ledge above that
hole. Do a triple jump (or a double jump, but you'll just BARELY make it)
while avoiding the ice blocks to get up there. SLOWLY climb up the path,
being oh-so careful not to fall, until you get to a bridge of ice with a
penguin on it. The Snowman will talk to you, and then try to blow you off.
You have to use the penguin as a shield from his breath to make it to the
other side. Memorize the penguin's movements and give it your best shot. If
you fall, you can always try again. Follow the path the rest of the way up
(it's a bitch falling off here) to retrieve the Star.

**********************************
Star #2: Chill With The Bully
**********************************

You remember the Ice Bully you passed on the way to Star #1, all alone on a
big sheet of ice above a freezing cold lake (well, it really can't be THAT
cold, unless it's salt water). Well, you know what you must do. After you've
put an end to him, collect the Star he leaves behind, a la Lethal Lava Land.

********************************
Star #3: In The Deep Freeze
********************************

This is about the easiest Star in the game. Well, maybe not quite
(*COUGH*Star#3BobOmbBattlefield*COUGH*). Turn around at the beginning of the
stage and find a big, see-through ice structure with a Star inside. You have
to jump into it from under. From there, use the R button to get an up close
look and work your way to the Star. C-Up can be very useful here.

******************************************
Star #4: Whirl From The Freezing Pond
******************************************

There are two ways to get this Star. If you're conventional, go back to the
area with the triangular blocks of ice shooting out of the hole in the wall.
See those Spindrifts over there in the water? Jump on top of one and float
over the wall behind them. Try not to miss, as the water drains your health.
Now just bust the Star out of one of the yellow '!' boxes back here.
Personally, however, I prefer using the cannon.

*************************************************
Star #5: Shell Shreddin' For Eight Red Coins
*************************************************

That sure is one LONG title, eh? Not a very long mission though. To find the
Koopa Troopa Shell, go back to the place where you picked up Star #4, but hit
the other yellow '!' box to find a Koopa Troopa Shell. The first four Red
Coins are up here, and the other four are on the pond under the Ice Bully's
platform. Easy, easy, easy. Now it's just a matter of picking up the Star,
which appears nearby.

****************************
Star #6: Into The Igloo
****************************

There is an igloo hidden somewhere in this level. It's actually quite tiny,
and it's located atop a steep hill under the Snowman's Head, surrounded by a
picket fence. You COULD climb all the way up to get above it, and then drop
down, but that's too difficult. You COULD go all the way over to get the
Koopa Troopa Shell, then ride it up the hill, but that takes too long. Me, I
will once again be using the cannon to get up there. Now just crawl inside
here. Oh my God, it's ginormous in here! Locate the Star (it's up rather
high, at the beginning of the igloo. To get to it, work your way to the back,
grab the Invisible Cap from the blue '!' box, and run back to the front. Now
go get your Star.

*****************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Snowman's Land
*****************************************

For starters, go on a Spindrift killing spree. There's fourteen in this
level. FOURTEEN! Damn, and each gives three Coins. After that, pick up a few
more (maybe kill some Wallets of Death), then go into the igloo. Easy, easy,
like cream cheese on a hot dog:

-       Coins earned by killing Spindrifts..................................42
-       Coins inside the igloo..............................................26
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Snowmen.....................................12
-       Coins earned by killing Wallets of Death............................10
-       The Line of Coins on the slope below the igloo......................8
-       Coins on the path up the great big Snowman..........................5
-       Coins earned by killing Goombas.....................................3
-       Coins earned by killing a solitary Shy Guy..........................2
-       Coins near Star #3..................................................2

***********************************
Star #1: Shocking Arrow Lifts!
***********************************

As with most Stars in this level, you can get this one by simply backflipping
into the painting so that the water is at its highest, then using the highest
Crystal to lower it a wee bit. From there, you can simply go swim to the
Star. But if you want to do things correctly, here's what you do: Jump into
the painting, it doesn't really matter where. First, raise the water level
high enough so that you can get onto the wooden bridge thing in the middle of
the water. Get on it, and go to the end of it, with a purple '!' switch.
Activate it, and cross the temporary bridge it makes. Now, hit the crystal up
here and look at those arrow lifts! Use them to get to the other side, where
the Star is waiting inside a yellow '!' box.

*****************************
Star #2: Top O' The Town
*****************************

Another one where you can simply backflip into the painting and then swim to
the Star. Actually, since the object here is simply to make it to the top of
the level, that's my recommendation. If not, it's a very simple matter to
work your way to the top. Watch out for that Chuckya!

*********************************************
Star #3: Secrets In The Shallows And Sky
*********************************************

There are five Secret Numbers hidden throughout this level. Secrets #1 and 2
are obtained by pushing those large metallic blocks into the walls. The
remaining three Numbers are all inside yellow '!' boxes. One is above the
second metal block, another is on top of the large cage near the top of the
level, and the last is on a pillar nearby. Once you've collected all five
Secrets, the Star will appear near the bottom of the level.

******************************************
Star #4: Express Elevator - Hurry Up!
******************************************

Jump into the painting at its lowest, or just swim down to the bottom and hit
the Crystal all the way at the bottom to lower the water. Punch the large
wooden block over here next to the cage, revealing a hole. Now use the Heave-
Hos to work your way up to the top of the big cage, making sure not to raise
the water level on your way. Once you're at the top, you can see the Star
inside the cage. Hit the purple '!' switch and climb the new staircase to get
on top of the cage. Walk onto the elevator so it starts going down, then jump
off, all the way down to the bottom (do a Butt Stomp right before hitting).
Then, quickly get inside the cage and jump onto the elevator when it gets
down there. Eureka! It will take you back to the Star!

********************************************
Star #5: Go To Town For Eight Red Coins
********************************************

As the title suggests, you're going to have to travel downtown for this Star.
To get to the "town", either backflip into the painting or hit the highest
Crystal to get the water up to its highest level. Now swim over to the fence
in the corner and jump over. Another method would be to use the cannon, but
that takes far too much effort for me. Take a deep breath, then swim through
the long tunnel to town and grab some air up top. Swim to the bottom (or use
the Metal Cap) and hit the Crystal down there to give Mario some breathing
room. Now just run through town collecting the Red Coins. Most are located on
rooftop or somewhere else up high, some in boxes. Have fun! Oh, and the Star
appears inside the little church-like area.

