1.MY OPINION
When I compare this game to the Donkey Kongs on the NES and Arcade, and even
the Colecovision, it looks really bad. But that is not the case. It is
actually pretty damn fun. The graphics are alright for the atari 2600, the
sound effects are alright (but some music would have been nice) and it is kinda
challenging. It may not be as fun as it's later versions but it's still a nice
platform game. A nice start for Donkkey Kongs amazing career, even if it does
involve raiding construction sites.
2.GAME BASICS
Here's some stuff you would probably find in some instruction booklet. But who
can be bothered reading them?
i.Story
It seems that whacked out kong has gone and stolen a certain Italian plumber's
(Mario you moron) girlfriend. So you have to go and get her back while
DonkeuyKong rolls barrels down at you.
ii.CONTROLS
Up-Mario climbs up a ladder
Down-Mario climbs down a ladder
Left-Mario moves to the left
Right-Mario moves to the right
Fire Button-Jump
iii.Enemies
Barrel-The famous enemy in Donkey Kong. DK will roll barrels that kind of look
like cookies down at you, which you have to jump over. Watch out, they can go
down ladders.
Ghost Duck-Looks like a duck, but is a ghost (I think). These are very
intelligent. Sometimes if you try to jump over them they will move out of the
way and go under you. They cannot climb down ladders. They are also about 1.5
times faster thn you.
Donkey Kong-Public enemy no 1.He does not actually attack you, but he is still
the main enemy. He looks like a really big red blob.
iv.CHARACTERS
Mario-The whacky plumber who is trying to save his girlfriend. In this game he
wears purple, instead of red, which is really weird.
Pauline-Marios girlfriend, the maiden in distress. She wears a green dress with
a purple belt.
Donkey Kong-A giant evil gorilla. He is not a donkey.He is Mario's nemesis in
this game.
v.SCORING
If you score 100 000 points, you gain an extra life
At the start of the level your time-o-meter starts at 5000. It goes down 100
points every second (5000, 4900, 4800 etc.) When you complete the level, you
get how many points are displayed on it.
When you destroy an enemy (with the plunger) you get 100 points
When you jump over an enemy you get 100 points.
vi.Items
There is only 1 item in the entire game.
PLUNGER-Well he is a plumber. He uses it as a hammer and it will destroy any
enemy EXCEPT Donkey Kong.
3.WALTHROUGH
Here I will provide a map and guide for each of the levels.

This would be the most famous of the Donkey Kong levels it involves barrels. It
is not that challenging.
First, walk forward and climb up the complete ladder. Then move forward, but
don't go up the first ladder. Go up the second, because it will pretty much
keep you alive (barrels sometimes go down the first one.Climb up and jump a
barrel. Go forward and climb up the ladder next to the incomplete one, but only
climb up halfway, as a barrel should be moving right over your head or
underneath you. Climb up completely and then go up the closest ladder to you.Go
up, then jump a barrel. Then climb up the final ladder at the far right of the
screen and rescue Pauline.

This is the lesser known level in Donkey Kong.You have to run/jump over all of
the hinges. It is quite challenging.
In this level ALWAYS make sure that the ghost ducks are at the other side of
the screen before running over the hinges.
But you have to make it to the second hinge as well; so you have to watch out
that the ghost ducks don't rebound off the gap and into you.
The higher up the ghost duck, the more intelligent it is, so watch out. In this
level just keep on running and jumping. At the start, go up the ladder next to
you. Run over the hinges and jump over a duck once or twice, then climb up the
ladder at the left. Then move on to the next floor, and do the same thing. When
you reach the 3rd floor, Irecomend using the plunger, as it is a little easier
than jumping the quite intelligent duck. Do the highest floor (watch out for
the really intelligent duck) and you have completed the game.
Now you go back to level 1, but it a tad harder. And gets harder.And harder....

Q:Where is the Factory Level?
A:it is not in this game, either is the elevator level
Q:Can you play as any other characters?
A:No
Q:Why does DK roll cookies down at you?
A:They are not cookies, they are barrels.
Q:What do you do with the incomplete ladders?
A:They have no usage.
Q:On the first level,there is a complete ladder at the top-left of the
screen.Can you climb up it?
A:No, it's just decrotive.
Q:I cannot climb entirely up Paulines ladder. Is this Normal?
A:YEs, it is normal.
Q:Are there any more items/weapons in the game.
A:No, they appear in later versions.
Q:What is better,This game or Donkey Kong Jr.?
A:I personally prefer this one.
Q:Where is Luigi?
A:Luigi has not been created yet.

Stay in the middle of ladders to make sure the coast is clear
Jump twice if necessary
Never jump vertically up
