1. What is I. Track & Field 2000? AAA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Track & Field is a long-running series of Olympic-style sports games. In the
vein of classics like Fila Decathlon the player has to compete in various
rather short events requiring him to either tap certain buttons as fast as he
can or time a press of a button as perfectly as possible or even perform a
combination of both. International Track & Field 2000 (or International Track
& Field: Summer Games in Europe) sticks to this formula adding just some nice
visuals and some voice acting to the formula.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Controls BBB
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The controls differ for most events so you find the controls in the
description of the events.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. General Info and Hints CCC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All nations play the same.
Find a controller position that both feels comfortable to you and is
effective. You don't stand a chance by simply holding the controller the
normal way so try my recommendations and eventually come up with your own way
of playing.
Don't bother about other competitors on the track. E.g. even though you see a
runner in 100 m dash finishing with 10.19 seconds there will never be anybody
having a time of 10.19 seconds. Even the guy you saw will have a different
time in the point calculation list.
The results for every event are always the same. You will for example always
have a competitor in Long Jump who gets 8.20 meters, one that has 8.03 meters,
one that has 7.50 meters and so on. Still you mustn't remember e.g. which
score Germany has in High Jump and think that Germany will have the same
score in this event the next time you play Championship Mode, because the
countries change, so the score Germany had, might go over to Kenya for
example.
I will still list the scores of your competitors for every event. Of course I
cannot tell you which country gets which score, but at least you can
calculate which score you might need to be on the safe side in the battle for
gold and you can also deduce which heights or lengths you have to reach for a
certain score.
The qualification score is trivial. Every event has a QS, but as far as I
know it doesn't matter if you reach it or get below it. The only thing it can
tell you most of the time is how good you have to be to come in third place,
but this even doesn't go for every event.
Use old controllers (except for when attempting Trap Shooting). The Hammer
Throw is very likely to ruin any control stick and since an already worn-out
stick works well enough, you better not endanger any new sticks.
When having to mash two buttons repeatedly, it doesn't matter if you
accidentally press either button two times in a row, so don't decrease your
speed by trying to perfectly match the motion of both fingers.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.1 100m Dash=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=DD1
General Difficulty: ***OO
It can be hard at first but after a while you should do pretty well.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ***OO
Once you get the hang of button mashing this shouldn't cause much trouble.
World Record Difficulty: ****O (9.97 seconds)
Pretty hard to do. Great button mashing on its own isn't sufficient, so you
need to keep something else in mind: Play 100m Dash in Trial Mode and try to
expect when the run begins. Starting the button input just before the Go
signal doesn't result in a false start and it may give you the small extra
boost you were lacking.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively
______
Rules:|
Wait for the Go signal to start hammering on the buttons. Pressing too early
results in a false start with two false starts leading to a disqualification.
______
Hints:|
I suggest laying down the controller in front of you and looking down on it.
Keep both index fingers either over the A and B button or over C Right and C
Left. As soon as you hear the Go signal, press either button and then look up
and start mashing both buttons. The faster you are, the higher goes the power
bar in the lower left corner of the screen. Even when it is filled up
completely you better keep on hammering, as you can still build up more speed.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.2 Long Jump=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=DD2
General Difficulty: **OOO
Easy to understand and easy to time.
Gold Medal Difficulty: **OOO
Once you perform well in Long Jump you probably rank in first all the time.
World Record Difficulty: **OOO (8.95 metres)
Later on you will probably surpass the custom World Record every time you
play Long Jump.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
Z or L or R
To jump
______
Rules:|
Run towards the white and green line from where you need to jump off towards
the sand bunker. You get three tries with only the best one counting. Leaping
off from the green line or even further, results in a foul which is the same
as jumping 0.00 metres in a try.
______
Hints:|
Build up your speed until the speed bar turns completely red (of course you
need to go on pressing the run buttons). I recommend having your right index
finger on C Left and the right middle finger on C Right while tilting the
controller a bit to the right and letting it rest on your lab or on anything
else. Have your left index finger rest on the Z button. Now wait for your
athlete to reach the white line or at least to come really close to it, press
Z and hold it to determine the angle of your jump. Try to release the Z
button when the orange arc reaches the white line for the best result.