*****************************************
Star #6: Quick Race Through Downtown
*****************************************

As you did in the previous Star, go back downtown and drain the water to the
very bottom. This time, however, look for a cage with a Star inside located
in a corner. Memorize that location, then go find the blue '!' box with an
Invisible Cap inside. Collect the Cap, then sprint back to the cage and get
inside. Once the Cap wears off, you can wall kick off of the cage and grab
the Star. Ta-da!

****************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Wet-Dry World
****************************************

This shouldn't trouble you very much at all. Just make sure to get the Blue
Coins from the Blue Coin Switch, that's all:

-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch................................30
-       Coins in various places inside "the town"...........................23
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins earned by killing Skimmers....................................12
-       Coins inside the large wooden blocks at the bottom..................12
-       Yellow '!' box on the cage above Star #4............................10
-       Yellow '!' box near a sign..........................................10
-       Yellow '!' box at the bottom of the first area......................10
-       Ring of Coins around a pillar near a Heave-Ho.......................8
-       Coins earned by killing the levels lone Chuckya.....................5
-       Coins on the bridge in the first area...............................5
-       Coins near the sign at the top of the first area....................5

********************************
Star #1: Scale The Mountain
********************************

Ah yes, it's the "Get to the Top of the Level" Star that EVERY level seems to
have. There are several different paths to take to reach the Star and, well,
I'm lazy. I will say that you should climb the vines when you get to them,
and to watch out for the bowling balls. Waiting for you at the peak is yet
another glorious Star. Yippie ki-yay!

****************************************
Star #2: Mystery Of The Monkey Cage
****************************************

Work your way back up the mountain to where you foun the previous Star. This
time, instead of a Star, you'll find a monkey. Unlike the other monkey, this
little guy will try to run away from you. Well, just run him down and grab
him with B. In exchange for his freedom, the monkey will open up the cage for
you (you DID notice the cage, right?). Out pops the Star, which is now yours.

***************************************
Star #3: Scary 'Shrooms, Red Coins
***************************************

Everybody I know hates this Star, and I don't know why. Sure, the jumping can
be kind of difficult, but once you've mastered that, it's quick and easy. To
nab the first four Red Coins, walk on over to the group of mushrooms (growing
out of nothing, it appears), and you'll see, in addition to a yellow '!' box,
the Red Coins. Carefully jump from 'shroom to 'shroom until you've gotten all
of them (you might want to pick up the 1-Up while you're at it). Now, to
complete the mission, go over to the vine-covered wall with the moles and
climb up it. You'll find the rest of the Red Coins scattered about here. The
Star appears on yet another mushroom, this one nearby. Just do a long jump to
reach it.

*************************************
Star #4: Mysterious Mountainside
*************************************

This one can be rather tricky the first few times, but don't worry, once
you've completed it once, it should be no problem to get this Star again and
again. Head up to the area where you have to long jump across the gap by the
waterfall. Do that, and then slowly walk along the mountain path, paying
close attention to the wall. Eventually, you'll see a discolored section that
shimmers slightly when you walk up to it (just like a painting). Well, don't
just stand there, jump into it! In here is a slide, kind of lke the
Princess's "Secret" Slide, but much tougher. This slide has no sides at all,
as well as many different paths, most of which lead to dead ends. Good luck!
Once you reach the end, drop down the hole in the ground and you'll appear in
a little alcove with a Star.

***********************************************
Star #5: Breathtaking View From The Bridge
***********************************************

Go all the way back to the top of the mountain. Well, ALMOST to the top.
Instead, stop when you're on the little stone bridge surrounding the
waterfall. Hey, look what's BEHIND the waterfall! It's a Star!! Well, we
can't let that just go to waste, now can we? Of course not. Unfortunately,
you can't just walk over and grab the Star, since there's nothing but air
between the two of you. The easier way to get this Star is to backtrack and
hit the purple '!' switch, which creates a wooden bridge to the Star. The
quicker method, however, is to just jump, double jump, or long jump to the
Star and hope for the best. That's my way!

******************************************
Star #6: Blast To The Lonely Mushroom
******************************************

There are two very different approaches on how to get this Star, as well as
two different viewpoints on which method is easier. For your sake, I shall
list both and let you decide (!COUGH!number2!COUGH!):

Method #1) Probably the more popular (and longer) of the two methods, this
one involves lots of jumping skills. Walk over to the area with the psychotic
monkey and the giant log. As you can see, the Star is off in the distance a
little bit. Get on the big log, and either roll it (run backwards) towards
the mushroom with the Star on it, or simply jump on top of the Shy Guy and
helicopter-spin your way over there.

Method #2) Stop your bitchin' about how hard it looks and use the cannon to
blast over there. The Pink Bob-Omb is inbetween two platforms right after the
area with the Moles. The cannon is, annoyingly enough, located in a hard-to-
reach area. Well, that shouldn't discourage you. Get over there however you
think you can and jump in. Now it's just a matter of lining your shot up
right, getting the correct arc, and pulling the trigger. Easy, easy, like
Sunday morning!

*********************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Tall Tall Mountain
*********************************************

This can be the easiest "100 Coin" Star in the entire game if you do it
right. Just make sure to visit the mysterious mountainside race area once or
twice before picking up a lot of Coins on the outside. The last thing you

Course #13: Tiny-Huge Island
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

***************************************
Star #1: Pluck The Piranha Flowers
***************************************

Enter this world through the tiny painting, because you'll need to be big for
this Star. Jump to the platform across the water, avoid the Fire-Spitting
Black Ball Of Fury, and hop over to the other platform. See the pipe over
here? Slide on down into it, and you'll pop out in the same location...but
SMALLER! Oh, and when you try to walk around, giant, fire-breathing Piranha
Plants will pop out and attempt to kill you. Make sure not to run over the
edge while you're punching them out. After they're all dead (five in total),
run over and pick up the Star that magically pops out of the ground.

****************************************
Star #2: Tip Top Of The Huge Island
****************************************

Obviously, this Star is at the very top of the level. I certainly don't need
to give you full directions, do I? Anyway, just enter the level as small
Mario in a big world. Now walk through the hole in the wall nearby and make
your way to the top of the island. Once you get there, climb up the stairs,
walk across the tiny bridge, and hit the yellow '!' box to find the Star.

