The many modes of Madden football. This covers the main ideas of every
possible mode in this game. You'll first need to pick your Game Type, either:

EAsy Play (You can begin a game real quickly with the default options,
rosters, teams, and choices. This will allow you to pick two teams for
competition, and then choose who will control each team. Very basic, this is
meant for people who just want to pick up a game and play!)

or

Normal Play (This is the default mode in Madden NFL 2002. This lets you pick
any of the following options..)

Play Now
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick Game This is much like EAsy mode. You can pick two teams, and
who controls them. Not much more.

Two Minute Drill In this mode, you have two minutes to score as many points
as possible, following most normal NFL rules. You start
on your own 20-yardline, and must score in two minutes. If
you do, you'll start back at the 20-yardline, with time
elapsed, ready for you to try again. See how many times
you can score in two minutes!

Training Mode This is a very cool mode, one that I recomend you trying.
If you want to earn lots of Madden Tokens easily, while
at the same time fooling around with some cool plays and
learning the basics of football, then this is the mode for
you!

Game Modes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exhibition This is a standard game of football. You'll be able to use
any profiles, Madden Cards, rosters, teams, or whatever, in
this mode. Great for playing with a friend.

Season Pick a team, or teams, and play with them through one
entire season, while dealing with statistics, injuries,
salary cap problems, and other duties. You can choose to
do a draft all of the NFL players, or you can play as a
current NFL team.

Franchise The heart and soul of Madden, this is where the game is at.
Hardcore football fans will love Franchise, where you
pick a team, or teams, and guide them through thirty years
of NFL football. It runs much like Season, with the
exception of it's length, thirty years. You'll get new
rookies every year, too. Very fun, highly recomended!

Tournament Stage your own Playoffs quickly, and easily. You pick
four, eight, or sixteen teams, and pit them against
one another in single, or double, elimination matches.

Custom League Start your own NFL league of four to sixteen teams. You
can customize the schedule format, among other options.

Practice Practice any aspect of football, from punts to runs to
kickoffs. It's fun, but not overly useful.

Situation Relive Super Bowl 25 and give the Bills one more chance to
kick the gamewinning field goal, or create any situation
you can think of. You can decide the teams, the score, the
quarter, the time remaining, the down, the line of
scrimage, the number of timeouts, and more, of the game.

Options
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Madden Cards View, sell, use, trade, or buy Madden Cards. There are
329 to collect. For a complete list, check the other
sections of this FAQ.

Rosters Create a new player, order the depth charts, edit existing
NFL players, sign and release players, and make trades.
You can do it all in the Rosters section. You can save as
many rosters as you want, too. Very good area to explore.

Create-A-Team Choose from thousands of combinations of logos and colors,
and make your own NFL team. Choose where they play, their
name, and even their stadium! Work with the uniform to
make it suitable, editing the helmet colors and stripes,
the uniform numbering, strips, and colors, and much, much
more. If you can dream it, you can make it.

User Profiles View, edit, create, and manage the users on Madden 2002.
You can look at your best stats, how you do versus another
user, and much more. Definitly worth exploring, you can
even set your audibles.

Settings Change NFL rules, quarter lengths, difficulties, and much
more. Check a later section for complete information.

This will look at all of the settings you can possibly pick in Madden!
For more info on certain settings, look under the appropriate heading in the
Table of Contents at the top.

Home Team
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the team that is "home", which usually means you'll be playing in the
home team's stadium. The crowd is in your favor when you are the Home Team.

Away Team
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The visiting team, or Away Team, is the opposite to the Home Team. The crowd
is NOT in your favor, but you will get to choose between Heads or Tails at the
coin toss.

Play For Tokens
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes you can choose this option. It basically means that you can earn
tokens while doing the activity you selected. If you want tokens, turn it on..

Difficulty
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Choose from ROOKIE, PRO, ALL-PRO, and ALL-MADDEN. Each one becomes
increasingly difficulty. The All-Pro setting is recomended for normal game
play after you become accustomed to the game.

Profile
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This lets you choose a user profile, or login name. Make one for yourself,
and it will record your wins, losses, yards, and much more. You can also earn
Madden Tokens by making a profile.

Stadium Select
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This lets you pick a stadium to play in, and some options that go with it...
The City listing tells you the city it's in, the State listing tells you what
state it is in, the Capacity tells you how many tickets can be sold for one
game, and the Surface tells you what kind of field it is--grass or turf. When
you finish, just select PREVIEW to preview it.

Stadium Select - Team

Choose what team's default stadium you want to play in.

Choose between DAY, AFTERNOON, DUSK, and NIGHT. Each one has different
effects. Domed stadiums do not take in consideration the time of day, it
seems.

Choose Random, or Custom. If you select Random, you'll get random weather for
the specific stadium. For example, you won't even get snow in Arizona, unless
you customize it for snow...

You can edit the temperature outside, the fog, the rain/snow, and the wind. To
make it snow, make the temperature low, and precipitation high. Toy with the
settings to get some good weather.

How many teams you want to control, up to thirty-one teams.

Trade Deadline

NOTES: The numbers 90 to 99 are reserved for any defensive
position that needs an extra number. For example, Warren Sapp
is number 99. Also, it is now seemingly acceptable for a
wide receiver to be a number in the tens (#10 to 19). An
example of this is Keyshawn Johnson, #19. If you can not create
the player's number as you want it, you can always edit it later
under the edit menu.
Years Pro How many years the player has been in the NFL; 18 year olds
must be rookies, 19 year olds can be rookies or 1 year, 20 year
olds can be rookies, 1 year, or 2 years; etc
Hand What hand the athlete uses primarily
Height How tall the player is from 5'5'' to 7'0''
Weight How much the player weighs from 160 lbs. to 415 lbs.
Skins Light, Medium, or Dark skin
Hair Color The player's hair color
Hair Style The player's hair style
Face The player's face
Face Shape The player's shape of his face

Overall Build How big the player seems in general
Waist Build How wide the player is
Muscle Build How much muscle a player has
Fat Build How much fat a player has
Shape Build How big the player's rear is
Thigh Muscle.. How much muscle is on the player's thigh

As you play a franchise, the game increases the ratings of some players.
This is some information about some of the players who increased, decreased,

none of this is "official" and it might change for you. This is just a few
examples from a bunch of simulated franchises, your results WILL VARY, but alot
of this information will be useful.