Sometimes you are lucky enough for your athlete to step right onto the white
line without touching the green one, allowing for a potentially great jump,
but sometimes you have to jump off a few inches before the white line or else
you would end in a foul. Keep that in mind.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.3 Horizontal Bar=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD3
General Difficulty: ***OO
You should quickly perform rather well, yet sometimes small mistakes are hard
to avoid and might cost you some points.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ***OO
It is very easy to get the gold medal once, but doing it every time you try
is a different thing.
Competition Record Difficulty: ***OO (9.85 points)
I also always beat the World Record in 100m Freestyle so you see it is really
easy to do.
_________
Controls:|
Any Button to start (the game says you would have to press Z which is wrong)
Z or L or R
To start a performance
C Buttons or Digital Pad or Analog Stick
To perform
______
Rules:|
Carry out eight performances on the horizontal bar. Start this by pressing Z,
L or R when the bar on the lower left is inside the yellow section or at
least close to it. Then input the button combination on the right within the
time limit.
______
Hints:|
This is one of the few games where you can hold the controller the normal way.
Keep focused on the lower left section where the bar rises and hit Z as soon
as it is inside the yellow section. This section is generated randomly,
without any difference in the amount of points you can make with it. Just
watch out when it appears at the right end: When it does, it is way smaller
than usually and you can easily hesitate a bit too long, hence completely
messing up one of the eight performances. So unless you are aiming for a
perfect score, you might consider stopping the bar even a bit before it
reaches the yellow part, just to make sure you actually get to carry out the
performance. This still makes you lose some points, but at least way less
than when completely missing the performance.
You might wonder what the letters (X, A, B, C, D) in the lower centre mean:
Don't bother. They only determine the difficulty of the performance so Konami
could just as well have left out the letter display.
Once you've hit Z you have to input a random button combination which should
be done with the C buttons: The Control Stick can be too unresponsive at
times and the Digital Pad works just as well as the C buttons but it requires
a very rarely used (an somewhat odd) controller position. End the performance
within the time limit shown below and don't worry if you've pressed a wrong
button once. As long as you hit all buttons you don't get penalized.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.4 Pole Vault=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD4
General Difficulty: ***OO
This requires some serious button mashing as well as good timing. After a
while the Pole Vault is extremely easy, but it is quite complicated at first.
Gold Medal Difficulty: **OOO
Once you've got the hang of the Pole Vault, obtaining the Gold Medal is
pretty easy.
World Record Difficulty: ***OO (6.14 metres)
The World Record seems impossible to reach when playing the Pole Vault for
the first few times. Soon, though, you realize that it's fairly easy in fact.
It requires some serious button mashing as well as a good timing, but nothing
too frustrating.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
Z or L or R
To get up on the pole
Z or L or R
To get over the bar without touching it
______
Rules:|
Get over a bar with three tries. You can determine the height of the bar with
the lowest possible being at 4.50 metres. If you miss a height three times,
the best height you've succeeded in counts as your result. Beating a height
resets your fault counter and it gives you the possibility of setting a new
height. The new one has to be at least one cm higher than the one before and
it can be 1 metre higher than the one before, but not more than that. So e.g.
if you've beaten the 4.76 metres bar the next one can be anything between
4.77 and 5.76 metres. The highest possible bar hangs at 7.00 metres.
______
Hints:|
I recommend holding the controller the same way as in the Long Jump: Tilt it
a bit to the right side, lay it onto your leg or something else, have your
right index and middle finger rest on C Left, respectively C Right, and keep
your left index finger at the Z button. Build up as much speed as possible
until the speed bar turns dark red or else the vault itself becomes
increasingly more difficult. After a while your athlete starts the vault.
This is when you need to watch the mid-bar and to press Z when the orange bar
reaches the small differently-colored section at the arrow. Repeat for the
green bar. As long as you make the colored bars stop within the special
section you can be sure about having succeeded. The higher the bar, the
smaller the special sections and the longer the speed bar, and the less speed
you have built up the shorter are the special sections. So make sure to find
out how much speed you can surely build up to find the heights you can
definitely beat. Once you've done that you can heighten the bar in small
steps (in case you have the time and motivation you should only heighten it
one cm at a time) and see how far you can get.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.5 Hammer Throw-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD5
General Difficulty: ***OO
It is somewhat hard to build up enough strength for a good throw and it's
easy to miss the correct timing. Still you should do rather well in at least
two out of the three tries you're given.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ***OO
Maybe you won't get it every time you try, but most of the time you should
find yourself on the first place or at least close behind. Just don't play
this event too often or you'll regret it. Trust me.
