Released on Christmas eve 1998, this is a Monopoly style game by Taito. The main
preoccupations of this piece of software are the calculation of bank transfer
fees, the fluctuations of the stock market, the sad process of going bankrupt,
and whether any of the hotels you have constructed have cockroach infestations.
I never thought I would be translating how taxation works in a N64 game. This is
truly a Japanese piece of software. The funny thing is, I think Japanese
children would really enjoy playing this, as maths is a well loved subject in
this country.
This has the potential to be a really good party game if all of your players
agree to learn the system. Sadly it is a bit too complicated and has few
mini-games, which means Mario Party will continue to dominate the board game
scene on the N64.
You will need a controller pak to save the hidden maps, so please make sure you
have one with 75 pages to spare.
This game features a soundtrack by Taito's in house band ZUNTATA. They are most
famous for their sounds tracks for the Darius series of SHMUPS.

1. Manual Translation
The guide to paradise; the road to the Resort King (A quick start guide in comic
form)
For those people who want to play straight away, please read this quick start
guide!
You advance spaces by rolling the dice. There are two dice!
When you land on some ground you can buy it! If you buy two pieces of land next
to each other you can combine them into one giant piece of land!
If you have a large piece of land you can construct a hotel on it! If players
land on your hotel you collect accommodation fees from them! If you remodel your
hotels you can increase their ranking, and their accommodation fees will become
ultra expensive!!
You can also buy and open shops!! You will receive money from players that land
on your shops!! You can also open shops in your hotels. If you remodel your
shops you can increase their ranking, and their services will become ultra
satisfying and ultra expensive!!
If you land on the bank they will settle your accounts!! But depending on your
money management you could take a big heavy tax loss, or they could give a
repayment bonus!!
At the stock market you can purchase stocks. But depending on which stocks you
buy you can win big and double your investments, or your stocks can become
worthless paper!!
If you land exactly on the bank they will give you a double bonus!! If land
exactly on the stock market they will give you 5 stocks!!
Whoever has the most money is crowned the King of the Resort!!
However they may be bankrupt players…

Controls
D Pad – Move the cursor, select a column, and change numerical values
3D Stick – Roll the dice, (the same as the D Pad)
A Button – Confirm, advance the text
B Button – Cancel
C Up – Display the lecture screen
R Button – Display the mini-map or the assets screen
L Button – Cancel the relief conditions
Z Trigger – Display or hide the whole map
Start – Pause the game
This game needs 75 pages to save using the Controller Pak. 3 different games can
be saved to one controller pak. If you need to edit your controller pak data,
hold the Start button as you turn the Nintendo 64 on.
Choose a mode!
When you start the game and press Start on the title screen the following
options will be displayed in this order.

Options
These are the options that you can change:
Character Speech speed – slow, normal, fast
Car Speed – (How fast the characters drive) slow, normal, fast
Camera Angle – From the sky, behind the cars
Start the game!
First you must choose the mode you wish to play. If you want to start a new save
file please select the “-----“ option. There are two modes to choose from. After
this you can choose the number of players and their characters. If you wish to
continue a previously saved game please select it from the menu. Please ensure
that the same number of controllers are connected as when you played before.
VS Mode
You can play a 4 player game with your friends and the computer. You can change
the rules and the victory conditions.
Tournament Mode
A competition with 15 computer players. Only the top 2 players will advance to
the next map. If you lose, the game will be over. If you win 7 rounds, you will
win the tournament. If you win you will unlock something good….
You can choose a character and enter a name (using the C Buttons to display
kanji) for up to 5 people. Two players cannot use the same character.

Boy 1 – The most popular boy in the class!!
Boy 2 – A cool poker faced boy!!
Boy 3 – Popular with the girls!!
Boy? 4 – A really wild boy. (He is obviously a monkey)
Girl 1 – A very energetic girl!
Girl 2 – A girl who can see her dreams!
Girl 4 – A very sexy girl. (Jesus Christ. This is a direct translation. Not my
opinion)
Girl 4 – A bit of an abnormal girl.
They are your rivals!
When you start a new game, if you do not have 4 players you can choose a
computer player to join you. In Tournament mode, your rivals are automatically
chosen. (I included the nuance of their names too). The level is how strong that
rival is.