******************************************
Star #3: Rematch With Koopa The Quick
******************************************

Once again, enter the world as small Mario. Go through the hole and follow
the path to the mountains until you get to the area where the bowling balls
are coming out of a giant hole in the mountain. Nearby, surrounded by a few
Goombas, is Koopa The Quick. He's got some new shoes, which apparently make
him quick a bit quicker. Oh, and he wants to race you again. Well, sounds
like fun, right? You'll have to travel backwards in the level this time. Do
long jumps at every available opportunity (whenever the wind isn't blowing)
and you shouldn't have TOO MUCH trouble beating him. When you finally do,
your reward is a Star.

*************************************
Star #4: Five Itty Bitty Secrets
*************************************

As there were is Wet-Dry World, there are five "secrets" to be uncovered here
on Tiny Huge Island. You're SUPPOSED to be small Mario to collect these, but
a few of them can be gotten as big Mario. They are as follows: 1) Go through
the hole in the wall at the beginning, then find another little hole in the
wall on the beach. 2) Inside the cannon. Lucky for you, the Pink Bob-Omb is
standing right there. 3) Inside (yes, inside) the hole where the bowling
balls come out. Be careful! 4) Inside the pool of water at the top of the
mountain. 5) On the teensy-weensy little bridge above the beach at the
beginning, near the entrance to the cave. I prefer using the Troopa shell as
big Mario to get up there. The Star will appear on a floating island (another
one?) near the beginning. To get there, go back to the pipe near where you
fought the Piranha Plants for Star #1 and become small Mario. Now, drop down
to the purple '!' switch below and cross the temporary bridge to reach the
floating island and, of course, the Star.

*********************************
Star #5: Wiggler's Red Coins
*********************************

Notice how the Red Coins have begun to appear more often in clusters rather
than scattered about the level? I kind of miss the hunt myself. Anyway,
getting on with the Walkthrough...There are two ways to get inside the lower
level of Wiggler's Cavern, which is where all the Red Coins are: 1) You can
use the shell-riding technique described earlier in Star #4 to reach the tiny
bridge above the beach, or 2) You can go activate the cannon, jump inside,
and fire to a nearby platform. Either way, you eventually end up inside
Wiggler's Cavern, just underneath where Wiggler himself actually is. The
Eight Red Coins are placed at strategic locations around the cavern for
maximum annoyance. Have fun! Once you get all eight, the Star appears near
the bottom of the cavern (well, it's one of the lowest platforms anyway!).

*********************************
Star #6: Make Wiggler Squirm
*********************************

This one's kind of fun. For starters, jump into the tiny painting so that
you'll enter as big Mario. Now take the short trip back up to the top of the
mountain and step into the little puddle at the top. Do a butt stomp and all
the water will drain out, leaving a tiny hole. Well, big Mario obviously
can't fit in there, so take advantage of the nearby drain pipe and come back
as small Mario. Drop down through the hole and you'll find yourself in the
upper area of Wiggler's Cavern, face to face with Wiggler himself. He's
pissed because of the flooding you just caused (oops!), and now he wants to
fight. This fight is as easy as 1, 2, 3. No, really, just bop that sucka in
the head three times and he'll hand over the Star. Woohoo!!

*******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Tiny Huge Island
*******************************************

Oh my God, this is so EASY! There's no definitive count on this, but from
what I gather, there are about 190 Coins in all in this level (Much thanks to
Coffee on this one. I think if I'd have spent any more time on this, my head
would have exploded!). Just remember that as small Mario, Goombas give Blue
Coins, and as big Mario, they only give Coins if you jump on them:

Course #14: Tick Tock Clock
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

********************************
Star #1: Roll Into The Cage
********************************

For this Star, it would be very helpful to jump in when the minute hands
points to twelve, since you won't be wanting any gear movement this time
around. Once that's accomplished, simply follow the path to the left of the
screen until you run into the Star inside the cage. Seem almost too easy?
Well, it would have been much harder had the gears been moving.

***************************************
Star #2: The Pit And The Pendulums
***************************************

Once again, you'll want to enter with the minute hand at twelve so as to stop
the movement of the gears in the level. That being said, follow the same path
as before, only this time, when you get to the Star, jump over the cage and
keep going. Climb the pole surrounded by Ampz, run around the Heave-Ho, and
look to your left to spot a triangular platform (it WOULD be spinning,
but...). Do a long jump to reach it, then simply look around and you'll spot
the Star. Grab it and get out of there.

************************
Star #3: Get A Hand
************************

This is perhaps the SHORTEST name of any Star in this game! Anyway, you'll
have to have the gears in the level moving to do this properly. Enter with
the minute hand at the 3 for the slowest moving obstacles. Take the same path
you did as when you went to Star #2, but this time you'll be looking for a
gigantic clock hand spanning half the length of a large chasm. When you find
it, wait for the hand to spin around to where you're standing and hop on. Now
simply wait for the hand to take you to the other side, then jump off and
grab the Star. Alternatively, you could enter the level wth the gears
completely stopped, enter the "cage" holding the first Star, and drop down to
this Star.

*********************************
Star #4: Stomp On The Thwomp
*********************************

Make sure you enter the level with all the gears moving - you'll be needing
them! Anyway, take the standard path, but instead of getting off at the
normal spot, just keep working your way upwards through the level. Follow the
path, making your way through numerous obstacles, until you arrive at a
moving platform that takes you to a Thwomp. Hop on the Thwomp with a double
ump and, at the pinnacle of his (its?) rise, do another double jump for the
Star. Easy, huh?

****************************************
Star #5: Timed Jumps On Moving Bars
****************************************

If you can make it to the bars with the gears stopped, it's possible to get
this Star without anything moving. However, that requires lots of skill and
lots of creativity. Lacking both of these, I normally enter with the minute
hand on the three. Anyway, take the path that you should be quite used to by
now until you get to the pole with the Amp. From here, get off the top and
then ride up the elevator. Do a couple of difficult (we,, for me at least)
jumps to get to an area with some odd rectangles poking in and out of the
wall. Time your jumps well (as the title would suggest), and if you make it
to the top, a Star awaits you as your prize.

*************************************
Star #6: Stop Time For Red Coins
*************************************

The title, as well as almost EVERYBODY else, advises you to stop the clock
before attempting this Star. I however, would have you enter with the minute
hand at the 3, since I can get the Red Coins faster if there's a little
movement going on. Head right at the start, instead of left, and you'll
quickly find all Eight Red Coins. Collecting them, now that's another matter.
You'll have to make use of the spinning (or not) seesaw thingies to reach
them. I suggest long jumping from the starting platform to reach the two on
top, and working your way up from the bottom for the other six. When you've
got them all, the Star appears below.

