I. Introduction/Story
===============================================================================
What is considered to be another one of the most looked-over RPGs of our time,
Sword of Vermilion still remains unplayed by many RPG fans. It's a shame
really, but as of March 5, 2007, this game will be available on the Wii
Virtual Console, so hopefully this game and this walkthrough will see some
light.

The story goes like this. Long ago, the evil King Tsarkon on the kingdom of
Cartahena attacked the kingdom Excalabria, which belonged to his long-time
friend King Erik V. Tsarkon's army destroyed the kingdom, and in a desperate
move, King Erik told his most trusted servant, a man named Blade, to take his
child (whom I and many others refer to as Erik VI, since it just makes sense)
and run far away with their family heirloom, the Ring of Wisdom. Blade rose
Erik as his own, in which time, Tsarkon has begun searching for Erik and the
Ring. When Erik turned 18, Blade became very sick.

II. Walkthrough
===============================================================================
Below here are many parts to the walkthrough, in which I will include maps.
The maps will look nothing like the ones in game (because I am only mapping
out the roads). Below is a Legend of the Maps.

Map Legend:

#              Road
~              Road Continuation (Only seen in Southern Excalabria, it means
                                 just keep going straight)
T              Town
V              Village
D              Door
L              Locked Door
?              Person
!              Boss Battle
0 - 9, u - z   Stairs/Path/Entrance to another area
A - Z          Treasure, see specific legend

Each Map (aside from towns) are all 16x16 size maps.

Note that the below walkthrough may contain spoilers, but I will make the
walkthrough as brief, yet informative as possible. Also, a general rule of
thumb is that if you can afford the best equipment in town, then you can
handle what is ahead of you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. Luke, I am NOT your father
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Wyclif-
You start in the town of Wyclif. If you talk to the people in town, they
will tell you that Blade is dying and that you should go see him. Blade's
house is in the upper-left hand corner of the town. Go there and go up the
stairs. Talk to him and he will tell you that you are not his real son and
that you are the son of King Erik V. He tells what happened and about the
Ring of Wisdom, which he hid from Tsarkon in Peak Cave, which is just to the
south of town. Before he passes away, he gives you 200 Kim (which is the
currency in the game) and says to find the 8 rings.

Exit the house and head to the equipment shop near the gate of the town.
Buy and equip a Bronze Sword and Small Shield. Save at the church in town
(make sure you do this often, as you never know when you'll die and lose
half of your money). If you talk to the man near the outside of the Church,
he will give you the map to the Wyclif Area
When you are ready, exit town.

Recommended Level: 1

Keep in mind that you are traveling this world from first-person view. The
only monsters to be worried about are the Dog Kobolds, but only if they come
in packs. If there are just one or two, I'm sure you can handle the battle.
Right now, all you are doing is fighting for money and experience. When you
level up, all your HP and MP will be completely restored, so keep this in
mind when pacing yourself. The chest southeast of town has 50 Kim in it.

Build up your money and your levels. Save up 400 Kim so that you can buy a
Bronze Armor. As you build levels, the Dog Kobolds get easier. Before heading
to Peak Cave, buy a couple Herbs and Candles.

The cave isn't too hard, and everything is pretty straight forward. Make sure
you grab the map before you reach the doors. Take the door to the left which
will lead to two treasures, then return to the door going north which will
eventually lead you to an old man with the Ring of Wisdom. Simple, eh? Exit
when you are set and head back to Wyclif.

-Wyclif-

Rest at the Inn if you need it. Talk to the man outside the left side of the
Inn for a Map to the Parma area. Save at the Church. Make sure you have at
least 2 herbs before heading back out.

3: To Troy Area

Recommended Level: 3

There is nothing new here, just head straight for Parma.

-Parma-
The first thing you want to do is go to the castle and talk to the King. He
has the Ring of Sky, but he will not give it to you unless you bring him the
Treasure of Troy, which is in the Cave of Troy to the east of town. Also note
that there are guards blocking a certain path in the castle. Worry about this
later. Exit the Castle.

There are a couple shops worth visiting, but chances are you will not have
enough money to buy everything on your shopping list yet (which is good
because then you can level up while trying to get the money). What I
recommend you do with your money right now is buy the Ferros Spell. Make
sure you ready this spell since it will come in handy while leveling up.

Before leaving, there are two maps you can get. The first one can be found by
talking to the man above the church. He will give you a map to the area west
of Parma. The 2nd is found with a man inside the house near the gate to the
town. He will give you a map that leads you to the Cave of Troy. Save at the
Church, then exit and head west.

Beware the Fruit Bats and Neophytes, but more so on the Bats. The Bats move
fast and hit hard, especially when you haven't upgraded your armor. Use Ferros
to make quick work of the enemies. Grab all the treasures that you can grab
in this area and just walk around. Head back to town when you feel like you
need to heal up.

It will take you about 2100 Kim to gather every piece that you need, but
getting one piece at a time is better than saving all the money and buying it
at once (makes things easier for you). When you have the money, by (in order)
a Sharp Sword, Silver Shield, and Sangua spell. Don't get the Scale Armor
just yet. You can sell your other equipment now if you wish as well (though
if you wish to use the Super Strength Trick, save your Bronze Sword for just
a little while longer). Heal if you need it then Save. Buy a Lantern and make
sure you have a couple Herbs. Exit town and head east.

(Note: If you find yourself taking more damage then you're dealing, by all
means grab the Scale Armor from the shop.)