World Record Difficulty: ***OO and a half (86.74 metres)
After a few tries you should be able to beat the World Record, but don't
expect to be able to repeat it numerous times: Performing well in the Hammer
Throw means to lay aside any self preservation concerning your palm, thus
later on your palm can't stand any great hammer throws anymore and you'll
have to rethink your strategy.
_________
Controls:|
Control Stick in a 360 degree motion
To spin
Z or L or R
To stop swinging and to determine the angle of the throw
______
Rules:|
Like in the Long Jump you are given three tries with only the best one
counting. Throw the hammer as far as possible and watch out not to toss it
out of the designated area or else it counts as a foul, hence as a 0.00
metres throw.
______
Hints:|
For the Hammer Throw I suggest putting the controller down on the right leg,
laying your right palm on the control stick and your left index finger on the
L button. Rub your palm on the control stick in a circular motion to fill the
spin meter and to turn it red eventually. This is sure to hurt after a while
so definitely make sure not to play this event too often or else you should
move your hand up or down a bit which spares your hand but also lowers your
possible score...and I thought my hand could live an easy life after having
beaten Mario Party 1. Oh well.
As you spin you'll see a counter going down from 5 to 0. When it has reached
zero and the red dot returns to the upper centre of the circle you have to
press and hold down L. This fills up an orange arc a bit to the right. Stop
pressing L when the arc has reached the white line for the best result. You
don't necessarily have to press L when the red dot is right at the centre,
but at least close to it and within the grey section of the circle or else
you'll get a foul. The closer to the centre you are, though, the better is
the throw.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.6 100m Freestyle=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD6
General Difficulty: *OOOO
By far the easiest event and a lot easier than the 100m Dash as you have lots
of time to compensate a somewhat late start.
Gold Medal Difficulty: *OOOO
I always won with a comfortable lead and so will you probably.
World Record Difficulty: *OOOO (48.52 seconds)
After a few tries you should be able to beat the World Record, but don't
expect to be able to repeat it numerous times: Performing well in the Hammer
Throw means to lay aside any self preservation concerning your palm, thus
later on your palm can't stand any great hammer throws anymore and you'll
have to rethink your strategy.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively
______
Rules:|
Pretty much the same as the 100m Dash. Start when you hear the signal;
starting beforehand results in a false start with two false starts leading to
a disqualification. Just remember that the pool measures 50m, meaning that
the race doesn't end upon reaching the other end of the pool. Instead you
have to turn (automatically) and swim another line.
______
Hints:|
Like in the 100m Dash you should lay down the controller in front of you and
put both index fingers on C Right, respectively C Left. Look at the
controller and listen to the starting signal. This way your concentration is
a bit higher than when watching the starting preparation and beginning to
button mash when you see the start instead of hearing it. Repeatedly press C
Right and Left to fill up your speed meter and you should have no problems.
The only problem I always use to have here is that I tend to stop breathing
so I don't get interrupted in mashing the buttons by a motion of my body. ^^
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.7 110m Hurdles-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-DD7
General Difficulty: *****
By far the most difficult event available from the start.
Gold Medal Difficulty: *****
Can be really, really frustrating.
World Record Difficulty: ***** (12.91 seconds)
Hard. Just hard.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
Z or L or R
To jump
______
Rules:|
Start running after the Go signal and try to reach the finish line as soon as
possible. On your way you will have to jump over hurdles. Starting before the
Go signal is a false start and two false starts mean disqualification.
______
Hints:|
Hold the controller like in the Long Jump and in the Pole Vault: Tilt the
controller to the right, lay it down on your leg, have the right index and
middle finger mash C Right and C Left and push Z with your left index finger.