******************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Tick Tock Clock
******************************************

This is definitely one of the hardest "Get 100 Coins" Stars in the entire
game. There are plenty of Coins in the level, but many are in hard to reach
places. Also, you'll probably miss quite a few of the coins inside the yellow
'!' boxes (And there are LOTS of 'em!). Oh, and make sure to get all the Blue
Coins:

-       The five yellow '!' boxes that hold 10 Coins........................50
-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coins Switch...............................35
-       The six yellow '!' boxes the hold 3 Coins...........................18
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins near the pole with the Amp....................................5
-       Coins earned by killing Bob-Ombs....................................2
-       The yellow '!' box that holds 2 Coins...............................2

Course #15: Rainbow Ride
*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*
///////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

******************************************
Star #1: Cruiser Crossing The Rainbow
******************************************

Start off by hopping on the magic carpet. Ride it around until you get to a
spinning platform, which you should jump on. Walk around up here until you
find two more magic carpets. For now, use the one on the left, for it leads
to the cruiser. Along the way, you'll have plenty of obstacles to deal with,
but I'm sure that you can handle that. Once you finally get to the cruiser,
it's a piece of cake from there. The Star is at the other end.

**************************************
Star #2: The Big House In The Sky
**************************************

Go back to the "fork in the road", so to speak, where you have to chose from
two carpets. This time, however, pick the one on the left. This path, like
the other one, is littered with obstacles, so stay on guard. Eventually,
you'll arrive at the "big house in the sky". There are some flames in here,
and if you get hit, you'll almost definitely fall off the carpet, so watch
out! If you manage to survive, you'll be rewarded at the top with a Star
inside a yellow '!' box.

*************************************
Star #3: Coins Amassed In A Maze
*************************************

Travel once more to the spinning platform near the beginning of the level.
This time, completely ignore the two magic carpets and instead take the path
straight ahead that leads to a gigantic maze with Red Coins inside. To get
the Eight Red Coins in here, you'll have to use a wide variety of jumps,
although the backflip can come in mighty handy if you use it right. The Star
appears at the bottom of the maze when you're done.

************************************
Star #4: Swingin' In The Breeze
************************************

Well slap me around and call me Susan, you don't need to ride any magic
carpets this time! Instead, turn around 180 degrees from the start and look
for a purplish pole off in the distance. See it? Good, now long jump over to
it. If you don't screw up completely, you should wind up clinging to the
pole, which leads down to a floating platform. Traverse the numerous obstacle
you come across and avoid the Shy Guy. Eventually you'll come to a fork in
the road. Take the brown path (hey, is that prison lingo?) on the left and
you'll arrive at a large, gondola-type platform. From here, you can jump to
yet another platform, this one containing a Star.

******************************
Star #5: Tricky Triangles
******************************

Go back to the fork in the road from the previous Star. This time, go - you
guessed it - right. Here are some pyramids just floating in the air (and
really, what in this level ISN'T?). What you're going to have to do is this:
Hit the nearby purple '!' switch. This will cause the pyramids to turn
upside-down. Jump from one to the other until you reach the Star. Of course,
the switch doesn't last very long, so you'll have to book it to make it to
the Star.

****************************************
Star #6: Somewhere Over The Rainbow
****************************************

Finally, some difficulty! This Star involves use of the cannon, which is
located on the cruiser. Problem is, the Pink Bob-Omb is nowhere near there.
Where is he, you ask? Well, in case you didn't spot him earlier, he's at the
tippy-top of the maze with the Red Coins. Work your way over there and use
the C-Up button to look around and find him. To get to him, you'll have to
repeatedly wall kick off the walls of a tiny tunnel leading up to him (can
tunnels go upwards?). Once you get there, go through the standard procedure
to get the cannon open. As I already mentioned, the cannon is on the cruiser,
so get your ass over there (easier said than done, right?). Once you're
there, hop inside the cannon and aim just above the rainbow ring. You'll
(hopefully) hit a pole and grab onto it. Below, as you see, is a tiny island
with a Chuckya. This is why we don't shoot straight THROUGH the rainbow, as
it could lead to your death. Wait for the Chuckya to get out of position then
drop down and grab the Star inside the yellow '!' box.

***************************************
Star #7: 100 Coins In Rainbow Ride
***************************************

Depending on how many of the Blue Coins you manage to get, collecting 100
coins can be anywhere from very easy to very hard. Just use your wall kicks
properly and you'll do fine:

-       Blue Coins from the Blue Coin Switch................................30
-       The Eight Red Coins.................................................16
-       Coins from the rings on the spinning island.........................16
-       Coins in and around the "Big House In The Sky"......................15
-       Coins earned by killing Lakitus.....................................10
-       The ring of coins near the beginning................................8
-       Coins on the cruiser................................................8
-       Coins earned by killing that blasted Chuckya (why bother?) .........5
-       Coins near Star #4..................................................5
-       Coins near Star #5..................................................5
-       Coins on the way to the "Big House In The Sky"......................5
-       Coins near the level's only Shy Guy.................................5
-       Coins above the swinging platform...................................5
-       Coins earned by killing Bob-Ombs....................................4
-       Coins on the falling wooden platforms...............................4
-       Coins earned by killing the only Shy Guy............................2
-       Coins on the path taken by the second magic carpet..................2
-       Coins earned by killing the only Goomba (how'd it get up here?).....1

Total:                                                                 146

***********************************************
Star #1: Eight Red Coins In The Dark World
***********************************************

The Dark World is the name of the first Bowser level, in the hallway with the
painting. As the title suggests, you need to get all Eight Red Coins for this
Star. Their locations are as follows:

Red Coin #1: From the start, walk forward a bit and you'll come across a
flamethrowing device with a purple '!' switch nearby. Hit the switch, then go
BACKWARDS until you get to the beginning of the level. As you can see, a
bridge has formed at the near end of the screen. Walk across it to collect
the first Red Coin.

Red Coin #2: If you didn't get it the last time (I normally don't), this Red
Coin is in the path of the fire spat by that twisted machine. Simply wait for
the blaze to die down and go get it.

Red Coin #3: On the bluish crystalline path with lots of Ampz. This Red Coin
is near one of the large crystals sticking out of the ground. Watch out for
the Amp!

Red Coin #4: In the area with the two yellow bridges that move in and out of
the wall. It's located near the platform in the middle, floating above the
second bridge.

Red Coin #5: This one's on one of those square platforms that circle around
each other. Just stand near the edge and let it take you around and around.
You'll run right into the Coin.