The monsters are going to get a bit harder here, but it's nothing your shiny
new Sharp Sword can't handle. If you want some extra money, instead of going
right to the Cave of Troy, go south and follow that path to 300 Kim and a
Dark Sword (see the Super Strength trick below if you wish to cheat a bit, but
keep in mind that I will walk through this game as if no cheats are being
used). Once you are ready, enter the Cave of Troy.

B: Herbs                    G: Floor Map
C: Floor Map                H: Scale Armor

Monsters: Fruit Bat, Eyeball, Skeleton
Recommended Level: 6
Recommended Spell: Ferros

Aside from the fast-paced monsters, this level shouldn't give you a whole lot
of trouble (except for the Eyeballs). Turn left as soon as you can after
entering and lighting up the cave. This will take you to the Floor Map. From
there, just head to the stairs to the 2nd floor.

The treasures on the 2nd floor are worth getting. Make sure you grab the Map
first thing (located under G). There is a Scale Armor on this floor in the
lower-right hand corner of the map, so equip it if you haven't bought it
already. Aside from the 300 Kim that's in the chest (located under F), the
Treasure of Troy is in the chest in the upper-right hand corner. Once you
get it, walk out and head back to Parma.

-Parma-
Take the Treasure of Troy to the King of Parma. The King then insists that
Erik stop his quest and live peacefully in Parma. You have no choice but to
say Yes at the moment. Exit the castle. Rest at the Inn and save at the Church.
Try to exit the town and you'll find that you cannot. Talk around town and the
people will wonder why you chose to stay in Parma.

Go talk to the King again. He doesn't seem too happy with you, and thus will
become rather beastly...

-Archmonster Battle-
---------------------
Name: Blue Dragon
EXP: 500
KIM: 500
Recommended Level: 7
---------------------
There are a few differences between boss battles and normal battles:
1. Boss battles are completely side-view
2. You cannot use Magic

This is how your boss battles will be. These super-huge monsters are known as
Archmonsters. The Blue Dragon is your first one, and it really isn't all that
hard to beat. As long as you're as far left side of the screen, the Blue
Dragon will not touch you. The strategy here is to come in just as it is
lowering its head. Get in 1 or two swings on the head, then back up before
it lunges at you. It will pick up its head again. Wait for it to drop its
head again and repeat until its head falls off.

Once the king is defeated, the guards that were blocking off a certain room
will be gone. Enter that room and go down the stairs. You will find the real
King inside, who says that he was captured and placed in the dungeon while
a Cartahenan monsters posed as himself. He gives you the Ring of Sky and tells
you to go to Watling over to the east.

If you took damage, rest up. Save again and talk to the same guy in the house
by the gate who gave you the map last time. He will give you a Map to the
Watling area. Exit Parma.

Recommended Level: 7
Recommended Spell: Ferros

The road isn't too long, but it can be a long trip if you're not prepared.
There is a Gem Shield in the northern part of the area, so grab this and
equip it.

Coyote Kobolds will be difficult to handle, but Ferros will make quick work
of them. The rest shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If by the time you reach the Man in the middle of the road you still feel
strong or are about to level up, then head for the southwestern part of this
area. Here you can find 500 Kim total and a Sapphire Shield. The Sapphire
shield has a slightly better AC as the Gem Shield, but can be sold for 2000
Kim (whereas the Gem Shield only goes for 13). Equip it for now and head
westward to Watling.

-Watling-
In Watling you will find a bunch of confused old people. This is odd, don't
you think? Enter the house in the upper-right hand corner of town and talk
to the 24 year "old" man inside. He tells of a monster in Verlin's Cave that
took the youth of everybody. He gives you a map to Northern Watling and asks
that you kill the monster. Well, might as well. Rest up (for free) and save.
Exit town.

Take the path closest to the village to continue.

B-type Neophytes can be a bit of a task to kill and they do hurt, so stay
clear of their magic. Needlers will poison you if you touch them, but they

Use your Lantern that you found to light this place up. A couple new monsters
to watch out for. The Gray Ooze is stronger than the Red Glunk, but nothing
you haven't fought before. The Creeper can be a challenge, since they will
endlessly pursue you. Attack them when their orbs are not facing you, else
they will hurt you.

There is 600 Kim in the chest in the lower-left hand corner of this floor
if you wish to get it. Get the Map on your way up to the upper part. It
doesn't matter which ladder you take going down, though the one in the
upper-right corner of the map will take you to where you need to go quicker.

On the 2nd floor, you can grab the Map and the Herbs if you wish, but if
you took the upper-right ladder, you should quickly get to a Man standing
still. Heal up then talk to him. He admits to stealing the youth and will so
steal your's.

-Archmonster Battle-
---------------------
Name: Cyclops
EXP: 1000
KIM: 1000
Recommended Level: 9
---------------------

This battle is really easy. The Cyclops moves so slow that you can easily
slash this thing to death. Move in slowly and wait for it to move its hand
back and watch its face move. It will shoot a bolt of lightning down at the
floor from his hand. Move back when he does this, then go in and continue to
slash. When his other hand does the same, just move back again. Repeat this
and soon he will lose his right hand. Finish off with a few more slashes and
this monster is toast.

If you wish to finish the dungeon, feel free. Just head back to Watling
when you are done.

-Watling-
Don't stay at the Inn if you can help it, as you will get charged a heavy fee
even if you stayed just once before defeating the Cyclops. Save at the Church
and talk to the man who gave you the map before. He will mention that you
talk to the villagers about the Rings. The villagers will mention that Kings
usually have rings, and that Deepdale is the closest town to them. The man
to the left side of the Inn will give you a Map to Deepdale. Exit when you
are ready.

