1. Getting Started

This is a guide for the Fire/Wind Challenge in Quest 64. It gives info on
pretty much every strategy in the game. Now, to be honest, I don't care
what you do with this as long as I get credit. Now, onto the guide. Shall
we?

First of all, your probably wondering what the Fire/Wind Challenge is. It
is an extremely hard challenge where your first two elements that you max
out MUST be Fire and Wind. There is also a tougher challenge called the
"Only Fire/Wind Challenge." In this challenge, you can only use Fire and
Wind, even if you max out three or four elements.

I am here to help you with these challenges. Many people have trouble
beating Quest 64 with Water and Earth, so beating the game with Wind
and Fire is beyond most people's skills. Listed in the FAQ will be tips on
what spells to use, what spells not to use, and bosses.

I can't explain all the helpful tips here, so just read on, and you'll
find them.

2. HELPFUL TIPS

In this section is a list of tips that will be vital to your survival
should you attempt the challenges.

TIP #1: Wind Cutter lv. 3 is one of your best friends. Because of
it's power and homing abilities, it will be one of your main weapons.

TIP #2: Power Staff + Vampire's Fang is a dynamite combo. Vampire's
Fang will be your only way of healing through magic, and the Power
Staff skill really increases it's effectiveness.

TIP #3: Use healing items only when you absolutely have to. Because
they will be the most important point of you surviving, only use them
if you can't survive another attack and you know you won't win with your
next attack.

TIP #4: If you're low on health that you need to conserve, don't be
afraid to run from your opponent. Do realize that you will most likely be
doing A LOT of running.

TIP #5: Skills that increase your speed such as Evade and Wind Walk will
be very helpful in avoiding enemy attacks.

TIP #6: Start the game with Wind. It will make the game a lot easier if
you start with Wind.

That's really all the tips I can think of. If you have another tip,
email it to me and I may just put it in the faq.

SECTION #2: SPELLS NOT TO USE

SPELL NOT TO USE #1: Pretty muchly any Fire attack spell is far
outclassed by the good Wind attack spells.

SPELL NOT TO USE #2: The second spell not to use is Ultimate Wind.
Although it hits all opponents, it's just too weak to be a good spell.

SPELL NOT TO USE #3: The third spell you should stay away from is
Cyclone. Although it is a fairly good spell, Wind Cutter lv. 3 is much
better.

SPELL NOT TO USE #4: Wind Bomb is the fourth spell not to use. It's
too weak to begin with, and is far outclassed by Wind Cutter lv. 3.

SECTION #3: STRATEGIES

STRATEGY #1: Vampire's Fang plus Power Staff is an unstoppable combo.
Vampire's Fang drains enemy HP when you staff them, and Power Staff
powers up your staff. The result is a high power Vampire's Fang that
lets you drain a lot of enemy HP. This will most likely be your only
way of healing through magic throughout the whole game.

STRATEGY #2: Evade plus Wind Walk is also a very effective combo.
Evade increases your evasiveness, or ability to dodge attacks, while
Wind Walk increases your speed. By combining them, you get a combo
that makes you harder to hit while you hit the opponent more thanks
to your speed increase.

STRATEGY #3: Wind Cutter, Wind Cutter, Wind Cutter..... Wind
Cutter lv. 3 will be your most used attacking spell, or at least it
should be. It fires many homing projectiles that hit the opponent
from VERY FAR AWAY. The main strategy for the Wind Cutter lv. 3, is
to hang back and just fire repeated Wind Cutter lv. 3 attacks. This
will be stated repeatedly in the Boss Section.

STRATEGY #4: I would think this would be common sense, but I'll put
it here anyway. Always use your worst healing items first. You want
save your best healing items for the latter parts of the game,
because that's when you'll really need them.

STRATEGY #5: Don't be afraid to die! Whether your training, and you
die, or your going out of your way for a spirit and you die, it's ok.
As long as you die for a worthy cause, there's really nothing wrong
with it.

STRATEGY #6: Items such as Giant's Shoes and Amulets will be very
beneficial to your health. Using power-up items will help you survive.