Red Coin #6: Cut off of the main path and cross the wooden bridge. Here
you'll find an island with a couple of Goombas, a few coins in a yellow '!'
box, and a Red Coin.

Red Coin #7: Beside the two teeter-totter platforms, in a tiny alcove. The
best way to reach it is to drop down from above, but I prefer walking there
on the tiny ledge.

Red Coin #8: Get onto the part of the area with the Warp Pipe to Bowser
that's closest to the teeter-totters. Now, set up the camera angle properly
and long jump to the platform ABOVE the second teeter-totter. One more ujmp
takes you to the Platform with the Red Coin.

When you're done, the Star will appear right next to the Warp Pipe.

*********************************************
Star #2: Eight Red Coins In The Fire Sea
*********************************************

The Fire Sea is the name of the second Bowser level, in the basement. As with
the last Star you need to collect all Eight Red Coins in the level. Have fun:

Red Coin #1: Right after the level's first set of sinking platforms is a
section of grating. There is a Red Coin here, floating above a hole.

Red Coin #2: On the platforms that wobble from side to side, you'll find this
Red Coin.

Red Coin #3: Inside the crazy, multicolored room (the one that you climb the
pole up into). This Coin is in the back corner.

Red Coin #4: Near Red Coin #3 is an elevator that leads up. Step on it, then
quickly step off. Underneath is what we're searching for.

Red Coin #5: Before the area with the overhead grating, climb up the steep
hill, do battle with a Bully, and snag the Red Coin.

Red Coin #6: Get onto one of the platforms that rise and fall. You can see
the shadow of this Coin on one of them, but it's quite high. Wait until the
platform is at its peak, then perform a double jump. Voila!

Red Coin #7: In the area with the last group of sinking platforms. This one
is VERY close to the fire, so watch out!

Red Coin #8: Right before the end, this Coin is above a pole that bobs up and
down.

Once you've retrieved all Eight Red Coins, the Star appears atop a large
stone platform. Use the long jump to make it there.

****************************************
Star #3: Eight Red Coins In The Sky
****************************************

The Sky is, say it with me now, the name of the third and final Bowser stage.
It also happens to be the final stage of the game. Once again, it's time to
get the Eight Red Coins:

Red Coin #1: Near the beginning is a large, moveable cube. Take it, and push
it all the way back to the beginning. Then, simply hop up on top of it and
jump up to grab the Red Coin.

Red Coin #2: A little bit farther along in the level, you'll find this Coin
being guarded by a Piranha Plant.

Red Coin #3: Near the end of the unstable bridge, you can drop to the area
below, where you'll find a path of coins. Follow them to reach the Red Coin.

Red Coin #4: After a bit of running around you'll find a steep slope with a
purple '!' switch nearby. Hit the switch to turn the sloped area into some
nice stairs. Hurry up to the top, where you'll find a Red Coin.

Red Coin #5: While riding on the moving arrow platform, you'll have to jump
over several obstacles in the sky. On one of them is this Red Coin.

Red Coin #6: It's on the spinning platform with the Fire-Shooting Black Ball
Of Death.

Red Coin #7: This Coin is at the top of a pole near the end of the level. It
doesn't get any easier than that.

Red Coin #8: God, this one took me FOREVER to find. Well, obviously not
FOREVER, but you know what I mean (Or do you?). Anyway, walk all the way up
to Bowser's pipe and then TURN AROUND. The final Red Coin is underneath the
staircase that leads to the Warp Pipe.

The Star appears right next to Bowser's pipe, just a few feet away.

***************************************************
Star #4: Eight red Coins In The Wing Cap Stage
***************************************************

At any time after you have collected ten Stars, walk into the main area of
the castle and stand on the funny-looking icon in the center of the floor.
There should be a beam of light shining down at this point. Using C-Up, look
for the source of the light, and you'll be magically transported to this
level. Once you're inside, fly straight across the level to find the first
two Red Coins. Now just go counterclockwise to collect the other Coins. If
you miss any, just forget it and start over. The Star appears on the tower
with the big Red Switch.

********************************************************
Star #5: Eight Red Coins In The Invisible Cap Stage
********************************************************

To find this level, travel down into the basement of the castle and look for
a door without a Star on it. On the other side, you'll find four pillars
standing in a pool of water. The nearby sign says, "It is decreed that one
shall pound the pillars." Now you know what you need to do. Perform a butt
stomp on each of the four pillars to drain out the water. Leave the castle
through the metal door at the bottom of the room, and then look around for a
hole in the ground. This leads to the Invisible Cap Stage. Once inside, you
need to grab all Eight Red Coins for the Star. The first four are on the
slope at the beginning. This will take you a few tries, but once you memorize
their locations, it should be a snap. Just remember to slide down SLOWLY. The
rest of the level is completely linear, but there are some difficult jumps on
revolving platforms. You'll run across the remaining Red Coins along the way.
They're fairly easy to get. The Star appears at the end of the level. I think
you need the Invisible Cap on to get to it.

****************************************************
Star #6: Eight Red Coins In The Metal Cap Stage
****************************************************

Unlike the other two Cap Stages, this one is actually hidden INSIDE another
level. Enter the Hazy Maze Cave and take the path to Dolly The Sea Monster's
lair. Get on and ride her over to the side of the lake where you'll find an
unmarked door. Run inside and jump into the pool of liquid metal (the same
stuff that marks the entrance to the Hazy Maze Cave itself). Once inside,
you'll see that there are Shy Guys everywhere. Not to worry though, since the
Metal Cap makes you invincible. This area is quite tiny, and the Red Coins
aren't hidden at all. The first four can be found by jumping from island to
island, and the other four are underwater. Just take care not to be swept
away by the current, as it'll take you back outside the castle. When the
eighth Red Coin is retrieved, the Star appears underwater.

***********************************
Star #7: A Free Star From Toad
***********************************

What's that? Free?? Yes, you heard right, a 100% FREE Star, straight from the
kind, loving hands of Toadstool. Find the room containing the entrance to the
Hazy Maze Cavern and drop down to the area beside it. Upon turning around,
you'll find Toad. If you talk to him, he'll say something to the extent of
"Look what I found!" and then hand over the Star. Yay!

********************************************
Star #8: ANOTHER Free Star From Toad???
********************************************

Well, okay. Standing by the stairs that lead to the third floor, not doing
much of anything, is our good friend Toad. Talk to him and, once again, he'll
give you a Star, on the house. Gee...thanks. I didn't get you anything.

