1. Introduction

Welcome to my NBA Showtime FAQ. If you are reading this FAQ you are
probably aware that I have made quality FAQs for NFL Blitz, NBA 2K, and NFL
2K. So why would I leave out this great sports game for Dreamcast? NBA
Showtime is a great game. It is one of my favorite basketball games of all
time. If you are debating on getting this game, I would highly suggest you
get it.

January 15 2000 - I decided to make this FAQ for Nintendo 64 and Playstation
also. I have updated almost every part of this FAQ so make sure you check

NBA Showtime is a very straight forward basketball port.
Create A Player
A great mode for creating players and seeing their ranks. Customize their
attributes to fit your needs.
Regular Game
The only other mode. Play with 1-4 players.

You can set the controls in this game as you wish. Here I have listed my

Cheat mode (match-up screen): Press Turbo, Shoot, and Pass at the "Tonight's
Match-Up" screen to enable the corresponding code:. The numbers in the

6. Personal Review

When I first heard about NBA Showtime I thought it would suck. I wasn't
going to purchase it over NBA 2K. So I bought NBA 2K. Weeks rolled by and
then I had to make out my Christmas list. I decided to put NBA Showtime on
it. On Christmas morning, I got it. Ever since I first opened it, it's
been my favorite basketball game. I even like it better than NBA 2K.
Gameplay: 10/10 - The fastest basketball game you can ever play. I can play
games in about 5 minutes with all the fun I would have in NBA 2K. You can
create your own player, put in a lot of codes, unlock secret options, and
try having your name on top of the leader board. A great game.
Graphics - 8/10 - The courts look nice. The players look really nice except
they are really oversized. There are player intros in the game. Not as
good as graphics as NBA 2K.
Sound - 10/10 - I love the NBA music. They take the same music from the
basketball games on NBC. Also, the announcer isn't bad.
Replay Value - 10/10 - You can play for hours against either the computer or
against friends. First you have to defeat all the teams. After you
complete the game, you can still upgrade your person's attributes. This
game will never get old.
Overall - 10/10 - One of the best, if not the best basketball game I have
played in my life. Make sure you buy this game. If you are deciding to get
NBA 2K or this get both. You can't really match them up.

7. Review (Nintendo 64)

This game had me shuddering for all of the two hours I played it. How could
they take a great arcade game and literally destroy it on the N64 platform?
Gameplay-wise, its mostly there.. but there are some serious bugs in this
game that need to be addressed.
Graphics: 4
The least they could have done was have high-res mode for all of the RAM-Pak
owners. This game looks so horrendous in low-res that even the
three-year-old sprite-based NBA Hangtime looks better than this. and to add
to the overkill, the game chugs along at below 30fps.
Sound: 5
Hey, at least they got the NBA on NBA intro correct. They must have been
subsidizing costs on game cart ROM, because all of the players' names are
omitted in this version. All you hear are random remarks a-la NBA Jam on
SNES/Genesis platforms.
Presentation: 2
The first thing that had me gritting my teeth was: How in the world could
they have forgotten the players names above the turbo bar during gameplay? I
find it laughable, because how in the HELL would you know who you're playing
against when you can't even recognize him? (OK, long complaint). Also, in
the Create-A-Player mode, i see a fill-in for player jersey #. What the hell
point is that, when the players have no jersey #'s during gameplay? Also, no
replays, free-throw shooting meter is WAY too fast in contrast to the
arcade, game speed is not correctly proportionate to the arcade game, and
the game is just too "dark". There are many other small problems with this
game which are too many to list.

Well, it ain't the arcade game, but if you can overlook all those rushed
omissions, the game is still NBA Showtime. if you're not an arcade/console
purist, you will appreciate the increased speed in the game, and fairly
responsive controls.
Value: 5
If you loved sticking quarters in the arcade machine, and you dont have a
Dreamcast, I would suggest trying to find it secondhand on Ebay, or at a
used game dealer... but this game is NOT worth the 50-60 dollars new.
Overall: 6
If I wasn't such a freak of the NBA Jam series (all of the games that
resemble them) I would have probably given this game a 4 or a 5. But I do
enjoy this game, forgiving all of its flaws and omissions, but hopefully a
few people will read this review and realize this game is NOT the arcade
game by all means. If you have a Dreamcast, by all means, get that version.
