Notice: Wark, wark! Kupo, kupo! YES! Got a scanned KotM2 manual from this great
guy named Laladien of the GameFAQs message boards! Go to:
www.geocities.com/asterazul/King_of_the_Monsters_2.html
to get an original and illustrated KotM2 Genesis manual! Manual contains a
complete moves list! Hooray! Very special thanks to Laladien!
My latest desire is to find a WORKING rom of a King of the Monsters 1 arcade
game. I've only seen non-working roms so far-- they're missing some of the
important parts. If you can find a working KotM2 1 Arcade ROM, let me know!
You'll be my new best freind ^_^
I am also now accepting reader strategies for any monster. Aqua Slug could
probably do with a new strategy. Now that all his secret moves are known a more
aggressive tactic would probably work. If you're interested in writing an
"unfair mode" strategy ("Timer: on" and "Items: on" is what I call "unfair
mode") you can submit that, too. Many new doors are opened for character
strategies now that this treasure trove, the original instruction manual, has
been rediscovered. Help me out, KotM2 fans!
OK, so I didn't correct the moves names in the walkthroughs. It takes waaaaay
too much time. I figure that my names for the moves are so interesting that it
won't really matter to you anyway. Enjoy!

A. General Tips
* The computer is not playing on equal grounds with you. The level-8 computer
has more life, more powerful stats, and instantaneous special attacks. To even
the odds, turn off the items. This will make it so you have an equal lifebar
with the computer and a full power level (meaning you can use all your special
attacks immediately.)
* Special Moves are often very useful in this game. The joystick motion is done
first and the button pressing slightly afterward. The timing may take some
getting used to, but you will get it eventually.
* Grapples are won by quickly executing yout grapple move. It has nothing to do
with how fast you press a certain button (unless the grapple move says "push _
very fast.") Learn to do the moves quickly so you can toss your opponent before
it tosses you.
* When a battle starts, get out of the way! Your enemy will probably start by
shooting some kind of projectile.
* When an enemy becomes dazed (signified by a high pitched Godzilla-type roar
and a dazed animation) HURRY UP and attack! Pull off a special attack if you
can, but a normal attack will do if you don't have much time. Attacks on a
dazed character will do double damage. This is extremely useful against tough
opponents.
* Be as cheap as humanly possible, because the computer will be as cheap as
computerly possible. If you find an attack that the computer can't defend
against, be ruthless and use it as much as possible!
* Don't let your guard down! Many oppenents can be extremely cheap and take
away half your life bar with a single combo! Even if you have them at near zero
life they can defeat you in a few seconds!
* If there is a ledge in the level you can stand on top of it and hit your
opponent from there. It gives you a big advantage.
* I recommend that you always select 7 continues. Having infinity is too cheap,
but having 7 gives you many chances but not too many.
* You need a controller with good response to play this games. If your
controller has sticky buttons and such, it will drastically decrease your
gaming ability. I recommend an official Genesis Arcade Pad for this game if you
have or can find one. If any of the buttons on it are sticking, you might want
to open it up and try to fix it up.
* Keep in mind: The computer may have all sorts of advantages, but you have the
biggest advantage. You're human. You can figure out how to beat the computer
and become better at the game. The game will always be just as good.

