1. - LEGAL INFORMATION

2. - LEVEL 1 OVERVIEW
=====================
NAME: Chelsea
SYNOPSIS: Level 1 takes place in Chelsea - a park in London. Here you will be
introduced to low-class enemies such as Zombies, Werewolves and Gray Demons.
There are quite a few hidden items, so keep an eye open for any suspicious
places. An interesting level. You go from the public streets to the park itself
which, after the monster invasion, is rather eerie. It is a short level though,
so it probably won't take you long to finish.

3. - WALKTHROUGH
================
WALKTHROUGH: When you start, the following message will scroll vertically along
the screen:
"Nadia has received a strange note. 'Know about Crowley and the Brotherhood. HV'
An address to a workshop is written on the back. Find the door to the workshop!
There you will find out more about the Brotherhood."
Read it if you want, but be careful of the Zombie that is in front of you. Kill
it and run forward. Once you get to an old carriage, stop. Walk forward until
you can see a path to your right. Back up and run at the door, only to be
attacked by a Werewolf that was hiding behind the it. Quickly make worms meat
out of it. Before entering the newly-found passage, take notice of the large
door next to you - that you cannot open. Now enter the passage.
You will now be inside a laboratory area. Run forward, leaning a little bit to
the right, and you will come to another Zombie. Kill it and look at the wall to
see a switch with a skull on it. Hit the switch and you will see part of the
wall slide open, revealing a secret passage and another Werewolf. Kill the
Werewolf and enter the secret passage. Along the walls will be a few items, so
be sure to collect them. At the end of the passage, hit the lever that is on
the wall. This will make the door that you could not open before open - reveal-
ing a new part of the level.
Exit the passage and the laboratory room so you are back outside. To your right
will be the big door, but be careful, because a Zombie will be walking around.
Just stay where you are and wait for the Zombie to come to you - then kill it.
Now head straight and very soon afterwards a Werewolf will jump down from the
roofs! Kill it and head forward. When you come to a barrel blocking a gate,
take out your gun and shoot it. The barrel will explode, along with part of the
gate.
Walk through the gate and you are now in the park area! Head directly straight,
where you will come to a square statue with a Werewolf behind it! Kill the
Werewolf and turn left. Head straight until you get to some stairs. Walk down
them and turn right. You will find a Zombie. Kill it and walk onto the cement
ground. Head straight, past the steps to your left. Once you are at at the end
of the walkway, travel along the path to your left. Be careful because a Zombie
will be right there. Once you kill him and walk forward, another Werewolf will
lunge out - so kill it.
Now, keep on running straight until you come to a bat statue... or is it? Walk
near it to realize it is a Gray Demon! Kill it, but don't worry about the other
one - that is a real statue. Now turn left and run straight, past a path to
your left. You will come to two more Gray Demons, so kill them. Now look around
to see a Zombie standing in front of a large gate. Kill it and the gate will
open. Enter and walk forward until you finish the level!
Once you finish the level, the following message will scroll along the screen:
"The workshop is deserted but a note is pinned to the door: 'I couldn't wait.
Crowley suspicious. Brotherhood is meeting in Spitalfield. HV' Try to catch a
brotherhood member leaving the secret meeting."

4. - TIDBITS
============
TIDBITS:
1. - In the area near the end of the level (where you walked down the steps,
turned right, killed a Zombie and then walked onto concrete ground) if you take
the first left instead of continuing straight there is a statue of a Gargoyle,
later in the game known as true enemies. This is the only one in the game that
is not a true Gargoyle (I think).
2. - You know that big door that you had to hit the lever to open in the start
of the level? What I am wondering is: Do the people in London always have to
hit that lever just to get into Chelsea Park?
3. - Next to the first Gray Demon is a true statue of one - not an enemy. Al-
though there are two other statues of the Gray Demon at the beginning of the
level, it would make sense for this one to be the actual enemy, since it is
around all the other real ones. If you look at it from a basic point of view:
There are 3 statue Gray Demons, and 3 real-life Gray Demons.
4. - You know that Zombie at the end of the level? You don't really have to
KILL it. You can also just knock it out to open the gate. Either method will
work.

