(The Misadventures of) Flink is a 2D platformer game for the Sega
Mega Drive (Genesis).  It also exists on the Sega Mega CD (Sega CD).
In the game you control an apprentice wizard who can gain new spell
casting abilities by successfully mixing the right ingredients in his
cauldron.

You need the hint scroll for a spell before you can create it.
This guide can help prevent ingredient wastage.

QUICK GROW - BAD
Cast this spell while standing on a certain type of leaf to make it
sprout and grow tall.  It will give you access to hidden areas of a
level.

LIGHTNING BOLTS- EAE
Several lightning bolts crash to the ground and kill enemies.

DEMON - CFG
Summons a demon (that looks like a potato) that attacks enemies
when they come near.  It can kill 5 enemies before disappearing.
Casting this spell a second time gives the demon
a different appearance and can kill 10 enemies before disappearing.

SPIRIT BOMB - ACB
Can only be cast when an enemy is near.  Launches an enemy seeking
magic unit that causes damage.

SHRINK - FGH
Lets you enter the apple tree with the hole at the bottom of its
trunk.  This gives you access to the apple tree levels.

DUST DEVIL - BDA
Several mini tornados move across the screen and kill enemies.

GHOST - IKJ
Use this in front of the altar to access the cloud levels.

SHIELD - ELC
Allows you to kill up to 3 enemies by using a shield of three
magic units that orbit around you.

PLATFORM - AMA
Creates a small cloud platform.  If you jump on the platform then
create another, you can reach far off places.

MAGIC KEY - disposable spell
This is the only spell from the select spell menu that doesn't
require mixing ingredients to aquire.  It can be picked up like
an item and can only be used once.  With this spell selected,
you can unlock locked treasure chests by jumping on them.

Levels A1.1 to A3.5 form a linear chain, i.e. these levels can be
attempted if and only if the previous level has been completed.


A1.1 - Extra lives x2.  The first can be accessed by jumping on an
enemy to get to the higher platform.  The 2nd is up higher and to get
to it jump up the bean stalk leaves and then jump towards the
beanstalk on the left.  A hidden leaf will appear which is required
to get to the extra life.

A1.2 -
Ingredients: C

A1.3 - HINT SCROLL: Quick grow.  Has an automatically scrolling
second screen.  Extra life: Use the quick grow spell on the green
leaf.
Ingredients: B,A.

A1.4 - Has 2 keys.
Ingredients: D,E,C,A.

A1.5 - Locked chests: red potion x2, gold ring, extra life.  Has
a key.
Ingredients: E,C,A,B,D.

A1.BOSS - Extra life:  Use the quick grow spell on the leaf.  After
beating the boss you get given the HINT SCROLL for the lightening
bolts spell.  See the BOSSES section to find out how to beat the boss.
Ingredients: none.

A2.1 - HINT SCROLL: Demon.  Extra life x2.  The first life can be
gained by climbing back to a platform you were once at after a chest
is unearthed.  The 2nd requires you to steal an enemy's helicopter
and fly up to a higher platform.
Ingredients: E,D,C.

A2.2 - Extra life x2.  At the beginning of the level steal the
enemy's helicopter then fly up.  The 2nd extra life is gained by
stealing a helicopter and unlocking the locked treasure chest.  Has
a key.
Ingredients: F,G,H.

A2.3 -   The first (and only) screen scrolls automatically.  Extra
life: Go back to the unearthed chest by the spring.
Ingredients: H,G.

A2.4 -
Ingredients: D,H,C,F.

A2.5 - HINT SCROLL: spirit bomb.  Has a large apple tree with a hole
at the base of the trunk.  Cast the shink spell in front of the hole
to gain access to the apple tree levels (AA levels).
Ingredients: C.

A2.6 - Has a key.
Ingredients: K,L.

A2.BOSS - Has a key.  After beating the boss you will receive the
Shrink HINT SCROLL.  See the BOSSES section to find out how to beat
the boss.
Ingredients: none.