SECTION #4: ITEM RANKINGS
In This section, I will rate every item on a scale of one to five,
one being bad and five being great.

GIANT'S SHOES: 5/5
The Giant's Shoes are good because they increase your walking range
in battle. These help you avoid enemie's up-close attacks, which are
usually the most devastating.

SILVER AMULET: 4/5
The Silver Amulet increase your defense by 1.5 times. Although not as
good as the Golden Amulet, this amulet is still a good item to have.

GOLDEN AMULET: 5/5
The stronger version of the Silver Amulet. This increase your defense
by 2 times.

CELINE'S BELL: 3/5
This item freezes the opponent. It only got a 3/5 because it isn't
very effective.

SILENT FLUTE: 3/5
I believe this silences the opponent. It only got a 3/5 due to low
effectiveness.

REPLICA: 4/5
Allows you to escape a battle.

FRESH BREAD: 2/5
This item only heals you by 50HP, so it is really useless after about
the second boss.

HONEY BREAD: 3/5
This bread heals you by 100HP, and is more useful than Fresh Bread. It
is useful until about the first Sub-Boss.

CELTLAND HEALING POTION: 4/5
This potion heals you by 150HP. It is very useful, and helps
throughout the whole game.

SPIRIT LIGHT: 5/5
This cocktail fully heals your HP. It is by far the most useful
healing item.

DEW DROP: 1/5
This item only heals 10MP, making it pretty worthless after the first
boss.

MINT LEAVES: 2/5
This item heals 20MP. It becomes fairly useless after the second boss.

HERO'S DRINK: 3/5
This item heals a substantial 40MP. The Hero's Drink is useful up until
after the fourth boss.

DRAGON'S POTION: 5/5
This item heals all of your MP. It is useful anytime in the game.

WHITE WINGS: N/A
These wings take you back to Melrode. They will not work in forests or
caves.

YELLOW WINGS: N/A
These wings take you back to Dondoran. They will not work in forests
or caves.

BLUE WINGS: N/A
These wings take you back to Larapool. They will not work in forests or

The jewel that holds the Earth Spirit.

HOLY PLAINS

Man Eater: This monster's attacks do lots of damage.

CONNOR FORTRESS: N/A

DONDORAN FLATS

Cockatrice: This monster knows Avalanche. Avoid it at all costs.

strong.

WEST CARMAGH

Avoid that one Ram monster. It knows Avalanche, so just don't fight
it.

CULL HAZARD

Scarecrow: This monster is strong. Just avoid it.

Wyvern: This monster is REALLY strong. Stay away at all costs.

WINDWARD FOREST

Ork: This monster is strong, so try to avoid it.

BLUE CAVE

Try to avoid pretty much every new monster.

EAST LIMELIN

Fishman: This monster's attack is powerful, so don't fight it.

Avoid every new enemy.

3. FAQ

There really isn't much to put into the FAQ, but I'll do my best to
provide good boss battle info. I will list the attacks of each boss,
but the attack names are made up by me. The aren't official in any way.

FIRST BOSS: SOLVARING, BEHOLDER OF THE EARTH ORB
ELEMENT USED: EARTH
ATTACKS:         #1 EARTHEN HAMMER: IN this attack, which is only used
at close range, he hammers the ground and spikes shoot out of the
ground. Avoid it at all costs.

#2 MAGMA BLAST: He fires a beam of magma. This is his
long ranged attack.

This guy uses Earth as his weapon. He is fairly easy if you started
with Wind. I have no data on how to beat him with Fire, though.
With Wind, all you have to do is hang back and Wind Cutter lv. 3 him to
death. Use a healing item if needed.

SUMMARY: Basically, just stay away from him. You don't want to get hit
by his up-close attack, so just stay away.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 3/5

SECOND BOSS: ZELSE, BEHOLDER OF THE WIND JADE
ELEMENT USED: WIND
ATTACKS:         #1 LARGE CUTTER: He fires a Large Cutter. This is his
close-up attack. Avoid it at all costs.

#2 GUST HORIZON: A blast of Wind fires from the sky.
He uses this whenever he feels. It's almost never misses.

#3 SHURIKEN SQUAD: He throws many star like projectiles.
This is his ranged attack.