T: Deepdale
?: Traveler

Monsters: Rattler, Neophyte (B), Needler, Cave Bat, Creeper (A)
Recommended Level: 9
Recommended Spell: Ferros

Keep this in mind: Rattler's hurt! Rattlers hit very hard, but on the good
side, one shot of Ferros can kill one. Don't be afraid to use it against
them. Anyway, the road to Deepdale is short (thankfully), so just continue
southwest until you reach the town.

-Deepdale-
Finally, you can upgrade your equipment. You should have plenty of money
saved up by now, so buy a Silver Sword, Platinum Shield, and Crystal Armor.
Also, buy the Volti spell from the spell shop. Though this spell works
great against the Fire Rings, I find it a very hard spell to use. It cost
twice as much as Ferros, but Ferros will at least hit something that is around
you. However, a monster with some sort of spell surrounding it like a Creeper
can be hard with Ferros, so a straight-shot spell can do the trick. Don't
sell your Ferros book yet though, as that can still come in handy.

Anyways, go to the castle and talk to... well, I guess the King's minister.
They say that the King is not around. Talk around town and you will learn
that the King is a master of disguise. The woman by the item shop says to
check the castle again. The maid says that the king sometimes wears a disguise
and blends in with the common people. Inside the left room is a man wearing
blue who will tell you that the king loves truffles (who doesn't?) and that
they can be found in Breman's Cave to the west. He gives you a map to the
cave.

Exit the castle and buy a Lantern and a couple Poison Balms at the shop.
There is a little secret here in town that will help you out. If you go south
all the way to the wall and then all the way to the right, you will be between
the pond and the wall. Face up and use the Seek command to regain all your
lost HP. Use this when you need to charge up. Exit town.

-Vermilion-
Now that you know the water trick, take this time to level up to level 10.
When you are set, head west.

There is plenty of money in the chests around here. B-type Flamers are really
easy to defeat, as all they do is teleport around. B-type Creepers on the
other hand are nearly impossible with a sword, as they will stab you and
stab you hard. Luckily only about 2 of them can show up at a time. Use Volti
on them to waste them.

Recommended Level: 10

Puffballs are the new addition. Be very careful of them (especially B-type)
as they can poison you. Use Volti on the B-types.

The first floor is nothing special. The Map is in the upper-left corner and
there is 700 Kim in the chest at the bottom. If you want a little extra
money, you can grab the Large Shield. Make your way to the 2nd floor.

The 2nd floor isn't much different. The Map is located at Location B. The
Magic Shield and Metal Armor are nothing special, but are worth money, so
grab them. The Truffles are in the upper-left hallway facing north (just
go to the ?). Once you have them, make your way out and back to Deepdale.

-Deepdale-
With Truffles at hand, enter the house on the left by the entrance to town.
Talk to the man and he will ask for the Truffles, revealing that he is the
King. He gladly gives you the Ring of Wind and asks that you don't tell
anyone where he is.

Talk to the man near the right side of the church and he will give you a map
that leads to Stow (Eastern Deepdale & Stow Area). Rest/Drink if you need it,
and save. Buy a couple Medicines and make sure you have a couple of Poison
Balms. Exit town when ready.

If you find yourself running low on MP, switch over to Ferros, though it
will do nothing against the Pythons. Ignore the cave you see and head
southeast. The Pythons and Conjurers make the trip even harder, so run if you
need to. You should soon reach the town of Stow.

-Stow-
It seems that everybody is very busy... too busy to even talk. Even the King
is a very busy man. Copperos is a decent spell to have, as it shoots a flame
at your enemy, which then spreads out into a circle, then closes in on the
enemy, hitting any enemy nearby. Though it's not a very protective spell like
Ferros, it is still worth getting. Rest up and Save. Buy a Lantern and a
couple of Medicines, as well as a Griffin Wing and Gnome Stone (if you didn't
grab it on your way), then head back northwest to the cave you missed before.

Though the monsters here won't give you a lot of trouble, the Basher does
take a lot of abuse (lucky they are so slow and stupid that it doesn't matter).
Grab the Lantern first if you want another one, then grab the Map and the 850
Kim in the lower-right side of the screen. Make your way to floor 2.

Grab the Skeleton Armor ASAP and equip it. Grab the map just below the
ladder (located at B), then head straight for the upper-left corner. Talk to
the little girl there and she will offer to sell you the Sanguios book of
spells for 1000 Kim. What a steal! Complete HP recovery for only TWO MP. Grab
it and make your way out (if you are too weak, just use the Gnome Stone and
Griffin Wing). Head back to Stow.

-Stow-
Before seeing the King, just heal up and save. Fight outside of town for
a while, healing with Sanguios. Whatever you do, do NOT sell your Sangua
book of spells. Anyway, I personally get to at least level 15 using this
book, so do a lot of fighting outside of town. After you reach 15, head to
the castle and talk to the King. He says that he knows about you and is
about to give you his ring, but then sees the Sanguios Book of spells that
was stolen from him. He calls you a thief and takes the book and your Rings,
saying to prove your innocence. Well well, let's go talk to that little girl
again. Save and head back to the Sanguios Cave.

-Sanguios Cave, Floor 2-
Head back to the girl. Before talking to her, heal up completely. Talk to
her. Don't believe her when she proclaims her innocence, and she will say
that she just borrowed it.

