(o)>------------------------( UPDATES )--------------------------<(o)

1.1 - Nearly a month after, I have finally got a cop of the game
in my hands, and not a rental. Well this FAQ should be
complete in about 3-4 more versions. Depending if any more
        secrets come out. Released 13/10/99
  1.0 - Well everything.... Released 15/09/99

(o)>--------( AUTHOR'S NOTES ABOUT THIS FAQ/WALKTHROUGH )--------<(o)

Well firstly I finished this in under 5 hours, well dinner has to
be taken out of that so it might be close to 4 hours tops. I'm not at
all gloating about my time, as I was stuck on one of the Pokésign's
for quite a while, until I stumbled onto it by accident while trying
to find it a different way.

Another point with this Faq/Walkthrough is that I had nearly no
help from other Faq's on the net, for one simple reason, at the time
of the first release of this faq, my computer's com ports have been
burnt out and I was unable to get onto the net to find anything. So I
run up a friend and got her to tell me some stuff, but even she was
not that helpful (Sorry Jess.., you tried your best!). So this is
100% mine without any other online help.

(o)>---------------------( INTRODUCTION )------------------------<(o)

You play as Todd, a gifted photographer in a vehicle that travels
through each stage of Pokemon Island.  Each stage is actually a
different area of the island.  (Eg: A beach, a tunnel, a volcano,
etc.)  You do not have complete freedom of movement, the vehicle
(known as the Zero-One) has a path that it follows every time you
play a stage.  In most levels it is on a rail, in others it floats
down river on pontoons, even using jet boosters in one stage to fly
about.  Every time you play a stage you get a fresh roll of film that
has room for a maximum of 60 pictures.

(o)>-----------------------( CONTROLS )--------------------------<(o)

NOTE: For using items, make sure that the camera isn't focused.

Control Stick      Moves your view.
Start Button       Pauses the game.
R Button           Press and hold to use the Dash Engine and make
                  Zero-One move faster.
Z Button           Press and hold to focus your camera. If you set
the Z button to "Switch", press it once to focus
and press it again to back to the normal view.
A Button           (When focused) Takes a picture.
                  (Not focused)  Throws Pokemon Food.
B Button           Throws a Pester Ball.
C-Down             Plays a tune from the Poke Flute.
C-Up               Moves your view to the front.
C-Right            Moves your view to the right.
C-Left             Moves your view to the left.

(o)>-----------------------( PICTURES )--------------------------<(o)

Your basic goal in the game is to get the best possible picture
of each pokemon.  You start out the game with only a camera, but you
will be given other items to use as you progress further.  Different
pokemon are located in different areas (stages), so you must open up
new stages by either getting a high enough score from Dr. Oak, based
upon the pictures that you have taken.  Or by hitting a switch in the
level, these switches cannot be hit by you, you must instead get a
pokemon to hit it for you by using some of the extra items.

(o)>------------------------( SCORING )--------------------------<(o)

Once you have gone through a stage and taken all the pictures
that you wanted.  (60 or less) You can then go see Dr. Oak and get
them graded. He grades based on the following criteria:

Size - The bigger they are while still fitting in the picture,
          the better your score.
Pose - Make sure the PKMN is facing you, and try to get them
doing something other than just sitting there.
Technique - Make sure they are centred in the picture.  When
your view finder turns red and beeps, they are
centred.  If you do this your score in the other 3
               categories gets multiplied X2.
Other PKMN - Try to get more than one PKMN of the same type in
                the picture.

(o)>------------------------( ALBUMS )---------------------------<(o)

You can go see Dr. Oak and give him one picture per species of
PKMN. He will take these pictures and put them in an album.  (Eg: Get
your best picture of Pikachu graded, and it will go into his album
for the Pikachu section)

Now there is also an personal album where you can keep any
pictures that you like. This album can hold a maximum of 60 pictures.

