1.Introduction
Released on July 24th 1998 by Hudson soft, this game is a tie in for Takara's
series of B-Daman marble shooting toys. Similar Takara's other toy, Beyblade,
there are many different types of battles that can be played with the B-Daman.
The first toys were released in 1993 and looked like Bomberman. I remember these
toys being shown off in the British publication, Nintendo 64 Magazine. I really
wanted one at the time but they were never released in the UK. N64 Magazine
later reviewed this game giving it the very low score of 23%, calling it a
“cheap and nasty mixture of simplistic shooting games.” This game is also
compatible with the 64GB pak. You can use it to trade items with the game boy
game, Super B-Daman Fighting Phoenix.
B-Daman and it's anime eventually came to the US in 2004. Tournaments for the
toys are supposedly still held in Canada and Japan. In 2005 the Crash B-Daman
series was met with some controversy in Japan for their pistol shaped design.
This resulted in this branch of the toy line being cancelled despite being
popular abroad.
Please note, in this game B-Daman refers to your characters robot/toy. While the
term B-Dama refers to the bullets/shots they fire. I thought that was cooler
than calling everything B-Balls all the time, which would be unintentionally
hilarious in many places.

The 10 types of Competition
The types of competition are divided into two types, gun sight type and
trajectory type. Each competition has different clear conditions.
トロッコシューティング Truck Shooting (gun sight type)
While the truck drives around shoot at the targets, in this points based battle.
If you hit the course changing level with a shot, a new route will start. The
player with the highest points when the truck reaches the goal is the winner.
Try shooting various things, you can get points from many things, not just
targets.
モグラたたきバトル Mole Attack Battle (trajectory type)
Shoot the moles as they jump out of the holes, in this points based battle.
There are many types of mole, with different points values. Within one minue try
to get the most points. Aim for the rare moles! There are also moles that will
reduce your points if you shoot them, so be careful.
ビリヤードバトルBilliard Battle (trajectory type)
Hit the balls with B-Dam and try to sink them into the pockets, in this points
based battle. This is a turn based battle, the order is determined by a coin
toss. After the seven balls are potted, the winner is the player with the most
points. White balls are worth 1 point and red balls are worth 3. If one ball
knocks another into a pocket its value will be times by three. If you fail to
hit a ball with a B-Dama you will receive a foul and lose one point. On your
turn, your opponent will become a ball, if you sink your opponent into a pocket,
you will get an extra turn. On the extra turn all balls will be worth 3 times
their normal value.
恐竜玉入れバトル Dinosaur Battle (gun sights type)
Shoot B-Dama into the mouths of the Dinosaurs which are chasing you, in this
points battle. Along the way Pterosaurs will fly by, if you get a shot in their
mouth you will get a lot of points. The player with the most points when you
reach the goal is the winner. Be careful not to shoot the dinosaurs bodies! The
dinosaurs will stomp closer and closer so it is easy to hit them. But if you do
you will lose 5 points. Also if your opponent shoots a B-Dama in your dinosaur’s
mouth it will follow your opponent and vice versa.
パワークラッシュ Power Crash (Gun sights type
A battle to break the targets that appear faster than your rival. There are 16
targets in all, and one minute to compete to break more targets than your rival.
Aim for the weak points!! Depending on the target the shot type that will break
them is different. Fire B-Dama whilst checking your gauge. Also, each target has
a weak point that will break it in one hit. In order to clear the game quicker
than your rival, search for these weak points!
エアボールバトル Air Ball Battle (trajectory type)
Use B-Dam to knock the ball into your rivals court, compete to be the one to
burst the ball. There are spikes on your opponents court, if the ball touches
them it will burst. If the game passes the two minute time limit, then the
players whose court the ball lands on first will lose. Be careful how you move
in Air Ball!! You can confuse your opponent by making the ball shape shift,
making it get bigger or get smaller. There is also an air machine on the center
of the court which can send the ball up or down, so be careful!
ゲートクリアバトル Gate Clear Battle (Gun sights type)
Four types of gate will appear randomly, it is a battle to clear them in various
ways. 12 gates will appear, the winner is the first player to destroy the last
gate. If the time limit runs out, the player who has destroyed the most gates
wins. The four types of gates are as follows
Fast Shot Gates – Shoot them in order from 1 to 5. If make a mistake you have to
start over from the beginning.
Power Gates – Try and shoot them as hard as possible.
Timing Gates – If you shoot the gate marked with a key they will open. If you
make a mistake you will go back one gate.
Panel Gates – There are 12 gates, only one of which is marked with an O. Shoot
it to open the gate.
パンダダーツバトル Panda Darts Battle (gun sights type)
Whilst scrolling left and right, shoot B-Dama at the targets held. Compete to
score the most points. The winner is the most points at the end of the two
minute time limit.
Don’t shoot the pandas!!
Sometimes pandas holding other baby pandas will appear. If you shoot them or the
adult pandas, you will lose points. On the other hand if you shoot the targets
that have panda faces painted on them you will get a lot of points.
ビーダマンラリー B-Daman Rally (trajectory type)
Aim to shoot B-Dama through the rings that are scattered around the course.
Advance using the map radar, the amount of points you will get is dependent on
the colour of the ring.
In 2 player mode, 1P is on the left and 2P is on the right. The winner is the
first player to pass the goal in the three minute time limit with the most
points.
Aim to get to the goal in the best time!
The first player to pass through the goal ring will get 5 points plus 1 point
for every 10 seconds remaining on the clock. In order to get the most points,
aim to get to the goal first!
闘魂ロボットバトル Fighting Spirit Robot Battle (gun sights type)
Shoot the control panels in front of you to make your robot fight. If your robot
knocks down your opponent’s robot, you will win. If there is no winner by the
end of the 2 minute time limit, the winner is the player whose robot has the
most health (shown above your robot)
When you shoot control panels with B-Dama, your robot’s B-spirit gauge will fill
up (shown between the two panel boxes).
Control Panels
There are six types of control panel, which make your robot do techniques of
differing power. There are some techniques you cannot do if you do not have
enough B-spirit gauge. The locations of the Control Panels is random.
Fist – Punch, the weakest attack, but can be used even if you have 0 B-Spirit.
Foot – Kick, a moderate attack, can be used if you have a little B-Spirit.
Green Ball – Your robot will shoot a B-Dama.
Blue Ball - Your robot will shoot a powerful B-Dama, reduces your B-Spirit a
lot.
White jewel – A Killer Technique, changes depending on your character, you need
a full B-Spirit gauge to use it because it is the strongest technique.
A Blue Ball and a yellow tick – Counter / Guard. When your opponent attacks, you
have two forms of defense. If your B-Spirit guage is full you can guard to
reduce the damage you take by half, or you can shoot the same panel as your
opponent to do a counter attack. Depending on the counter attack it may use your
B-Spirit, or it may reverse all the damage your opponent does back to them. You
can counter any type of attack, so shoot the randomly appearing panel with good
timing.