-Archmonster Battle-
---------------------
Name: Blue Demon
EXP: 3000
KIM: 3000
Recommended Level: 15
---------------------

This is probably one of the hardest Archmonsters to fight. She doesn't move
at all, but she does throw some nasty fireballs. The key here is to know
how to handle them. If she shoots fire from her right hand (HER right hand,
meaning it's the one on the left of the screen), the fire will go up. Those
ones you want to duck. If she shoots fire from her left hand (right on the
screen), the fire will go towards your feet. Slash those. It shouldn't take
long to kill at this level, but the fire will still hurt. To make things
easier, duck until she fires. If it goes low, slash. Once the fire passes,
move closer. By the time you are at her right hand, you can easily destroy
it. Just keep slashing away after that and she will fall.

Talk to her again and she will apologize, saying that she makes a living
off things she steals. She goes back to Stow to apologize to the people. Head
back to Stow.

-Stow-
Sorry my foot! All the people in town are injured now! Talk to the King and
he will say that the little girl did come by and stole all the rings and
went to Asti's Cave. He says that the Tavern keeper has a map to Asti's Cave.
Grab it, rest up, buy a Lantern, some Medicine, a Gnome Stone,  a
Griffin Wing, and some Poison Balm, then save. Exit Stow and head east.

The path is pretty straight forward, and the monsters aren't that tough.
Just head to Keltwick.

-Keltwick-
First things first, buy an Alarm Clock and a Griffin Wing from the item
shop in town. In the spell shop, buy Luminos (no more Lanterns for you),
Toxios (no more Poison Balm for you either) and Chrono. Chrono will freeze
your enemies in their tracks, allowing you to either run from an ambush, or
trash them. It does wear off quickly, but it does allow for a quick escape.

Anyways, the doctor is located upstairs at the Inn. Talk to him and he says
that he is having trouble waking up. Use the Alarm Clock to wake him up. Talk
to him again and he says that he will go to Stow as soon as he is ready. Exit
town and walk back to Stow.

-Stow-
It seems the doctor made it there just fine. Talk to the King and he will
give you the book of Sanguia spells. Now you can see your Sangua book. The
King says that you should visit Malaga. Rest up and save, then return to
Keltwick first.

-Keltwick-
Once back at Keltwick, talk to the boy by the house in the upper-right corner
of town. He will say that his father went to Blazon's Cave to find the
Poison Shield for you, but has not come back. He asks that you go find him.
If you talk to the man next to him, he will give you a map to Malaga. The
man above the Inn has the map to Western Keltwick.

Rest up, save, and exit town. Head west.

Now that you don't need Lanterns, cast Luminos to light up the cave. There
is only one chest besides the Map (which is in the bottom part of the cave),
and that's the Emerald Armor. Make sure you get this before going onto the
2nd floor (it is in the upper part of the floor). By the time you reach the
ladder going down, you will find the little boy's father. He says that he
was once a servant of Tsarkon but turned from him. He went to get the Poison
shield for you, but cannot defeat the monsters. He returns to Keltwick. Go
down the ladder.

If you want some money, take a right at the fork and eventually you will find
1000 Kim. Grab the Map and you will see that there are 4 long hallways on
the left part of the cave. Take the furthest path on the left to get the
Poison Shield and equip it immediately (no more fear of Poison). Also,
there is a Mirage Sword just 3 halls down from the Poison Shield. Grab this
as well. Once you have it, get out of there. Return to Keltwick.

-Keltwick-
Talk to Bearwulf in his home (near where the boy was) and he will give you
the Dungeon Key, which allows you to open the door to the Malaga Passage.
Rest, save, and exit.

The remaining path to Malaga is just as simple as the rest. Enter town.

-Malaga-
Okay, this town is fairly weird. There is no King because he just died, and
his two ministers are fighting over who should become King, thus the town
is divided between those who follow Thar and those who follow Luther. Also,
it seems that the Princess Wynifir is tied into this because whomever she
chooses has to be her suitor. Sounds like you should get involved.
Before going to the castle, whatever you do, do NOT enter the item shop YET.

At the weapon shop, buy your inventory full of Silver Armors, and sell the
rest of your old equipment (save for your Emerald Armor, hang onto that for
a second. You can also save the Poison Shield if you wish). Next go to the
spell shop. Sell your Copperos and Volti books of spells. Buy one Aries book
(which allows you to teleport from town to town) and stock up the rest on
Aerios. Rest at the Inn and save.

Now, why did I have you do all that? Simple. You are about to lose ALL your
money and all your swords just by stepping foot inside the item shop. Why
are you doing this? Because later in the game this will pay off BIG time.
Go to the item shop now. Once you talk to the shop owner, he will try to
sell you 3 items, each of which have no price, are useless, and he will not
let you leave until you buy something. Buy something and he will say that
you cannot afford it. He will take all your money and your sword, but then
will give you an Iron Sword, then tells you to go away.

Head back to the spell shop and sell all of your Aerios books (except for
1, which you may want to keep). Now go to the equipment shop and sell all
of your Silver Armors except for 1 as well as your Emerald Armor and *laughs*
Iron Sword. Now buy a Golden Sword. Though the Knight Armor and Diamond
Shield are better pieces of equipment, you will soon find pieces of
equipment even better than those, so why waste your leftover money?

Enter the castle and talk to the Princess. She will say that she has been
waiting for you and begs that you help. The town has no King, and Thar
and Luther wish to become King to further their own greedy plans. Her father
secretly gave the Ring of Water to a man named Bruno, who hides in Harmony
Cave to the east. She gives you a map and begs you to find him. Talk to
Thar and Luther, who will not say much but will mention the Ring of Water.
Talk to the rest of the people in the castle and they will say that whomever
has the Ring of Water shall wed the Princess and rule Malaga.

Save your game and exit. Head east.