Finally there is the gallery which can only hold 4 pictures, and
these pictures can be taken from Dr. Oak's album or your personal
one.  Once you have chosen 4 pictures you can print them out at a
Pokemon Snap station at a participating Blockbuster Video store near
you.

(o)>----------------------( EXTRA ITEMS )------------------------<(o)

These extra items will help you in your PKMN journey:

Pokemon Food - You can throw this and get a picture of a PKMN
eating. You could also use these to lure a PKMN
to another PKMN or an object.  Can also be used
as a weapon, hit a PKMN with it to knock them out,
or anger them.  You are given Pokemon Food by Dr.
Oak once your pokemon report score is 14000 or
                  more.

Pester balls - Use these to annoy, distract, or manipulate PKMN.
These also can be thrown in certain locations on
the landscape to cause certain things to occur.
(Eg: In the volcano stage try throwing a pester
ball into one of the many craters and see what
                  happens...)

Poké Flute - Use this to get a reaction out of a PKMN.  Some may
like the noise and dance, or even use special moves.
Others may not, and might try attacking things.
This is given to you by Dr. Oak once you find one
                of the 6 pokemon signs.

Speed up - This can be used to make the Zero-One travel faster.
It is given to you once you find Dr. Oak's secret lab.
(When you find the alternate exit in the Valley
              stage.)

(o)>-----------------( POKéTOUR LEVEL ACCESS )-------------------<(o)

Through-out the game you will have to proceed to the next stage
to get new Pokémon. But to do this you have to do certain things in
each stage.

BEACH - Need ## Pokémon Filmed.

TUNNEL - At the end of the stage you will find a ELECTRODE near
some boulders. Hit it with an APPLE and it will cause
the Boulders to be knocked away when it explodes. You
will now have access to the next stage.

RIVER - Where you see a switch throw an APPLE or PESTER BALL at
the Bank wall behind it and out will pop a PORYGON. It
will land on the switch and open it to the next level.

VOLCANO - Need ## Pokémon Filmed.

CAVE - Need ## Pokémon Filmed.

VALLEY - Near the end of the level you will see a MANKEY on the
peak of a Mountain. Hit a SQUIRTLE at the base of the
Mountain with a PESTER BALL, and hope that he will slide
up and hit the MANKEY. If he does then the MANKEY will
fall, and just around the bend you will see him near a
switch. Hit the MANKEY with an APPLE or PESTER BALL, and
the MANKEY will fall onto the switch and you will goto
see Professor Oak at the Secret Hut.

(o)>------------------( POKéSIGN LOCATIONS )---------------------<(o)

Professor Oak will near the end of the game send you back through
the game looking for 'Pokémon Signs'. There is one on each level that
you have been on. Once you find them all you will be able to goto the
bonus RAINBOW CLOUD stage.

BEACH - Near the start there are some jaggered rock that look
like a KINGLER if you look from a certain direction.

TUNNEL - Make the JOLTEON power up the GENERATOR by hatching the
egg. Then later on you will see what looks like a pile
of junk. There will be a ligh shining onto a what with
the shadow looking like a PINCER.

RIVER - Near the VILEPLUME just behind it will be a large tree
           that looks like a CUBONE.

VOLCANO - At the first creator on your LEFT throw an APPLE or
PESTER BALL into it a few times and a cloud of smoke
will come out, and take a picture of the smoke that
             looks like a KOFFING.

CAVE - There is a place where it looks like gems sparkling. These
When they come out on film look like a MEWTWO.

VALLEY - In one of the first turns of the River you will be able
to see the Mountains shaped like a DUGTRIO.

(o)>-------------------( POKéEGG HATCHING )----------------------<(o)

Along the way you will find three EGG's. Here is how to hatch
them, and get a picture of the Pokémon inside.

TUNNEL - Lure the PIKACHU over to the egg with APPLES and then
use the POKéFLUTE to make the PIKACHU electracute the
egg, hatching it, and out will come a ZAPDOS.