The owner of a software company. He is a narcissist, he has a lot of pride.

Everyone’s idol. She is good at making people like her. Her age is unknown.

A company president. He is an entrepreneur grandfather who wants to get money by

A student at a practical college. Her dress sense knocks people off their feet,
but she is disliked by no one.

He is the strongest man in the world but he loves people and is a silly person.
小夜子 Sayoko – Short night child (Level E) Her age is unknown.
An apprentice spirit medium. She is always energetic but she is a rural person
wrapped in mystery.
Choose a map!
There are 7 maps to choose from. The bigger the map number the more spaces they
have, and the amount of money at play will also be larger. After choosing the
map, the player order will be decided by a roll of the dice. Lastly the victory
conditions will be displayed, if you press Start at this point you can change
these settings (in VS mode only).
1 南極タウン Arctic Town
A large map made for beginners. Has a lecture function.
2 ドーナツタウン Donut Town
Has a tax office. It is easy to make large plots of land. The battle for hotels
is fierce.
3 アイスタウン Ice Town
Has a balloon shop. There are not many shops, the scramble for them is
inevitable.
4 やまびこタウン Echo Mountain Town
Has a weapon shop. The key to victory is in good use of traps.
(A Yamabiko is a Japanese Yokai (monster) which is said to live in the mountains
and repeat the voices of travelers)

Lecture Function
On Arctic Town only you can listen to an explanation of the rules. If you press
the C Buttons you change set the victory conditions. If you press C UP at any
time you can view the explanation screen at any time.
Roll the dice and advance!
On your turn, the command list will appear and you can freely choose an action.
Before you roll the dice please do any transactions with other players or save
your game. For more information on the command list, please see below. Choose
the dice from the list and roll them with the 3D Stick. If you press the B
Button while the dice are still rolling you can go back to the command list.
There are many different spaces on the board, here the most common ones

A house - Its land can be bought in order to build a hotel on.