***************************************************
Star #9: Okay Now, This Is Getting Ridiculous!
***************************************************

For the third and final time, here comes Toad with a Power Star to save the
day. This time you'll find him by the entrance to Tick Tock Clock. Christ,
where does he find these things! Seriously, he's about 3 foot 2, not very
powerful, and...he's a mushroom for cryin' out loud! Oh well, free Stars!

************************************************
Star #10: Princess Toadstool's Secret Slide
************************************************

To find the Not-So-Secret Slide of Princess Toadstool, go up the stairs on
the first floor and enter the room on the left (this requires at least one
Star). Inside are three pictures of the Princess Toadstool herself. Jump into
the one on the right and you'll be transported to a "hidden" level. The
entire thing consists of a Blue Coin Switch and a slide. Simply ride the
slide to the end (it's fairly easy) and hit the yellow '!' box to claim your
prize.

*****************************************
Star #11: The Secret Slide Revisited
*****************************************

For this Star all you have to do is beat the Princess's slide with a time of
less than 21.00 seconds. This is pretty simple once you learn the turns of
the slide, so I won't bother saying too much. Just remember to stay as far
inside on the turns as you possibly can and you shouldn't have a problem.

*****************************************************
Star #12: Eight Red Coins In The Secret Aquarium
*****************************************************

Located in the same room as Jolly Roger Bay, the Secret Aquarium is home to
another of the Castle's Secret Stars. Upon entering the room, you'll notice
that there are two holes in the wall, one on either side. The hole on the
left contains a mere 1-Up, but the hole on the right leads to the Secret
Aquarium. Once inside the Secret Aquarium, you have no means of coming up for
air. Lucky for you, the coins in here will be more than sufficient to keep
you alive. Just swim around and collect the Red Coins, then grab the Star
that appears at the bottom.

**************************************
Star #13: MIPS The Basement Bunny
**************************************

I'm sure that MIPS stands for something, but I'm far too lazy to try and find
out. Anyway, the short of the matter is this: After you've collected 30
Stars, a rabbit will appear in the basement of the castle. Your job is to
catch him, but that's quite hard. You'll have to either corner him or catch
him when he's round a corner. I suggest using a superman (jumping slide
attack), but that's just me. When you catch him, he's coughs up his Star. He
also talks about being late for something, just like that crazy rabbit from
Alice In Wonderland.

********************************
Star #14: MIPS Strikes Back
********************************

Yes, that's right! Once you gain a whopping 50 Power Stars, MIPS the Rabbit
appears once more. For some strange reason, Nintendo chose not to give him
ANYTHING new, so this chase is basically the same thing as before. Catch him
for a second time, and he'll give you another Star. This begs the question:
Where is HE getting them?

*********************************************************
Star #15: Eight Red Coins In The Crazy Rainbow Place
*********************************************************

Ugh, this one is a real bitch! The whole level consists of using Wing Caps to
fly from cloud to cloud while collecting Red Coins. I'm not even going to TRY
to give directions for every individual Red Coin in this level. Let me just
say a few things. First, the cannon is your best friend. Use it wisely.
Second, if you're not sure if you can to make it to a certain cloud or not,
don't try it. Finally, NEVER let your Wing Cap run out. Hurry from place to
place, and always stop to get a new one when you have a chance. If you die
(fall), you'll wind up back outside the castle, so BE CAREFUL! I don't even
know where the Star appears. On a cloud I'm sure.

above their heads.

Description: A flying book with a red tongue. And he's got big pointy teeth
like this! Gnaaaah!
Attack: Flying into you and/or biting you in the head.
How To Kill: Well, although I've never tried it myself, supposedly you can

since the Coin it gives you is enough to recover.
Reward: 1 Blue Coin

Bullet Bill
Description: A gigantic missile, only found at the top of Whomp's Fortress.
Attack: Dude, it's a missile.
How To Kill: Unlike the original Mario games, Bullet Bill is invulnerable is

Reward: A painful death.

Bully
Description: It looks like a Bob-Omb with horns. Oh, and green feet.
Attack: It will charge you and try to knock you off whatever platform you may
be on, and into the lava.
How To Kill: Punch it repeatedly until you knock his sorry ass into the lava
below.

How To Kill: Yet another enemy that you can't kill.
Reward: Nothing.

Chuckya
Description: These guys are cool! They're big purple Bob-Ombs.
Attack: Look at their name and I'll bet you can figure it out. These guys
will try to grab you and throw you anywhere they can.
How To Kill: You'll have to throw THEM. It's really quite fun.
Reward: Five Yellow Coins and an explosion.

Goomba
Description: Oh come on! You know what Goombas look like. EVERYBODY knows
what Goombas look like!
Attack: Fifteen years and they haven't developed anything better than madly
running at you.
How To Kill: Punch it, jump on it, whatever.
Reward: One Yellow Coin

Heave-Ho
Description: It looks like a lobster with a dustpan.
Attack: Getting under and flipping you with the aforementioned dustpan.
How To Kill: You can't kill these guys, which is good because they help you
reach higher areas.
Reward: Altitude!

Koopa Troopa
Description: Once a Mario mainstay, there are only two Koopa Troopas in this
game. Hell, there aren't even any Red Koopa Troopas. Anyway, a Koopa Troopa
is a yellow turtle in a green shell.
Attack: These guys just try to run away from you. However, if you walk into
them, or get in their way when they're trying to get back to their shell, you
will be hurt.
How To Kill: Jump on him once to force him out of his shell, and then again
to kill him. You'll notice that he isn't wearing any pants (I KNEW IT!)  or a
shirt.
Reward: One Blue Coin

Lakitu
Description: Another classic, Lakitus are little yellow guys who fly around
in clouds and throw down Spineys at you. Damn near impossible to kill.
Attack: Throwing those bastard Spineys at you.
How To Kill: Either do a Triple Jump, or get up above him, and then Butt
Stomp.
Reward: Five Yellow Coins

Mad Piano
Description: HA! This guy scared the shit out of me the first time I fought
him. It's a piano with (say it with me now) great big gnashing teeth.
Attack:
How To Kill: Have you ever killed a Mad Piano
Reward: Being eaten, unless you run.

Moneybags
Description: It looks like a normal, everyday Yellow Coin, until you get near
it. Then, it turns into a green change purse.
Attack: When you get too close, it will grow legs and jump out at you.
How To Kill: Just jump on it. No problem.
Reward: 5 Yellow Coins

Monty Mole (Mole)
Description: A brown mole that pops out of a hole in the ground.
Attack: Throws a small rock/dirt clod at you.
How To Kill: I don't think you actually kill them, but if you jump on one, it
goes back into the ground. Another one will pop up shortly thereafter.
Reward: Another damn mole. However, if you kill enough, you get a 1-Up!

