1. Legal Crap That Nobody Reads
This FAQ belongs to me. However, Yuu Yuu Hakusho belongs to Togashi Yoshihiro
(Though FUNimation seems to think it belongs to them :P) and this game belongs
to... whoever made it. I forgot to check before I wrote this. *laugh* I make no
claim to either of these products. No profit whatsoever has been made on this
FAQ, its simply to guide and inform all three of the people who go through the
trouble of getting this obscure, but rather entertaining, game. It should be
found on www.gamefaqs.com, however, if you want to repost it somewhere else, be
my guest. Just don't change it, take my nick off it, etceteras, and let me know
where you're posting it so I can add your URL here. Needless to say, this FAQ
is not to be sold. Like anybody would pay money for a dinky little text
document that tells you how to beat an hour long game.
2. Combat
Battle controls:
left/right - Move
down - Block. Normal attacks can't hit you while blocking but boss specials can.
up+up - Move behind enemy. Attacking from behind is the most reliable way to
get hits in.
A - Punch
B - Kick
C - Change character (Part 2 only, not available in some boss fights)
Up+A - Power Punch
Up+B - Power Kick
Down+A+B - Special attack. Consumes Reiki Points, which unlike HP only come
back at set times.
3. Characters
The Heroes
Urameshi Yuusuke
A 14 year old delinquent going to Sarayashiki Junior High. He was hit by a car
in the process of saving a child who ran into the street and died, but because
his actions were unexpected, there was no place for him in heaven or hell. So
he was given a chance to come back to life, which he did, after which he was
appointed a Reikai Tantei (Spirit World Detective) Brash, obnoxious, and
something of a pervert he is nonetheless a kind person at heart.
Yuusuke is probably the most well balanced of all the characters in terms of
combat ability, which is fitting for the main character. His special attack is
'Rei Gan' ('Spirit Gun'), an ability taught to him by Koenma where he fires a
blast of Reiki from his finger like a gun.
Kuwabara Kazuma
14 year old rival to Yuusuke, he had never lost a fistfight until he met
Yuusuke, who as of the beginning of the series has beaten him 183 times (or
some similarly ridiculous number) Although they are bitter rivals their many
fights has caused a close friendship to develop between them (though neither of
them will admit it) He also goes to Sarayashiki Junior High.
Kuwabara is VERY strong, and can crush many early enemies with a single blow.
He also has obscene amounts of Reiki Points that allow him to use his special a
lot. However, these are balanced by crushingly low speed and hit points. His
special attack is 'Rei Ken' ('Spirit Sword') a technique he developed himself
to use his Reiki to form a sword of variable length.
Kurama (Minamino Shuichi)
A 1400 year old youko (Demon fox) in the body of a fifteen year old human. As a
youkai, he was a famous thief who specialized in stealing ancient treasures.
Cold and calculating, few indeed were the people he trusted. However, he was
mortally injured by a youkai hunter and forced to flee to the ningenkai, where
he possessed an unborn baby who didn't have a soul yet so he could recover. He
planned to remain only long enough to regain his power and then depart forever,
but this was changed as his human mother taught him to love. But as he got
older, his mother fell ill, and he was forced to team up with Hiei to steal the
three sacred treasures, so he could use the Ankokukyo to sacrifice his life and
save her. Yuusuke, however, saved him from dying at the risk of his own life,
starting a fine friendship between the two.
Kuramas stats are similar to Yuusukes in terms of balance, except perhaps a
little more on the side of speed than strength. His special attack is his Rose
Whip, an ordinary rose transformed into a deadly whip with thorns that can cut
steel by Kurama's plantshaping.
Hiei
A 14 year old youkai (Japanese mythical creature similar to a demon) with a
deeply traumatic past, Hiei is very quiet and introspective, and trusts nobody
other than himself. Although he originally plotted to conquer the Ningenkai
(Human World) using the three sacred treasures, he was defeated by Yuusuke and
arrested. In order to atone for his crimes he was assigned to help Yuusuke
defeat the Shiseijuu (Four Holy Beasts) and the attitude of the youth and his
friends ended up influencing Hiei for the better, much to everyones surprise
including his own. He is now a permanent member of Yuusukes team and
grudglingly acknowledges their competence (except for Kuwabara, who still
annoys him.)
Hiei is the polar opposite of Kuwabara stat-wise. His speed is absolutely
blinding, which makes dodging attacks a snap once you get used to it.
