           FAQ by: Fire_Pro_Fan

=======================================================

In 1992, Human Entertainment ported their flagship
Wrestling series Fire Pro Wrestling to the Sega
Megadrive console.

The game, Thunder Pro Wrestling Retsuden; released
exclusively in Japan, featured graphics, voice clips,
and a control scheme similar to the PC Engine ports of
Fire Pro Wrestling while adding three new Wrestlers
(Hideaki Cho - Bam Bam Bigelow, Storm Daisuke - Kensuke
Sasaki & Masked Typhoon - Super Strong Machine) to
Retuden's diverse roster.

Thunder Pro Wrestling Retsuden's most unique feature
however was the game's "Special Bar", a rechargeable
health meter that depletes each time a Wrestler performs
their finishing move.

The Special Bar was implimented to add an extra level
of strategy to matches and punish players for performing
their finishing moves too early in the match.

This FAQ covers:

* all 12 wrestlers' finishing moves.
* A walkthrough of every mode.
* Secrets, tips & tricks.

******GAMEPLAY & RULES******

========================================================

============
Special Bar:
============

A meter located at the bottom left (Player 1 - Red Meter)
and bottom right (Player 2 - Blue Meter) corners of the
screen that is used to perform a Wrestler's finishing move.

[ 1P [][][] ]      [ 2P [][][] ]

When a finishing move is attempted, the Wrestler's Special
Bar is depleted and turns gray in color; preventing the
Wrestler from using their finishing move until their Special
Bar is replenished.

To replenish a Special Bar, the Wrestler must perform grapples
and other various attacks on the opponent. With every
successful attack, the Wrestler regains one square in their
special bar.

To punish players who attempt to perform their Wrestler's
finisher early in the match, a Wrestler's finisher will be
reversed by the opponent along with the Wrestler's Special
Bar that is also depleted in the process.

Three replenished squares are needed to perform a Wrestler's
finishing move.

=====
D.Q.: -  If a Wrestler remains on the top rope for the
=====    duration of a Referee's five count, the Wrestler
        will automatically be disqualifed thus losing the
        match.

=====
Draw: - When the duration of a match's time limit is reached,
=====   or both Wrestlers remain outside the ring for the ring
       count of twenty seconds, the match will end in a draw.

       If both players reach a draw in World Championship
       mode, the match will be marked as a loss forcing
       Player 1 to start the match over.

=========
Countout: - When a Wrestler remains outside the ring for the
=========   ring count of twenty seconds as counted by the
          Referee, the match will end in a countout.

******SECRETS, TIPS & TRICKS******

========================================================

===========
Soft Reset:
===========

While holding START, press the A,B,C buttons together.

If done correctly, a soft reset will occur resetting
the game back to the Sega startup logo.

========================
Pick The Same Character:
========================

On controller 2, hover over the character Player 1
selected while holding the B button then press C.

===================
Infinite Continues:
===================

At the GAME OVER screen, press up and the C button.

If done correctly, the player will now have three
extra continues.

This cheat can be repeated every time the player
receives a GAME OVER.

===============
Change the BGM:
===============

During a match, while the game is paused, press Up
while holding the B button to change the background
music.

Interesting enough, the BGM in the match can even be
changed to play each Wrestler's winning theme as well.

==========
Auto play:
==========

In Exciting mode, at the pre-match screen, hold Down
and the C button until the match begins.

If done correctly, the COM will now take control of
the player's Wrestler for the rest of the match.

==============================
Unlock The Grapple Timer Icon:
==============================

In Option mode, under the Level option, select "BEGINNER".

Selecting BEGINNER will unlock a nifty little feature
targetted towards newcomers that displays a small, white
arrow icon at the exact second a player should input a
grapple during the lockup sequence.

====================
Giant Panther Cameo:
====================

Since Human decided to use new alibis over each wrestler's
pre-existing Fire Pro name, it should be noted that Hulk
Hogan's Thunder Retsuden name "Ralph Panther" is a direct
reference to the character "Great Panther" (also based on
Hulk Hogan) from Human's original Wrestling title "Pro
-Wrestling" on the Famicom /Nintendo Entertainment system.

===================================
Skip Matches In World Championship:
===================================

In the Options menu, select the first option "ROUND"
while using the Left, Right, B or C buttons and choose
the desired round to start off with.

========================================================

******FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS******

========================================================

Q: Are there any secret characters to unlock?

A: Unfortunately, no.

Star Bomber (Big Van Vader) is the final opponent
of World Championship mode.

Q: Why didn't Human just name this game Fire Pro Wrestling
and why have the Wrestler's Fire Pro names altered?

A: It is rumored that Human was under pressure from Sega
to put in extra effort to conceal the identities of the
Wrestlers unofficially featured in Thunder Retsuden.

As for the name change? I am not sure (but speculate that
Human considered Thunder Retsuden a "side game" and, as
such, decided to come up with a new name for the game.