Basically the 110m Hurdles is the same as the 100m Dash (but a bit longer of
course) with an extremely annoying twist: The hurdles. You have to press Z to
jump over a hurdle which sounds way easier than it really is. Your timing has
to be very precise or else you don't jump at all making you lose lots of
speed or you jump off badly, still hitting the hurdle and losing a bit of
speed. Basically one could say that you need to hit Z when you last hit the
ground with a foot before you would hit the obstacle but this is too hard to
consider once you are at a good speed, so you have to try and try and try
until you simply know when to jump and until you have memorized the rhythmic
pattern in which you need to leap. Another bad thing about the 110m Hurdles
is that you cannot lay down the controller like you did in the 100m Dash or
else you couldn't hit any jump button. Hence you cannot build up as much
speed as easily as you could in the first event. When aiming for the Gold
Medal or the World Record you better enter Trial Mode and do as I suggested
for the 100m Dash: Try to hit either C Left or C Right just before the Go
signal appears so you don't get a false start, but a nice boost ahead of the
competition.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.8 Javelin Throw=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=DD8
General Difficulty: **OOO
Easy to understand and easy to master once you know when to throw.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ***OO
Not too hard and not too easy.
World Record Difficulty: ****O (98.48 metres)
Pretty hard. For the World Record you have to match nearly perfect timing,
button mashing and aiming.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
Z or L or R
To determine the angle of the throw
______
Rules:|
Throw the javelin as far as possible before passing the white line at the end
of the running path. You have three tries with only the best counting.
Crossing the white line (either before or after throwing) is a foul, hence a
0.00 metre throw.
______
Hints:|
Again you should hold the controller like in the Long Jump, the 110m Hurdles
and the Pole Vault. Build up as much speed as possible until you pass two
people being close-by to each other in the background: A photographer and a
man sitting in a chair. Wait about half a second and then press and hold Z.
Also continue building up speed. Release Z when the orange arc reaches the
white line. If done correctly you should throw the Javelin really far and
come to a halt pretty close to the white line on the ground.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.9 Weight Lifting=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=DD9
General Difficulty: ****O
Takes a while to get used to and it is quite demanding.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ****O
Really exhausting and difficult to pull off.
World Record Difficulty: ***** (267.8 kg)
This and the 110m Hurdles are the most difficult events when it comes to
getting a World Record. It's highly frustrating, believe me.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to build up strength
Z or L or R
To pull up the weight
______
Rules:|
First of all you get to choose a weight between 220.0 kg and 280.00 kg (why
the heck is the lowest possible weight already the weight necessary for a
qualification?!). The weights differ by 2.5 kg. You have a total of three
tries for the whole event, not only for one weight; only the highest weight
you could completely lift counts. After each try you have to choose another
weight, which can be lighter than the one you just attempted (in case you
didn't make it), but must be heavier than the heaviest weight you have
successfully lifted.
The event is split up into three parts: First you have to build up strength.
Within the strength meter is a yellow line that moves constantly back and
forth. You have to bring the strength meter into the colored section of the
bar on the right and press Z or L or R when the yellow line is inside said
colored section. The same goes for the second part of Weight Lifting.
Pressing Z when the yellow line is outside the marked section or running out
of stamina (shown below) leads to a foul, hence to a lost try.
In the third part you only need to build up strength and keep the strength
bar inside the marked part for three seconds. Running out of stamina or
letting your strength fall out of the marked section cause a foul.
______
Hints:|
For the first two parts of this event you should hold the controller as you
did in Long Jump for example. Mash the buttons and wait for the purple bar to
reach the marked section. Go on mashing until you can be sure to stop the
yellow line within the marked section. Press Z. Repeat everything up to here
in the second part and prepare for part # 3. Maybe you might want to pause
the game now and rest for a few seconds, because it gets really exhausting
now. Lay down the controller as you did in 100m Dash and get hammering on C
Right and Left or on A and B. You can allow making a few mistakes early on in
this stage, but when approaching the marked section you need to make sure to
keep up the mashing constantly or else you could eventually fall out of the
marked section for just a brief moment, already leading to a foul.
The first weight you attempt should be the standard 220.00 kg one. It is
fairly easy to lift and it gets you onto the third place. Then maybe add 15
to 20 kilogram and after that decide whether to attempt it again, to lower
the weight or to try something even harder.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.10 High Jump=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-D10
General Difficulty: **OOO
Getting used to the various tasks within a short amount of time is somewhat
hard at first but you'll quickly advance a lot and aim for the World Record
in no time.
Gold Medal Difficulty: **OOO
Pretty easy.
