I. INTRODUCTION
---------------
My apathy is legendary.
Nonetheless, I'm dedicated to getting this guide more or less complete.
Hopefully, before too long, this compendium will be an easy to read,
comprehensive guide to finding and identifying all the badges found in 'Paper
Mario'. Note that I am compiling this guide as I play through the game, so all
badges will be added as I find them. This will slow the writing process down
considerably, but it will make for a more accurate guide than if I just copied
a list of all the badges in the game down from somewhere.
That having been said... Let's get to it.

II. WHAT'S A BADGE?
-------------------
In 'Paper Mario', a lot of Mario's power is derived from 'Badges', which are
items that can be 'worn' to give Mario special attacks, powers, or other such
bonuses. Each badge has a BP (Badge Point) Rating, which limits the number of
badges Mario can wear, as well as alluding to each specific badge's power (a 3
BP badge is probably better than a 1 BP badge). Mario only starts with the
ability to wear 3 BPs worth of badges, but players can increase that capability
as they level him up.
I strongly recommend reading your instruction manual to get the FULL story on
badges. No one ever reads those things anymore, anyhow.
III. BADGE LIST
---------------
For the main badge list, I'll be using a standard 'Badge Catalogue' format. It
goes a little something like this:
BADGE NAME
Description: I'll put down the in-game description.
Badge Points: This'll show how many Badge Points are required to wear the badge.
Location: The general area in which the badge is found.
Directions: I'll put short directions on how to acquire the badge.
OK, let's press on...
IIIA. JUMP ATTACK BADGES

NOT have a telltale crack in it like most bombable walls. Tricky, eh?

and run a few laps around the red palm, someone will tell you to stop because
you're making them dizzy. He'll also let slip that he heard if you Spin Jump
three times in a house with a spinning roof, you'll get something good. If you
go back to the Toad Town fortuneteller's place and Spin Jump three times, lo
and behold, this badge'll appear. If you're truly lazy, you CAN just skip to
the last part (spin jumping in the fortuneteller's) and still get the Badge. I
won't tell anyone.

right set of drawers to pull one out for use as a step, then climb up to the
second and already open drawer. At that point, use Parakarry to fly onto the
bed. You'll note that on the bedspread are six coins forming an arrow pointing
at the left wall. Grab them (if you want) and then jump from the pillow to the
head of the bed and then up to the shelf attached to the left wall. Walk

SPIKE SHIELD

Directions: Just above the treasure chest where the Super Hammer is found there
are two small overhangs on which Mario can walk. Get onto the first one, and
then carefully drop down to the second. From there, walk (running probably
isn't a wise idea) across to the far left wall and then walk directly into it

Club (he has green spots on his cap and a mustache), and he'll pass you some

and you'll get the badge.

outside on the house's balcony, hop over to the neighbouring house on the left.
Enter using the window and snag this badge from the chest within.
IV. BADGE HUNTING
-----------------
Let's face it, sometimes you need a little more than a short paragraph's help
to find a badge. That's what this section is for. In an effort to give you, the
reader, a hand in finding some of the more well-hidden badges in the game, I've
hammered out a few brief 'walkthroughs' which should lead you directly to the
badges stowed away in some of the more confusing areas of Paper Mario. So strap
on your bullwhip (or pistols) and grab your fedora (or tight-fitting tank top
and daisy dukes), because we're going badge hunting.
IVA. DRY DRY DESERT
-------------------
The Dry Dry Desert is an uninviting, 7-by-7 sand pit filled with Pokies and
Bandits. Why would you want to stay any longer than you have to? To pick up the
three badges hidden within its depths, of course.
Below is my crude attempt at a map and legend. Use it to trek through the
desert and pick up the three badges found within (Attack FX C, Runaway Pay and
Spin Attack).
X X R X X X X
X X X X P X X
M X X X S X X L D
X X X X X N X
X X X X B X O
X A X X X X X
X = 'Empty' desert. Might have a few '?' blocks with coins or items and
whatnot, but is most certainly not a point of interest as far as badges are
concerned.
M = Mt. Rugged. A fine place to run through, but bring your D-Down Pound badge.
D = Dry Dry Outpost. This is where you'll need to get the Pulse Stone from
Moustafa in order to advance in the game
R = Dry Dry Ruins. The nice thing about having a map here is now you'll be able
to mute the TV to drown out the annoying 'beep, beep' of the Pulse Stone while
you're trying to deliver the damn thing to its rightful place.
L = The last bit of road before Dry Dry Outpost. The 'L' stands for 'Letter';
you can snag one if you bash the rightmost tree with your Hammer.
O = The Oasis. Only place in the game to find Lemons and Limes. Mmmm.
A = The Attack FX C badge. Easy enough; run to this square and then jump up
from the stone in the center of the screen to find it contained in a hidden '?'
block.
S = Stone cacti. A placemarker for several different in-game directions, but if
you're lazy, you can hop in the tornado here to be instantly whisked to...
P = The Runaway Pay badge. In the upper right corner of this square is a
triangle of three trees. Hop up in the center of them to reveal the badge.
B = Blue cacti. The ONLY square in the desert with blue cacti, incidentally.
Hopping a ride with the tornado here whisks you to...
N = The Spin Attack badge. It's found in plain view on top of a large stone,
but you can ONLY get on top of that stone by riding the tornado in B.
And that about does it. Be sure to refill your canteen and shake the sand out
of your boots before reading on.
IVB. FOREVER FOREST
-------------------
Probably two of the more craftily hidden badges in the game, the FP Plus and HP
Plus badges found within the Forever Forest are either sources of great
frustration or are just passed over entirely by players. Since the forest is a
little complex, I've decided to piece together a short walkthrough which
details how to get through the forest, grab the badges and get out in one piece.
The Forever Forest has one 'main path' consisting of seven areas, and two
hidden 'branches' which each contain a badge. The trick to traversing the main
path is keeping an eye on the area's scenery and taking the path where it
appears to change. Below I've listed the 'keys' you're looking for to stay on
the correct path through the forest, as well as the keys necessary to get into
and out of the two hidden 'branch' areas'. Remember: If you choose the wrong
path, you'll end up back at the beginning of the Forest. And no one wants that.
Area #1 -- Laughing flowers (TO AREA #2)
Area #2 -- Glaring red eyes appearing within the hollow trunk in the background
(TO AREA #3)
Area #3 -- Four flowers, rather than three [they look different, too] (TO AREA
#4)
Area #4 -- Glowing red face on a tree [circle the area to find a Mystery Seed]
(TO AREA #5)
Area #5 -- Many mushrooms which light up in a crazy pattern when searched. (TO
AREA #6)
-- Three mushrooms which light up slightly longer than the others. (TO
BRANCH #1)
Area #6 -- Flowers that 'giggle and remain', rather than 'laugh and disappear'
(TO AREA #7)
Area #7 -- A large sign which directs you to Boo Mansion. (TO BOO MANSION)
-- A rock that develops a scary red face when searched. (TO BRANCH #2)
Branch #1 -- A bee hive [circle the area to find the HP Plus badge] (TO AREA #5)
Branch #2 -- A bush that pops flowers [circle the area to find the FP Plus
badge] (TO AREA #7)
Be sure to watch out for the Forest Fuzzies and Pirahna Plants while you're
wandering around; the Fuzzies' attack can be difficult to block.