The first part of this cave pretty straight forward. The only side path leads

that he will give you the Ring of Water if you can find the Crown. Take
the stairs going down.

There is a Phantom Shield in the upper-right side of the cave behind the
door. Don't equip it, but hang onto it (because the Poison Shield will still
protect you, but the Phantom Shield is stronger). The map is in the middle
(located at B). Make your way to the ladder in the lower part of the cave.

Back on the first floor, just head to the path behind the door to find the
Crown. Make your way back up top. Talk to Bruno again. He will give you the
Ring of Water and proclaims you the King of Malaga (finally, a kingdom...
not that it matters, you still have work to do). Head back to Malaga.

-Malaga-
Time to take out the trash. Head to the castle and talk to Thar and Luther.
They both vow revenge then disappear. Before exiting the castle, talk to

buy some Medicine and an Agate Jewel (which will restore a little MP).

The Red Eye and Cobra are really your only problem monsters here, but Chrono

Though this is your first 3-level cave, this really isn't all that complicated.
Go north at the fork for the map. Two hallways above the ladder going down is
a chest with 2000 Kim. Go down the ladder.

Going north at the fork again will lead you to the map if you go straight.
The only other interesting part to this floor is that there is a chest
directly to the left of the ladder on the map. This contains 3000 Kim. Go
down the ladder.

Go south at the fork for the map. The last 3 chests that contain anything
are at the upper part. The top-most path going left has a powerful Graphite
Sword. The 3rd path going right from the top (located at E) has 2000 Kim,
and the 2nd path going left from the top (located at C) has 8000 Kim. Grab
them and exit. Return to Barrow.

-Barrow-
Rest at the Inn and save. If you want to keep half of the 15000 Kim you found,
don't talk to the old man who gave you the map. If you feel guilty (why should

Tadcaster seems even stranger than Malaga. The people here FEAR you. When
you talk to the King, he will mention that he already gave you the ring.
Odd. Exit the castle and talk to the guard by the fountain in the middle.
He calls you master and asks how you got here so quickly from Darmon's
Cave. He then realizes that you are not his master then he along with his
other guards, will attack you. All they are are Zombies, so they should
easily go down.

After you defeat them, everybody believes that you are not the one who
has been picking on them. Talk to the King again and he will say that he
is sorry, but that the imposter still has the Ring of Sun. Exit the castle.
The man on the left side of the Fortune Teller's shop has a map to Darmon's
Cave.

Now that you have the map, head to the equipment shop. Buy a Diamond Sword,
Knight Shield, and Ultimate Armor here. Make sure you keep your Poison
Shield, as you still may need it (if you find yourself poisoned a lot).

If you need to rest, you're out of luck, since there is no Inn here. However,
you can use Aries to fly to Wyclif (cheapest place) and fly back to

The only treasures in this cave are the maps, so this shouldn't take too long.
The map to the first floor is to the left of the ladder. After this, there
are two ladders going down. Take the one in the upper-left side.

The map here is in between both of the ladders. Grab it and go up the ladder
at the bottom.

The rest is easy. At the fork go left and follow until you reach the men.
They cheer that they are free and return to Helwig. You might as well head
back as well.

-Helwig-
It seems like everybody is happy... except for the old lady at the north
end of town. She asks that you help her find somebody. She gives you a sketch
of herself. Well, this is a little side quest. Fly to Keltwick.

-Keltwick-
There is an old man above the church who is just as lonely as the old woman.
Show him the sketch and talk to him. She likes it and gives you a sketch of
himself. Before you shudder to think what the sketches could be about, talk
to him again and he will tell you the location of the Crimson Armor (not that
you need it, but it is located by the tree in Northern Keltwick... in the
path I told you to ignore earlier). Fly back to Helwig.

-Helwig-
Show the old woman the sketch of the old man. She enjoys it and says that
she will write him a letter. She then gives you the Dragon Shield for your
trouble. You'll like the Dragon Shield, as it is the 2nd strongest one in the
game.

Anyways, the man to the left side of the church says that he found a key in
the caves. He then gives you the Secret Key. A woman above the church gives
you a map to Swaffham. Rest and save, then exit town.

The path is annoying to go through and the Vampire Bats will eat you alive.
Aerios takes care of them quickly though. Head west to Swaffham.

-Swaffham-
The first thing you want to do is upgrade your equipment, since this will
be the last time you can do that. This is also the home of the best equipment.
Buy an Ultimate Sword, Diamond Armor, and Carmine Shield (I know you just
got the Dragon Shield, but the Carmine one is the best in the game). There
are no spells worth getting in the spell shop, so just hang onto what money
you have left.

Talk to the King inside the castle. He says that he has the Ring of Earth,
but will not give it away for free. He wants the White Crystal from the
Ivory Cave. He says that the Dark Demon guards the crystal. He gives you
the White Key. Exit the castle.

Now you will run into two problems. One, there is no Inn, and two, nobody
has a Map to the Ivory Cave. Fly to Wyclif to heal then save at the church.
Exit town.

Now the game is really going to get interesting. If you thought the game
was easy so far, this is where the challenge TRULY begins. If you thought
the game was challenging enough, then prepare to meet an even bigger one.
Light up and use the White Key on the gate. If you go north from here
you will find the map. Where you want to go towards is the gate in the

Go to the end and face your worst nightmare.