World Record Difficulty: ***OO (2.45 metres)
Seems hard but it really isn't.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
Z or L or R
To start the jump and to determine the angle of the jump
Z or L or R
To get over the bar without touching it
______
Rules:|
The rules are pretty much the same as for the Pole Vault. Get over a bar with
three tries. You can determine the height of the bar with the lowest possible
being at 1.80 metres. If you miss a height three times, the best height
you've succeeded in counts as your result. Beating a height resets your fault
counter and it gives you the possibility of setting a new height. The new one
has to be at least one cm higher than the one before and it can be 20
centimetres higher than the one before, but not more than that. So e.g. if
you've beaten the 1.96 metres bar the next one can be anything between 1.97
and 2.16 metres. The highest possible bar hangs at 2.55 metres.
______
Hints:|
This resembles the Pole Vault a lot. Run fast to ease the jump, press and
hold Z right when you enter the red square on the ground and release Z when
the orange arc reaches the white line. Then again press Z when the colored
bar reaches the grey section near the red arrow (the faster you run, the
larger is this section).
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-4.11 Triple Jump-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-D11
General Difficulty: **OOO
By the time you have unlocked this, you have probably played Long Pole Vault
quite a few times. The Triple Jump is a lot like the Pole Vault so you
shouldn't have too much of a hassle here.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ***OO
Not too easy and not too hard.
World Record Difficulty: ****O (18.29 metres)
Quite difficult.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
Z or L or R
To jump
______
Rules:|
Jump for the first time before crossing the green line. Then simply jump two
more times, directly upon hitting the ground. Running over the green line or
pressing the jump button too late results in a foul, hence in a 0.00 metre
jump.
______
Hints:|
Remember the Pole Vault? Good, because this event differs only marginally in
terms of button input. The controller position is absolutely the same, by the
way. Run as fast as possible and press Z just before you would cross the
green line. Closely watch the meter in the lower centre and try to hit Z
again when the rapidly falling red bar is as low as possible. The lower it is,
the further you jump. Repeat for the third jump. If you just want to get some
good points, you better not take a big risk: Press Z when the red bar is in a
good, yet not great position. If you're going for the World Record you better
enter Trial Mode and repeat this event until you manage to stop the red bar
twice in the great zone.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.12 100m Breaststroke=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-D12
General Difficulty: *OOOO and a half
Easy to understand and getting some good points is absolutely no problem.
Gold Medal Difficulty: *OOOO and a half
A bit more difficult than 100m Freestyle but you are allowed to make lots of
mistakes and still come in first place.
World Record Difficulty: **OOO (1.03.32 minutes)
You are still allowed to make quite some mistakes.
_________
Controls:|
Z or L
And
R
To swim
______
Rules:|
Swim two lines as fast as possible. Starting before hearing the signal leads
to a false start with two false starts resulting in a disqualification.
______
Hints:|
This event is all about timing and nothing else. Have your left index finger
on the L button and the right one on the R button. Upon hearing the starting
signal you need to press either button. Next you will see a red line moving
either left or right in the lower left corner. When it goes left, press L
just before it touches the end. If it goes right, press R before it touches
the end. The red bar will alternate left and right. Stopping the line really
close to the end of the bar results in a Great, giving you a nice speed boost.
Stopping it a bit before that gives you a Good and even a bit earlier than
that gives you a Poor. Stopping it way too early or after it has reached the
end leads to a Bad which decreases your speed quite a bit. I recommend always
aiming for the Great, although it can be risky. Yet, getting lots of Great
and a few Goods and Bads still gets you to the finish a lot quicker than
playing safe and only getting Goods, so act a bit risky.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=4.13 Vault=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-D13
General Difficulty: *****
Getting lots of points is extremely hard to do.
Gold Medal Difficulty: *****
You'll need lots of attempts before finally getting a Gold Medal here.
Competition Record Difficulty: ***** (9.92 points)
Getting a Gold Medal and a new Competition Record basically cannot be
separated here. When you get either one you probably also get the other one.
_________
Controls:|
C Right or C Down or A
And
C Left or C Up or B
Consecutively to run
C buttons or Control Stick
To perform
Z or R or L
To land
______
Rules:|
You are given two attempts to jump over the Vault, perform well and land
safely. There is no way of failing, but that doesn't make this event easier
by any means. Note that not only the better attempt counts but that both
scores are added and divided by two to calculate your final score.