Shops – Can be bought and sold
銀行
Banks – You will either be fined or given bonuses depending on your actions
証券所
Stock Market – You can buy stocks here
カードマス
Card space – If you stop here, events will occur.
税務署
Tax Office – Tax will be taken based on the money you have.
(There are several other spaces not listed in the manual. They are as follows)
Balloon shop - Lets you fast travel to another balloon shop
Antique shop - You can buy a random antique from the 3 available. After auctions
take place the prices increase. The beckoning cat is worth 1000G or more!
Weapon shops - You can place bananas or bombs to stop other players. If you put
bananas on hotels they will be forced to stay there for 2 nights! Bombs send
players to a random spot on the map. You can check were traps are by using the Z
Trigger.
Hospitals - Allows you to take a rest.
Courts - Allows you to sue other players for damages, stealing your hotels and
entrances. The player who rolls the highest number wins. The loser pays the
court costs.
Turntables - These are maps that cross over each other. They change the
direction of travel for all the players on the map.
Buy land!
When you stop on free land you can buy it, even if it is owned by another
player. As long as you outbid them you can take their land. If another player
lands on your land they must pay you parking fees. If you refuse to the buy the
land, it will be offered up to all the other players. Players must press the A
Button within the time limit to place a bid to the bank. When the time limit
runs out the highest bidder will purchase the land.
Aim to make large pieces of land!
If you buy pieces of land next to each other they will be grouped together into
one piece. These pieces of land are the largest source of income for players,
and are necessary for the construction of hotels, be pushy and buy a lot of land
in the same area! Hotels with many entrances can be constructed on area of land
made up of three spaces. If you press C Down you can see who owns which areas of
land.
The game screen
The game commands are shown at the top of the screen. The mini-map is shown in
the bottom left. You can press the R Button to display who owns which
properties. Your current money is show in the bottom right.
When shops are built in town or at hotels the surrounding land prices will
change. The screen will turn to binocular mode when another player builds a
hotel or shop. In this mode you can check the prices of land nearby.
The screen will also turn to binocular mode when the stock market changes. An
upwards arrow means the stock increased in value and a downwards arrow means
that it decreased in value.
If you press the Z Trigger while the commands are displayed, the full map screen
will be displayed. If you select an area with the cursor it will tell you its
name, rank, value, and who owns it. If you press the R Button on this screen the
price for taking over that property will be displayed. If you press C Left this
information will be minimized, press C Right to enlarge it again.
Build hotels!
First you must have a large area of land, then will have to pay the construction
costs of building the hotel. If you meet these conditions you will be asked
増資しますか?, “Would you like to Increase the Capital of this land?” please answer はい
if you would like to construct a hotel.
If a player stops on your hotel they must pay an accommodation fee. This fee is
dependent on the following calculation.
1 nights fee (That hotels bank transfer fee)
TIMES
The number of nights (The number of red ones that were rolled before stopping
there)
PLUS
If there is a tenant there they must pay an additional fee
What is a bank transfer fee?
This is the money that the players pay you if they stop on your hotel. This is
calculated as follows.
The value of the land and the building TIMES the number of stars it has.
Depending on how many properties have been developed in the surrounding area the
land valuation will rise. The building valuation is dependent on whether it has
been remodeled into a high class property. Depending on how much capital has
been invested the building will gain more stars. The stars refer to the ratio of
the retail price compared to its whole sale price.
(Elementary School students enjoy this kind of game!?! I’m glad this is an
electronic game because I’d rather not sit and work this all out!)
Increase the capital of your hotels and shops!
When you remodel your hotels you can renovate them in two ways.
1 Make a new building / Casino
2 Buy a new entrance
Either way the income you make from them will greatly increase.
When you land on one of your hotels, you can choose to remodel them (増資しますか？)
You can then decide in what way to renovate your hotel.
First you can build a set number of extra buildings. When you have built the
maximum number of extra buildings you can build facilities such as a Casino or a
pool. You can remodel the hotel until you earn 5 stars.
Buy shops!
If you land on a shop you can buy it, but just like empty land, if you refuse to
buy a shop it will be auctioned to the other players. If another player lands on
your shop they must pay you a shopping fee.
Shops and Hotels display the number of visitors (おきゃく). Through remodeling and
events this numbers will change. If you have a high number of visitors, when you
land on the bank the income you receive will be higher.
(The number of entrances (いりぐち) and the tax (ぜいきん) is also displayed.)
When you remodel a shop they will become branch shops for tenants of a hotel. It
is possible that your shop will be built inside another players hotel, they
cannot prevent this. When a player stops on the hotel, they will have to pay you
a shopping fee. If the accommodation fee of the hotel is high, the shopping fee
will become higher too. Shops can be built on floor 1 or 2 of any hotel. There
is no difference between the floors. If there are no more spaces to build hotels
or shops, you will not be able to build another one.
Players can be evicted from their shops if they are outbid. The evicted player
cannot prevent this. That is to say, hotel owners and shop owners cannot be
evicted at the same time. Owners can also change their shops in and out as they
desire. If the main shop is bought out by another player, the branch shops
belonging to it will also be taken over.
The bank
When you pass through a bank space you must stop. At that time your account will
be settled, the income of your shops, hotels and land will be taxed. You will
also a receive a bonus for the number of times that you have passed around the
board. If you land exactly on the bank, your bonus will be doubled. This is the
goal for the players who are aiming to achieve a certain amount of money.

