Released in Japan only on April 28th 1998, this is a horse racing Konami
Computer Entertainment Nagoya. It is part of Konami's "実況 Live" series which
includes International Star Soccer, Power Pro Wrestling, Power Pro Baseball,
Major League, and Talking Parodius. It is likely a sequel to their game; Live
Horse Racing Simulation: Stable Star released in 1996 on the Super Famicom.

Of course much like any other country, horse racing has been a part of Japanese
culture for centuries. However a group of British residents organised the first
European style horse race in 1862 on some marshland outside Yokohama, not long
after Japan finally opened itself back up to foreign trade. The sport gradually
grew in popularity, the Emperor Meiji himself was a regular visitor to the main
track.

There are three types of horse racing popular in Japan - flat racing, jump
racing, and Ban'ei Racing in which the horses must pull sleds up sand slopes.
Over 21,000 races are held every year to the delight of gamblers across the
country. The most prominent race is the Japan Cup a 2,400 meter long race which
has a grand prize of around 5.6 million dollars.

Arguably the most famous horse in Japanese horse racing history was Deep Impact.
He won won seven Japanese Domestic Grade 1 races, including all races of
Japanese Triple Crown. In 2006 he came third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in
France, a race which many Japanese fans travelled around the world to see.
However, two weeks later he tested positive for the drug Ipratropium, and was
retired. He was crowned the Japanese Champion Sire from 2012 to 2020 and sired
many successful horses. In 2019, he suffered a neck injury and sadly had to be
put down, the 2019 Japan Cup was renamed the Deep Impact Memorial Cup in his
honour.