VOLCANO - Throw an APPLE or PESTER BALL at it and it will fall
into the lava, and out of the lava will come a MOLTRES.

CAVE -    Use the POKéFLUTE to make the pair of JYNX to move
around. They will hatch the egg and out of the egg will
             come an ARTICUNO.

(o)>--------------------( POSING PIKACHU )-----------------------<(o)

Through-out the game you will be able to get a PIKACHU to do
certain things. Here is a list of how to do them and what Bonus
points you will score.

   STAGE      POSES                                     POINTS SCORE
   -----------------------------------------------------------------
BEACH      PIKACHU SURFING ON A SURF BOARD                   1000
Lure the first PIKACHU over to the Surf
Board by using Apples, wait until he gets
onto the board and there it is.

              PIKACHU'S ON A STUMP                              1300
At the fist set of bushes, make the SCYTHER
come out of hiding. Because the SCYTHER is
not in the bushes any more, the PIKACHU's
come out to play on the stump.

TUNNEL     PIKACHU ROLLING ON A ELECTRODE                     600
When you see the first PIKACHU right at
the start of the stage. Take pictures of
him and he will jump onto the closest
                electrode.

   RIVER      PIKACHU, SPEED PIKACHU                             800
At the end of the River stage you will see
some logs. PIKACHU will pop out of the top
of them. Tak a picture of him when he comes
out and he will take off out of the logs.
Now you have a SPEED PIKACHU.

   CAVE       BALLOON'S AWAY PIKACHU                            2000
Just after the WEEPINBELL, you will see a
ZUBAT holding a PIKACHU. Hit it with an
APPLE or PESTER BALL. The ZUBAT will rise
up and PIKACHU will float down with a set
of balloons attached to his back.

FLYING HIGH WITH CAPTAIN PIKACHU                  ????
Complete the first PIKACHU pose with the
Balloons, then play the POKéFLUTE to
awaken ARTICUNO. Continue on, but keep
looking back. You will eventually see
the mighty PIKACHU riding on the back of
ARTICUNO. NOTE: Make sure you get PIKACHU
and not ARTICUNO when you are taking
pictures of this, otherwise the ARTICUNO
                pictures won't count.

(o)>---------------------( POKé ENDINGS )------------------------<(o)

Well now your at the end of the game, but did you get the good
ending. Lets see.

If you captured MEW you got the BAD ending. This is the one that
everyone will see, so it's not as special as the other. This ending
is a slde-show type thing with the credits rolling over them.

If you collected all 63 Pokémon then you will get the good ending
because well you have completed the game. So what is the difference
with this ending, well instead of the slide-show ending you will see
a roll of film go by your screen with pictures of what you took in
the game. Yeah it's not that much better than the first one, but I
think that it is since you achived much more to get this ending.

(o)>-----------------------( POKéVENTS )-------------------------<(o)

There are special things that you can do in Pokémon Snap, that
will get you more points when t comes to taking pictures of Pokémon.
Here is just a few.

DUGTRIO-TRIO - Once you get the DUGTRIO to come up what them
further and they will keep on coming up and eventually, with
       two more DUGTRIO'S.

CHARMANDER 6 (CHARMANDER BITES BACK) - Where the Poké Egg is in
the VOLCANO stage, don't hit the Egg, so that you will stop
still. Then look to your left, and throw a few APPLES down
onto the ledge. Then upto 6 CHARMANDERS will come out. Lure
them towards you to get a really good picture.

GUSTY-WUSTY PIDGEY - Near the end of the stage you will see two
PIDGEY'S flying. Follow them and you will see them attack a
       MEOWTH with a GUST attack.

A VERY HAPPY MEOWTH - Prevent the Gust Attacking PIDGEY'S from
coming to attack MEOWTH. He will dance around in glee. Happy
I think not, more like VERY HAPPY.