______
Hints:|
Hold the controller like in the Long Jump and run as fast as possible. The
faster you are, the more difficult are the performance and the landing, but
still you have to run fast or else you get a crappy result no matter how well
your performance and landing are. E.g. when not pushing any run buttons at
all and acting perfectly afterwards only earn you about 5.50 points.
Once your athlete starts jumping you can stop running. Now carry out the
button combination shown within the time limit and prepare for the hard part
of this event: The landing. Have a close look at the bar on the right and
make the red line stop at the correct moment to get a great landing. Note
that the red line doesn't stop immediately upon pressing Z. When running as
fast as possible there are only two possible outcomes for the landing: Bad
and great. Bad will then make you land on the ninth place, whereas a great
landing grants you the third place and a (nearly) perfect score. Of course
you still need a second great landing or else the first attempt was pretty
much useless. If you want the gold medal for Vault, definitely enter Trial
Mode and immediately hit Start and repeat the event if you miss the first
landing.
General Difficulty: ***OO
Stay calm and you should do rather well after a while.
Gold Medal Difficulty: ****O
One single mistake in the false moment renders it impossible to get the gold
medal, but overall by staying calm you can manage it rather quickly.
Competition Record Difficulty: ****O and a half (400 points)
I would say, when you are able to get a Gold Medal in Trap Shooting you
should also get a new Competition Record soon after.
_________
Controls:|
Control Stick
To aim
A
To release a clay pigeon
Z
To shoot
______
Rules:|
You have to shoot clay pigeons in ten rounds with 6 shots available in each
round. In the first round you get 2 objects to hit. If you manage to hit both
before they fall onto the ground, you will have three objects in the second
round. Beating a round will increase the number of clay pigeons per round up
to six. From then on you always get six of them as long as you manage to
destroy all of them. Missing a clay pigeon in any round will decrease the
amount of shootable objects to 2 again in the next round. Hitting one pigeon
in a round gives you 2 points, the next one 4, then 6, 8, 10 and 15 for the
sixth. In addition you can get extra points by shooting the pigeons as
quickly as possible: 2 extra points for a quick hit, 1 extra point for a
normal hit and none for a late hit. Another way to get some extra points is
to hit two clay pigeons in one shot. This happens extremely rarely, but it
gives you ten sweet bonus points.
______
Hints:|
Plug in your best controller! You don't want one with a worn-out control
stick or else you can kiss your competition record ambitions goodbye. The
Trap Shooting has a decent auto-aim, but still you need to aim pretty
precisely. There is not much I can tell you here, except for: Take the
pigeons down in the order in which they appear and take your time. Don't try
too hard getting the extra points for quick hits. Focus on hitting every
object. Missing one means to have way less possible points in the next round.
Oh, and don't try to get the 10 bonus points for a double hit. It may happen
by luck sometimes, but if you try to do it on purpose you will very likely
fail.
5. Championship Mode EEE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Championship Mode consists of eight events split up into three days of
competition. Any event you already have at your disposal in Trial Mode can
appear in Championship Mode, no matter whether it has been available from the
beginning or if you have unlocked it.
The only thing that matters in this (main) mode is to come in first place at
the end to be rewarded with a short cut-scene and a tad bit of your national
anthem. This will also earn you a special name, see section 7 for details.
In the following you will find your enemies' score for every event, but (as I
already mentioned) there is no way of telling you which nations get them.

8. Closing Comments HHH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
International Track & Field 2000 is a great game both for single players and
multiple players. The hunt for new records motivates over and over again, the
game is easy to understand and you really get a piece of the sports action at
home since the button smashing can be extremely exhausting sometimes. If only
the hammer throw wouldn't ruin your palm as Mario Party 1 already did. ^^
I'd appreciate any comments, questions, high scores, critics or whatsoever,
so please mail me at
[email protected] if you have anything to tell me (even
misspellings and stuff).
9. Experimental III
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In some other guides I've seen the author implement the following and I
thought "Why not give it a try for your own guides?":
If you really like this guide and you think it helped you or entertained you
a bit or whatsoever and you feel like rewarding me not only by writing a nice
e-mail, feel free to send some money to my paypal account at:
[email protected]
Of course I don't want to make somebody send me money who doesn't really want
to (even if I could, I wouldn't ;) ), but (also of course) I'd appreciate any
contribution.
Thank you very much for reading this guide and hopefully some more of my
stuff on gamefaqs.