5. - ENEMY BIOGRAPHIES

Note: Some of the information in the following Enemy Biographies was obtained

their work word for word. I thoroughly read it, interpreted it, and put some of
it out in my own words in the following Biographies.

DESCRIPTION: What the Monster looks like.

NAME: Zombie
DESCRIPTION: A deformed human that resembles a Zombie. They have rotted skin,
exposed ribs showing through a moth-eaten white shirt, and they wear rotting
blue jeans and old brown shoes.
THE GAME: Zombies are the most basic Monster in the game. They are present in
many of the levels and are usually abundant. Although their usual repertoire of
attacks mainly focuses on individual combat, they are known to attack in groups
of two or more. It is because of this fickle indecision that makes Zombies such
an unpredictable Monster. Add to the fact that they show no remorse and can ab-
sorb large amounts of punishment before finally dying. The easiest way to kill
one is to slice it in half, or you will be wasting about 5-10 minutes beating
it up until it finally dies.
EXPANDED WORLD: When Adam Crowley invented these monsters, his main intention
was spreading fear and panic throughout London. He did just that. As rumors
began to spread that beings from the undead were roaming the streets, the
majority of the populus remained indoors. Since women were the majority that
stayed indoors, men were among the highest casualty percentage. The following
story is taken directly from the Nightmare Creatures official website. It is
one man's account of his witnessing of the "Zombies."
"I was awoken by a great racket outside. When I looked out of my window I saw
three workers beating a beggar that had apparently knocked a fourth worker to
the floor. Instead of fleeing, like one would have expected, the tramp fought
back (…) [The beggar] seemed struck with madness, screaming horribly and
fighting savagely, although bleeding from several wounds (…) In the afternoon
more of [these beggars] could be seen shambling along the street. My maid, who
had observed one from close by, was very afraid and begged me not to go outside
(…) [She said]: "These are not men, they are the Dead that have risen from
their graves"."
There are of course several other accounts people have claimed about the Zom-
bies, and you can read about those in Topic #5 (the next Topic).
The main body structure of the "Zombies" was the downfall of their attack. The
potion Adam Crowley had the poor subjects drink greatly affected the central
part of the brain and spinal cord, which made the Zombies very clumsy. But as
I said, they could withstand a great amount of damage, so that almost made
their lackadaisical clumsiness insignificant. Zombies could even continue to
live after having their heads and arms chopped off! Although Zombies were not
the biggest threat that Nadia and Ignatius faced, they were definitely a menace
that had to be terminated.

NAME: Werewolf
DESCRIPTION: A hairy beast with extremely sharp claws and fangs. Their glowing
yellow eyes are enough to paralyze a man where he stands. Their hunched backs
and overall skeletal structure enable them to reach excelled agility and speed,
which explains the many deaths that were down open London citizens by these
agile Monsters.
THE GAME: Werewolves are a little less common than Zombies, but they are as
much of a threat - if not more. Unlike Zombies, Werewolves primarily attack in-
dividually. However, usually Werewolves will within close proximity to each
other, so you can accidentally lead one Werewolf to another, causing a very
bad ambush on yourself. Strength-wise, Werewolves are not as strong as Zombies,
but since Werewolves are much more agile and quick then Zombies, it is a little
bit harder to do away with them. Also, Werewolves tend to block your moves more
than Zombies.
EXPANDED WORLD: You could say that Werewolves and Zombies form a destructive
partnership - at least in the eyes of Adam Crowley. You see, Crowley made diff-
erent monsters for different steps of his scheme. The Zombies and Werewolves,
for example, were used to spread fear and chaos throughout London, and to try
and keep the streets clean of any passersby - or citizens, for that matter.
Werewolves also like to ambush their adversaries, usually hiding in places the
unsuspecting victims would never even glance at - like on top of roofs.
Despite their seemingly positive status, Werewolves were simply people who had
to endure Crowley's experiments. These people suffer from lycanthropy, which
is a disease caused by a retrovirus (thanks to the Nightmare Creatures site for
that info). The virus alters a person's DNA, causing them to be half-human and
half-animal. Unfortunately, this disease destroy vital organs like the spleen
and liver, so these Werewolves would only live for about a week, anyway.