4 If you still have a profit after the total income from your properties is
taxed, then you will pay your shareholders.
5 Your total income minus your total expenditures

8 How much money the bank will return to you after the above calculations, if
you are in the red you will be fined. (This is the number at the bottom right of
the screen)
About Tax
There are two main types of tax in this game.
1 Bank Account Settling Tax
Land that a player owns is taxed at 15% of its value. The tax rate will increase
or decrease depending on Events that occur. The land value will increase when
land around it is developed. Additionally, even if you build a building on the
land, its value will not change.
2 Tax from the Tax Office Space
On each board there are some Tax Office spaces. When you land on them you will
pay a 20% tax on all the money that you currently have.
The Stock Market
When you pass through the Stock Market space you must stop. At this time each
player can buy one set of stocks. If you land exactly on the stock market you
can buy 5 sets of stocks. As other players can outbid you for the stocks you
should use your profits well, and match the behavior of the other players.
Stocks are a thing whose value changes. The exchange rate of money to stocks
when they are bought is usually better than land. They are a comparatively safe
asset to own. The value of stocks depends on the condition of the company they
are related to, while Hotels and Shops gradually earn more money over time. If
you hear that the stock prices are going to rise, you should buy them while they
are cheap, then resell or keep them. When they raise in value you will gain a
profit.
Each time you can buy one set of stocks, and you can buy 49 sets in total. For
each oe that you will buy you will pay a 5% handling fee to the stock market.
First choose which stock to buy, then decide how many you will purchase.

1 When you buy 10 or more of the same stock
Stock values raise by 7% percent
2 When you open or take over a shop or hotel
The stock values of your land and buildings raise by 1%
3 When you remodel a hotel
Depending on the remodeling the stock values raise by 1%
4 When you remodel a shop or take over an entrance
Stock values raise by 2G
5 Card Events
Depending on the card, stock values raise by some degree
6 Remodeling / Reforming
If you remodel a building into a high class building, stock values will rise by
1%
Stocks fall in value at the following times
1 If you sell more than 10 of the same stock
Stock values fall by 7%
2 When you sell off a hotel or shop or are bought out
The land and the building stock values fall by 1%
3 When you sell of a part of the hotel
When you sell off a facility, its stock values will fall by 1%
4 When your tenets or entrances are bought out
Stock values will fall by 2G
5 Card Events
Depending on the card event, stock values will fall by some degree
6 Remodeling / Reforming
If you remodel a building into a lower class building, stock values will fall by
1%
Casinos
When you remodel a hotel you can choose to build a casino facility. There are 8
types of Casino. If a player stops at a hotel with a casino, they must play each
of the gambling games available. If they win they may stay at the hotel free of
charge. But if they lose they will have to pay you their losses. If you look at
it from the owners point of view, Casinos give you two big chances to take money
from the other players.
(Each gambling game has a normal version and a deluxe version, depending on the
type of Casino. These are the games on offer and their stats as shown in the
manual)

The gambling player can buy up to 5 coins. If they win with those coins, they
can use them to offset the accommodation fee. However, if they lose, not only
with they have to pay for the coins, but they will also have to pay the
accommodation fee as normal. The cost of one coin is dependent on the size of
the casino. Normally it is one tenth of the hotel accommodation fee. In a deluxe
casino, they are one fifth of the accommodation fee. In effect, if they win in
a normal casino they can offset half of the accommodation fee, but in a deluxe
casino, but in a deluxe casino they can offset all of the accommodation fee.
Games at the Casino
Poker
You can bet 1 to 5 coins, if you win, you will win double the number of coins
bet. The dealer and the player get 5 cards each. You must choose to keep some
cards (HOLD), and you may exchange one card you don’t need for one card from the
deck (DRAW). After drawing, if you get one of the following winning hands, if
your winning hand is stronger than the dealers you will win. If your hands are
the same value, the cards with the strongest value will win. If neither of you
have a winning hand you will tie.