B. Guide For Each Monster
Now accepting reader-written strategies due to new info! Send to
[email protected]!
**
1. Super Geon: Flame 'em again and again!
I recommend no timer and no items. Super Geon is an extremely good and cheap
character, so it shouldn't be too difficult to win with him.
Super Geon has many good moves. The Snake Fire attack (quarter turn towards
oppenent plus B) is very notable. It does great block damage. If this hits the
computer, it will get hurt no matter what. This is a great all-purpose move
that works against most opponents.
The Earthquake attack is also a great move. (Up, down, up, down, C) Certain
computer oppenents (like Beetle Master) just can't defend against it. You can
keep using it until they lose, just like in the arcade version of this game.
Using running jump attacks works for Super Geon. Get a running start (two taps
in the direction of your opponent) and attack in the air. It does great damage.
Your oppenent will fall if it's in the air. Try to time this move so you end up
far enough away from your oppenent so it can't retaliate.
If you grapple your opponent, use the Rear Drop (up, down, up, down, A) quickly
to win.
Notable Battles:
Huge Frogger- He's really the only hard guy. But gosh is he HARD! It's
difficult to flame him because he teleports so quickly and he is good at
stopping your ground pound attack by hitting you in the air. When he teleports
near you, use your 'A' attack to quickly hit him away. Flame him when you get
the chance. If he is at low life, you might want to use your super jump. It's a
gamble, but if you are at low life as well it may be worth it. Huge Frogger has
some really evil attacks. Try not to grapple him. If he wins, he may use his
triple jump, in which he slams you against the ground three times in a row and
obliterates more than half of your lifebar. His triple laser is also
devestating. I strongly suggest trying to attack this guy early in the matches
so that you can defeat him more easily. You may want to reset until he is your
first opponent.
**
**
2. Atomic Guy: Quick Hits and Great Speed
No timer or items for this battle.
If you get in a grapple (I would avoid them for the most part) use the suplex
(back, forth, back, forth, A.)
Atomic Guy has a number of useful strategies. I'll note each different
strategy.
-Jumping Attack Strategy: Continuously attack your opponent with a running air
attack (two taps towards oppnent, jump, and attack). Atomic Guy's speed makes
it easy to baffle oppenents with this attack. Make sure you won't land near
your opponent after finishing the move, because if you do you're in for it! If
your opponent gets close to you, kick him continuously and move upward or
downward to escape. Try getting directly below your opponent. If it jumps down
to attack you will be able to trip it with a kick. Attacks when your opponent
are in the air always make it fall down, so whenever it jumps, attack!
-Face Attack Strategy: The face attack is: A half spin starting away from your
opponent and ending towards it, and then B. This strategy involves continually
bombarding the other monster with face projectiles. They are more powerful than
the atomic cutter (back, forth, back, forth A) and are easier to use without
accidentally jumping backwards.
-Atomic Thunder Strategy: Atomic Thunder is: Up, down, up, down A. Against some
opponents that have slowly charged moves this works wonders. You can back them
into a corner and continually use the move. If you time it right, you can get
them just as they are starting to stand up.
If you get stuck, try these three strategies until you find one that works
against your opponent.
Notable Battles:
Atomic Guy- Jumping Attack Strategy is the best tactic. Stay out of this guy's
line of fire! It may take more than one try to beat this guy. He has low
defense, but he can take half your life bar with his rushing combo.
Claw Head- Very difficult unless you use the Atomic Thunder Strategy. Find a
safe place in the crook of the Grand Canyon and blast away. Use it also when
you back him into a corner or he uses one of his spitting attacks. You can
easily hit him when he uses the thousand web-ball attack.
Beetle Master- Atomic Thunder.
Aqua Slug- Atomic Thunder.
Cyber Woo- Continuous Face Attack. He won't be able to defend against it very
well. If he detaches from his legs, charge an atomic thunder in the meantime.
Eiffelelyte- Jumping Attack Strategy.
**
**
3. Cyber Woo: Spinning Torso Attack, oh the cheapness!
Timer on or off and no items.
This character is quite simply the Lord of Cheapness. You only need to know one
attack. Hold A for a few seconds and then release it to perform the Spinning
Torso Attack. While this move is going on, you are invincible. It is difficult
to dodge and does a decent amount of damage. For best results, try to be above
or below your opponent when you execute the attack. If your opponent gets a
little too close, kick the oppenent away quickly. You may lose a few battles,
but this move is good enough to pretty much carry you through the entire game.
If you want to win without using this incredibly cheap strategy, it probably
still won't be very hard. Cyber Woo is an incredibly good character. He has
powerful kicks and great moves, like the hand shot. Play with items on for more
of a challenge with Cyber Woo.
Notable Battles: Ha! There are none. You won't have any trouble at all.
**
**
4. Huge Frogger: Tripping, Jump Attacks, and Triple Laser Breath
I selected items off and time off when I beat the game with Huge Frogger, but