Mr. Blizzard (Snowman)
Description: It's a cross between a Hopping Snowman and a Mr. I. Kind of
resembles a snowball.
Attack: Throws large snowballs at you.
How To Kill: As you would with a standard Mr. I, just run around it a few
times and it'll die.
Reward: 5 Yellow Coins

Mr. I
Description: A huge eyeball. It's blue, if you must know.
Attack: They shoot funny-looking pink balls of something-or-other at you.
How To Kill: Just get up close and run around it a few times. It'll start
spinning out of control, then shrink away and die.
Reward: 1 Blue Coin

Piranha Plant
Description: You've probably seen them from the original, and they haven't
changed much. A big red flower thingy on top of a thick green stalk.
Attack: They're immobile, but they can still snap at you. Also, some can
shoot fire.
How To Kill: There are two types: Sleeping and awake. For the sleeping ones,
just creep up to them and punch or do a Superman (Running jump then B) to
take them out. The awake ones are harder, as they shoot fire. Just avoid the
fireballs and punch them when you have a chance.
Reward: 1 Blue Coin (Sleeping), 2 Yellow Coins (Awake)

Pokey (Cactus)
Description: It's a big yellow (huh?) cactus with spikes sticking out all
over. It's segmented, too. Remember these guys from any of the originals?
Attack: Just plain old walking into you will do.
How To Kill: Kick him in the head segment. A kick to any other segment will
destroy that particular segment, thus making the head easier to get to.
Reward: 1 Blue Coin

Scuttle Bug (Spider)
Description: Nice name. It's a yellow, blue, and red spider-like enemy with
spindly legs.
Attack: They charge at you in groups.
How To Kill: Just jump on it. Easy as 1, 2, orangutan.
Reward: 3 Yellow Coins

Shy Guy a.k.a. Sniffit
Description: Yeah! Shy Guys rock! They're midgets dressed in red robes with
nondescript white masks pulled on over their faces. Shy Guys!!!
Attack: They shoot fireballs at you, three at a time, Megaman style.
How To Kill: Bop that motherfucker!
Reward: 2 Yellow Coins

Skimmers/Skeeters
Description: Whatever you call them, they're bluish, semitransparent
creatures that skim across the water.
Attack: Umm...just basically running into you.
How To Kill: Jump on it.
Reward: 5 Yellow Coins

Spindrift
Description: Hehehe. Somebody was lightin' up in the graphics department,
that's what I say! Strange creatures with flowers on their heads that whirl
around like helicopter blades.
Attack: These guys don't seem to be too interested in hurting our Italian
friend.
How To Kill: Anything will work, but if you jump on their heads, you'll go
floating away.
Reward: 1 Yellow Coin

Sushi (Shark)
Description: It's a shark, and Montpelier is the capitol of Vermont. What
more do you need to know?
Attack: Swimming into you, but apparently not biting.
How To Kill: You can't kill these guys, since they're underwater.
Reward: N/A

Swoop (Bat)
Description: A blue, circular creature found hanging on walls.
Attack: Flying at you kamikaze style.
How To Kill: A simple jump or stomp will do quite nicely.
Reward: 1 Yellow Coin

Thwomp
Description: A large blue block, Thwomps can be found in several other Mario
games.
Attack: It goes up and down in a predetermined rhythm. All platform games
have things like these.
How To Kill: In case you haven't figured it out by now, these guys are
impossible to kill.
Reward: Not ending up looking like a pancake!

Whomp
Description: Large, gray, rectangular blocks that walk on their hind feet.
Very odd looking. Very odd looking indeed.
Attack: If you get in front of one, it will attempt to fall down on you,
thereby crushing you.
How To Kill: Wait until it tries to crush you, get out of the way, and do a
Butt Stomp on its back. Note that if you just jump on its back, 1 Yellow Coin
will pop out of its back. Repeat five times for five Coins.
Reward: 5-10 Yellow Coins

------------------------
Special Enemies
------------------------

Special enemies are enemies that either can't be killed, only appear once in
the game, or are just plain SPECIAL. The key will be the same as for the
"Enemies" Section:

Bubba
Description: A HUUUUUUGE Cheep-Cheep.
Attack: He can swallow you whole in one bite. Quite frightening if you ask
me.
How To Kill: HAHAHAHA!!! Yeah, kill him, that's the ticket. Heh.
Reward: Umm...being eaten if you're dumb enough to try and kill him.

Chain Chomp
Description: A gigantic black ball with eyes and teeth. He's big, mean, and
naaaaaasty.
Attack: Biting you with those sharp teeth of his.
How To Kill: Well, you technically can't "kill" Chain Chomp, but if you do a
Butt Stomp on the stake holding him in three times he'll fly away.
Reward: No more Chain Chomp, that's what! Of course, there's also his Star.

Grindel (Mummy Thwomp)
Description: A Thwomp wrapped up like a mummy. How entertaining, eh?
Attack: Just like Thwomps, these guys will do their best to crush poor Mario.
How To Kill: You can't kill Thwomps!
Reward: Not being a pancake-looking thing, I presume.

Klepto
Description: He's a vulture. He looks like a vulture.
Attack: Klepto never really attacks you, but if you jump into him, you'll get
hurt. He does, however, take your hat. That bastard.
How To Kill: Jesus Christ, can Mario kill ANYTHING?
Reward: Your hat back, sometimes.

Tox Box
Description: The big, rolling box with faces painted on the sides patrolling
the bridge in Shifting Sand Land.
Attack: Crushing you.
How To Kill: You can't kill him, but to survive his attack, make sure that
the side that falls on you is the hollow side.
Reward: Not applicable.

Unagi The Eel
Description: He's the great big eel that hangs around under the ship in Dire
Dire Docks. He has a Star on his tail.
Attack: He never actually attacks you, but he can hurt you rather bad when
you're trying to get the Star.
How To Kill: You can't kill him.
Reward: The Star, if you can get to it.

Bosses
------------------------

What!?! Bosses, in a Mario game?? Say it ain't so Miyamoto! Yes, that's
right, unlike your average Mario game, Mario 64 actually features real,
decent bosses. Amazing, isn't Although there certainly could be more, I'm not
going to complain. It's better than facing one of Bowser's stupid kids every
few levels, right?