A3.1 - Has a key.  Spirit bombs work well on the spinning wolves
while they are asleep.  Locked chests x3 (extra life, gold ring,
red potion).
Ingredients: K,C,I.

A3.2 - HINT SCROLL: Shield.  WARNING: This level has ground that
will fall when Flink stands on it.  There are rock platforms in a
cavern that have a countdown to destruction on them.
Ingredients: L,J.

A3.3 - Has an altar.  Cast the ghost spell directly in front of the
altar to get access to the cloud levels (AC levels).
Ingredients: none.

A3.4 - The Stampede!  This level has one screen that automatically
side-scrolls.  Herds of "razor backs" stampede on the ground level,
in waves.  You cannot jump on the razor backs to kill them.  Stay
up high while they are on screen.
Ingredients: C.

A3.5 - Has two level exits.  An ordinary one and one which gives
access to the volcanoe levels.  To get access to the volcanoe levels
you need to have beaten the bosses in the forest, town, apple tree
and cloud levels.
Ingredients: J,M.

AA.1 - Extra life: drop down to the lowest branch on the right,
near the beginning of the level.
Ingredients: K,L.

AA.2 - HINT SCROLL: Dust Devil.  To get the hint scroll you need to
go back to an unearthed treasure chest.
Ingredients: J,B.

AA.3 - The first part of this level involves floating down a tree
trunk on a leaf while avoiding the snakes that pop out from the sides
and the bugs that hover down.
Ingredients: B,A.

AA.BOSS - After beating this boss you will receive the Ghost
HINT SCROLL.  See the BOSSES section to find out how to beat the boss.
Ingredients: none.

AC.1 -  Extra Life: Use the platform spell to get to the chest.
Ingredients: M,L.

AC.2 - This level has cloud monsters that circle Flink.  It is a
great place to fill up your magic flask.
Ingredients: C,D,A.

AC.BOSS - After beating this boss you get given the Platform
HINT SCROLL.  See the BOSSES section to find out how to beat the boss.
Ingredients: none.

AV.1 - Extra life: easy to find in a chest by a door.
Ingredients: none.

AV.BOSS - Extra life: go back to the unearthed chest by the shiftable
block by jumping on the shield enemy.  Beat the boss in this level
to finish the game.  See the BOSSES section to find out how to
beat the boss.
Ingredients: none.

FOREST - Giant stilt walker monster - Method 1: stay between the
stilts and throw rocks at its head.  There is a risk the rocks
will bounce off the stilts and hit you.  Method 2:  Climb the rope
to the left of the area.  Jump from the high platform onto its head.

VILLAGE - Two legged robot vehicle - Pick up rocks, jump on
springs and throw the rocks at the drivers.

APPLE TREE - giant ape - When apples appear in the tree above,
stand where the gap is.  After the apples fall, throw the orange
apples at the ape.

CLOUDS - rock/cloud giant - jump on clouds then jump on its head.
The laser from its eye only hurts you once it explodes on the ground.
Make sure you jump when claps its hands.

MOUNTAINS/VOLCANO - wizard - Phase 1: the wizard will shoot a series
of fireballs in a fixed direction.  Some can be ducked others need
to be jumped.  You may only jump on its head to hurt it when
it has just finished a series of shots.  Phase 2:After a few hits it
starts sending out monster clouds.  You now need to throw the monster
clouds at it.  Phase 3: The wizard becomes a flying snake that drops
monster clouds as well as shoots fireballs.  The fireballs only hurt
you when they explode on the ground. It also circles the rocky
platform you are standing on.

The following information is mentioned after completing the game:

This game was developed in 9 months time.  There are 52 levels with
94 different enemy-tactics plus 5 end-of-world monsters and 10 spells,
13 music-tracks and approx 50 different sound-FX can be found in the
game as well.

I am quite sure that when they say 52 levels, they actually mean
52 seperate continuous screens.  For example, level A1.2 starts off
with a screen that has a lake in the background then once the
scrolling stops, the next screen in that level has a forest in the
background.  Most levels in the game have two continuous screens.