you may want to try turning the time on and then wearing your opponent down
with laser attacks while keeping out of the way with teleportation. When the
time runs out and you have more life, you win. Just another option, I haven't
tried it. Since your special attacks aren't particularly useful, you may want
to use items on so that you can pick up health bonuses. (Don't use time on and
items on at the same time, though.)
It is very difficult to beat the game with Huge Frogger. The best strategy is
to use relentless physical attacks. This strongly resembles one of Super Geon's
strategies.
Attack your opponent by jump attacking (run, jump, and attack). With some
opponents you can beat them easily with continuous jump attacks. Another good
trick is to "trip" your opponent. Move so that you are directly below your
opponent and wait for him to jump or walk towards you. Then give your opponent
a few good kicks. If you can knock the opponent over and daze him, either do a
jump attack or use Triple Laser Breath (down, down/toward, toward, Punch up to
three times in a row). If your opponent is at the edge of the screen DO NOT
jump attack, because you will land next to your opponent and be open for one of
those evil combos. Use a laser attack if your opponent is near a wall. Also use
Laser Breath if you are far away but your opponent is doing a move that takes
time or otherwise idle. Huge Frogger has a weak grapple attack (up, down, up,
down, A) so try to avoid them.
For some opponents you can continuously bombard them with laser attacks and
they will be unnable to cope.
Notable Battles:
Cyber Woo- *shudder* Cyber Woo... Fight this guy first or near first if you
can. Use jump attacks, Laser Breath, and tripping when the opportunity comes.
Tripping is especially useful because Cyber Woo will be dazed after only two
kick attacks. Pull of a jump attack or Laser Breath as soon as you daze him.
Have fun! Don't get too frustrated, just keep trying until you beat him.
Beetle Master- Laser, lasers, lasers. He'll be helpless if you keep zapping
him.
**
**
5. Eifflelyte: Stone Rays, Electric Smashing, and Tripping
I suggest 90 second timer and items off.
Eifflelyte is difficult to win with. He can do multiple damage hits (think
Dhalsim) but has low attack power. There is no one perfect strategy for him.
Stone Ray Bombardment: For some monsters, you can continuously use Stone Ray on
them (half moon motion, back to down to forward and punch.) They will start
jumping and get stoned or at least take block damage. Vary this sometimes by
"tripping" your opponent (wait underneath or above for your opponent to jump at
you and then kick him). Eifflelyte's attacks are weak, but they do a lot of
hits.
Electric Smashing: You can charge up your Electric Smash attack (hold kick for
2 seconds, then release) and keep hitting the opponent with it when he charges
up a projectile attack. You are invincible to all projectiles when using
Electric Smash. Just don't let your opponent get to close. Remember: when you
get hit, the charge on Electric Smash starts over so you have to wait another
two seconds.
Jumping Attacks and Tripping: Use lots of jump attacks (run and jump and
attack.) See Super Geon's Jumping Attack strategy. Eifflelyte can trap enemies
in corners and bash them a lot with his kicks and punches, too.
Notable Battles:
Lavicus- Use Electric Smashing. If you try to Stone Ray Lavicus, he'll reflect
it. Eep!
Atomic Guy- Jumping Attacks and Tripping strategy. If you get too close, he'll
combo you to death in no time so watch it. Use Electric Smashes when he charges
a projectile but don't do it continuously.
Claw Head- Stand on a ledge above him and use running kicks (run, then kick.)
Block when he spits at you, though. Also try Stone Ray Bombardment.
Aqua Slug- I think Electric Smashing him when he starts spinning would be a
good idea.
**
**
6. Claw Head: Watch Out For Quintuple Slime...
The timer is insignificant, as you will probably defeat most enemies before it
ends. No items is recommended.
Claw Head is a surprisingly good character. I had absolutely no trouble beating
the game with him. My strategy is to "trip" opponents (stand above or below
them and use your kick) with your "long alien mouth appendage" attack (the kick
attack!) The kick attack does a surprisingly large amount of damage, and it is
long range to boot. Punch is extremely fast and good for close-up attacks. If
you manage to knock out or even just knock down your enemy, quickly go up to
him and use the Quintuple Slime Attack (back, back/down, down, forward/down,
forward, jump.) With the double damage that occurs when the other monster is
dizzy, it can do about a half-lifebar of damage! Even if your opponent blocks
it will do a decent amount. Get in close so the maximum number of projectiles
collide. Practice the move so you can do it well. You can use the "Wish of
Death" attack (up, up/forward, forward, punch) to shoot at extremely long
range. This is also a great move. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do fine with this
great character.
Notable Battles: Claw Head should be pretty easy to win with.
**
**
7. Beetle Master: 100 Chops of Pain again and again and again...
As long as you pick no items, the timer is insignificant. I'd put it on timed
just so the matches don't run too long.
My Beetle Master strategy is to "trip" characters by kicking at the from above
and below (especially when they jump towards you.) Then use 100 Chops of Pain
(up, up/forward, forward, A) on them while they're getting up. If they're dizzy