1 Royal Straight Flush – 10 to Ace in the same suit
2 Straight Flush – All the same colour in numerical order (except for A – 2)
3 Four of a kind – 4 cards of the same suit and the same number
4 Full House – 3 cards of the same number and 2 cards of the same number
5 Flush – 5 cards of the same suit
6 Straight – 5 cards in numerical order regardless of suit
7 Three of a kind – A hand with 3 cards of the same number
8 Two pair - A hand with two pairs of numerical cards
9 One pair – A hand with one pair of numerical cards
10 No hand – A hand with no winning value
Slots
You can bet 1 to 5 coins, if you win, you will win double the number of coins
bet. Press the A button when you want to stop the slot. If you line up more than
two king marks you will win.
Black Jack
You can bet 1 to 5 coins, if you win, you will win double the number of coins
bet.
Collect cards and try and keep the total of your hand to 21 or under. You may
take as many cards that you need, but if you go over 21 you will lose. If your
hand is worth more than the dealers you win. If your hand is worth the same as
the dealers it is a tie and another game is played. The ace and Jack of spades
as a pair are known as Black Jack. If you collect them you earn an unconditional
win.
Roulette
You can bet 1 to 5 coins, if you win, you will win 5 coins. Please bet a coin on
the number you think the roulette ball will stop on. You can bet on up to five
places, but only one place will win, and any remaining coins will be taken by
the dealer. The smaller the number the bigger the winnings.
Cards Spaces
When you stop on a card space an event will occur. Depending on its result you
may receive money, or the value of your stocks may increase or decrease. However
not only good things will happen. Depending on how the situation of the game
there is a chance that nothing will happen. (There are various types of card)
Yellow Chance cards
A good event will happen for the player who stopped there.
Red Trap cards
A bad event will happen for the player who stopped there.
Blue Happening Cards
No one knows what will happen. It may effect other plays too.
The main NPCs
They appear in the game as guests, mostly after events, and in games between
turns. There are NPCs who players will be grateful too, and NPCs who are more
like uninvited guests.
王様 The king
The king of the resorts. A rich man who lavishes money on the players.
ペテン師 The Swindler
A little scoundrel who steals half the fee for any assets he stops on. Be
careful that he doesn’t stop on any high class properties!
スター The Star
The top star in the world! Any property he stops at will increase in popularity,
and the number of customers will increase. (He looks like Michael Jackson with
blonde hair.)
ゴキブリ The Cockroach
A person who has been hated for 3 hundred million years. Any property he stops
at will decrease in popularity, and the number of customers will decrease.
建築屋さん The builder
A scatterbrain who will move the entrances of your buildings without thinking
大怪獣 The Giant Monster
It will rampage all over your hotel grounds and destroy your buildings! However,
if you buildings have a low rank it will overlook them. (Looks like Bub from
Taito’s other famous series, Bubble Bobble.)
Deciding the winners and losers!
The first player to land on the bank after surpassing the amount of money set as
the goal is the winner. The game will also end if a set number of players go
bankrupt. The other players are rank according to the value of their total
assets.
If you spend all of your money at another players hotel or business, you will be
threatened with bankruptcy (破産). Following procedure will take place.
The process of going bankrupt is as follows
First money is taken from the amount you are currently holding.
Then your stocks or properties are sold
If you still cannot pay your bills you will become bankrupt
The exact value of your stocks will be struck off
All your properties will be put up for auction to the other players.
If you still cannot pay at this point you will then be out of the game and your
character will be struck from the rankings. Bankruptcy calculations begin with
selling off the stocks as these are least damaging to lose.
Use the commands!
Commands can be done before your roll the dice. They appear at the top of the
screen, use the D Pad and the A Button to select them. A small description will
be displayed, press the A Button again to confirm. From left to right they are
written as follows

1 The number at the top middle of the screen is a prediction of what the bank
will give you the next time you pass through.
2 The blue box to the top right is the town population, how many customers there
are.