Unfortunately until you do you'll probably find yourself blundering into things
as Hiei moves faster than you can handle. His physical strength on the other
hand, leaves something to be desired, as it will take quite a few blows to
handle most enemies. Luckily he has more than enough speed to land said blows.
His special attack is his katana.
I'll add info on the NPCs later.
4. The walkthrough
This game is divided into two parts. The first part is an introduction to each
character, where you choose a character to play and accomplish each of their
individual quests. After all four quests are finished the team meets up and
goes to the Makai to finish their business. So, without further ado...
Intro
I can't tell most of whats going on since my Japanese is limited, but it begins
with a flashback to Yuusukes fight with the younger Toguro brother. Afterwards,
Botan calls the whole team together telling them that Koenma is calling for
them. So they all go to Yuusukes home to watch the Koenma News (^^;;;) and
receive their mission... which is... I have no idea. My Japanese sucks, sorry.
Brief explanation of the menues, the commands are, in order
Look
Talk
Move
Move will display a list of possible locations. Don't worry non-Japanese
readers I'll help you find the one you need. :P By the way, you can only save
in between chapters right now.
Yuusukes Chapter
You'll start off on a street with a construction site in the background. Theres
absolutely nothing here (unless you count another Toguro flashback. Blah.) , so
move to the first area on the list, and a strange old man will appear watching
you. As Yuusuke walks down the street, a civilian will approach him, except its
actually a youkai in disguise. One brief fight later, the guy is toast. Move to
the first area on your list again and you'll see an old woman who will say
something to you that surprises Yuusuke and he'll immediately leave (move list
comes up right away) Go to the second area on your list (the park I think) and
Yuusuke will see more youkai disguised as delinquents. Time for another easy
fight. Remember, don't waste your Reiki on these guys or you'll regret it when
the boss shows up. After the underling is toast a much stronger youkai will
reveal itself. Kick its ass (its not that much stronger, really) and Yuusuke
will leave and the strange old guy will show up again. From here head to the
second area on the list (where you met the old woman) and you'll see a fortune
teller (?) who will reveal something or another that Yuusuke seems grateful for
(I think this is actually the old man whose been following you around). The
move list will come up again but theres only one option now. Go there and
you'll bump into Keiko (NOT KAYKO you damn dubbies!) who will take you to the
park. After a brief conversation Yuusuke will leave and some more delinquents
will show up. Yuusuke will hear Keiko scream and head back, but the weird old
guy has already saved her. Yuusuke is very impressed with his strength but
before he's asking the guy where he got it, he leaves without a word. Yuusuke
will follow him up to a waterfall and confront him, and the old guy will offer
to teach him. Yuusuke accepts gratefully, and the old guy has him sit in the
waterfall (god the background noise here is annoying...) and starts sending
waves of power into him, which Yuusuke can't seem to handle. The old guy taunts
him on his weakness but then Genkai shows up and reveals that the old man isn't
human! Go fig. Yuusuke roundly curses the old man for tricking him and a boss
battle begins. This isn't that hard but its a lot tougher than the fights up
until now. Rei Gan will do some nice damage, but this early you only have
enough reiki for a couple shots, so make sure to shoot at his back. Watch out
for his special (I'm still not sure how to dodge specials) and keep pounding on
him till he goes down. Remember, its always easier to aim for his back so he
can't block. After he's toast he'll take spirit form and flee, and Yuusuke and
Genkai will talk a little and Yuusukes chapter will end.
Kuwabaras Chapter
You'll start off in the same basic starting area with the construction site in
the background. Oddly enough, for some parts of this chapter the look command
is absent. But in any case theres only one place to go, so go there. You'll be
approached by a man who will (surprise!) turn into a youkai and attack. One
power kick will demolish this wussy thing. Either go to the park (second
place), then the school, or go straight to the school (third place) then move
inside. Either way you'll end up in a room with Kuwabaras buddies (the former
method of getting there also includes a scene with Takenaka. Dunno whats going
on though.) Once you're done talking to them move back to the park (first
option) Talk to yourself, then move to the first place on your screen and
you'll end up meeting another generic guy who turns out to be a youkai (sensing
a pattern yet?) Again, one power kick to the back will demolish it. Move back
to the park (only option on the list) and you'll see some punks who will say
something and leave. You'll end up in your bedroom talking to Botan. Go to the
second place on your list (I think... if that doesn't work try the first place
then the second) and you'll sneak back into the school and meet an immensely
evil looking woman who unsurprisingly turns out to be the pumpkin-headed boss
of Kuwabaras chapter. This is a pretty easy fight, really. Just keep striking
at her back with the Rei Ken until she dies or you run out of reiki. If she
survives, just pound on her with regular attacks. Trust me, she won't have much
health left. Once she's toast she'll take spirit form and run away, and
Kuwabara will leave... leaving a massive brawl in his wake. O.o
Kuramas Chapter
Move to the first area on your list to get into a fight right away, with a
surprisingly small amount of dialogue at that. Move to the second area on the
list to get into another fight, this time with a woman who looks remarkably
like the one from Kuwabaras chapter. She's the same as the last guy in youkai
form though. Move to the third area on the list and you'll see Kuramas mother.