they're going to take a ton of damage. If not, they'll still take a bunch of
damage. You can also use 100 Chops of Pain right after kicking or punching
another monster. Your main danger is accidentally using Sand Storm (f, b, f,
P.) Make sure you're good at using the move so you don't slip up at the wrong
time.
The Brain Ball move is not very useful. Instead use the Laser Beam (d, d/f, f,
P). With the Laser Beam you can use the continuous stream of projectiles
strategy. Use this on opponents that you'd rather stay away from.
If you fall and land close to your opponent, grapple him and use Poison Tail
(down, up, punch).
Notable Battles:
Atomic Guy: Don't use 100 Chops of Pain as he gets up. He can hit you before
you get the chance. Use it when he is stunned. Keep your distance from this
guy. Try using Laser Beam on him. Vary your strategy.
Claw Head: Don't use 100 Chops of Pain as he gets up.
Cyber Woo: Again, don't use 100 Chops of Pain as he gets up. **
**
8. Aqua Slug: Thank Heavens for Bloater Bubbles!
I suggest using the 90-second timer for this battle. I like to play this one
with no items as well, since you will otherwise have a shortened starting
lifebar.
Aqua Slug has a difficult time attacking in close up situations, so try to keep
away from your opponent.
Aqua Slug's strategy revolves around his "Bloater Bubbles" (quarter turn
towards opponent then B button). You can be VERY cheap if you use them right.
Use them continuously and your opponent will often jump right into your shots
while trying to escape! The bubbles don't do a ton of damage, but the bloating
animation gives you plenty of time to adjust your position or perhaps pick up a
handy nearby building.
Don't try to sweep in and pummel your opponent when you find its life low,
that's just asking for it. Many times I have tried that and ended up losing the
match. Most battles you won't even defeat your opponent, but simply run the
timer down.
Notable Battles:
Cyber Woo- This guy is one of the cheapest ever. Just remember that he doesn't
have a very good diagonal attack to counter your bubbles. Also, KEEP AWAY from
him! He can cut down half a life bar if he gets a good combo. Don't bother
trying to actually defeat him. Even as the timer ticks down to the last second,
keep on blowing those bubbles to keep him at bay.
Atomic Guy- This is without question the toughest enemy for Aqua Slug (with my
strategy, anyway). The reason? Atomic Guy has a lightning strike attack that he
won't hesitate to use when he needs it. If you use your bubbles too much, he'll
pull off the attack and you won't be able to get away before being zapped. It's
a good idea to vary your strategy a little by using running jump attacks. Be
careful to stay out of his direct line of fire, though. You can get a better
chance to use your bubbles if you can trap him at the edge of the screen and
start him jumping.
Final Aqua Slug- Remember to move away at the correct angle to avoid bubbles
just as the round starts, because they are his customary opening move. You will
probably NOT be able to defeat Aqua Slug normally if you are playing with the
timer. You'll simply have to make do with winning by default. This time it's a
good idea to stay IN the line of fire. You'll be able to hit him more easily
when he uses his whirlpool and any projectiles he uses will probably be
nullified by yours. Use your bubbles continually. This isn't a tough battle as
long as you avoid his whirlpool and spinning shell attacks.
**
**
9. Lavicus: Dizziness Master
I suggest timer and no items.
Lavicus is probably the most difficult character to win with. Ironic, because
he is nearly the last boss KotM2: The Next Thing (the arcade game). He isn't as
strong as many monsters and doesn't have very many good moves. If you persist,
though, you'll eventually be able to win.
The best strategy is to stand above or below your opponent and wait for him to
come down towards you. Then flick (the punch button, kick is useless because it
does almost no damage) him and move away in the vertical direction. Wait 'till
the monster comes back and flick it again. Keep doing this until your opponent
falls down and then level with him and start shooting Dizzy Rays (down,
down/forward, forward, Punch.) If your opponent isn't faint it will do some
block damage. Keep shooting them and doing block damage until your opponent is
no longer in a strategic position. Then start flicking again.
If your opponent happens to be faint when he gets up, then he is set up
perfectly for the Dizzy Ray trick. The first dizzy ray should collide, doing a
good amount of damage. Adjust your position slightly so you are level with the
opponent and shoot another ray as the monster gets up. Keep adjusting your
position and shooting. Your opponent will be unable to block! For some reason,
being dizzy seems to make the computer stupid. It will mostly just try to walk
towards you, allowing you to shoot it. Sometimes the monster will shoot a
projectile at you. If this happens, the party is over. You'll have to start
back at the flicking part.
Get good at firing the projectiles with perfect timing so your opponent can't
get back up. You can finish an entire match by using this trick. Use it wisely.
Notable Battles: The above strategy should cover most of the monsters, although
you'll still have a tough time.
Lavicus- You can't fire Dizzy Rays at Lavicus. He just reflects them back.
Remember not to attack him with Dizzy Rays and he's a cinch. You can pretty
much just flick him to death. A few Body Smashes (d, u, d, u, P) are good too.