Name of Boss
Where Found:
Description:
Difficulty:
Strategy:

King Bob-Omb
Where Found: Course #1, Bob-Omb Battlefield, at the top of the mountain.
Description: He's a gigantic Bob-Omb with a big white mustache and a rather
large golden crown upon his head.
Difficulty: *
Strategy: Could this guy be any easier? Oh well, any boss is better than no
boss at all, and besides that, he makes funny noises. Before I go on, I
should point out that this fight takes place under 'Royal Rules', which means
you can't throw the King over the edge of the mountain. Of course, he can
still throw you, but being the King has certain privileges, right? That said,
simply run around behind the King and grab hold of him. Toss him onto the
ground for one hit. Repeat this process a few times, and on the third hit,
the King will admit defeat and explode, leaving behind a Power Star.

King Whomp
Where Found: Course #2, Whomp's Fortress, at the top of the level (kind of).
Description: He looks just like an ordinary Whomp, only much bigger.
Difficulty: *+1/2
Strategy: As you would with an ordinary Whomp, just stand there until you see
him prepare to attack. Then, of course, run, because he'll come crashing down
and if he hits you, it hurts. Now jump up on his back and do a butt stomp on
the bandaged 'X' on his back. You better hurry though, because you don't have
very much time. Repeat the stomping process three times and the King will
give you a super happy fun Star!

Big Boo
Where Found: Course #5, Big Boo's Haunt, all over the place.
Description: As with so many of these bosses, the Big Boo looks just like its
average counterparts, only larger. MUCH larger.
Difficulty: *+1/2
Strategy: The Big Boo will only move when you're facing away from him, and
he's only vulnerable when he's moving. Taking that into consideration, face
away from the Big Boo and wait until he gets very close to you. Now jump up
in the air and do a butt stomp. Lather, donkey, repeat, and remember that
where there's a Big Boo, you had better believe there's a Star to be found.

Big Bully
Where Found: Course #7, Lethal Lava Land and Course #10, Snowman's Land.
Description: As you might expect by the name, a Big Bully looks just like a
Bully, only bigger. The version found in Snowman's Land is an Ice Bully, and
it's blue.
Difficulty: **
Strategy: Stand in a corner of the platform that the Big Bully is on and wait
for him to charge you. When he does, jump your ass out of the way right
quick. If you timed it properly, the Big Bully will be right on the edge and
you'll be behind him. Bye-bye Bully! The Ice Bully is harder, and I would
suggest using jump kicks on him. Each Bully leaves a Star after his dramatic
death scene.

Eyerok
Where Found: Course #8, Shifting Sand Land, inside the ancient pyramid.
Description: The most unique boss in the game, Eyerok consists of two stone
hands with eyeballs in the center. Reminds me a lot of Bongo-Bongo from Zelda
64, minus the disappearing and extreme coolness.
Difficulty: **+1/2
Strategy: Eyerok has a variety of attacks, like clapping, punching, shoving,
etc. You'll have to avoid these, which can be accomplished pretty easily by
moving around a lot and jumping. When you finally see one of the eyes open,
run forward and punch it. Keep this up until both hands are dead. That
requires hitting each hand three times. I would suggest focusing all your
attack on one hand first, because one hand is a lot less dangerous than two.
As usual, all your hard work earns you nothing more than a lousy Star.

Wiggler
Where Found: Course #13, Tiny-Huge Island, inside Wiggler's Cavern
Description: Last seen in Super Mario RPG, Wiggler is a big, yellow,
segmented worm with a flower on his/her head. And lots of brown feet.
Difficulty: **+1/2
Strategy: Just jump on the silly bastige's head a bunch of times. Wiggler's
speed will increase with each hit, but that shouldn't turn out to be too much
of a problem. Wiggler, like all the other bosses, rewards you with a Star.

Bowser In The Dark World
Where Found: Why, the Dark World of course!
Description: He's Bowser! He's a big, ugly, yellowish, turtle-looking thing.
I must say he looks quite impressive on the N64. Nice spikes.
Difficulty: *+1/2
Strategy: Fight him just like you would the King Bob-Omb. Run around behind
him and use 'B' to grab his tail. This guy, however, is a little different
than the King. You'll have to finish him off by swinging him around by the
tail and tossing him into one of the bombs lining the perimeter of the
battlefield. To spin him around, rotate the analog stick as fast as you can.
This is a fairly easy battle, since one hit kills him.

Bowser In The Fire Sea
Where Found: Derrr! The Fire Sea!
Description: Yeah, it's still the same old Bowser. I'm sure he looks a little
bit different, but I can't be bothered to go look right now.
Difficulty: **
Strategy: Hey, Bowser's learned some new things since we last saw him! For
starters, he'll jump up about twenty feet in the air, and when he comes down
the entire battlefield will tilt toward him. This can cause you to run into
him or fall off if you're not careful. I suggest jumping when he hits, then
running REALLY fast. Those fireballs can be a bit bitchy as well. Also, he
can warp behind you if you happen to get too close for his comfort. Lucky for
you, he hasn't gotten any more resilient since the last time we saw him. One
bomb does the trick again.

Bowser In The Sky
Where Found: He's found in - say it with me now kids - THE SKY!
Description: Nope, he still hasn't changed (well, he probably has but...bah!)
Difficulty: ***
Strategy: A few new moves to discuss first off. He still jumps, but this
time, instead of the arena tilting, two shockwaves will emit from where he
lands. A couple of well-timed jump (or just one) will take care of this
problem for you. Also, he shoots heat-seeking fireballs and iceballs. Lucky
for you, some of the fire leaves behind coins. Precious, life-giving coins!
If you're far away from him, he'll charge full speed at you. This can
obviously be exploited. However you choose to go about grabbing him, it takes
three bombs to kill him this time. Of course, there's a twist. After two
hits, Bowser will lop off several parts of the playing field, transforming it
into a giant star. Getting the last hit can be somewhat difficult, since you
don't have much room to work with, but you should be able to pull it off.
Once you do, you've won the game.

Ah, the legal disclaimer. Certainly my favorite section of every FAQ I
publish. Ahem...

Basically, I don't really care where this document shows up, as long as you
follow a few basic guidelines. First of all, this is MY FAQ, and I should
always receive full credit for it. This document should not be altered in any
way whatsoever, at all. Lastly, I'd appreciate you telling me about it and
giving me a link to the site if you're going to use my work. Just make sure
that you do all of that, and everything will be A-Ok!