-Archmonster Battle-
---------------------
Name: Dark Demon
EXP: 10000
KIM: 15000
Recommended Level: 21
---------------------
It really doesn't matter which level you're at, this boss will be tough.
The key to victory is to be patient. He moves, flies, and breathes fire.
Every other Archmonster in the game either moves really slowly or stay
put, but this one moves fast. When you gain control, move close to it. It
will fly up and move either left or right. If it moves left, go right to get
behind it and stay a fair distance away from it. If it moves right, follow
it and stay in front of it. When it lands, get a couple slashes in and back
away so his fire doesn't hit you. The next move depends on what it does
again. If it flies up, get behind it to the right again. If it moves towards
you, back up. If by the time it lands it is on the left hand side, stay at
the middle and wait for him to fly in front of you again. If it is in the
middle by the time it lands, wait for it to fly up and move right towards
you. Get in front of it again and slash away.

They key I figured out was to NEVER let it corner you. This is difficult to
do, but you have to do the cornering. Keep hammering away and staying a
good distance from it when it has stopped. It will soon die.

If you should die, don't fret and don't hit the reset button. Yes you will
lose half of your money, but you keep all your experience. By this time in
the game, money is nothing. All you need to really complete this game is
about 150,000 Kim, and that's fairly easy to get between now and the time
you need to use it. After it dies, grab the White Crystal from the chest
and head back to Swaffham.

-Swaffham-
Talk to the King again. Give him the White Crystal and the King will say
that he decided against giving you the ring (why of all the nerve!). But
he may give it to you if you bring him the Red Crystal from the Ruby Cave
(which is guarded by the Blood Demon). He gives you the Red Key and shoos
you away. Rest at Wyclif and save at the church. Exit Swaffham and head
west.

If you head to the ladder going up (located at 3) you can easily find the

map is at the lower-left hand corner of the floor. After you get a map,
head to the gate on the left side of the floor. Heal up and when you are

because it does hit harder, but the strategy is exactly the same). Just
stick and move and you should defeat this one easily.

Once it is dead, grab the Red Crystal and get out of there. Return to

Talk to the King and he still won't give you the ring. He wants you to

This is the largest dungeon in the game, and there is only one treasure in the
dungeon other than the maps and Blue Crystal. First off, if you want the
map to the 2nd floor, go north at the fork and follow to the ladder. Turn
around, step, and there is the map. Go back up the ladder and follow the
path to the other ladder.

On the 2nd floor, go forward until you come to a fork. If you want the map
to the 1st floor, take a right and go up the ladder and follow until you
get the map (located at A, though it is a ways to go to get it). Either way,
just follow the path to the ladder going down.

Follow the given path to the 4th floor. On the 4th floor, again just follow
the given path. You can easily grab the map on this floor on your way. If
you want the map to the 5th floor, instead of taking the ladder after following
the path, go east and follow to the map. Go up the ladder.

Back on the 4th floor, if you take the first side path you come to you will
go back down to floor 5. Do so and head for the gate. Behind the gate is a
Critical Sword, which is the 2nd best sword in the game. Head back for the
stairs you came from.

Back again on the 4th floor, go west at the fork to the next ladder going
up. Follow the path until you see a gate to your right. Open it and go
inside to your left for a map of the 3rd floor. Head for the ladder.

Since you have the map to this floor, head to the left side to the gate.
Heal up and open the gate. Go forward.

He keeps hitting you, just do the best you can to strike back. The
Critical Sword will do much more damage.

After defeating the final demon, grab the Blue Crystal. Exit and return to
Swaffham.

-Swaffham-
Talk to the King again. He will cheer with glee that you gave him all three
crystals, but will forget about the ring. Angrily, he gives you the Ring of
Earth. Exit the castle, fly to Wyclif, and save at Swaffham.

These caves are actually quite simple, but can be lengthy. The first cave is
rather easy, and the best part is that Maps are definitely not worth your
time to get. Note that there is a second floor here as well, but what is
downstairs is not worth it (just a map). Just follow the path. If you want
the map, take a right  when you come to the fork. Just take the next ladder
out of the cave.

Outside, follow north to the fork. If you go east you'll run into the Old
Man again with a Map to the area. Go back and take the other path to the
2nd cave.

The map to this cave is actually straight ahead if you follow the path. You
want to get to the ladder in the upper-right corer. The road winds around a
lot, but it should be manageable.

Once outside again, just follow the path south to the final cave.

The final cave is real short. Follow until you come to a fork, then go north.
Take the ladder downstairs. Once on floor 2, go east at the first fork, then
south. Follow to the ladder leading up. On the 1st floor again, go south at
the fork and you're out.

There really isn't much to do except to make the final run to Excalabria.

-Excalabria-
Before you ask why the town is in shambles, remember what happened on that
day 18 years ago (gotta love the music, gives you a feel of destruction).
There is nothing here except the hold man in a ruined house at the north
end of town. Talk to him. His name is Knute and says that he was one of
King Erik's most trusted servants. When he sees the rings, he realizes that
the Ring of Earth is a fake (damned King of Swaffham). Exit town and fly to
Swaffham.

-Swaffham-
What is this you're seeing? You thought you warped to Excalabria but you
wanted Swaffham? This is Swaffham... at least was. The King is outside the
castle, dying. He says that Cartahena attacked and either killed or drove
away the rest of the people. And the worst part is, they stole his treasures
that you worked so hard to get... but more importantly they took the true
Ring of Earth. Fly back to Excalabria.

-Excalabria-
Knute says that Tsarkon has the three remaining Rings that you must find.
I guess now you have to visit Tsarkon and give him a little payback. Fly
to Wyclif to heal and save. Fly back to Excalabria and take the path going
south.