MAGMARIAN FIGHT - Just after the MOLTRES you will see two
MAGMAR'S on a ledge. Throw an APPLE in-between them and they
will race over and start fighting for it. One photo that I
have got was of this pair, kissing and making up (Well not
really), they were just so close that when they were about to
breathe upon each other, I snapped it up and they were
       kissing.

THE THREE JIGGLYPUFF TENORS - Through-out the CAVE stage you will
see KOFFING chasing a JIGGLYPUFF. Hit KOFFING with a PESTER
BALL and he will go away. JIGGLYPUFF will the fly off. You
will be able to do this a few times before the end. Near the
end on the right hand side of the path, you will see a pink
stage where the JIGGLYPUFF(S) will be singing. Take pictures
of them here for the best poses. You can also make them angry
by playing the POKéFLUTE or throwing a PESTER BALL at them.

DANCE GRAVELER'S DANCE - Next to the waterfall in the VALLEY
stage you will see a set of three GRAVELER'S attached to a
cliff wall. Use the POKéFLUTE to get them down. They will
       then start dancing around.

(o)>------------------( OTHER HINTS AND TIPS )-------------------<(o)

You can sit here as long as you want. Throw an apple near a
Charmander, and it will tell all it's buddies there's food to be
had. Throw food at the other one and he'll call even more. You can
get up to six Charmanders, and you can lure them closer with the
pokemon food. To get them to hold still and look straight at you
for an AWESOME picture, play the Poke Flute.

How to hit the Valley Switch
At the beginning of the level, throw pesterballs at the squirtles
to make them leave the river. Further down the river you'll find
the squirtles sunning themselves at the base of a steep hill. At
the top is a mankey. As you pass the squirtles, throw pesterballs
at them, causing them to roll up the hill. If your timing is right,
the mankey will fall down and land near the switch. As you approach
the switch, throw another pesterball at the mankey, knocking him
 backwards onto the switch.

Lapras
At the beginning of the beach course, look at the ocean to the
right until a Lapras appears. It can barely be seen. Snap it about
5 or 6 times. Then, after the Meowth, focus on the ocean to the
right until a Lapras appears more close up. Snap it about 5 or 6
more times. Then, at the bridge, look at the ocean to the right.
If no Lapras appears, the trick has worked right. A little while
farther at the Kangaskhan, look at the ocean to the right. Two
Lapras will appear kind of far away. Snap the one on the right a
couple times and another Lapras will appear really close-up for an
 excellent photo!

Posing Pikachus
It seems everyone's favorite Pokemon is just looking for a photo
op. Here's some locations for some very special photographs.

To see Pikachu rolling on a ball go to the Tunnel. When you
start the stage take pictures of the Pikachu immediately. He
should move farther down. Keep taking his picture. He will stop
and jump on a rolling Electrode.

To see Speed Pikachu go to the River. At the very end on your
left you should see Pikachu hiding behind a tree. Throw an apple
at Pikachu and it should fall down. Then he will run back and
   forth as the Speed Pikachu.

To see Pikachu surfing go to the Beach. Throw apples at the
first Pikachu you see. Throw the apples on the right side of
your tracks. There will be a surf board there so try to lead
him there. If you do it right he will surf.

To see Pikachu on a stump go to the Beach stage. The first time
you see Meowth chasing a pidgey out of the long grass, throw
pester balls into the long grass to get Scyther. After you get
Scyther, 2 Pikachus should come out to the stump on your left
side. Lead them with apples and play the poke flute.

In the cave, towards the end, you will see a zubat carrying
Pikachu. Hit the zubat with apples and pesterballs until he
drops Pikachu. Pikachu will sprout balloons and fly away.

Save Pikachu from the Zubat in the Cave and awaken Articuno from
his egg by playing the Pokeflute. When you get to the end of the
level next to where Jigglypuff's stage is, turn around and
you'll see Pikachu riding on Articuno.