This one's a toughie. He uses Wind, and if you started with Wind, your
Fire won't be strong enough and your Wind will be too ineffective. My
advice is to just get in his face and whack him to death with your
staff. Use Power Staff if you have it, and use a healing item if needed.

SUMMARY: This is a tough fight. You can either pelt him with Wind, or
whomp him with your staff, your choice.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 5/5

THIRD BOSS: NEPTY, BEHOLDER OF THE WATER GEM
ELEMENT USED: WATER
ATTACKS:         #1 AQUA BOMB: She forms a bomb around herself. This
is her close-up attack. Avoid it at all costs.

#2: BUBBLE BOP: She throws many bubbles. This is her
ranged attack.

She's fairly easy to defeat. You can, either; 1. Hit her with Wind
Cutter lv. 3 spells from afar, or you can; 2. Get in her face and burn
her with fire. The second option is only recommended if your are
fairly strong. Use a healing item if needed.

SUMMARY: A fairly easy fight. Just hang back and pelt her with Wind
attacks.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 2/5

SUB-BOSS: SHILF, SERVANT OF MAMMON
ELEMENT USED: WIND
ATTACKS:         #1 : GREEN BLAST: She fires a green ray.

#2: SHURIKEN SQUAD: She fires many starlike
projectiles.

She is pretty darn easy to defeat. To me, she is just like a souped
up Zelse. If I remember correctly, Fireball lv. 3 absolutely murders
her. Use a healing item if needed.

SUMMARY: Use Fireball lv. 3 to absolutely kill her. Easy, easy, easy!
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 1 and a half/5

FOURTH BOSS: FARGO, BEHOLDER OF THE BLOOD RUBY
ELEMENT USED: FIRE
ATTACKS:         #1 INFERNAL BURST: His up-close attack. Avoid it by
staying away.

#2 LAVA SHOT: His ranged attack. You will be seeing
this a lot if you want to avoid the Infernal Burst.

Again, all you have to do is stay away and kill him with Wind Cutter
lv. 3. Use a healing item if needed.

SUMMARY: As usual, just hang back and fire Wind attacks at him.
Watch out for his up-close attack; it's a real doozie.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 3/5

FIFTH BOSS: GUILTY, SERVANT OF BEIGUS
ELEMENT USED: FIRE
ATTACKS:         #1 SUPERNOVA: He forms a bomb around himself. This
is his up-close attack. Avoid it at all costs.

#2 SHREDDING CLAWS: He strikes with his claws. This
is his ranged attack.

He is not tough at all. As usual, all you have to do is stand back
and pelt him with Wind Cutter lv. 3 attacks. Use a healing item if
needed.

SUMMARY: Not too difficult, considering his distanced attack misses
a lot. The only problem you might have it the small battle area. As
usual, just stand back and beat him with Wind.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 3/5

SIXTH BOSS: KING BEIGUS, UNKOWING SERVANT OF MAMMON
ELEMENT USED: WATER
ATTACKS:         #1 WRATH RAY: He shoots a ray that never misses.

#2 HADE'S BLADE: He fires his blade at you.

You should know the drill by now. Use a healing item if needed.

SUMMARY: Although Beigus is tough, he is beaten by long
distance Wind attacks. However, he will kill you if you aren't
in your prime form.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 4/5

FINAL! BOSS: MAMMON, UNDERWORLD LORD
ELEMENT USED: OMNIELEMENTAL, OR ALL ELEMENTS
ATTACKS:         #1 JUDGEMENT FLARES: He throws three walls of fire
out in different directions. Avoid it at all costs.

                #2 GUST HORIZON: See Zelse.

#3 ARROWS OF OBLIVION: He fires many small fire arrows.
Try to avoid them if you can.

It all comes down to this. The drill is slightly different this time
though. This time, I would suggest moving to the edge of the rock, and
smacking him with your staff after you've used Power Staff lv. 2. When
you win, you, have beaten the game!

SUMMARY: He uses all elements, so he is tough. This time, you have
to whap him with your staff a lot to kill him.
FINAL DIFFICULTY RATING: 5/5