4 To the right are the investment possibilities of those properties.
5 The big box to the right has the details of your buildings as follows

The graph displays the changes in popularity of the stocks. When stock values
rise, their line on the graph rises too, at this time it is more expensive to
take over buildings. When stock values fall, their line falls too, at this time
it is cheaper to take over buildings.
物件 Property data
You can view the data of all the properties on the map, listed in order of value
based on 4 conditions. The data in the columns from left to right is as follows

3ランク How much has been invested in it. Properties with stars cost more to land
on.
4 ねだん The value of the property
5 ふりこみ How much you pay when you land on it. (For hotels, one nights cost).
6 入り口 How many entrances they have. (This makes it easier to land on.)
終了条件 Winning conditions
If you press the Start button on while the command screen is displayed the
winning conditions will be displayed. You can change the conditions here in VS
Mode.
When the command screen is displayed, if you press the R Button the mini map
will switch to displaying the amounts of money that each player has. The blue
numbers display the money they currently have, and the black number display
their total finances including the properties and assets.

Use this command to roll the dice and advance.
売買SELL
Use this to start a building or stock auction.
株売 Sell Stocks
You can sell stocks you own with this option. The stocks will return to their
normal price. The timing to sell them is very important. Select a stock you wish
to sell and then select how many stocks of that type you wish to sell.
競売 Auction
You can auction properties that you own to other players with this option.
Select the property you wish to sell, and the auction will be opened to the
other players. The starting price will be set by bank. The player with the
highest bid at the end of the time limit will win. The price set by the bank is
half of the valuation of the property. At the end of the auction the player who
auctioned the property must pay 20% of the winning bid to the bank as a handling
fee.
改築 Remodeling
You can remodel hotels or shops you own with this option. You can also build
other buildings here. However you cannot turn a shop into a hotel. Select a
property you would like to remodel (if that building is sold off, half of the
price will be given to you). Then choose what type of building you would like to
build. After it is built you can choose to enter a name for it. You can write in
Hiragana, Katakana or English letters. Once you have finished select 決定 to
continue. After remolding, the money you receive from its shops will much more
than normal. The card on the left of the screen is the current building, the
card on the right is your option for remodeling. The numbers underneath are as
follows;
物件売値 The value of the current building
物件買値 The purchase price of the new building
差引値 The cost.
If the purchase price is higher than the selling price the cost will be written
in red.
取引 TRADE
You can trade with other players using this option. First you must choose from
買う buy, 売る sell, and 交換 trade. Next you must choose the property of the player
you wish to buy/sell/trade. If you press C Down at this point it will display
details about the land the building is on. After the property is decided the

building hotels, then put tenants in their hotels, this is the fundament way of
becoming stronger! If you can’t do this, pray that the Giant Monster appears!
Q I suddenly spent too much money at the stock market
When you stop at the stock market, if you press the Z trigger, you can see where
you can stop next. Then aim for places to build your income, or be aware in
advance that there are other player’s hotels ahead, and save your money! This is
the way to avoid wasting too much money at the stock market.
Q I cant understand a single thing about how to use stocks.
1 If you have spare money buy a lot of stocks!
In order to buy stocks, ever time, a 5% handling fee is necessary, if you buy
more than 10 of the same stock, its value will raise 7%. That is to say, you
will make a 2% profit, and in total your stocks will rise 7% in value. On the
other hand if you sell 10 or more stocks of the same type that your rival has,
they will lose 7% of their value. This is one way of attacking your rivals
through their stocks. Work out the losses and profits well and make use of
stocks!
2 Aim for the stocks of the player with large plots of land
It is not mistake to say that if a hotel is built the value of stocks will
suddenly jump up too! Before a hotel is built, buy as many stocks as you can
while they are cheap. Do not forget to check how much money the player who is
building the hotel has either.
3 Aim for the dividends of players with stocks!
If there is a player who has to pay a lot of dividends to shareholders when they
land on the bank, it is good to aim to buy a lot of that stock in order to get
dividends yourself. Dividends are determined by how many players own that stock,
so make sure you own a lot and other players own a little.
4 Immediately sell crazy stocks!
If a the company related to a stock that you own goes bankrupt, sell those
stocks as soon as you can! Such stock falls in value rapidly, and the more you
own the more serve losses you will make.