This cave has far too many doors, and if you want anything out of here you
will need the Secret Key (in Helwig if you didn't get it before). In fact,
this cave is pretty useless unless you want to learn the Ultra Strength trick.
However, this place still has some good experience. The target here is the
Death Sword (located at B). Too many doors to name, so look at the map to find
out where it is. Exit when you are set.

Fly to Wyclif, rest, save, and return to Excalabria.

The only thing of interest here is a chest worth 9999 Kim in the path
leading north from the fork. Get it and head east to Hastings.

-Hastings-
There are quite a few people to talk to here. The first one is the old man
near the tree in the southeast part of town. He says that he escaped
Excalabria and he buried an item that lets you see the world without maps
under the tree in Excalabria.

The 2nd guy is the old man just above the old man you just talked to (near
the church). He says that he was a servant of King Erik's. He says that
someone who you thought was an enemy is actually a friend in taking something
of your's just to make it stronger.

The 3rd is the man in front of the Inn. He used to work in a shop in
Swaffham but left because of the King. He left a treasure there in his shop.

The 4th man is inside the church (the man furthest to the left). He says that
you need a pass to enter Cartahena and that one can be found in Barrow.

Now before leaving to find these treasures, go to the Magic Shop. There are
3 books here that are handy: Sanguio, Chronios, and Terrafissi. Buy Sanguio
and Terrafissi at the moment. If you have more than 70000 Kim to spare,
buy Chronios as well, else that can wait. Fly to Excalabria.

-Excalabria-
From the left side of the tree, look at the tree and Seek it. You will find
Titania's Mirror. Using this will give you a temporary map of the current
area (though not a dungeon). You will lose this map when you get into a fight,
but you can always reuse it. Fly to Swaffham.

-Swaffham-
Enter the first ruined building to your left. Seek the right side of it
to find Rafael's Stick. This item will remove curses and is great to use if
you are planning on using the Invincibility or Ultra Strength tricks. Fly
to Barrow.

-Barrow-
Hug the right side of the town until you meet a woman in red. She reveals
a hidden path in the trees. Go right until you come to a house. Talk to
Uncle Tibor inside and pay him 50000 Kim for the Pass to Cartahena. Fly to
Malaga.

-Malaga-
Remember the jerk from the item shop who took your money and your sword?
Well, talk to him. He will apologize for his actions and explains that he
was rude because of Cartahenan spies. He then gives you the most powerful
sword in the game. The SWORD OF VERMILION!!!! Equip it and fly back to
Hastings.

-Hastings-
Rest at the Inn. Head to the house above the Tavern and talk to the lady
inside. She makes a meal for you. Talk around and they will say that you
look sick. Go back to the woman and she will say that she poisoned your
food and that you will die. She then disappears. Before you even try Toxios,
a Poison Balm, or the Church, it won't work. Talk to the woman to the right
of the spell shop. She will mention that the Digot Plant can cure the poison,
but it's only in the Whisby Cave to the east. Save and exit, heading east.

You want to find the Digot Plant ASAP. To do that, go west from the fork
then north to the ladder. On the 2nd floor, follow to the fork and go
south. After turning to go west, go to the first path going north. Go up
the ladder, turn around, go forward, and there is the Digot Plant. Use the
Digot Plant and you will be cured.

Now, why did I have you do that? Because... well... this is where you can
get the armor for the Invincibility Trick. That and there is some good
EXP here. Use Extrios and start over again.

From the beginning, instead of going north to the ladder like before, go
south to the ladder. On the next floor, go south at the fork and take any
other path going south you can find. Follow to the ladder going up (located
at 5). Wind your way around the path until you find the Old Nick Armor.
Exit and head back to Hastings.

Try not to fight if you can help it. Unlock the door and follow the path

North to the ladder going down (which will lead you to the Mirror of Atlas.
Use the Mirror to gain all the maps in the game.) Back on the 2nd floor,
going south to the ladder (located at u) will lead you to a Secret Armor,
which is the strongest armor in the game. Equip it and go to the ladder in
the upper-right side of this portion of the map (located at x). Follow this
path and you will eventually see a person. This is Thar. You remember him

If you remember how you defeated the Blue Demon (twice) back in Stow, this
shouldn't be a problem. Stay down as much as you can and make your way
towards the right hand. Just hack away and Thar will die.

Thar drops the Silver Key. Use it on the door behind you to unlock it and
get the Ring of Sun. Heal and make your way back to where you got the Mirror
of Atlas. Take the other ladder here (located at 0). Follow until you are
back at the first floor. Go to the gate and you will find the lady who
poisoned you back in Hastings, and boy is she mad.

-Archmonster Battle-

This can't get any easier. You just killed the Gold Dragon, and the Red
Dragon is no different. Use the same strategy, try not to get hit, and be
happy that you leveled up to 30.

The lady drops the Bronze Key. Grab it and unlock the gate behind her, which
leads to the real Ring of Earth. Now you want to head to the ladder closest
to you (located at 2). On Floor 2, go south at the fork to the next ladder.
Take the next two ladders all the way up to the first floor. You will now
be close to the entrance. Go towards the gate to the lower-left of the map.
Before you can reach it, you will run into Luther. He admits to destroying
Swaffham and still vows his revenge.

-Archmonster Battle-
---------------------
Name: Red Cyclops
EXP: 30000
KIM: 25000
Recommended Level: 30
---------------------
This battle is just as easy as the first time you fought a Cyclops. Go
forward and attack. When it raises its arm and moves its lips, step back and
wait for the lightning to pass. Charge him and slash away until he tries it
again. It shouldn't be too hard to beat.