1. Super Geon
Grapple Moves:
*Rear Drop: down, up, Punch (Rear drop is probably the best grapple move
because it is faster to execute than the other one.)
*Brutal Bite: Repeatedly press Kick.
Special Moves:
*Geo Sword: Hold punch for a bit, then let go. Punch attacks with the horn,
kick throws it. (Not particularly useful, but fun.)
*Snake Fire: down,down/forward, forward, Kick (need 1 power, destroys other
projectiles without stopping)
*Earthquake: d, u, d, u, Jump (need 2 power, very cheap)
Secret Move: These need two power
*Ram & Slam: Forward, down, forward/down, punch (Super Geon grabs at the
opponent then slams him down. Secret Move.)
**
**
2. Atomic Guy:
Grapple Moves:
*Hyper Lightning Blitz: Repeatedly press kick.

cheap and does a ton of damage. You can perform it three times in a row.)
**
**
3. Cyber Woo
Grapple Moves:
*Body Lift: Down, up, Jump (I like this grapple better, I don't know why.)

Grapple Moves:
*Super Body Slam: Down, up, punch. (Not a very powerful move.)
Special Moves:
*Laser Breath: d, d/f, f, P

appear in front of your opponent, the other behind.)
*Laser Breath Split: d, d/f, f, P, P, P (need 2 power)
Secret Moves: These need two power
*Flying Flip Kick: f, d, d/f, P (dragon punch motion)
*Triple Super Body Slam: Just do a throw like normal, but press the combo (down
up punch) just as he lands and he will do a second slam. Do it one more time
and he will do a more powerful 3rd and final jump (Three Big Jumps in a row,
does a TON of damage. This move IS NOT in the instruction manual!!! Daneasaur
knew it. Does it work all right?)
**
**
5. Eifflelelyte

D. Ending Benefits
If you win on level 8, the music will be cooler, the ending will be better, and
the monsters will show different animations. You will also be very proud ^_^

E. Cool Colors
Each monster has seven colors.
Normal Colors (no power)
Normal Colors (1 power)
Normal Colors (2 power)
Alternate Colors (no power)
Alternate Colors (1 power)
Alternate Colors (2 power)
Last Boss Color
Normal Colors are always available. Alternate Colors can be made available by
having two players select the same monster. If you want to play 1 vs. Computer
with an alternate color scheme, start a game with one monster and challenge
yourself with the same monster. Then play through the game as the second
monster which will have the alternate color scheme. If you change monsters in
the middle of the game the new monster you select will also have alternate
colors. I always challenge myself in the beginning as a warm-up anyway, so if
you like one of the alternate color schemes try it.
The last boss color is the color scheme the last boss has. Some of them look
really cool, but you will never get to use them. Alas.