Move back to the first area and you'll see a blue haired woman who will talk to
you a little and leave, opening up a new area, a mansion. Go there (fourth
place) then return to the park, talk to your mother, and leave again. A strange
man will appear from behind a phonebooth as you leave. Go wherever you want
then return to the park (It'll be the second to last option, unless you're at
the mansion in which case it'll be the last.) Unsurprisingly your mother is
gone. Go back to the first place and you'll see the blue haired girl again, who
turns out to be another youkai. @_@ Go to the second area on the list and look
around to see a guy in a business suit who will tell you they've taken your
mother. The move menu will come up with the mansion the only option. Kurama
will RUN there too. Move inside (only option) and you'll see three doors. Go
through the left one (first option) and you'll see your mothers ghostly form.
Choose the top option (attack) and it'll change into a monster. Beat it and
move back out, then repeat this process with the middle door (second option)
Finally go through the right door (third option) and you'll see your real
mother, but she has a strange device attached to her. Said device seems to be
alive, and it will summon a dinosaur (O.o) to deal with you. Kill it and its on
to the boss! Burn all your reiki on Rose Whips to the back and finish it off
with regular attacks. Piece of cake! Afterwards it'll flee and your mother will
be revealed to be safe and sound.
Hieis Chapter
Hieis chapter will start with Hiei remembering seeing a shadow flicker past
him. Move to the first area on your list, look around, and choose the top
option and you'll get attacked. Kick the things ass and move to the second
place on your list, and you'll run into a little girl, who will talk to you and
leave. Move to the third place on the list and you'll see the girl again, who
will be joined by her mother and scolded for bothering you. Go to the third
place on the list and you'll be attacked by another disguised youkai (Seems
that everyone you run into who isn't a major character is either a child, an
old woman, or a youkai.) Go to the third place on the list and you'll see the
girls mother again, but the girl has gone missing. A fourth place has now been
added to your list, so go there. After Hiei finishes talking to himself choose
the only option to sneak up. Look around and you'll be attacked by a youkai
guard dog. This is actually a slightly challenging fight so watch yourself, but
save your reiki for the boss. Move inside and look around, then choose the top
option, then the top option again to get inside. (Apparently whoever is on the
intercom isn't very bright.) You'll meet the girl again, and fight another
guard dog. The girl will leave, so choose the only option to head into the
bedroom where you'll see an old man who will turn into a youkai CAT (whats with
the demonic animals?) and attack. The shadow from earlier will blur past you
and you'll follow it outside... surprise, its the boss. Hiei will remember more
of where he saw him before and then the fight is on. He's very fast, so its
hard to hit his back, but do the best you can and dice him with your katana
until you run out of reiki, then finish him off with punches and kicks as per
usual. He'll die, and Hieis chapter is over.
With all the chapters cleared, everyone will meet back up at Yuusukes home.
Yuusuke and Kuwabara will start pounding on each other, but they get
interrupted by Koenma and briefed by Koenma on the new developments (whatever
those may be) Time to go to the makai. Botan will now give you the Reikai
Tsushin Compact (Those of you who have seen the show will remember this from
the Shiseijuu arc) which allows you to contact her for advice or to save the
game at any time, and off you go.
Everyones Chapter
This will start off with Kuwabara triggering a pit trap, like the klutz he is,
and everyone falling into a dark pit. First thing you'll notice is, the menu
has changed. Heres the new one:
Look Action
Move Compact
Talk
I'm not sure what 'action' really says, but what it does is, you choose a
character, and they'll attempt to do something to get you out of the current
situation, whatever it is. Also, when talking you'll now have the option of
which character should talk, and move now shows directions rather than places
(though since you can't go anywhere yet it'll show nothing right now) Compact
lets you contact Botan for advice or to save.
Thats all for now. I'll finish this whenever I feel like it.