NAME: Gray Demon
DESCRIPTION: Posing as a statue of a bat, these winged creatures will suddenly
"come to life" and begin attacking. They are silver-colored, allowing them to
look metal (causing the statue realism).
THE GAME: The Gray Demons appear on one level - Level 1, and there are only 3
of them. With this such small number, you would wonder why Crowley would even
waste his time creating them. However, the few that exist will deal SOME damage
if you under-estimate them. They spit fire, which is easily avoidable. Overall,
they are an extremely easy enemy and you will have no trouble destroying them.
EXPANDED WORLD: Adam Crowley failed with this attempt. He tried to create an
airborne creation but the body plan proved too complex for the Gray Demons to
survive, which explains the limited amount in the game. Crowley later made an-
other attempt to make a similar flying demon (the Red Demon).

6. - WEAPONS/ITEMS BIOGRAPHIES
==============================
KEY:

DESCRIPTION: What it looks like.
MONSTERS: I will list the four most common monsters (in my opinion) and list
whether or not you should attack them with the specified weapon (of course,
I will not do this for a regular item).
THE GAME: Info on the weapon/item only attained from the game.
EXPANDED WORLD: Info on the weapon/item that I made up (will be funny).

HEART:
DESCRIPTION: Not the love-shaped heart, this thing is a real-life heart (which
ventricles and arteries).
THE GAME: When you collect these, you will be rewarded with an extra life.
EXPANDED WORLD: What can I say? It's a human heart!

GUN:
DESCRIPTION: A long gun with a silver, metal barrel and wooden handle.
MONSTERS:
Werewolves: Yes
Pepy's Monsters: Yes
Dockers: No
Zombies: No
THE GAME: This is one of the most common weapons in Nightmare Creatures. In
fact, you begin the game with it, along with a Healing Orb! Its reloading time
is slow, but the bullet travels extremely quickly.
EXPANDED WORLD: This basic weapon is a common choice among thieves and robbers
in London. Its murky colors blend in well with meticulously-chosen oufits for
the job. The bullet's speed is unparalleled, but the reloading time can be a
nuisance.

MINI-HEALING ORB:
DESCRIPTION: A small, glowing white/beige orb. It looks like a mini-galaxy -
like the ones in Men In Black. :)
THE GAME: When you use a Mini-Healing Orb, it will replenish about 1/3 of your
lost health. I recommend only using this when you must, because although they
are fairly common, you will run out quickly if you are not frugal.
EXPANDED WORLD: The mystery to many is of how the Mini-Healing Orb does its
magic. It is actually pretty simple: The person who wants to use the Orb must
take a deep whiff of it. By doing this, small particles inside the Orb are in-
gested into the person's body. These particles have the uncanny ability to
speed up the body's healing process by 3,000%! Plus, the particles release a
mysterious chemical 10 times stronger than sugar - so even though the particles
are that small, they emit a stimulant that is about as strong as a big cup of
coffee. Ergo, anyone who uses one of these Orbs immediately feels replenished.
The only downside is that although the orb speeds the healing process phenomen-
onally, it is only capable of healing about 33% of the person. Therefore, a few
Orbs will be needed if a person is really in trouble.

HEALING ORB:
DESCRIPTION: A large, glowing pink orb. Like the Mini-Healing Orb, it resembles
a mini-galaxy.
THE GAME: These Orbs are the rarest of the two, but that's because they are a
lot stronger than a Mini-Healing Orb. It is better to use one of these when
your health is low than to use two or three Mini-Healing Orbs.
EXPANDED WORLD:The Healing Orbs are MUCH stronger than the Mini-Healing Orbs.
These Orbs can replenish about 175% of a person's health, making these a very
treasured item. The Healing Orb works the same as its predecessor, except it
is able to heal up to 175% of the person's body, instead of just 33%!