After Luther is defeated, pick up the Gold Key and unlock the door behind him
to get the Ring of Power. You also should now be at Level 31, which is as
high as it gets. Go back to the ladder you just came from. Go all the way
back to floor 3 and then back up to floor 2 (through the ladder located at
w). Go down the ladder directly north of it.

Go until you reach a gate. Use the Bronze Key and go up the ladder behind
it. At the next gate, use the Silver Key and go up the ladder behind this
gate. Use the Gold Key behind the final gate. Heal up completely before
going through.

Now you've come face to hood with Tsarkon. He calls you son (because he
married your mother). Deny his request to rule the world with him and the
fight will ensue.

-Archmonster Battle-
---------------------
Name: Tsarkon
EXP: 0
KIM: 0
Recommended Level: 31
---------------------
Is this all he is throwing at you? This is exactly the same as the
Necromancer battle earlier. Just slash your way through the skeletons and
make your way to him. Just continue to slash away at him until he falls...

However, once you kill him, the battle does not end there. Move back as far
away as you can and as fast as you can. This isn't over yet. Tsarkon becomes
this huge two-headed beast that shoots fire at an angle. Tsarkon hits very
hard and this battle will take a long time. Not because he takes a lot of
damage (because he really doesn't), but because he moves his heads around
quickly. Be thankful that he doesn't move otherwise.

Anyways, much like the Demon battles from Swaffham, patience is key here.
Wait for both of their heads to line up one behind the other. When they are
down as far as they can go, slash at the one that doesn't go up quickly,
then back away from the fire. Continue this process and eventually it will
start to shrink. Attack the longest head until they are both even, then
repeat the procedure. The hardest part comes after you shrink them about 2
times each. They are then harder to hit because it doesn't take them so long
to go to the top and at that point you still can't slash them up top. Be
patient and persistent, but stay away from the fire. Once the heads are close
to the body, the rest is history.

Talk to Tsarkon again and he will thank you for freeing him from the evil.
He tells the story that him and King Erik started to collect the rings of
evil and thus became evil. Tsarkon turned faster, and after killing King
Erik, tried to kill himself but could not. He asks that you return to
Cartahena. He then dies.

There will be no more monsters from this point on, so you can either walk or
use Extrios and Aries to fly back to Cartahena.

-Cartahena-
It seems that everybody is alive and well here. You can talk around if you
want, but the real ending is at the castle. The ministers of King Erik that
you saw in Hastings will be there, as well as your mother. She says that
when she refused to be Tsarkon's wife, he turned her to stone. To end the
game, face the throne and use the Sixteen Rings. Only then will you finally
hear yourself talk. Enjoy the ending.

IX. Tips & Tricks
===============================================================================
-Sound Test-
After you defeat the game and at the end of the credits, if you insert a
2nd controller and push A, B, C, and Start on it, you will gain access to the
Sound Test.

I have also found out that this DOES work on the Wii. Just use a 2nd Wiimote
and push A, 1, 2, and + to access it or on a 2nd Classic Controller, Y, B, A,
and +. If you don't have a 2nd Wiimote, a Gamecube Controller will do the
trick as well. Plug it into gamecube port 2 and push Y, A, X, and Start.
Using the Input test on the Wii will lock the game up (but you can still
access the menu.

-Easy Money-
After you get the Dungeon Key from the man in Keltwick, you can sell it for
1000 Kim at the item shop. You can then go back to this same man and get
another one. Do this for as long as you want.

-Super Strength-
When you first find the Dark Sword in Eastern Parma you can do this trick
as long as you have a few hundred Kim. Go to the church in Parma and equip
the Dark Sword. Remove the curse at the church for a bit of money, then do it
one more time. Your STR will jump to about 5000+ (and trust me, even at the
end of the game this is still far more than what you will get at level 31).
Equip a Sword and it will go down to around 2000 or so, and when you level up
it will stick around 1500 (still more than being at 31 with the Sword of
Vermilion).

-Ultra Strength-
This is better when you reach level 31. Use either the Death Sword or Dark
Sword (zombies drop them) and Raphael's Stick. Use the same procedure as
above, only using the stick to remove the curse instead of the church. This
time, instead of stopping at 5000, keep going back to 0 until it loops to
around 9000. Equip any sword and it will drop to about 7000 or so. Still
enough to kill anything in one shot.

-Invincibility-
Do this trick at level 31 as well. The Old Nick Armor and Raphael's Stick
are required for this part. Equip the Poison Shield if you still have it
and then equip the Old Nick Armor. Use the same procedure as the above trick
until you reach 9000 AC. You can stop completely right there without even
having to equip another piece of armor. Now every time you take a hit, you
will only lose 1 HP.

-Battle Strategy-
This may be common knowledge, and it may not be, but a good way to kill
enemies is to group them together. You may notice that some enemies when
they run from you will run into another monster and neither of them will
move. If you can move yourself around so that they do this, it makes kills
all the easier.

-Some spells aren't worth it-
Although all Field spells are worth it. Selecting the right spell is always
key, but a lot of these spells just don't make sense to get. Here are the
spells that I believe are worth getting at a certain point.

Ferros: It's your first spell and it will help you for a while.
Volti: Your 2nd attack spell, and though it may cost more, it keeps you
      away from the poison enemies.
Chrono: Though it only stops enemies for 5 seconds, that's still plenty for
       that point in the game.
Aerios: The only surround spell that really helps throughout the remainder
       of the game.
Terrafissi: This is a great instant kill spell, but using it too much can
           really drain your MP.
Chronios: This stops enemies for 15 seconds. Though, like Chrono, it doesn't
work on all enemies, Obliterators crumble under this.
