1. Introduction
---------------
Welcome to my FAQ on F-Zero X. I really like this game and know a
decent bit about it, so I decided to compile this FAQ you are reading on
it. I am an avid fan of racing games in any form, whether it be behind-
the-car views (Most racing games), overhead views (RC Pro-AM), or even
side-scrolling views (Iggy's Reckin' Balls). Anyway, let me give you my
description of the game I'm here to explain.
There are no weapons in this game except for your vehicle. This game
is about as violent as racing gets WITHOUT weapons. There are 30
vehicles, which is a lot compared to a racing game's normal 8 or 10.
There are 24 pre-made tracks, plus infinite possibilities with the
random track generator. I got this game for Christmas, and let me tell
you something, I love it!
This is my very first FAQ. The most recent version can be found at
www.gamefaqs.com.

2. The Controls
---------------
In case you rented this game, borrowed this game, lost the operation
card, or have never even played the game and are VERY curious, here are
the controls:
C.Stick Turning, Drifting, and tilting when you are flying (as
opposed to hovering)
A Accelerate
B Boost (Only after 1st lap in GP, VS. and Time Attack)
C-Down Brake (Use it only to Show Off in VS, Turn around easily while
moving, and of course to avoid Certain Death)
C-Left Change between Track View and Lap # in 3-4 player VS.
C-Right Change Views in any mode
C-Up Hold to look behind you
Z Lean Left (For Moving Sideways, Power Turning, and purposely
drifting)
R Lean Right (For Moving Sideways, Power Turning, and purposely
drifting)
L Shows how far away you are from the Leading Competitor in GP
Mode, saved ghost in Time Attack, or the leading ghost in Time
Attack if there are none saved. It also shows this information
after each lap in the modes listed.
Z twice/ "The Shoulder Ram", use to edge opponents off
R twice the track, or, when used in conjunction with
turning, to slam opponents into the guardrail,
most likely destroying them with a direct hit.
Hold Z, press R twice/ "The Spin Move", also good for edging opponents
Hold R, press Z twice off the track, but is effective against groups
of opponents when you get momentum going.
Hold the correct button depending on your
situation, which means don't hold R when you are
on the right edge of the track.
Hold Left + Z Power Turning - Good for medium-tightness turns.
Hold Right + R You lose more speed than when you do a regular
turn, so don't power turn all the time.
Hold Left + R Drift Turning - Good for 180-degree turns. Your
Hold Right + Z vehicle turns rapidly, and the camera angle does
not change until you let off Z or R. EXTREMELY
effective for those hairpin turns where even
Power Turns won't cut it. The direction of the
control stick signifies which way you rotate.
Best used on acceleration-oriented machines.
Otherwise, just decelerate and power turn.

3. Driver/Vehicle Info
----------------------
First and foremost, about the Xs:
Every time you complete a certain cup on a certain difficulty, you get
a certain amount of Xs. Beating the Jack Cup on Novice will get you the
1st X for that cup; likewise, beating it on Standard gives you the 2nd X
for the Jack Cup, as well as the first if you haven't earned that yet.
It is possible to get 16 Xs, 4 for each cup on each difficulty. Note
that the X cup will not give Xs (Despite its name.)