REPELLENT POTION:
DESCRIPTION: A green, hazy potion inside a triangularly-shaped bottle.
THE GAME: I don't use these very much, but you might. When you use it, any ene-
mies that are nearby will turn away from you - until the potion wears off. When
you do use it, the potion appears as a light fog on the ground. It lasts for
about 30 seconds, before disappearing into the night. Then, the enemies will
start to attack again.
EXPANDED WORLD: The Repellent Potion is a very interesting item. The potion
itself contains many chemicals that are used to repel the monsters. For
instance, the monsters in Nightmare Creatures are carnivores. One of the many
chemicals inside the potion give off a strong herbal essence, fooling the mon-
sters into thinking you are more of a plant than a meal. Also, the potion emits
a chemical that makes the light seem much more bright to the monsters, which is
why: A. - They turn away, and B. - Even if they didn't, they wouldn't be able
to see you since they are blinded. There are a few other chemicals in the
potion, and all of them help to repel the beasts.

MINE:
DESCRIPTION: A circular, dark green ball with prongs sticking out of it.
MONSTERS:
Werewolves: Yes
Pepy's Monsters: No
Dockers: Yes
Zombies: No
THE GAME: Actually a rather uncommon weapon. You are lucky to receive it in
Level 1. When you throw it, it will remain stationary. Once an enemy walks near
it or on it, it will explode, dealing a large amount of damage to the enemy.
EXPANDED WORLD: The mine is one of the most innovative weapons invented. Some
wonder how it is able to know the difference between you and something else -
since when you walk near it or on it, it won't blow up. The answer is because
of the special make of the mine, described below:
Inside the mine is a complex system of intertwining wires and circuitry. Before
one must lay a Mine down, they must press the top-most prong (bigger than the
others). By doing this, the Mine takes in that person's fingerprint and is able
to identify their DNA statistics and is able to "smell" the person. Once that
main prong is activated, there is no deactivating. This makes it possible for
the person who is using the mine to even step on it without it exploding. But
once the Mine senses an unknown entity... BOOM!
Now the way the Mine explodes is simple: There is a tiny sac in the central core
of the Mine that contains thousands of atoms. When the Mine senses an unknown
entity, wires from the Main Prong deliver a message to the central core, thus
activating a chain reaction which causes the atoms to collide at a force so
great, that they cause a nuclear combustion, forming the blast. You could think
of it as a Mini-Atom Bomb.

7. - SECRETS
============
This topic will be based on any hidden weapons/items.
1. - In the beginning of the level, turn around to see a partially ajar door.
Kick it open and kill the Zombie. Walk to the end of the hall and break open
the box to find a Healing Orb.
2. - When you exit the hallway mentioned in the above secret, look to your
right to see a door blocked off by a barrel. Shoot the barrel and the door will
explode. Enter the hallway to find three boxes. Break them all open to reveal
a Gun and a Mine.
3. - Once you are back on the normal track (right at the start of the level)
there will be a box to your left. Break it open to reveal a Mini-Healing Orb.
4. - To the left of the box you broke in the above secret, you will see a
window. Break it open to find a Mini-Healing Orb and a Gun.
5. - When you are inside Chelsea Park and have just walked down some steps, a
Zombie should be to your right. If you are at this location, there will be a
wall to your left. Walk near it and a Werewolf will jump out - kill it. Now
walk around the wall and you will find another Mini-Healing Orb.
6. - At the end of the level, do not enter the gate. Instead, head left until
you come to a ledge. Jump onto it and walk around to the other side of the
fence, where you will see a tunnel. Enter it and follow it until you reach a
Zombie. Kill it and look in the corner to find a Repellent Potion.
7. - From where you are in the above secret, continue along the tunnel and you
will reach a Healing Orb and a Heart.