F. Review
Synopsis:"The Best Monster Fighting Game EVER!" - 10/10
I've heard some really bad things about this game (''looks like another Street
Fighter wannabe'') but I guess some people just don't get it. KotM2 is about
monster fighting. It's like the perfect Godzilla game. It has destroyable,
throwable buildings, power-ups, cool special moves, imaginative monster, and a
great instruction manual (if you can find one. If you do, please help me with
the moves list in my FAQ!) The game is very cheesy sometimes, but in a way that
makes you smile. It's just like an old monster movie.
Graphics: 10/10
There is no glitchiness or anything. The graphics perfectly portray the
monsters and atmosphere of the game. There are a lot of neat effects like
glowing red potholes where houses and buildings are missing, great explosions,
detailed and beautifully colored monsters, and great animation.
Sound: 10/10
The music perfectly fits the big-monsters-destroy-cities theme. You just have
to hear it to understand. It's great music.
The sound effects are flawless. The high-pitched Godzilla screams the monsters
emit will remind you of the movie.
Story: 10/10
100+ meter tall aliens come to take over the Earth. As one of the ''good''
monsters your job is to stop them and take over the Earth yourself! You can
also play as one of the alien monsters.
The good monsters include:
Cyber Woo: Basically a robot King Kong. Developed by Japan to combat the
aliens.
Atomic Guy: A Japenese scientist who imbibed a potion to make himself gigantic.
Super Geon: A Godzilla-type monster, also from Japan.
Anyone find it suspicious that all the good monsters come from Japan?!?
Gameplay: 10/10
The game's gameplay is great. The challenge of playing on difficulty level 8
makes you really think about your strategy and forces you to think.
Walking around, crushing houses, destroying bridges to get power-ups,
destroying other monsters... it just can't get any better.
The multiplayer is also well executed.
What can I say? The game is just a blast.
This game is a magnificent example of how an average arcade game can be ported
to a home system and end up worlds better than its arcade version. The home
version of the game does away with the incredible cheapness of the arcade
version, makes all the opponent monsters playable, adds special moves which are
easy to perform (a BIG advantage over most fighting games) and a superior
multiplayer mode. The beginning and ending sequences are fun to watch.
KotM2 is a great game for anybody who wants to play a fighting game that breaks
away from the mold. It's also a great game for monster lovers. I don't think
we'll ever see a game based on Godzilla that will top this classic.
Pick this up for a couple bucks at GameStop if you have a Genesis and are
looking for a fun new game.

G. Also Try
King of the Monsters #1 - Not as good, but still fun.
King of the Monster 2 (arcade) - EXTREMELY cheap, but try it. If you can beat
it, I salute you! (I can, but it takes about 5 quarters.) I'm sort of an expert
on this game, so ask me if you need help beating it. It's worth playing the
game just for the monster origins and cool graphics.
Any Rampage game - These are pretty fun arcade-type monster games. Sort of an
opposite of KotM games. This is to KotM2 as King Kong is to Godzilla. Great
game, but it gets old (unlike KotM2!)
Someday I may expand my website to feature these games. We shall see...

Konami, SNK, Takara - For making the best monster game EVER! This rendition of
King of the Monsters is probably the best monster fighting game ever. Better
even than the arcade or SNES version. Great job, guys!
Aster Azul - I never gave up and got this to 100%! But I couldn't have done it
without the following enthusiasts.
Silver88 of the GameFAQs message boards - Actually HELPED me get a partial
moves list for this game! What a first! Thanks, man!
Laladien of the GameFAQs message boards - Really REALLY helped me by getting a
complete KotM2 instruction manual for me! What a guy! Now you can read the
manual after downloading it on the web at:
www.geocities.com/asterazul/King_of_the_Monsters_2.html
Daneasaur of the GameFAQs message boards - Another KotM2 expert. You may see
him on Godzilla game message boards. He was able to remember a few of those
super secret moves! Cool! Most notably, he knew about Huge Frogger's Triple
Super Body Slam which ISN'T in the instruction manual! WOWSERS!
LTZ - A Malaysian student who told me how to do Eifflelyte's secret move.
Thanks, LTZ!
Go beat those evil invading monsters! Go! Beat them!
If anyone can beat this game on level 8 with every monster, email me so I can
congratulate you!