4. Mode Information
-------------------
There are many modes in F-Zero X. Here are their descriptions.
GP Race: This is what racing is all about: the Grand Prix. You start it
all in 30th, despite whatever cup you're in. You then race for points
(obviously). From the second race on, there will be a "Rival" tag arrow
which signifies the highest-ranked competitor (minus you, of course).
When you eliminate the rival, the tag arrow moves to the next highest-
scored driver. Speaking of, destroying 5 vehicles in a race will score
you another spare vehicle.
When all six races are over, you either race down a strip during the day
(if you get 4th or lower) encouraging you to try again, or if you get
3rd or better, you race to the winners' circles as one of the top 3.
On Standard difficulty or better, a first place victory will net you a
quick sentence by your character.
Time Attack: This is essentially Time Trials. You race by yourself or
possibly with ghosts. There are two kinds of ghosts: Temporary and
saved. Temporary ghosts are created when you restart a race signifying
your best 3 times for the session. Changing tracks erases Temp. Ghosts.
Permanant Ghosts are the kind you save on your game. Only 1 can be
saved on your game. If you press L in this mode, it will either say how
far you are from the leading Temp. Ghost, or how far you are from the
track's saved ghost. Staff Ghosts are something different: They are
unlocked when you accomplish certain times on certain tracks. They
use modified vehicles and are EXTREMELY hard to beat.
Records show the Top 5 times for each track, your initials (of course),
and it even goes down to what vehicle and paint job you used, complete
with your Acceleration-Max Speed balance. It also lets you know if
there is a ghost on the course that is saved.
Death Race: A diversion from the GP for most, an action-packed
Destruction Derby for others, and perhaps practice for some. This is
Death Race. 30 come in, only 1 will come out. Just beat your opponents
senseless on a virtually straight, endless track. It only records the
#1 time; no initials, no vehicle used, no nothing...except the time.
VS. Battle: Some small racing action here. You can pick any track you'd
like, and go at it! The racing can have as little as 2 or as many as 4
(Big margin there!) vehicles competing for position. At the end of each
race, every player gets points. Here are the scoring charts:
2 machines 3 machines 4 machines
---------- ---------- ----------
1st Place 5 points 5 points 5 points
2nd Place 0 points 3 points 3 points
3rd Place 0 points 1 point
4th Place 0 points
Practice: This mode is kind of useless. You go onto a track with the
other 29 cars and race (or practice, if you will). Kinda boring. I
consider it an advanced Death Race that doesn't record times.
Options: Nuff' Said. Here they are:
VS. Computer (with, w/o): If you want the field of four to be filled in
by computer vehicles who choose their own vehicle/paint job, turn this
on (with). If not, leave it off (w/o (without)).
VS. Slot (with, w/o): a.k.a. "Revenge Mode", this allows downed players
from the action to get revenge by playing a slot machine that is energy
deductant. Here are the combinations (A successful combination
results in "Bingo, hahahahahaha!":
3 of (opponent)'s pic: Reduces their energy to 0 (1 crash kills!).
3 of your pic, 3 announcers: Cuts everyone's current energy in half.
3 Xs: Reduces 1st place's energy to 0.
3 Skulls: Reduces EVERYONE'S energy to 0.
VS. Handicap (w/o, +1, +2): This makes it so the players in 2nd place
and below can boost while consuming less energy in that matter. Makes
catching up a bit easier. +1 makes it consume less energy, +2 means
even less!
Sound Mode (Stereo, Monaural): Self-explanatory.
All Data Clear: Do not touch, it may be hot!
----------------
5. Gameplay tips
----------------
In GP mode, eliminating your rival is the key to success, especially on
harder difficulties.
This strategy works well in Death Race mode: Start from the back and
work your path of destruction's way up. Don't just go around killing
enemies randomly (unless, of course, you're not going for a good time).
If you are too fast & heavy, you may fly off the course if you are
hanging from the side or underneath...To avoid this problem, move around
a lot (to lose speed) in your designated "danger zones".
Pro Players, don't overlook the lighter vehicles because of their lower
top speeds! It's not like you'll be at top speed much anyway!
Speaking of, a Top Speed-oriented balance works well in Time Attack.
In VS. Battle, the Computer vehicles have a human's energy bar length
(as opposed to GP mode's much shorter CPU energy bar). Beware.

Winning Quotes:
Said when you place 1st overall in Standard's GP mode or better
(obviously, not finished). I forgot half the quotes )-:

Jody Summer: Was there ever any doubt I'd win?
Mighty Gazelle:
Baba: My people will build a statue in my honor!
Octoman:
Dr. Clash: The next machine I invent will be even faster!

Beastman: Lookin' for a whoopin'? Come to Beastman!
Antonio Guster:
Black Shadow:
The Skull:
Subliminal Stats (in vehicles):
Dr. Stewart: D-A-D (He races to avenge his father)
Mr. EAD: E-A-D (Nuff' Said.)
Things I ask and say:
Silence, eh? It's an oval. And I get blown off the track. Does "Death
Wind" ring a bell?
Why does Baba scream like a girl?
Some tracks in X Cup mode will send about 25 opponents off the track on
a tough turn the first lap, and the other 4 opponents go the next lap.
I personally remember there being guardrails on Rainbow Road...But then
again, I also remember Chomps & Thwomps out and about too, not to forget
Neon Signs in the background, plus it doesn't go without saying that
there wasn't any water at the bottom, and...
Not only did Captain Falcon appear in Super Smash Brothers, but Blood
Falcon also did (Falcon's Down-C outfit).
Any word on what that comic says? I can't understand what Jody Summer's
saying.
Mr. EAD reminds me of Mario...I think they preserved his body and put
him in a robot's body, or something like that?
The G-Diffuser system...Wasn't that in Starfox? And if it's "An
Opposing-Gravity System", How can they go in space? This applies to
Starfox and F-Zero X (Rainbow Road).
Speaking of, James McCloud should get turned into a fox (F-Zero X2 Idea,
anyone?). And rename his craft.
Anyone ever fell through Space Plant's tunnel? I mean, when you make a
really big jump and catch some air? And try to land on the tunnel?
Black Shadow is Batman, I'm almost sure.
Deepthroat, Deepthroat, Deepthroat, Deepthroat, Deepthroat, Deepthr...