8. - GLITCHES
=============
1. - Sometimes, if you jump, swing your sword while in the air and hold A and
B as you land, Nadia's upper body will be all distorted. I have never tried
this with Ignatius, so I don't know if it works with him. To make it go away,
stop moving.
2. - One time, inside the laboratory area, I hit the Skull Switch and it didn't
move into the wall - but the secret passage was revealed. Afterwards, even if I
hit the switch, nothing would happen, as if it was in the wall like normal.
3. - Sometimes when you chop up an enemy, a body part will fly into an endless
void caused by an odd set of polygonal lines. Sometimes the body part will re-
appear seconds later, bouncing up and down before finally settling. And other
times the body part will be gone forever. (This is a prime example of a pro-
gramming glitch).
4. - If you jump onto the ledges at the end of the level, you can actually have
Nadia standing OFF of the ledge and over the water, but she won't fall! If you
move TOO far out she will, though.
==============
9. - MYSTERIES
==============
Here I will list the things I have noticed in Level 1 that are pretty weird.
There are only three, but I think you'll like them. Below is a key for the
Mysterious Rating each one will receive.
* = Practically not even a mystery.
** = Minute amount of mysteriousness.
*** = Not quite a mystery, but it may make you start to wonder.
**** = A mystery, but it probably has no importance.
***** = A regular mystery that may or may not have importance.
****** = A mystery that most likely might have some kind of importance.
******* = A mystery that will really spark your curiosity.
******** = A very mysterious mystery.
********* = An extremely peculiar, mysterious and interesting mystery.
********** = This mystery has a very high chance of being involved with a very
hidden and unknown secret.
Ok, now that that is done, here we go!
MYSTERY #1: "Mystery of the Gray Demons":
INFORMATION: You may have noticed an interesting thing about the Gray Demons in
Level 1. In the very beginning there are two Gray Demon statues - real statues.
At the end of the level, there are four more Gray Demon statues - three of
which are actually real Gray Demons posing as statues. What is weird is that
the fourth one in Chelsea Park (end of the level) is a real statue. It just
seems odd that the three others would be real enemies, and the fourth one just
a regular statue. I would not think of it as a mystery of the last four were
real enemies and the two in the beginning of the level were statues. But it is
the "fickleness" of the live enemies/real statues that makes this a mystery.
SUGGESTION: My first suggestion is really stupid, but here it is: Since there
are six total Gray Demons (real live ones plus statues), the programmers just
felt like having an even number so they made three real enemies and three real
statues. << I don't like that idea. My other suggestion (which I do like) is
that at the end of the level, since the real statue is first seen immediately
after the first real Gray Demon, the programmers wanted to trick you into
thinking that the first Gray Demon is the only real one in the level, since
when you walked up to the next statue, it didn't attack. Then, when you go up
to the last two statues, you get "surprised" when they attack. << Plausible,
but probably unlikely.
MYSTERIOUS RATING: ****

MYSTERY #2: "Mystery of the Sewers":
INFORMATION: In the beginning of the level, when you are first attacked by a
Werewolf and travel into a laboratory area (that contains a Zombie and a hidden
passage), sewer covers can be seen on the floor, rusted and rotted. Were these
just added for detail, or are they part of some unknown secret?
SUGGESTION: My only guess is that the programmers added these in not only for
detail, but for realism. They probably wanted you to think that they were the
sewer covers for the sewers you are in during Level 3. If not for that reason,
they probably just included them to make the laboratory area seem old and
abandoned.
MYSTERIOUS RATING: *

MYSTERY #3: "Mystery of the Sessile Gargoyle"
INFORMATION: Near the end of the level, in the Chelsea Park area, you can visit
a statue of a Gargoyle. Every other time these statues appear in the game, they
"come to life" revealing themselves to be true Gargoyles. Why is this statue
the only one in the game that is a true statue and not a Gargoyle?
SUGGESTION: I think the statue has two probably purposes: 1. - To scare you,
and make you think that if you come near it, it will attack you; and 2. - To
hint at the fact that later in the game you will face that same statue but as
a real-life monster. You could also suggest that after walking up to the statue
of the Gargoyle, and then being attacked by the statue of a Gray Demon, that
that hints at the fact that the Gargoyle statue will come to life later in the
game.
